CS5 Clone stamp is translucent??

I'm a bit baffled by the behavior of the clone stamp tool (v12.0.4 x64).
I've been using Photoshop Mac for a very long time, and have always gotten a 100% opaque result from the clone tool. Now when I try to clone from one area to another, the clone stamp tool lays down the source correctly, but it's not opaque. Instead, it lays down at about 33% opacity, causing me to have to go over the area several times to complete the clone.
I can see how this might be useful under some circumstances, but is there a way to make it behave as it did before - 100% with one pass?

Found it.
Wet Edges was checked in the brush palette.
Thanks everyone!

  • Photoshop CS5 Clone Stamp Tool option-click just stopped working, why?

I've been using clone stamp tool option-click (healing brush  option-click also) on Photoshop CS5 on my Mac 10.6.5 and it stopped  working suddenly on Monday.  Had just used it on Sunday.  So, I've tried  to isolate the problem.
    1. Went to Apple store and my keyboard and  mouse work fine on their inhouse systems running Photosochop CS5.   Problem still exists on home system.
    2. Adobe photoshop suggested I go back to Mac 10.6.3.  I did and problem still exits.
    3. Reset all presets in CS5.  Problem still exists.
    4.  Spent several hours with Adobe Photoshop tech on phone -- he couldn't  make it work remotely either using his keyboard.  Reloaded Photoshop  from scratch.  Problem still exists.
    Question:
Could this be a hardware problem?  Graphic board problem?
Or is this a software problem aside from Mac OS and CS5?

    Hi Joan
It sounds like you are not having fun at all : )
    >I talked with a for fee Mac guru today who says I need to wipe slate clean and install operating system from scratch since I did not use time machine.
.....you ever notice how easy it is for a consultant to tell you what to do when they don't have to do it?
..... I wonder why the guru thought your system was gone if your new user account was working?
If your new user account is working.... why not use it?  The system seems fine but something went screwy with the settings in your original account.
hopefully someone else will chime in here with more insight before you start from scratch.

  • CS5 clone stamp

Suddenly now, when I use the clone stamp in CS5, as I click the option key, the whole image moves around and there is a whole duplicate image as well.  How do I rectify this?  I am not new to Photoshop, but I have never encountered this and cannot find a solution.

You might want to read up on the clone source palette
Aren’t we supposed to call them Panels now?
Edit: Abodeely, you may want to look for »Clipped«.

  • CS5 Clone Stamp Is Cloning Black Dots???

My cloning stamp was working just fine, I edited a photo with it, saved that photo, then opened the next photo and tried to use the clone stamp on it and now all my clone stamp is doing is cloning black dots. It "grabs" the skin color I need, but when I go to "paste", it pastes only a black dot. Help??? I have CS5! There are NO other layers open, and I have tried to restart the program and even went as far as doing a system restore on my laptop to before this happened and nothing worked!

There are a lot of options you could check, but sometimes the easiest way to make sure there are no esoteric combinations of options, modes, etc. active is to just reset the tool...
Right-click on the little Clone Stamp icon up in the options area and choose Reset Tool...
Edit:  Curt beat me to it.

  • CS5 clone stamp overlay disappeared! I want it back!

The clone stamp overlay (preview feature) disappeared yesterday and I want to get it back.  In the "Clone Source" tab, "Show Overlay" is checked.  "Clipped" is checked.  Opacity is 100%.  Anbody know what else could be causing this or what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks!

I am having a hard time imagining how the Aligned checkbox could cause the overlay to disappear.  I get a proper overlay with that setting in either state.
Did you close and reopen Photoshop between the time it didn't and did work?

  • CS5: Clone stamp source movement not available?

In CS4, using the clone tool, I could hold option and move around until I found exactly where I wanted to clone from.
In CS5, when I hold option and try to move around with the pen on the tablet, it becomes a cursor icon.  Is there a way around this?  Seems like a step backwards to me?
    Thanks in advance.

