Cs5 brushes

I am trying to use a splatter effect brush and when I click on the area with my splatter shape - it reveals the background insted of the selected colour
so the brush is acting as an eraser???
I have tried selecting different layers including the new one I am using but nothing?
Can anybody help me before I loose all my hair?!

Check in the tool options bar for the mode, clear makes the brush act like an eraser.
Try setting the mode to normal.
Are you using the paint brush tool or the mixer brush?

In photoshop CS5, Brush tool doesn't work on an adjustment layer

I Created an adjustment (Curves) layer and did the curves adjustment.  Then I did an Edit Fill (Normal Mode, 100% Opacity and Use: Black).
I then try to use the brush tool, but it doesn't work.  I've done this hundreds of times before and suddenly it's not working.  Rebooted the system, but that didn't help.
I know how to do a screen shot, but it doesn't paste onto this screen.  How do I get that to you?
    thanks for your help

Cs5 Brush cursor problem, on MacBook pro, tried the latest update, and the genious dude had no idea of what to do! Apple any fix?

Additional Info - after working on this problem for 4 hours, I shut my laptop in frustration and took a break.  1 hour later I opened my mac and the cursor had magically returned.  No restart, no power on/off - nothing.  Frustration.  If anyone else has had this happen and has actually fixed the problem let me know. I'm sure it will reoccur.

  • CS5 brush cursor tip problem

I have read previous posts on this problem but have a somewhat different question. The CS5 brush tip cursor is breaking up and partially disappearing over 50 pixels in size.
I am running XP Home SP3 on an HP 17" dv8000 laptop, Intel T2500 chip 2.0 GhHz, 2GB RAM, Navidia GeoForce GO 7600 with the latest driver installed.
Adobe's help files all mention updating Navidia drivers for this problem with CS4.
My question is: Since I have an "older" GPU and the latest driver, does this mean that my cursor problem can never be fixed and I need a newer GPU to handle CS5's new graphic needs for its cursors? Since laptop GPU cannot usually be updated, does this mean I need a new laptop to run CS5 and have the cursors behave correctly? The laptop works perfectly otherwise.
    Thanks for any help.

Went to the Navidia website tonight and had the site auto-analyze my machine and install the latest for my card which has the date of 2/11/2009 which is noted to be the latest. I also checked this manually and got the same match and date. I have not contacted the company. So I am definitely up to date as far as that GPU goes.
Ouch.  That places you kind of into the category of "computer is too old to run the things you want to run".
This particular issue,  with nVidia, is one that frustrated me a while back, and because it cost me money I recount the story.  NVidia WILL pay for their lack of support...  I had a $1,000+ workstation video card (a Quadro FX 3400) that was 1.5 years old when I first went to upgrade to Vista x64 from XP x64, back some years ago.  Vista came with drivers that "sort of" worked, but never properly.  Updating to their latest drivers (and every version in between) did NOT help.  It became painfully clear that nVidia was not putting any serious effort into supporting "older" video cards, however expensive they might have been.  I fought with the constant problems for months, then gave up in desperation and bought an ATI card that was 1/8 the cost and worked PERFECTLY out of the box, stabilizing Vista and turning my compute experience from nightmarish to wonderful.
I've never bought another nVidia product.
On the one hand you might say that a hardware company makes little money by updating their driver software for hardware that's already been sold.  On the other hand, I say that such a decision, leaving current customers out in the cold, DEFINITELY is stupid from a less tangible perspective.  I've been avoiding nVidia for years, and I've been advising other people to do so as well.
Did nVidia save money by not funding the development of driver software for an older video card?  Maybe, if it was just me who got left in the dust.  However, given the nature of this thread, it's clear I'm not alone.
I'm guessing your next laptop will have an ATI video interface in it.
    Best of luck to you.

  • Photoshop CS5 Brushes etc Questions !

Is there a way to change angle or rotation of the new Photoshop CS5 Brushes ? I've read that you can simulate a canvas texture in CS5, how is this done ?

Did you try modifying the Angle value from the Brush Tip Shape section? Also, the bristle brushes were made for tablets so don't expect to be able to replicate everything when using just a mouse. As for the texture, that's just a function of the Texture section of the Brushes panel

Same thing at my office with a 3 Monitor Setup! Brush Preset pops aup always on Display 1.
Any help? Is it a bug or is there a setting i do not know?

Help would be nice cause my 2nd display is a tablet display for drawing and I would like to use the brush preset right next to the cursor!

  • CS4 + CS5 Brush CURSOR outline disappear when increase the brush size

    Hi
In Photoshop CS4 and CS5, the outline of the brush cursor starts to disappear when you increase the brush size.
It's OK under 65px in diameter and it's start to disappear over 66px. In 438px the outline is a single dot and over 439px the cursor outline is completely gone!
I read that it's caused by the old drivers for the video card. I'm using GeForce 8800GT and I updated the driver with the latest version form the nVidia web site. The problem is still here!
    HELP?

