CS5 - CS5.5 Upgrade - Changes to Paragraph Composition?

Hi,
When I upgraded a while ago from CS2 to CS5, many of the files I'd finished and sent to the printers were significantly altered when opened in CS5 (orphans and widows were created, generally the spacing of words in the paragraphs was altered). Can anyone let me know how "safe" it is to open a CS5 file in CS5.5? I expect to have to make very minor corrections to a number of files and don't want to have to typeset everything all over again from scratch because of the upgrade.

There were huge differences in the text engines between CS2 and CS5, but CS5.5 uses the same engine as CS5 so you should be fine. If you're worried, Export from CS5 to .idml and open that in CS5.5. That will force any reflow to happen when you open the file rather than waiting until you click in a story.
Keep in mind that the only way to go back from CS5.5 to CS5 is to export to .idml. The .indd file is not backwards compatible.

CS5.5 upgrade or just InDesign upgrade?

I just downloaded a trial upgrade for InDesign CS5.5. It looks like I need to run that in order to work in my new Lion environment.
Does anyone know if it's worth upgrading the full suite? It doesn't look like my other workhorses, Illustrator and Photoshop, are improved.
If I only upgrade InDesign now, will I be able to upgrade my full suite later when new program versions are added?

I have a new computer running os10.9. my old computer ran cs5.5(upgrade version). I am trying to get CS5.5onto my new computer. when i load cs5.5 towards the end of the install it asks for the cs5.5 serial number. i put that in and everything is accepted

When I try to open CS4 document in CS5 it is changing all my type to outline type???

Has anyone else experienced when you open a CS4 document in CS5 that it changes your formatted text into outline text?

InDesign CS5.5 upgrade

I currently have InDesign CS4 Design Premium. I purchased and downloaded the InDesign CS5.5 upgrade as I only want to update InDesign and not the entire Design Premium package, but when I try to activate I am told I can't. I suspect this is because the serial number I have for my existing Design Premium package is not recognized as being InDesign CS4 only. Can someone please assist? I can upgrade just a portion of the Design Premium package, right?

Ok so there is a way. Call Adobe (who were very very helpful) And they will obtain a special allowance for upgrade of a single component of indesign. Over the phone they will cancell your serial number and give you a new one. This apparently is the only way to do this. I have just done this and it worked. It makes sense to be able to just upgrade one (what if you only use indesign and cannot justify the costly entire collection upgrade when photoshop is still cs5 anyway. Try that and be very clear on phone that this is what you require. they should be helpful

CS3 to CS5 -- Now colors change automatically... can I disable that?

Being in printing I often make swatch charts to get a range of colors for color matching when profiles aren't close enough. Beginning at a certain color, I gradually decrease one color horizontally (say cyan) and another color vertically (say magenta).
In other words, my top row might have 3 squares (1: c100, m100, y0, k0 -- 2:c100, m90, y0, k0 -- 3:c100, m80, y0, K0)
Below that, I'd copy those and change the cyan value from 100 to 90 in all three boxes and it would keep the varying magenta values. Copy again and make it 80 and so on until I have a range I can print to find the color that's closest. This worked well in CS3 and every Illustrator version before it.
Now, in CS5, when you change one value (like cyan), it "auto-corrects" the other colors (magenta, yellow or black) to the last one entered so all the colors match. It's crazy annoying. Anyone had any a similar experience? Any suggestions on how to make this work like it used to? I hate whe Adobe changes the proper functionality of their products.
Please help... I keep having to relaunch CS3 to save time when building these swatch charts. Thanks in advance.

Font names are invisible in Ai CS5 after upgrading to OSX 10.10 Yosemite

I am having a minor drawback on Adobe Illustrator CS5 after upgrading my iMac to OS X 10.10 Yosemite. The thing is when trying to select a font form a Type>Font selection mostly all font names are invisible. This only happens in Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign works fine. I have attached a screenshot of what I am seeing: after hovering with my mouse pointer over the particular font the name appears, but otherwise not.
I will also address this issue to Apple support as well.

