CS5 Bridge freezes Windows 7 - help?

Have been using CS5 and Bridge for quite a while. Yesterday it's decided not to work. Anytime I click on the start-up icon, the system stops responding and has to be reset to get it going again. InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop seem fine. Have uninstalled CS5 and reinstalled plus updates. Still kills system. Have CS5 running on Windows 8 laptop and Bridge works there. Am really confused and at a loss on how to get it going on desktop (Windows 7, Intel i5 IvyBridge, 16GB).

After several days of uninstalling, reinstalling, trying this and that, and repeatedly trying to open bridge, which, of course, then required resetting system, etc., I received a message, from of all things, Bridge! It said "Loading startup scripts took over 10 seconds (wow! is that an understatement, they must be using the same clock the support chat line uses to let you know when an agent will be available). You can disable scripts in preferences > startup scripts." The Bridge open screen then appeared (after clicking "OK") but any attempt to access anything was blocked. The last opened folder at the bottom of the screen showed a couple of images, but the rest were without image.
The next time I tried to open Bridge, it came up with another warning screen. This one said "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation." Hark! I've heard cache mentioned before. Aha. Mylenium said to flush out the Bridge cache (in the "without fancies" section.  I can't recall how I got there but I did get to preferences and discovered that Adobe put the cache on my SSD, not my data drives.
I turned off startup scripts for everything (disable all) and moved the cache to my hard disk. Eureka! Bridge is working like it used to!!!
Did the amount of available room on my SSD get reduced to the point that there simply wasn't enough to open a folder?? Why didn't Adobe give me the option during installation to tell it where to put the cache?? Where did the message "Preparing Security Options" come from (see my previous reply). Was that caused by my changing junk email options? And did that trigger the loss of SSD capacity?? I'll probably never know but some interesting results . . . .

  • Need a plug-in for CS5 Bridge (on Windows 7)

Hi. I have just replaced a dead hard drive and reinstalled CS5 from discs which went well until I tried to find the Bridge plug-in which reads camera/lens data and allows distortion corrections. Where can I find the right plug-in and how do I go about downloading and installing it? I shoot with a Canon 5D Mk II. Thank you.

You probably are referring to the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plug in. This should be automatically installed with your Photoshop CS5 version, it also works via bridge but still s a PS plug in. Be sure to have the latest updates for your PS version. You can open a Raw file in Bridge with the open command and this should open it in the ACR window using PS or use The Open in Camera Raw command to open in ACR hosted by Bridge.
On other files (jpeg and Tiff also can be opened in ACR) just open in PS and use the Filter Lens Correction.
Otherwise provide more details about versions and system.

I have Photoshop CS5, and use windows XP. I cannot open bridge from photoshop, which I have done for years.  When I am in Photoshop, when it opens, I always click on the bridge icon at the bottom of the screen and it puts me into bridge. This is not happening, the small wheel at the bottom of the screen just keeps spinning. Its like its stuck or caught in a loop. I can't get into bridge. I tried shutting down and starting up again but  the problem remains. Looking for help.  Dan

Thanks for your response, I was able to open bridge from File-Browse in Bridge.  This worked, but was not able to go back to the way I always opened Bridge.  At least I could get to Bridge and go into Camera Raw. I never tried to open Bridge from the Start menu.  The odd thing about this is, it has happened before, and to get it "unstuck" and working again, I would shut down and restart again in a few minutes, and things would go back to normal.  This time it did not go back to normal after several attempts.  I shut down for about 3-4 hours, restarted, and it seems to be back to normal again. I am not sure if it's a problem that is getting worse each time it happens.       And yes I am using Mini Bridge in photoshop CS5.  Thank you for your help.  Dan

  • Incomplete Photoshop window and Bridge freeze-up

I have just purchased a new imac: 2.66 i5, 4gb memory, ati radeon 4850 card, running the latest Leopard. (the base model 27``)  Just installed CS4 and have not had any success using it. Bridge freezes up immediately when opened and I have to force quit. Photoshop opens and I can work on images, however the only thing that seems to open are the tool bars. I have yet to see if I can save an image or do any serious work on it.  The central window where image view is retains whatever is on the screen from previous viewing with the working image overlayed, or just the desktop if no programs are running. I have done both the standard full install and a custom install, and I encounter the same issues. I have tried the script cleanup some have suggested, run every update I can find and nothing works.
I do keep all my images on a maxtor external hardrive I used w/ my PC. I thought there was a hardware conflict so I pulled some images to a folder on the mac, but still bridge freezes before I can open a single image.
My computer is only 2 weeks old and I have installed no other programs and this is my first mac.