Your description of your problem doesn't make any sense unfortunately
There have been no changes to the Clone features in CS5 as far as I'm aware, so things should be behaving exactly the same. Check that …
    • Your preferences > cursors in CS4 and 5 have the same settings
    • In your Clone Source panel you have the  same items under "Show Overlay" and "clipped" checked.

  • Clone stamp acting different?

I am just noticing my CS5 clone stamp seems to hold the area i sourced from as i move the brush around. Is this some new behavior or can i disable it? it is very annoying to see more than just my circular brush shape.

I guess i can give it another chance.my first impression was less than excited, and a little disconcerting as it held onto the selecting as i moved about. I am sure their is some logical reason for the design change.I always just lined the crosshair up when i needed precision.

When trying to use the clone stamp and/or healing brush as soon as I move the cursor from the toolbar over to the image I get an exact copy of the existing layer that moves around the window with the movement of the clone stamp/healing brush.  This just started tonight.  What's causing this weird behaviour?

  • Problem Defining Source in CS5 for Clone Stamp and Healing Brush

I am struggling to define the source point for clone stamp or healing brush in Photoshop CS5. When I first installed the program it was working just as the instructions were set out in the help menu (e.g. alt click to define the source and then move the cursor to find the area to fix). I don't know what has happened, or if I've accidentally re-set something, but now when I 'alt-click' the entire photo is selected, and even when I let go, there is a layer consisting of the entire photo (not just one point) that moves over an exact copy of the same photo underneath. This happens regardless of whether I've created an extra adjustment layer. Help! (it used to work just fine. I don't know what I've done to change it)

Ok I am not sure what you are trying to do, but I believe it is to repair or correct some anomoly on an image you are working on.
With CS5 there is the patch tool the healing brush tool and the new spot healing tool (very cool of you have not played with it yet.)
I think what you are looking at, The "Clone Stamp" is not the tool you are looking for. the clone stamp esentually does exactly what you are talking about. It clones the layer you have highlighted so when you run your brush it paints that image.
The healing and redeye removal tools are all one grouping right click on the brush to make your choice.
    I hope this helps.

  • CS5 64-bit Content Aware Fill kills Healing brush, clone stamp

    Here's the deal:
    1)  Open image for retouching-background layer only
    2)  Make copy of background layer 'cause I never retouch there and CAF won't work on the blank layer I use for all other retouching
    3)  Add blank layer above the previous two layers for clone stamp/healing work--can't use it for content-aware fill
    4)  Find something that will retouch better with CAF than cloning or healing and fix it with CAF on layer 2
    5)  The healing brush and clone stamp now do not work.  I can see them, and the clone stamp continues to preview in the brush correctly, but when clicked nothing happens.
The only solution I've found is to save the image and restart CS5.

    Steve

Okay, I duplicated your setup exactly with CS5 64 bit on Win 7 x64.  Background layer, copy of background layer, and transparent touch-up layer.
You are unclear about exactly how you're invoking the Content Aware Fill.
I went through exactly the steps you suggested, as evidenced by the following Photoshop Edit log excerpt.  I saw NO difficulties using the Clone tool in the last step.
Are you aware you can use the SPOT Healing Brush, in Content Aware mode, to do what you're doing on the transparent top layer (thereby avoiding the need to work on the background copy layer)?  It is able to deal with the image being on the lower layers.

  • Clone stamp tool on a 3D object (CS5)

I'm getting very odd color corruption, using the clone stamp tool on a 3D object. I'm using it for one of the main aspects of PS 3D, painting out UV seams on an object. And I'm getting a very odd artifact: an entirely brown texture is, when sampled with the stamp tool, producing bright cyan and purple pixels on the outside of my feathered stamp brush. I never saw this before, but then I didn't end up using 3D painting in CS4 as much as I ordinarily would have, as my workload changed a lot.
But I'm using it now, and am seeing this annoying artifact. Does anyone else see this? Any known workarounds?

