CS5 Design Standard compatibility with CC photography plan
I work with CS5 applications, crucially Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver and Photoshop.
Two key workflows are, using Bridge to view and manage my files:
1) Illustrator created designs, finished in Photoshop.
2) Photography using ACR then Photoshop.
I am happy (enough) with what Illustrator an InDesign currently offer me, so have no need to change. However I am looking to install the Photographers CC version. It is crucial that my Illustrator work flow is not
affected in any way. I could finalise my Illustrator work in either CS5 Photoshop or CC Photoshop. I would plan to continue to use Bridge.
I understand I can stop a CC subscription and then I would absolutely need my Illustrator workflow on CS5 to be unaffected by not then having CC Photoshop.
Are there any gotchas I need to know about ? I can't afford to mess up my Illustrator workflow by installing CC Photoshop, but I would like to move to using the latest CC Photoshop for photography.

The programs have nothing to do with one another and don't interact in any way. PS CC will happily open legacy AI files. You may just hit a snag when trying to import CC generated PSDs into your CS5 programs. Even with maximum compatibility enabled some of them may expose oddities due to internal changes in the file format like layer styles not rendering correctly or layer masks being positioned off.

All versions of Adobe apps install into their own separate folder.
You can run CS5 and CS6 side by side. -
I purchased CS5 Design Standard about 5 years ago. Now I am trying to install second PC, but I got a message like " This serial number is not correct." I want to know the correct serial number, but I missed my ex adobe ID because I've changed my E-mail address.
It is not clear to me what your issue is with not being able to sign in to your Adobe account to find the serial number. You should still be able to sign in and find your serial number if you registered the software.
If your first PC is a Windows machine you might be able to extract the serial number from it using the Belarc Advisor

I recently encountered a problem with a HDD drive. So I had to replace it with a new one. Fortunately I managed to recover the data and applications on the original drive.
However when I transferred and installed the Adobe CS5 Design Standard suite on the new HDD it will not open any of the Adobe applications.
It prompts an error 213.10 each time. I can't see where to deactivate or reactivate.. please advise suggested course of action.
Also, will I be able to successfully access my previous files after the reinstallation/activation?

RReinstall properly. Activation cannot work because in the technical sense it simply isn't there. You screwed it. Run teh cleaner tool if necessary and contact support to reset activations.

Need to buy CS5 Design Standard, New Laptop-Help Please
My wife is a student taking a graphics class a and she must buy CS5 Design Standard (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Acrobat). Her computer just broke down and we need to replace it right away but we are on a tight budget. Can we get by with a budget type laptop with modest graphic support (maybe 500-600 dollars) or do we need a high powered, big dollar laptop to run the CS5 Software?

Need to buy CS5 Design Standard and laptop-Help Please
My wife is going to school and needs to buy CS5 Design Standard for a graphics class she is taking. Her old computer just broke and we need to buy a new one today or NLT tomorrow but we can't spend too much. Can a bargain laptop run this software suite ok (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Acrobat) or do we need to spend a lot on a laptop with big performance? A couple of computers in the $500 range we are looking at have Intel 2.13 ghz duo core, Core i3 processor , 4GB RAM with Intel Graphics Medial Accelerator with 128mb of Video RAM. Would that be enough?

That would work just fine. I run it with less than that on a laptop at home now and then.

CS5 Design Standard Installation Problem
I have a base build of XP Pro SP3 and i'm trying to install CS5 Design Standard. The PC is a HP xw6200 with dual Xeon 3.4Ghz CPUs and 2GB of RAM.

I can't find any other logs or errors on the PC. It does say to reboot the PC and try again. Which I have done but no luck

Most probably VC runtimes are failing to install on your machine (as per the following log messages) -

Try installing them individually. To install them you need to double click the respective msi files which can be found in the installer 'payloads' folder like -
payloads\Microsoft_VC90_ATL_x86\Microsoft_VC90_ATL_x86.msi
Once you have successfully installed the msi files run the installer again. -
When I enter the license key for a CS5 Design Standard Upgrade on a Mac with CS5 Design Standard installed and licensed, the installer says that there are no qualifying products installed to be upgraded.
The packing for the upgrade states that CS5 Design Standard is a qualifying product. How to I get the upgrade to install?It does seem rather like that. However, the box copy of CS5DS Upg that I am holding also states that "you must have one of the following: Adobe Creative Suite 5 - Design Standard" on the packaging.
If I am trying to upgrade CS5DS with CS5DS, it is partly because Adobe is suggesting that it makes sense to upgrade to an identical product. Hence my confusion when the install failed. -

I understand Adobe's license is for the Win or the Mac environment, but not both. I installed VMWare's Fusion and Windows 7 Pro on the Mac but that did not work. Is there anything I can do besides purchasing a new license?

I find this so discouraging. As a self-published author, I scraped together some money to purchase CS5 Design Standard about 2 years ago. My most recent manuscript has taken longer to develop, and then Microsoft abandoned Win XP for an inferior product (Win 8.1 which is why I went to an Apple). I need Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator at a minimum to independently publish my work.
With Cloud at $49.99/month, I would never regain that expense in my profits over several years. Even CS6 Design Standard at $1300 is out of my price range. Independently published authors rarely make a profit and I am in that category. My discouragement is that this may stop my work - because of a product that I already own! I am recently retired and find that one of the two things I was going to do in retirement may go away.

CS5 Design Standard - Numerous errors when launching products
Hello-
We have installed Adobe CS5 Design Standard on a Windows 7 Professional x64 system. It had Adobe CS3 installed but that never worked correctly and was uninstalled and the CS Cleanup Tool run. The new installation finishes without error but the products do not run correctly. This has been uninstalled and the CS Cleanup Tool run several times. The errors are as follows:
Adobe Media Encoder - "Adobe Media Encoder could not find Adobe Dynamic Link components. Some features may not work." The program does eventually open up.
For this we tried replacing the dvacore.dll as shown here http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/859/cpsid_85926.html but of course that deals with CS4
Adobe Photoshop CS 5 (64-bit) - "Adobe Application Manager is needed to start your trial." The product will not open up.These have been tried http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84344.html with no success.
Adobe Illustrator CS5 - "Missing required plugins. BRS Pencil Tool, ExpandS" after pressing OK a runtime error occurs pointing to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Ill...". Again pressing OK causes a Windows error to come up stating the obvious "Adobe Illustrator CS5 has stopped working"This is what we have tried http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331889.html , again this is not about CS5
All uninstalls have been with the "Deactivate" and "Remove Preferences" boxes checked.
Not finding anything else helpful.

Installing CS5 Design Standard on my powerbook
i would like to install CS5 Design Standard on my new Powerbook without a DVD reader and can't find the place where i can download the two files (design standard and acrobat professional)? I have the two serial numbers.

I still have a problem by entering my serial numbers. When I check the mail with the the serial numbers that I’ve received in 2011 from Adobe (for CS5 Design Standard en Adobe Professional) it is mentioned that the language is DUTCH.
Could that be the problem why I get a message “serial number incorrect” ? I think the software I downloaded is an English version.

What's the difference between free memory and inactive memory?
In activity monitor it mostly shows my having a lot of inactive memory and a lot less free memory even when I'm only running Safari for instance. What is this inactive memory and why is not available?
