Cs5 cs3 compatibility

hello.
i am at school that requires student to purchase the Current adobe CS suite when they enter as freshman.
we now have CS5 in our labs. Students cannot figure a way to get there CS5 files into CS3.
is this possible?
thaks,
harvey

InDesign files are not backwards compatible. In CS4 there was an option to save files in a interchange format that 3 could open, but I don't see that option in CS5. You might try saving in the IDML from the export menu, but the chances of CS 3 opening it are not good.
Dreamweaver should work as it's just html/css etc...
Photoshop should work backwards
Finally can't speak to flash as I don't use it.
Hope this helps some.

Check to see what each program has an optioon for in the save as dialgue box.
E.I. Flash CS4 can save as CS3 and CS3 can Save as CS2 and as well Illustrator can do the same same but in a borader spectrum even sa low as AI 9.
My suggestion would be to make native files of each in CS5 app and test then go back to CS 5 and try all of the save as opitons using the legacy options. I can probably say Phtooshop, and Illustrator will not be so hard but Flash, Encore, Premier, After Effects, etc., will be shoot and miss especially since you are going from CS5 all the way down to CS3.
I ebleiev Phtooshop is the only one that can do it if you sue the most campatable opitons check bix when saving a .PSD file.
Remmebr as a strudent even though you get a great deal when you buy a student version of the suite you can never upgrade those licenses. SO you arn't really getting a deal you will eventallu pay for a full suite amdprobab;y more if you keep buyion student versions.
Buy full versions and never look back. Upgrade costs for full licenses are just as much as buying a new student version every new release. I tell students all teh time by a full version and be ready once you graduate.

  • Can PP CS5 & CS3 be installed on the same computer?

Can PP CS5 & CS3 be installed on the same computer? Will they both function?
I know I have to updates to windows 7. I have a 3gig quad core pros with 4 gigs ram.

Yes they can be installed on the same pc, but i think you are a bit low on ram.

  • CS3 to CS5 Upgrade - Compatibility Issues...?

Our company is thinking of upgrading to Adobe CS5 and will therefore have to upgrade hardware as well (running Power PC based Macs throughout the art and prepress departments). From what I've heard CS5 only works on Intel based Macs?
They are wanting to do a progressive roll out of new Intel-based iMacs which will obviously come pre loaded with Mac OS 10.6 - we are currently running Mac OS 10.4 on the G5 PPC Macs.
Straight away I see alarm bells ringing... only 1 Mac will be upgraded in each of the Art, Prepress and Digital Departments. There will still be 5 Macs within the area which will still be PPC based (3 in Art, 1 in Prepress and 1 in Digital).
My main question is - would you still be able to run old software (CS3, Quark 6, etc.) on a new Intel iMac so that all Macs across the departments will be able to open the same files regardless of hardware being used?
I know it defeats the purpose of upgrading to new and more powerful software and hardware - but I see no point personally in doing a progressive roll out of hardware and software if it is not going to be done across the entire range of workstations with the same department. Also a lot of outside companies that we deal with have already been upgrading to CS4 and recently CS5. The last time we upgraded hardware was in 2006...
Any replies would be helpful - personally the only way I can see an upgrade working is to apply it across all three departments. It will hit the hip pocket in one huge go but at least everyone will be singing from the same hymn sheet!
    Regards, Shaun

The CS3 programs should run fine on those new Macs. Anything older would be a problem.
That said, if you're going to do this, everyone should be upgraded at the same time because of incompatibilities between versions, especially InDesign.
As for Quark, you'll need to check with them. I haven't used it in many many years.

  • CS3 Compatibility Issue

I've been working on a couple of documents in InDesign CS5 (trial version) and trying to transfer them to a version of InDesign CS3 that I use elsewhere but there are compatibility issues.  Is there some way I can save my files as an idx file because I heard that works for compatibility or is there something else I can do to make it work?
If not where can I get a trial version of InDesign CS3?
    Thanks!

The ONLY way to get from CS5 to CS3 is to export to .idml from CS5, then open that in CS4, export to .inx from CS4, and fianlly open that in CS3. If you've taken advantage of the new features in CS5 your document may be so mangled that it will be useless.

