CS5 discards untitled document without saving

Last evening as I was assisting a new CS5 user, twice the program closed a document we were working on and hadn't saved yet.  We were just opening another file.  We didn't receive any message to save the file.  It is gone!  Why would the software not give us an opportunity to save it?

I am familiar with the tabbed design and didn't think it matched.
We'll check again.  Thanks for the suggestion.

  • How can I close a document without saving changes?

    I'm using Pages 4.3 with OS10.9.1.
    Before I upgraded to OS10.9.1, when I closed a document (Command W) it asked me first if I want to save the changes I'd made to the document. I had the option of saving or not saving.
    Sometimes I want to close a document without saving the changes, for example if I edit a text, then decide I prefer the unedited version.
    But now that I'm using OS10.9.1, when I close a document, it automatically saves any changes I've made.
    How can I get back to the original option of saving or not saving changes when I close a document? This option was available with the same version of Pages, when used with an earlier OS.
    I've searched the Pages Users Guide, but can't find any answer, or default settings. Pages Preferences doesn't seem to address this.
    I'm not using track changes, so I don't think that's the problem.
    Any solutions would be greatly appreciated!

    [Viking: I am using v4.3. ... See my orginal post.]
    But I found the solution, for anyone else who is having the same problem....
    Open your computer's System Preferences > General, and click the box "Ask to keep changes when closing documents."
    Now, when you close a document in Pages, a window will open giving you the option of saving changes or not.
    (I don't know whether this works in Pagesv.5., buty it works with v.4.3)

    Hello,
    In this case, we need to get the object for that document inside the NavigateComplete2 event.
    And then we could call its
    close method before we navigate to the other document.
    For get the document object we could refer to the sample shared in

  • Closed document without saving

    I copied/pasted from web page into new document. I went to close it, and when dialog box appeared asking if I want to save document, I pressed "don't save." Don't ask me why. I understand I deleted it, but shouldn't it be in the trash? I went into Trash, the nothing is listed for the last four (4) days. So.......is there a way to retrieve unsaved document?
    and.....why isn't it in the trash. In fact, where are the items I purposely deleted over the past 4 days? This is giving me a headache. Help, please.

    When you put anything in a document it is in RAM until the document is saved to a disk. There is nothing to go in the Trash. Even if you had AutoSave enabled, it won't save anything until the document has been saved to disk.
    This is why it is important to save files often. If you're not sure you'll want to keep the changes, use Save As… & give the file a different name, perhaps just adding a number to the original name.

  • Creating a multipage document without saving each page

    Hi there,
    I am new to Adobe Acrobat (version 9 Pro) but not to PDF editors
    I work with design and a common task is, once I finish a design, send to my customers 20 or 30 different floorplans, 3D views, renderings, etc--> all these elements are included in one document (PDF).
    To generate the floorplans, rendering, etc. I use a 3D design program, and with the model in the screen, I examine the model and I create the different plans, views, etc--> for eachplan or view I can --> a) Save the image to jpg, bmp, etc or--> b) Print the image to
    With my old PDF creator, I am able to Print to --> the program opens--> each "Print to" plan or image goes to a temporary document --> when I am done (including texts, etc)  I convert the complete sequence to PDF
    In this way I don't need to create 20 or 30 files (jpgs or PDFs )--> I create just the final product
    Is there a way to do this with Adobe Acrobat V9?
    I checked all the options in "Combine" , however, for all of them, I need to generate first the 20 or 30 files (jpgs or PDFs  )-->  combine the files --> delete the 20 or 30 files
    The 3D program  I use doesn't render to clipboard, so this is not an option
    Any idea?
    Thank you in advance
    Pat

    Thank you for the answer
    I tried the Portfolio, but as I understand it, you can add only previously saved files. Therefore, I still have to create & save dozens of files
    In a perfect world (LOL, perfect for me )
    I'd like to create an empty portfolio --> Open my 3D program and print or create the images directly to the portfolio--> at the end, create the PDF document
    Regards
    Pat

  • Index document with Oracle Text from an ECM without saving the content

    Hi,
    I have documents in a ECM (Alfresco, UCM and more) and I would like Oracle Text to index the document without saving the content. I want to save space and not have redundant information. I would use Oracle Text to search for document's identification (ID) and fetch the document from the ECM using the ID.
    Is it possible ?
    Do I have to use Secure Enterprise Search ?
    Thanks
    Simon

    I want to save space and not have redundant information.The database space or the disk space (in OS)?
    If it the database space, it is not possible to index/serach without storing the file conetents.
    using , FILE_DATASTORE you can save the file in the disk (OS) and index them.
    When you remove the file, you need to re-index it.
    I donot see any other ways.
    Do I have to use Secure Enterprise Search ?SES also uses Oracle Text as its base. It also uses FILE_DATASTORE. But the re-indexing part is automated using crawlers.

