CS5, checked "save file extensions as small case letters" but still capital, why?

hi,
i installed CS5 4 weeks ago, since this time, i never got a file extension in small case letters, only capital letters ( xxx.TIF ). why?
i checked it in preferences, see enclosed screenshot... i never had this problem in CS4.
it would be important for myself, when saving files, that alle extensions are small case letters, like xxx.psd or xxx.eps
usually i rename these extensions manually, cause i am uploading final images to PC servers, which
cant recognize capital letters, i presume....

no, i am still dealing with this problem on both macs,
mac pro mid 2010 2,8 quad (24GB RAM) and my mbp 15" i7 (4GB RAM)
where i installed Photoshop CS5.
on both macs, photoshop always saves files with capital letter file extensions (xxx.TIF or xxx.PSD)
thats very annoying, as i have to manually rename the file in the finder later.
and thats for all files i create.
i really wonder, could anyone from the adobe staff please comment if it is a bug
or anything else?
thanks!

  • Photoshop doesn't save file extension

    I'm using PS cs5.1 64 bit and Bridge cs5 in Win7 Pro 64 bit.
    When I "Save As", photoshop won't write the file extension unless I explicitly type it (i.e. i have to type "filename.psd" as opposed to just "filename") in the file name text box.
    If I Save As the file without specifying the extension, bridge simply displays a blank page icon for the file, and if I double click it, I get the "don't know what application to use" dialog. If I select photoshop as the program to use, ps will open the file correctly.
    However, even after I change the filename in bridge by adding the extension, bridge displays the PS icon, but won't preview the file (doesn't show a thumbnail).
    If I want bridge to show a thumbnail, I have to re-open the file in PS, then Save As, remembering to explicitly specify the extension. THEN, Bridge will show a thumbnail.
    How can I correct this? I've gone through the preferences dialog and have "save lowercase extension" checked, but this appears to be a preference for case of saved extension, not a specification that an extension should always be saved.
    btw: I tried the regedit fix specified on other help forums, but this didn't help.
    Thanks.

    I think I figured it out.
    I was saving filenames which contain "." in the name (e.g. "BO.HG.M.psd").
    When I saved the file with the name "BO_HG_M", photoshop appended the .psd extension for me, and bridge is happy.
    Because of the application of the images, it's important that we use the "." format for the names, so I'll just live with it and try to remember to type the ".psd" on the end.

  • Can Firefox CS5 recognize custom file extensions as PNGs?

    WHen you work with game skins you will have custom file extensions such as .scworld and .scskin that are really PNG files renamed. Does anyone know how to add these as recognizeable extensions in Firefox?

  • CS5 chooses wrong file extension

    I edit a photo, choose "Save As", change the name a little, and choose JPEG as the type of file. CS5 then incorrectly saves the edited photo as "file".  This "file" is completely worthless as CS5 cannot reopen it.  And, yes, the file extension says it will be saved as a JPEG and, lo and behold, it is saved as a "file".  This is a new problem these past two days.  I have been saving vacation photos for six weeks and they all were saved successfully as JPEGs until 2 days ago.  I really hope somebody can help me.  (Oh, I did reboot, of course...no difference.)  Sherry

    Welcome to the forum.
    I have never seen PS NOT attach an extension (the one chosen) to a file with Save/Save_As/Save_As_a_Copy.
    I think that Noel might be onto something, with the display of file extensions - by default, Windows does NOT show file extensions for "known formats." This can be changed, and I feel it should be, in Windows' Control Panel>Folder Options.
    When doing the Save functions (all three), PS will suggest a file name, based on the name of the Image. Even if you delete that completely, including the file's extension, PS will (or should), still attach the file extension, chosen with the file type in the Save dialog box.
    With File Extensions showing, what are the extensions of those files? If they are not showing a program's icon, say PS's, then that can be addressed with the File Types, and the associated program for that type. Again, that is in Control Panel>File Types.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Checking for file extensions

    I have a form that I want to submit a csv file to, however I would like to check the file to make sure that it is indeed .csv before I perform the task that I need to do
    *****************Example***********************
    form.html
    <form name=vo_verify action=verify.jsp method=post>
    <input type=file>
    <input type=submit>
    </form>
    verify.jsp
    return true == .csv
    return false != .csv

    Could you do a check for the substring within the filename?
    Like,
    String filename = (String)request.getParameter("file");
    int index = filename.indexOf(".csv");
    if (index == -1) do something; //extension .csv not found
    else do something else;
    There might be a better way to do this, but this should work I think.
    Also, bdtjdc was just trying to help, which is what this forum is for. :)

  • I have installed latest update and checked all preferences are correct in my MAC but still cannot download PDFs from some websites

    When I am on a website and need to download a PDF it tells me I need to get latest update of Adobe Reader. So I get latest update (God knows how many times now) but still cannot open the PDFs - any suggestions?

