CS5: CS Live

There has to be a way to disable the "CS Live" toolbar menu in Illustrator. Doesn't there?
There is an option in Photoshop: it's in the Preferences menu, under "Plugins". No such option in Illy.
I might have had a use for this feature—I'm not dead set against it. But as it happens I don't have a use for it, and I don't want it cluttering up my workspace, in its attention-grabbing way. It's noise that doesn't help either the eye or the brain.
Please Adobe add an option (or even a registry patch) that allows this feature to be turned off.
Anyway, shouldn't CS Live have been an optional component in the CS5 install? Maybe I can doctor the xmls. (But we shouldn't have to, should we.)

Last, what you call CS4 update is nothing but a little filter that aloud you to use CS3 (old version) crop marks. BUT the problem is:
After switching to the Illustrator CS3 Crop Marks filter (following the steps noted above), the Illustrator CS4 Crop Marks effect will not be available. Opening any Illustrator CS4 files that contain objects with the Crop Marks effect created using the Illustrator CS4 Crop Marks effect will require expanding the object to proceed with further editing. This is a standard Illustrator behavior when a plug-in is missing.

Color issues w/ .png and .gif files in CS5.5 Live view

Hi All,
I am having a bunch of trouble with my .png and .gif image files in Dreamweaver CS5.5. In Dreamweaver's design view everything looks fine but when I preview my pages in Live View or in a browser the colors in my .png and .gif files are way off. All my images are designed in RGB.
Any info anyone has to offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

GIFS contain a maximum of 216 colors (web safe palette)
PNG and JPG can contain 16 million colors (true color palette),
When you say the colors are "way off" we don't know what you mean.

Server Not Found - php in CS5.5 'Live Code' Issues

Hi
I'm new to this Forum, so hello to one and all.
I have just started to learn php and was lead to believe that CS5.5 would be able to let me see what was happening when I place a new bit of php in the Live View. However, all I get is an error code saying the following:
Server Not Found
The page "http://ftp.sharkdesigns.co.uk/public_html/php.php" was not loaded because Dreamweaver could not find the server "ftp.sharkdesigns.co.uk". Please make sure you are connected to the internet and the server name is correct.
Not being a computer buff I have no idea why this should be happening, since I have built my web site on the CS4 version without any issues.
I have learned some HTML, CSS etc. by sheer trial and error, since the books I have assume that you know what you’re talking about to be able to read what they are talking about, but nobody explained what they are talking about when they talk about the stuff that you need to know … Confused? Join my world, because I’m so confused that I have lost track of everything I have learned and don’t know where to look in the hope that an answer will materialise. The problem is that I don’t use the special terms that are so common in this industry often enough to remember what they actually mean for more than a few minutes, so when I try to learn something new, I have to start all over again as if I didn’t know anything at all. By way of added frustration, I also don’t know what to ask or how to ask for it because I don’t know that it is there to be asked for in the first place (example: - if you can’t spell the word ‘One’, and there is no one else to ask how it is spelled, how do you look it up in a dictionary unless you can already spell it?).
The problem I have is that if it works I can use it, but if it doesn’t work you need a Masters degree to get it to work to use it, which I don’t, and there is just on one to ask what is going wrong. So unless you know what to ask and how to ask for it, which I don’t, you just have an error message that stumps you before you have even started.
I know that this is a lot of rambling, but I just need my system to work so that I can lean a little php to make my web site run better, and there is no one I know who can help.

If you have just started to learn php then you will want to set up a local server testing environment to test your pages rather than keep uploading the files to your remote and checking them out, which seems a bit backwards to me if your'e going to be using php a lot.

Can I import settings from CS5's Live Trace to CS6's Image Trace?

I'm loving CS6 Illustrator, except for one thing. Image Trace. Here, Adobe seem to have taken away the two most usefull settings from Live Trace, and replaced all the presets with ones that are pretty much unusable. I almost always used either 'Comic Art' or 'Lettering' to trace hand-drawn images, but they're both gone. None of the new settings are good enough, even if I make a custom one. The main issue is that the sliders in Image Trace are for completely different things to those in Live Trace, so it's difficult to translate one set of settings into the other.
With Image Trace, I cannot get the same results as with Live Trace, and so far, have found myself having to have Illustrator CS5 open at the same time as CS6, just so I can get workable traces.
I don't know if it's possible, but is there any way to import the presets from Live Trace, or even the full tool, into CS6, to replace the new Image Trace presets?
If not, does anyone know how to make the equivelant of Comic Art in Image Trace's new settings?
Images, to help define the problem: This is a close up of a file I was trying to trace, showing the major difference in quality between the two CS versions.
Left: CS5 - Comic Art setting.
Right: CS6 - This is a custom setting, but is the closest I have come to Comic Art thus far.
As you can see, the definition of Image Trace is far lower in quality than Live Trace, giving me one large connected blob of colour rather than the distictly separate lines produced in Live Trace.

