CS5 Crop Tool Presets Not Working - HELP!

I am using CS5. The Photoshop crop tool presets are not working. For instance, if I use the Preset 8 inch x 10 inch and drag on an image which is say 12 x14 the crop does not stop at 8x10 but continues on to cover the whole image OR it covers only a portion of the image but the size of the crop is NOT 8x10 - it might be 10x12.
Actually there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what it is doing.
I have cleared it, reset it, saved (my own presets) and reloaded. I have closed out of Photoshop and even rebooted my computer.
Any Ideas what is going on and how to fix it? All help will be greatly appreciated.

It's kinda hard to tell from your description, but try the following
and see if it helps:
Make sure you don't have any values entered in the tool options bar
for the width, height and resolution. If you do, use the clear button.
If still not working, try resetting the photoshop preferences:
Hold down the shft+alt+ctrl keys while starting photoshop, continue holding the keys
until a dialog appears asking to reset the settings file, click yes.

HELP - lightroom 4, my cropping tool is not working as it use too.

I use to be able to grab a corner of the crop tool, usually the bottom right corner, then manipulate moving it to desired size. Now, when I grab this corner, I can only push in one direction. If I push too much, then the horizontal becomes a vertical, bouncing between the two. I have checked to see if I may have changed something in the settings, but see nothing to change. Anyone have ideas, would greatly appreciate some help, thanks. Steve

I'm not quite understanding the issue. But I'm wondering if this is a problem caused by having the aspect ratio locked. If you click on the little padlock that's visible in the crop tool controls, does that make a difference for you?

My crop tool is not working.

Everytime I try to crop an image, the window showing "progress" pulls up, but only makes it about 1/5 of the way on the bar. It never finishes the cropping job, the windown just sits there. I have reset the tool AND uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop. What do I do?

In photoshop CS5, Brush tool doesn't work on an adjustment layer

I Created an adjustment (Curves) layer and did the curves adjustment. Then I did an Edit Fill (Normal Mode, 100% Opacity and Use: Black).
I then try to use the brush tool, but it doesn't work. I've done this hundreds of times before and suddenly it's not working. Rebooted the system, but that didn't help.
I know how to do a screen shot, but it doesn't paste onto this screen. How do I get that to you?

Photoshop CS6 cropping tools is not good

Everyone who is using Adobe Photoshop CS6 product, the cropping tool is not good as when I try to crop the image moves but not the cropping tool which makes confusing and time consuming.
When I have to print an emergency photo I have to do it within 5 minutes but that cropping tool always makes me confused. Thats why I didn't like photoshop CS6. Currently I am using CS5 product. The next crop tool works better but when I try to move it, image will go misleading.
My question is how you are managing it???

If you ask nicely, the development engineers might provide a single button that toggles back to 'Luddite' mode. I am not being smug, because I had a wee hissy fit when I first encountered the new Crop tool in the CS6 beta, but I versy soon changed my mind and love it to bits now. Give them a proper try out and see if you can get used to the new tools.

I have the same issue, I am not sure which version so I had on my old computer but when I got a new windows 7 64bit, and asked IT to install Adobe, my life turned upside down. now they asked if I need X or 9pro and I though 9pro is the latest and greatest.. they installed the standard first then could not edit then asked for the pro and could not edit ... now I search and maybe version X will edit but if the document is signed and we do need to do lots of editing after the signature then what is the solution??

We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
Plug-in installation instructions:
1. Close Photoshop Elements
2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
• For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
• For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.

Crop Tool does not snap reliably

Still getting used to Photoshop CS5.1. I am having problems with the crop tool. It is supposed to snap to my guides, but it is very haphazard about this. Sometimes it is a pixel or 2 off on one or more edges. This means I have to pay very close attention while cropping, and double check the accuracy of results. This slows me way down. I do mostly web graphics, where pixel accurate crops are essential. I already tried resetting the crop tool. I am using a Mac Pro, early 2008, with 10 GB RAM, and Mountain Lion 10.8.1.

I think the the Crop Tool always snaps to pixels while it is initially dragged to size. If a guide is not precisely on a pixel boundary then the Crop Tool will not initially snap exactly to the guide - it should snap to the next outward pixel boundary.
After the initial dragging out of the crop box, slightly drag each of its sides away from the guide and back to the guide for a correct snap to the guide.
If your guides are supposed to be on pixel boundaries then the problem may be that they are a tiny bit off and so the Crop Tool is snapping to the next pixel boundary outwards. To ensure guides snap to pixels, set the ruler to pixels and hold down Shift while dragging a guide to make it snap to ruler divisions (regardless of the rulers actually being visible or not).

The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press CtrlAltShift/CmdOptionShift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).