  • Camera Raw 6.3 and CS3 compatibility

Hello group, this is my 1st post  -
I'm one of the, perhaps few, users still running Photoshop CS3. So far it's continued to serve me well.
My question is whether Camera Raw 6.3 might be compatible with Photoshop CS3 when it is released. I've downloaded and installed it but couldn't access the RAW files from a neat little Canon S95 I recently picked up.
I'm guessing that in order to use ACR for these (and the newer camera RAW files) I'm going to need to update to CS 5. I downloaded the 6.3 DNG converter as intermediate work-around.
If ACR 6.3 will only be compatible with CS5, it seems a bit of a shame because, (in essence) a newer camera ends up costing that much more.
Thanks for any info or feedback anyone can share.
    John

That actually sounds like progress.  Don't worry, we'll get there.
In Photoshop CS, what version do you see when you choose Help - About Plug-in... and click on Camera Raw?
We're hoping to see Camera Raw 2.4.  If it is not, we may need to find the Camera Raw.8bi file that Photoshop is finding and remove it, then install this update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2701
Almost the same exercise as before, but this time using the proper version of Camera Raw for Photoshop CS.

  • OSX Lion & Prod. Prem. CS5.5 Compatibility

I'm one of those who Apple betrayed with their abandonment of their Pro Video customers, and along with masses of my fellow colleagues, have happily switched to Production Premium. I am the owner of a small production company for 11 years, with several active Mac editing bays/ a director / producer / editor, window cleaner, and I empty the trash too .
Accordingly, I thought it would be prudent and very informative to start a thread with regard to today's release of OSX 10.7 Lion and the corresponding compatibility of any and all Production Premium CS5.5 applications.
My initial and brief investigation has already revealed some incompatibilities. These can  be found at the following link: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table/tags/_a/index_tags/_a
Pursuant to the findings at the above link, I have NOT yet upgraded any of our editing workstations to Lion. I thank all contributors, in advance for their collaboration. I too will post back any information I find.
Let the bruising of the apple begin!...

  • Scripting CS5- CS3

I'm not sure what posessed me to read the latest thread about people complaining about the inability to downsave from CS5 to CS3 (over in the general forum), but then I had a goofy thought:
What if someone wrote a script to iterate over a document and dump the whole thing in JSON (JavaScript Object Notation), or whatever, and then import it into CS3?
(Originally I was thinking, I wonder why no one who is concerned about this doesn't sit down and write the horrible bear of an XSLT translation from IDML to INX? It certainly wouldn't be pleasant, and it would be a pain to get all the corner cases right, but it should be do-able...) I wondered if there wasn't a format other than IDML or INX that descrbed reasonably well the format of an InDesign document, and then I realized that the Scripting DOM is basically such a model. And even better, since you can ask InDesign to use an older version of the scripting DOM, you can ensure that you don't give CS3 anything that it shouldn't be able to evaluate.
Now...I'm not going to write this tool, but it doesn't seem like it should be more than a few days of work for someone who is eager and interested (maybe none of those people have CS5? I suppose that's not an impediment though! No need for CS5 to write the code...). You just loop over all the properties of the document recursively ("for (i in app.activeDocument)...").
There are probably a whole bunch of corner-cases that need special handling, And some decisions would have to be made about text...maybe the easiest answer with text would be to export it as InDesign Tagged Text and throw that representation in the file, rather than having to loop over individual characters and determine where overrides stopped and started.
And you'd have to be very careful not to get caught in loops in the DOM. Anyhow, does anyone want to do this?
Remember, only forty-two thousand nine-hundred-and-sixty non-unique page views:
p.s.: (Please don't post about this crazy idea in the General forum...I wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea...)

    For:
    1. If people complain it misses features (such as GREP styles), they can be invited to write a workaround themselves!
    2. JS is version independent. Well, largely, at least. If some properties in CS6 or '7 change names (again!), it should be relatively easy to update.
    3. JSON is a general format (isn't it? I'd have to look into it) so, finally, the writers of Scribus have something to look into.
    Against:
    1. You need the same ID version as the document, because otherwise you cannot open it.
    2. It Won't Ever Work, because (if you read that thread) people who "need" the downsave are expecting way too much.
    Neutral:
    1. Does this mean I can stop working on my experimental CSx binary-image-to-INX conversion?

  • List your CS6 to CS5.x Compatibility Issues Here

I'm in a multi office environment with a network, I'm the only staff person with CS6 and all our CS5.x users have been getting errors opening CS6 files despite me having file compatibility set to "Always":
"The document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable..."
Warnings about missing "color books" even though I don't use PANTONE
"Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"
I just chatted with Adobe and after a long session here were their non-answers:
"There is a lot of features in CS6 that will not work on CS5 and we will not be able to help you in opening the CS 6 image in CS5."
"I am sorry, I understand that, however we will not be able to help you with that."
"You can disable the Third Party Plug-ins" (I'm not using any)
So... let's start our own list of KNOWN ISSUES with Photoshop version compatibilty
CS6 vector strokes. Any file I send with the new vector strokes can not be opened by CS5.x users
It seems if I flatten all shape layers and smart objects it helps, however our PSDS have hundreds of layers and even with the new search feature this is tedious. Plus you get into having two versions of a final file floating around which is a liability.
    What have you found? Thanks!