    This is probably because the websites you are visiting have bad Javascripts to check the version of Acrobat but can you screenshot the error that you receive and the post it?

  • Photoshop will not save file extension, how do I fix?

    When saving any file, Photoshop saves only the filename without the extension- i must manually add the extension in finder- nightmare! Help Chat sucks so here I am. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but it still doesn't work- any ideas??

    First, make sure you have extensions visible in the OS.
    Then check Photoshop's preferences and change it back to always saving extensions.

  • Check the file extension in the selection screen

    hi,
    in the selection screen i am giving a file path. the file should be of type PDF only.
    how to validate it ?
    i am splitting the file path at "." and checking for the last three letters , if it pdf or not.
    but it is throwing error for pdf format also.

    hi,
    You need to pass only COMPLETE_FILENAME
    say C:\ABC\A\ABC.TXT
    data  : v_filename type PCFILE-PATH.
    v_filename = "C:\ABC\A\ABC.TXT".
      CALL FUNCTION 'PC_SPLIT_COMPLETE_FILENAME'
           EXPORTING
                COMPLETE_FILENAME = v_FILENAME
           IMPORTING
                DRIVE             = v_DRIVE
                EXTENSION         = v_EXTENSION
                 NAME              = v_name
                 NAME_WITH_EXT     = v_namewithtxt
                PATH              = PATH_VALUE
            EXCEPTIONS
                 INVALID_DRIVE     = 1
                 INVALID_EXTENSION = 2
                 INVALID_NAME      = 3
                 INVALID_PATH      = 4
                 OTHERS            = 5.
    you will get the output as
    DRIVE                           C
    EXTENSION                   TXT
    NAME                            ABC
    NAME_WITH_EXT          ABC.TXT
    PATH                            \ABC\A\
    Hope this helps.

  • IE saves file in different name(ex. some[1].somthing.txt ) why adds [1]?

    I am streaming the file content from servlet. My header & content type setting looks as follows.
    String downloadType = "application/octet-stream";
    res.setContentType(downloadType + "; name=\"" + fileName + "\"");
    res.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + fileName + "\";");
    When I click the link on the HTML page or if I right click and 'Save Target As' the file.
    Actual file name = some.somthing.txt
    but it saves As = some[1].somthing.txt
    If the file name contains only one '.' then it saves as same name, the problem arises only if the file name has more than one 'dot'.
    If any body has any idea please help me out..
    Note: The directory I chose to download doesn't have any files by name
    "some.somthing.txt" so it wasn't due to cache.

    If the file name contains only one '.' then it saves
    as same name, the problem arises only if the file name
    has more than one 'dot'.I encourage you to read RFC1806 and its successors. Start
    with RFC1806, '2.3 The Filename Parameter'. You should stick
    with 8.3 filenames.

  • .osx file extension works on MacBook Pro but not Mac Pro

    So I have a file that was created, I believe in Macromedia Flash (not certain) but it has a .osx extension on it. It works just fine on my MacBook Pro, but won't work on a Mac Pro. Both have Leopard, both have most of the same software on them... Can anybody offer any help?

    jaypie77,
    First, you must identify the application that created the file. If it truly was Macromedia Flash, fine. Once you know which app created the file, make certain that the same application exists on the Mac Pro. If it does, set the file to open in that application: Open a Getinfo window for the file, then use the "Open With..." dialogue to choose Macromedia Flash (or the correct application) to open the file.

  • Trying to open a saved down idml file in CS4. Updated CS4 but still missing plugins?

    I'm trying to open both an inx file as well as an idml file exported from CS5. I have CS4 and it is updated as far as it will go, but it still says I'm missing plugins. And a lot too... 19 of them! Does anyone know how I can get these plugins? It's requesting them for both the inx file and the idml file.

    That is indicative of someone simply renaming an INDD file to IDML. In other words, that file wasn’t EXPORTED from anything. It was saved with a different extension or renamed after saving.

  • Files open as empty in Dreamweaver, but still normal on site

    I connected to my website and attempted to work on a file on my remote server (the actual site server) and when I opened it there was NO CODE AT ALL. When I logged into the actual site, the file functioned normally and when I went to the file manager on the actual site, the file was perfectly fine.  Please help!
    Hank

    Hi Hank -
    I didn't realize you could edit a file ON THE SERVER without a CMS of some sort.
    Could you post a link to your site so someone with CS6 could check it out for you.