I can't show the original as it is a HUGE file, 10000 pixels wide. I scan as high as my scanner will go. And that 10000 is shrunk down already so as not to exhaust my RAM. Below is a smaller version, but yes it is a b/w drawing but on a colour scan. It's been treated using Levels in Photoshop to remove the grey/blue colour of the paper, but nothing else.
I can see round the edges of the black in Photoshop that there are bits of colour, mainly reds/yellows. What do you think I need to do to it to help it trace better?
Actually, I'll throw in my Image Trace settings too, so people can see what settings I'm currenty trying... I got the Threshold directly from Comic Art in CS5.5.

CS5.5 Live View is very slow compare to CS5?

I have just installed a trial version of Dreamweaver CS5.5.
I tried on the Live View. However, to my surprise, everything render in CS5.5 is extremely slow?
It works great for me in CS5 but not CS5.5
Any idea why?

I tried what you sayed, but without luck.
I mostly experience trouble with jQuery effects.
And yes i tried it with disabling my testing server(but normal i realy need this, because i build php based websites).
Also i have the same problem with the inbuild templates.
When i use jquery i experience this trouble the most.

Dreamweaver CS5.5 live view problems

1.) As described in this Thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3204440#3204440 the Live View is very slow, when edit/design a php-page which uses external css files
2.) The live view does not support/show css3 tags, e.g. box-shadow or border-radius, altough the css-panel knows these tags. it is necessary to open the page in a local browser or in multiscreen-preview to see the design.

Actually, it does. You need, however, to choose a local path option for
the scripts.
Dreamweaver is a marvelous program, but like everything else made with
human hands and minds - it's not perfect. Live View is a very misleading
feature - actually, the only folks I know who find it useful are
beginners (who believe it works) and authors who write books and
tutorials that teach how to use it. It's worth at least one chapter of
filler

INDD CS5.5- Live/Static Caption for "TIME" meta tag (eg 3:30pm)

Love the caption feature, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to add a TIME caption to a photo. (eg. 3:30pm). InDesign has a DATE and every other imaginatble caption option, but no TIME. Any advice or workarounds would be greatly appricated.

Setting a time variable (Type | Text Variables | Define) is nice, but I'll need a variable that references the photo's meta data.... The goal is to create a photo book in which each photo has a time caption (5:31PM).

CS3 to CS5 Issues

Hi from a first time poster!.
Basically my organisation has upgraded fro CS3 to CS5 and we are having a few performance issues.
Can i configure the preferences so that when i pan around a document with lage images or artwork placed in it the screen does not go all jerky?.
Is this something to do with CS5's live draw function?.
Also is it possible to copy and paste images from a CS3 document to a CS5 document?, currently when we try the images are not being recognized in the CS5 document.

For the jerkiness go to your preferences and change the live draw to delayed, or if that doesn't help, maybe never. The place to go is Edit > Preferences > General.
When you try to past from CS3 to CS5 do you have both open in CS5? Might sound a dumb question but if you have one open in CS3 and one in CS5 it isn't going to work, so even if you have a document you want to keep in CS3 for the purposes of copying just open it in CS5, it wil convert to a CS5 document and you will be able to copy and paste between them.
One last tip, when converting docs to CS5 from CS3, particularly larger ones, there have been quite a few reports of instability, sometimes leading to corruption, but mind you we only see the problems on this forum. To prevent this happening the best route is to export from CS3 to inx format and open that in CS5. YOu can do that automatically with whole folders (and sub-folders) of files with the batch convertor script that is my latest favourite, it is made by Peter Kahrel and is free, you'll find it here. With that you can use it in CS3 to convert a whole batch to inx, then use it in CS5 to convert those inx files to CS5 indd. Super handy, really fast, and great for mass exports too.