    c.pfaffenbichler wrote:
Not for me, again the option to »Flatten« or »Keep Layer« (in which case the [Color Lookup] Adjuszment Layer becomes an empty Layer and the appearance changes compared to CS6).
It would be sensible for a CS6-saved Max Compat document to contain a compatibility rasterization of a Color Lookup Adjustment Layer, and for CS5.x to use it instead of an empty layer when "Keep Layers" is chosen so there would be no change in appearance.
Notice that blending options and effects will be on the empty layer in CS5.1.
Either CS6 is failing to save the pixels of the compatibility rasterization into the file or CS5.1 is failing to populate its layer with pixels. Hopefully, the former and a fix will be forthcoming because there's no chance of CS5.x being updated now.
There's a similar problem with an empty raster layer appearing in CS5.1 when opening a 16-bit CS6-saved document containing a Shape Layer that has a CS6-Shape Stroke, whereas the compatibility raster layer will be correct in CS5.1 if the document is 8-bit.

  • InDesign CS5 Backwards Compatibility??

My client uses CS3. She sent me an INDD document to revise, save, and send back to her, but guess what!? I can't! I can export as IDML, but InDesign CS3 cannot open IDML files. Unless I'm missing a plugin somewhere? Any ideas? Why, oh why, did Adobe do it this way?
Is there any other way besides tracking down a friend with CS4 and begging them to export as an INX for me?
Just a note - I've regretted getting CS5 since the day I installed it. Nothing. But. Problems.
Client and I both work on Macs, if that matters for plugin purposes. Any info at this point is helpful. Thanks in advance.

    madhatterdesignco wrote:
And beyond that, why would I want to take up hard drive space with two versions of the same program? My point is that Adobe made a mistake, assuming there are no plugins for CS3 that allow for the opening of IDML files. I haven't been able to locate anything, which is why I asked here.
And sorry, I think I understand what you're saying about "one version" backwards saving. But like I said, that's not an option for me.
As  I said, the one version thing is not new. Been there since CS2, the first version that could export a file that was at all backward compatible, and it is not unique to Adobe. The differnces between versions are significant, and back-saving is very unreliable for any file that should look the same after conversion.
Why would you want both versions? To be able to work with legacy files and service your clients.

  • CS3 Compatibility

Does anyone know if Flash CS3, Fireworks CS3, and Dreamweaver CS3 all have compatibility with mountain lion. And if so, is there any resources I can refer to?

I think there can be some issues. Check the details of your CS3 applications at this website for compatibility with Snow Leopard.

    Beta is no longer available.
You can sign up for the trial notification when it becomes
    avialble here

As for compatibility, the only thing I have encountered is
the improved Text Engine. Opening pre- CS4 files in CS4 you will be
prompted/instructed to update 'type' if needed.

  • CS5 - CS3

How can I open a CS-5 (InDesign) document in CS-3? I have both versions installed.

open the document in the cs5 and export the file in "IDML"
Open this "IDML" file in cs4 nad export it again in "INX"
this INX file will be compatible and will open up in CS3 ..............You need to have CS4 for this.

  • CS5/CS3 nightmare.

I am running Illustrator CS5 while the rest of my studio is running CS3.
Ridiculous I know but I'm not the boss.
Anyway, saving my files in CS5 causes problems when someone else opens them in CS3.
I know that it's possible to save as a Legacy Format but it's annoying having to 'Save As' all the time.
Is there anyway to automate Illustrator so it always saves down to a CS3 version, even when I just press Apple-S?
    Cheers

If you open a file from an old version and then just Save, the file will stay in that old version. Illustrator shows a warning message.
But that is the only way to do so.

  • CS3 compatibility with Yosemite

Hi, I have an inherited version of CS3 on my PPC(!) iMac G5 and am planing to purchase a new intel iMac with Mavericks installed and I might upgrade to Yosemite.
The question is, will I be able to migrate my software to the new mac and will it work! Has anyone had this experience?
    Thank you.

It is working on my intel iMac with Mavericks, (at least Illustrator, Dreamweaver and InDesign are, I have not checked CS3 Photoshop because I have the CS5 version of that) but I had installed and updated all the apps back when I had older OS versions (Leopard, Snow Leopard, etc.) and when I tried to do a fresh install recently, I was able to install them but not apply the updates from Adobe. The Adobe updater will just claim that it could not make an internet connection (even though you are connected to the internet) and won't update them. If you just drag the most up-to-date versions over (or migrate them with the migration tool when you set up the new iMac) they should work and be as up-to-date as 2007 apps can be, even if that is not the ideal way to install them as opposed to a clean install.