  • It asks me to close CS5 Bridge. It is NOT open. Help.

I am installing PS CS6 from the CD I purchased. I am told to close CS5 Bridge. It is not OPEN. Help.

My apology. I thought it was a live “chat”, and I was also very frustrated.
Yes, I am familiar with the working of Task Master, and I used it. It revealed that PS CS5 Bridge was NOT running. Can you tell me how to “get around” this problem?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Why doesn't CS5 Bridge see my RAW photos from my Canon 7D?

I just got a new Canon 7D. I can't open Raw files in CS5 Bridge...it only sees jpgs.  Is there a setting I need to change?  I have updated CS5 to latest updates.

7D support was introduced with ACR 5.6, which was an update for CS4.
Have you tried opening a 7D raw with Photoshop directly (File > Open ...)?
Are you using a non-standard raw format (I dunno, I don't shoot Canon, but I believe there are alternative raw types)?
Can you confirm that ACR is correctly installed? Photoshop > Help > About Plugin... - there should be one copy of Camera Raw, currently version 6.4.
It should be physically located at:
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats and/or C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats
    Mac:  /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS5/File Formats
    and nowhere else!

  • Raw images in cs5 bridge

I have an old Canon G5 that I recently used to shoot raw images. When I try to pull up raw images using bridge in CS5 I get a message saying that a file is missing; libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll however I can pull individual raw files up using CS5 "open" and they appear in raw as a normal raw file. I read various internet posts that indicate various ways to replace above missing file however not sure those fixes are applicable to CS5 bridge. Your thoughts would  be welcome. Thank you.

If you had given us sensible information, I could look it up for you if your efforts fail.
Right now, I don't even know if you are on a Mac or on a Windows box.

  • CS6 Bridge freeze using Homegroup network

I installed CS6 Photoshop two days ago and am having problems with Bridge.
I have a network using a Windows Homegroup between my desktop PC (ROB_PC), and a laptop (JUDE_PC) in another room, linked by my broadband router. When both machines are on I can use Bridge to access (read/copy/delete) files on the laptop by clicking on the folder in Bridge - see screen shot below (it's the folder called RAW). I can also, of course, access the laptop files in Windows. If the laptop is shut down and I try to use Bridge, I get a system freeze on Bridge and have to cancel Bridge and restart the laptop to get Bridge going again. It seems to want access to the laptop, even though I'm not looking at any folders on the laptop with Bridge, and the laptop is not switched on.
This morning I can't even load Bridge. Both computers were switched off overnight, but when I switched my PC on and left the laptop off Bridge will not load at all. This happens even when the last used folder in Bridge is NOT the remote laptop, so I can't understand why bridge is still looking for it when it starts. Does it need access to ALL folders on a normal network, even if I haven't requested to look at those folders? That doesn't seem right to me.
Do I need to disconnect from the network?

    Thanks for the reply, Curt.
I have made some progress, but still don't know what's going wrong.
    1. I can load CS5 Bridge OK and it works fine, even with the other PC (laptop) switched off. As soon as I try CS6 Bridge it freezes.
    2. I just unistalled all of CS5 (Photoshop and Bridge). So now I just have CS6. That made no difference - still freezing on Bridge when laptop swithed off. When laptop is on, Bridge works fine. I loaded Bridge with the laptop on then switched off the laptop while Bridge still loaded. As soon as the laptop went off, Bridge stopped. When I switched laptop back on Bridge resumed working - without me touching bridge (I just watched the PC screen). Bridge is definitely trying to look at the whole of my network, and if it finds the laptop off it freezes.
    3. Getting desperate... I went to my Broadband router (BT) and did a router restart with the switch on the side. That fixes it! Bridge runs OK with the laptop off. One might assume it's a router problem - but why was it working OK on CS5?
I suppose doing a router restart is an easy work-around, but it shouldn't happen. Anyone else have a problem in this area?

  • CS5 bridge Crashes Consistently

After the latest update to Windows XP Bridge in CS5 crashes consistently each and every time I move a number of files from one folder to the next.
The files get moved all right, but then Bridge vanishes.
The behavior is the same when I drag files and when I use Edit Cut - Paste.
I cleared the preview/thumbnail cache for all images in the hope that it was a caching issue but that made no difference.
Until this recent update Bridge was very reliable and never crashed.
I thought I could file a problem report with Adobe but there is no option for that. I hope someone here can help.