I'm using Mac OSX 10.6.8 (poor college student can't afford the newest update.)
I purchased my mac in August 2008.

Change anchor point on Photoshop Live 3D image?

It is possible to change the anchor point on a Photoshop Live 3D model?
I've imported a (.obj) 3D model into Photoshop (CS5.5) Live 3D layer (in order to be able to export as a PS Live .PSD and import into After Effects) howver I need to change the anchor point to one of the 4 corners, rather than dead centre which is the default. I thought it would easy just to import the .PSD file into After Effects and move the anchor point in there, but this seems impossible. So, can the anchor point be moved inside of Photoshop before I export it?

What do you mean by »Photoshop Live 3D«?
If you need to change the 3D-object’s mesh I’m afraid that will have to be done outside of Photoshop.
But if you could post a mock-up or screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible the issue might get clearer.

It depends on whether you want to keep cs4 or not.
There is really no need to uninstall cs4, as both cs4 and cs5 can "live together"
If your sure that you don't want to keep cs4, then yes, it would be a good idea to uninstall cs4 before installing cs5.

Automatic numbering /metadata in captions in cs5

In CS5 generating live captions means using some metadata from the file in the caption.
I don't want to have any metadata in my caption, I just want there to be numbers.
How can I do this?

If you're trying to create figure numbers, you should use the Bullets and Numbering feature to create figure captions:

Streaming live webcam feed to website - what is the problem ?

Ok, first of all hello everyone - i searched this on the forum and come up with couple of solutions which i already did so hopefully someone can answer my question.
I have installed flash media server, flash cs5, media live encoder to be able to view my webcam feed via my website. Now in addition to these, i started streaming to localhost, and installed a dns updater which updates a name server according to my current ip. Then i wrote this dns address in the feed's source from flash 5 as rtmp://thednsname.somedns.net/live/livestream
so far so good, i also forwarded the ports 1935 incoming and outgoing from modem to my computer as well (because 1935 is said to be the default port number for media server). firewall -> closed (just in case); and my internet provider doesn't block ports...
started the media server (with admin privilage in 7), started the live encoder, connect to localhost, start live feed.
NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound : Adobe Flash tried to play a live or recorded stream that does not exist. Source can't be found.
I DONT get this error, which means it finds a stream but on the website there is absolutely nothing. Any ideas will be much appreciated, i think i'm running out of steam here...

If I am not wrong, you said that you are publishing a livestream and wanted to see the "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound : " error on client-side whenever you fail to play a stream, right? so, basically it depends upon what value of the argument "starttime" are you using in your netstream.play call @ client side code, as it follows that:
startTime - A number indicating the playback start time, in seconds. If no value is specified, the value is -2. If startTime is -2, the server tries to play a live stream with the name specified in streamName . If no live stream is available, the server tries to play a recorded stream with the name specified in
streamName . If no recorded stream is found, the server creates a live stream with the name specified in streamName and waits for someone to publish to that stream. If startTime is -1, the server attempts to play a live stream with the name specified in streamName and waits for a publisher if no specified live stream is available. If startTime is greater than or equal to 0, the server plays the recorded stream with the name specified in streamName , starting from the time given. If no recorded stream is found, the play() method is ignored. If a negative value other than -1 is specified, the server interprets it as -2. This parameter is optional.
This also means, you will get "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound : " error on client-side if you are using 0 because in that case it will directly look for a recorded video file with the given name and will not wait for publisher to publish a livestream with that name and therefore will immediately return the string error "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound : ".

Help with spry menu css

Very new to this, so...in an effort to code a page using a spry menu bar for a mobile device, I made the following edits: 1) renamed MenuBarHorizontal to MenuBarMyCompany 2) renamed MenuBarVertical to MenuBarMyCompany 3) moved the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css code to MyCompanyStyle.css 4) moved the SpryMenuBarVertical.css code to mobile.css. These changes are displayed exactly as I’d hoped in Dreamweaver CS5.5 Live View; however, the menu bar styling is does not display at all in Safari or Firefox browsers. Any advice? Thanks so much.

In Dreamweaver CS5's Live View, the navigation menu appears perfectly in line with background image and same is the true when previewed in Google Chrome and Safari. However when previewed in Firefox or Opera, the navigation menu appears a little below the background image and leaves kind of a dent which is clearly visible. I have not yet tried it in IE.
I have posted this question before but didn't find any solution.