Can't install InDesign CS5.5 Upgrade

I've just purchased the InDesign CS5.5 upgrade to update myself from InDesign CS2 (both for Mac and Australian market). The Installation recognizes my new serial number, but not my previous CS2 serial number that I have to key in as I don't have InDesign CS2 installed anymore (and don't want to as it will only run in Classic mode). What's the solution??? Both are legitimate products. Would like some answers please.

You have to contact Adobe Support for this,
When you will enter the Adobe CS5 serial number and then click next the Indesign cs2 to be selected and then enter its serila number.
If it gets accepted it will get install other wise you need to contact the Adobe to get it sorted.

Simply go ahead installing CS5.5. All you need is the CS3 serial number for verification.

CS5 Design Upgrade Erases CS5 Production?

I want to upgrade from Illustrator CS 3 to
Production Premium CS 5 - $1099
in addition to...
upgrade to Design Premium CS 5 - $599
(from Prod Prem CS5)
for InDesign, Dreamweaver & Acrobat
(I don't need nor want other apps in Master collection)
I have already purchased both software upgrade packages and am waiting on a new computer to install...
I noticed the CS5 Prod Premium upgrade package did NOT list Illustrator CS 3... so I called customer support and was basically told they do not recommend installing both Production, and Design upgrades as it will work but may cause problems with hard drive???
I then called Sales to find out what my upgrade options were and was told that CS5 Design upgrade ($599) will ERASE the CS5 Production upgrade??? So my only options are either CS5 Production with Separate Individual purchases for InDesign, DreamWeaver, Acrobat... or CS5 Master Collection.
So support says It will work but may have problems... Sales says it will not work unless I buy the Master Collection. Figures!
I am not able to afford (nor do I want) the CS5 Master Collection... so if this won't work I will have to return both... and just order the CS 5 Design Premium upgrade from Illustrator CS 3 ($1499)
As I am waiting for my new Macbook Pro and have no way to try it out (on my G4 powerbook) any advice or explanation would be greatly appreciated

It will not cause problems with your hard drive, but there maybe conflicts with the licensing and/or copy protection system Adobe uses. You will really be unable to tell until you install the upgrades, unless another uses has had a reproducible catastrophe, since if it works now there is no guarantee to future performance. However, a well designed licensing system should not have a problem with what you are trying to do. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

CS5 extended upgrade doesn't install over CS5

Trying to install a purchased CS5 extended upgrade over an installed CS5: DVD loads, and says "CS5 already installed". I notice that the icon on
the disk doesn't call itself "extended" -- it is as though the disk, though labelled correctly on the box, doesn't actually contain the extended version.
I've tried the "chat" method of help from Adobe -- which is frustrating in many ways -- and they at least claimed that the serial number was correct. If I
continue the installation, it will, in about a minute, put in a few things, including an older version of ACR, but Photoshop itself is unchanged, and certainly
not the extended version.
Anyone who has done this successfully, did the icon on the installer call itself "CS5 extended"?
The "chat" helper tried to establish an "adobe connect" session, without success. I'm very afraid to uninstall my CS5, on which I
depend! -- because then the upgrade installer may say " no product to upgrade!" Short of another solution, I guess I am
out my 384 dollars.

The chat, though it came up quickly enough, was frustrating in that

b. Every time I went to do something they suggested, the chat was
lost and I had to start all over again (that's why it was "they").
Finally, I realized that I could tell them the case # so they could
get up to speed. But they continued to ask the same questions over
again. We never got to any possible solution.
c. The real issue is that I didn't understand that "extended" was the
same program, so I don't think my problem made sense to them.
I did (with some trepidation) deactivate, and the reactivation worked
fine. If I had downloaded the upgrade from Adobe, I think the situation
would have been clear, but because I bought a boxed DVD, I assumed that
it was a "different" program, as it was when I upgraded my wife's CS4 to
CS5.
Anyway, I'm all set now, and thanks again for your assistance and
suggestions.