I also suddenly have this problem. I am using an ATI Firepro V5800, and have had no problems with any of the painting tools when using 3D in photoshop. Now it is a real problem! For now the projection onto a new layer and merging down is helping a bit, but when i merge down the edges between the original and merged layer change...you can see a clear shift in the colour between the two.
Very annoying! Perhaps a bug that's come with a new update? My graphics card drivers are up to date, the same driver that i was using when clone stamp used to work!

  • How to fix clone stamp issue?

    MAC OS / Photoshop CS5
As you can see in the attached image, my clone stamp selection doesn't extend out to the edges of the outline, which makes using it very clumsy to use. My PS installation at home and all the installations at this business don't do this.
I've tried messing with all the clone stamp settings, resetting the clone stamp presets, and resetting the general Photoshop preferences at startup. However, nothing I've tried has had any affect.
So how can I get this adjusted so that the clone stamp selected area extends out to the edges of the grey outline?

What version of mac os x are you using?
If what JJMack suggested above doesn't make a difference, then in general the brush
size cursor in photoshop on mac os x can be affected by the setting of the cursor size
set in Universal Access. usually you want the cursor size set to Normal.
something like this depending on your version of os x:

  • Clone stamp & eraser have a mind of their own!

I have recently moved from CS2 up to CS5, and am loving all the changes, however the last few days I have been in all sorts of trouble with the following issue.
When using the clone stamp, or eraser, or even a brush , the cursor keeps jumping half a screen away at odd times causing either whole sections to erased (when using the shift key) or cloning a part elswhere on the image.
This is really hard to explain, yet easy to demonstrate, but I first noticed it the other day when i was erasing part of a layer and holding down the shift key ....as I clicked along the curve I was erasing, after about the 3rd click it would fly off to another part of the image, OK not a catastrophe as all you do is back up one move, but it happens frequently. The same for detailed cloning ...I am cloning away and it the shoots off at a tangent...
I recently invested in a USB wireless mouse, which was great, and did wonder if it was the batteries running low and sending out wrong signals, but I swapped back to hard wired mouse, but the problem persisted - however it was not as frequent.
Its driving me mad as when I zoom out of an image i have been detailing, there are rogue patches on it where its jumped to and i havent noticed..
    Any ideas?

OpenGL is a system for displaying graphics, which when done properly leverages more of the power of your GPU than the normal Windows GDI can.  Thus when enabled in Photoshop we gain access to smooth panning/zooming, brush gestures, and can even use it for some of the 3D work in Photoshop Extended.  OpenGL is implemented in video drivers/firmware/hardware.
But OpenGL is very complex, and video driver updates come out all the time with fixes or enhanced OpenGL functionality.  Some work better than others, and bugs in the drivers can result in some very strange effects.  Sometimes new bugs are introduced.
Edit - Preferences - Performance, uncheck [ ] Use OpenGL Drawing.  If this helps, your video drivers likely have bugs.  They may be latest, in which case you'll need to wait for an update.  Or get a different video card.
It is also possible that with OpenGL Drawing enabled, changing the Advanced settings can help.

  • Clone stamp "preview" does not work

Dear Community, I have a problem with clone stamp on my Pshop.
I read the forum to find some help, found some threads but without good results.
I use PShop CS5 + Bridge on a Mac “All in one”, all options works fine.
Some time ago I changed some option (don’t remember which) to try new way of using the clone stamp.
That is ok, but after that the “preview” of the clone stamp does not appear, as I was moved the the previous version of PS.
    Some details:
    I activate the clone stamp
    set dimension, etc.
    I see the pointer, ok
Move the pointer to the source and click
Then simply move the pointer to the target area
Before the problem without pressing any key I saw the “preview” of the effect. Now, I see the correct effect but only AFTER having clicked the mouse
Reading previous thread, I reset the tool options, then reset all tools option, then checked the dimension of the pointer (in the general option section).
    Nothing changed.
I read that reinstall PShop is useless, since reinstall does not remove corrupted files if any (but which file?).
Since every other feature is working properly, it looks like a strange setting I set without being aware of that …
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Pierpi

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (like Options Bar, Layers and Clone Source Panel) visible?
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?