I'm seeing a bit of a pattern of multiple people reporting problems with nVidia 8800 cards.  I'm thinking nVidia isn't testing new drivers against this particular model very intensively.  See my comments on video cards and drivers in this thread:

  • [CS5] Brush strokes not displaying

    Hi everyone,
It's my first post on these forums and it's about a problem already, my apologies for that!
When using any tool that behaves like a brush (brush tool included, of course), the results are not displayed until I do something in the UI (like, switching channels for example). I've discovered that turning off OpenGL acceleration solves this problem. But as OpenGL worked fine in Photoshop CS4, I'm wondering why it suddenly fails in CS5. I'm working on a Quad-core Mac Pro (2x2,66 Ghz) with an ATI X1900XT GPU, with Mac OS X 10.6.3 running. Does Apple need to update the driver for this GPU? Or is there something I need to do in particular? According to the knowledge base (if I'm not wrong), there's nothing to do but shut OpenGL down… Any ideas?
    Thanks for your input!
    Regards,
    Damien
P.S. : I don't natively speak English, so I hope my language is appropriate.

Yes, it sounds like something is wrong with your video card driver.
Until Apple releases a fix, you can keep OpenGL drawing disabled.

  • Cs5 brush cursor

when using the brush tool in cs5 the cursor is visible in the shadow and highlight areas but as soon as you move to a mid tone
it blends into the background. If i drag the cursor from a shadow region it remains visable in the mid tones but as soon a i lift the pen of the tablet it merges with the bg again
can anyone help with a fix
    system spec is
       MacPro4,1
        Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:    2.26 GHz
      Memory:    12 GB
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

As far as I know there is no direct fix. Adobe has agreed that the implementation is far from perfect.
It is also a problem drawing paths with the pen under some circumstances.
I briefly press the spacebar to get the hand if the cursor is totally lost, and otherwise temporarily add an adjustment layer to darken or lighten the image as required.

  • CS5 brushes not loading on Mac

I have the latest OS system for Mac 10.9.4.  It used to be that when I downloaded a brush for CS5 (yes it is a legal copy) that it would automatically launch install when you clicked on it. Now there is nothing. No error. No response. CS5 opens but that is all. The new brushes do not show up in the menu in CS5. However all existing brushes in CS5 work fine.  I cannot figure out what is wrong. Can someone please help me.
    Thank you

  • Photoshop CS5 brush randomly becomes straight lines

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem with my student edition version of photoshop CS5. For some unknown reason the brush tool randomly stops drawing lines that I command it to do (using my tablet pen) and will correct itself when I open another program (any program). Instead of drawing a curve, it will just draw a straight line and half the time not even for very far. I cant figure out for the life of me what is causing this problem. My laptop isnt on stickykeys or anything like that and I am running windows 7 64 bit with 8 gig of ram..
THANKYOU SO MUCH in advance if you can help a student in need of doing her homework!
    Kerryanne

Allso have this from time to time.
The brush loses response and does little short straight lines here and there, it's a software glitch. I usually save my document when that happens, this usually snaps it out of it but a few times I had to wait then save again. I used to be able to just swap apps or click on layers or something but that doesn't work anymore.
    XP 32bit
    CS5 32bit
I had the same promlem with CS4 trial, with my old Manhattan tablet and with my new Intuo's. I think it's a bug that comes in from time to time with panel, window focus changes. Or Id get up to fetch a cup of coffee and when I come back it's like that.

  • CS5 Brushes Palette doesn't save brush settings when browsing

Okay, this is a weird one.
When I open the Brush Palette (F5), it shows me the settigns for the current brush (nothing new here) but when I choose another brush (from the Brush Palette NOT from the menu at the top of the screen), it has the same settings and the same checkboxes (Textures, Dual Brush etc.) enabled as the previous one. Even if the second brush is not supposed to have them enabled. What is causing this? Please help.
I have the latest updates and the lates Wacom drivers installed.

Yeah, that was the problem. I didn't notice that I'm changing the tip. How silly of me.
    Thank you very much!
    One more little question.
When I click with the mouse to change the brush from the arrow at the top of the screen it isn't showing the pressure sensitivity on the stroke thumnails of the brushes for the whole session. However, when I click with the tablet it's showing them (again, for the whole session).
Is it how Photoshop works or is it some issue with the Wacom drivers? The versions before CS4 doesn't have this "issue".

  • Photoshop CS5 - brushes, blur slow in higher resolution

    Hi,
My Dad recently upgraded his monitor from an old CRT on 1024x768 resolution to a new LCD with 1920x1080 resolution, and he's found that tools that require the use of the mouse are running particularly slowly now. He's using Photoshop on a Windows Vista 64-bit machine with 4GB RAM and around 3.5TB of storage space. Do you know why the sluggishness might be occurring?
    Thanks!

Maybe he's using brushes which are twice as large as before because he has about twice as many pixels across the screen now. A round brush will fill four times as many pixels with each doubling of its size, therefore the computer will appear to be four times slower. I better say that's a crude approximation before somebody jumps on my case with a computer science lecture.

  • CS5 brush tool problem

For some reason, the brush tool refuses to work properly for me anymore in photoshop. It will now only draw vertical or horizontal lines. This is very frustrating cause it was working fine when I first installed it. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the program, deleted the presets, and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on here?

Well, apparently this is a problem that has been occuring after updating to 10.6.5. Logging off or restarting the system seems to solve the problem for the time being. But I never had these kind of problems with CS4.

  • CS5 Brushes acting strange? (pics)

I recently got Photoshop and I'm still trying to get used to it, and upon opening it today I found that all of my brushes had this weird choppy overlap in opacity that I couldn't fix:
I have no clue what happened, but I can't get them to be consistent at all. Both the opacity and flow are set to 100%. I'm new to this, guys, so I have no idea if this is common or what.

If you're referring to this, the dual brush setting has been off the entire time.