  • Conversion from CS3 to CS4 - closing files without saving

    One more issue...
    I'm making temporary changes to a book and a document so I want to close the documents without saving. This is what I'm currently using.
                    myBook.close(SaveOptions.NO);
                    myDocument.close(SaveOptions.NO);
    What seems to be happening is that the file is saved anyway. No Save As window opens. I've looked in the Object Model and it looks like CS4 uses the same syntax as for CS3. Any suggestions?
    B

    It looks like you're trying to add an existing CS3 document to a new CS4 book. InDesign wants to save the CS3 document in CS4 and so gives you the Save As dialog. You can either go through all the existing CS3 documents you'll be adding and save them out from CS4, or add a few lines to the script that will do it. (Change the variable name I used if it's used somewhere else in your script.)
    // Creating book
    var myBookFileName = myPath+"Personalized Modules/PW.indd";
    myBookFile = new File( myBookFileName );
    myBook = app.open( myBookFile );
    myBook = app.books.add( myBookFile );
    // Add the front cover
    myFilename = myPath+"Personalized Modules/PW_Cover.indd";
    myFile = File(myFilename);
    // Save cover document in current version
    myDoc = app.open(myFile,false);
    myDoc.save(myFile)); // will overwrite CS3 file with CS4 file
    myDoc.close();
    myBook.bookContents.add(myFile);
    // Add the rest of the individual files
    I didn't test this code. Let me know if you have problems.

  • Can I retrieve a Page document I just closed without saving? (-:

    Can I retrieve a Page document I just closed without saving? (-:

    If the OP's information is correct (Snow Leopard), there is no autosave.
    Otherwise, the idea that you must save once before autosave kicks in seems to be one of those bits of misinformation that gets repeated so many times that everyone starts to believe it. I never used Lion or Yosemite, but certainly with Mountain Lion and Mavericks, autosave does save documents before they are saved to a real file. Since that is essential to the ability to restore open windows on relaunch, I am pretty sure it also applies to the systems that I haven't used.
    I think the system may not keep versions until a document is explicitly saved.
    Closing an unsaved document will discard the autosave information in any case, but, at least with the way I've had my preferences set, it does throw up a dialog asking you to confirm that you want to discard the data.

  • How do I save a document without it saving the text/object box outlines?

    Is it because I'm using the trial that I can't save a document without it showing the outline of every text/object box? I've not selected all, but that's what the saved document looks like...

    You want Pages, not workstations, and you might want to bookmark Lion and MacBook Pro fora.

  • Unbilled Revenue Reporting - without saving simulation billing documents

    Hi,
    I would like to know if anyone has ever run unbilled revenue reporting successfully from BI without saving the simulation billing documents that are generated from the Mass Simulation Run? Can the information be exported to BI without saving these documents? If yes, where is the total revenue calculated stored in SAP?
    In my past experience we had to save the generated billing documents to be able to load them in BI and run monthly report. This is affordable if the number of customers is low but is not a good practice in case of clients with very high customers.
    Transaction ESIMD can be used to delete these billing documents - how has your experience been with this report? What are the factors to be considered when using this report?
    Thanks,
    Shweta

    Gurus -
    I am still struggling with this.
    I am debugging the program REA_SIMINDICES_BILL.
    I see the biiling doc internal tables getting populated, but the internal tables for sending data to BW (and COPA, etc.) are empty.
    The simulation type clearly has transfer to BW set, and the datasource is the 0UC_SALES_SIMU_01 datasource defined in the subdialog.
    Is there a SAP NOTE that I am missing - we are on ECC 6.0 (IS-U).
    Is there ANY functional/technical reason why BW delta Q is not getting populated despite Simulation Docs being generated.
    Thanks!!!!

  • Saving a modified word document without user intervention

    Dear Reader,
    I have successfully opened a template (MS Word document), and
    modified the bookmarks using DDE; however, now in attempting to
    save the document without the user having to respond I am having
    problems. I have attempted to use DDE.EXECUTE(ConvId,'[Save
    ()]',1000); but this drops into the VB debugger and nothing is
    saved. If I remove the "[]" then an error occurs. If I attempt
    to place something with the brackets () an error occurs within
    the VB Debugger.
    Looking for a simple coding example using DDE.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tina,
    I would first suggest installing all available updates to his/her system and Office installation, including updating the video card driver to the latest version. Then try again.
    Also try to do a Windows clean boot to determine if the issue was caused by any applications/services conflicts:

    I received an email containing a spreadsheet created using Mac Office 2004 on my new MacBook Air equipped with Mac Office 2011.  When I saved the document, my Finder lists the document without the .xls file extension. Why?
    All other .xls documents created by Mac Office 2004 retained the .xls file extention when I migrated them over to the new MacBook Air.

    I know what happened.  When I saved the document I somehow hit the Hide File Extension box.  Sorry to trouble this group. I simply resaved it w/o activating the Hide File Extension feature.

  • Acrobat 8 Pro - Scan and email without saving document

    Our office recently upgraded from Acrobat 6 to 8. We frequently scan and email documents to our customers around the world, but there is no need to save these documents on our computers.
    In Acrobat 6 we followed these steps and were very happy....
    1.Click CREATE PDF
    2.Select FROM SCANNER (Acrobat scanning pop up menu then comes up)
    3.Click SCAN
    4.The HP scanner menu would pop up and we could make additional adjustments (quality, paper size, etc.) before clicking the scan button on the HP menu to start scanning.
    5. The newly scanned documents are then shown in Acrobat and can be emailed. From this point you can also choose to save the documents to your computer, but most of the time in our particular office the documents are just for one time use and do not need to be saved.
    With Acrobat 8 we are having a problem in step 3 from above. Once "scan" is clicked, we are prompted to name and save the documents we are about to scan in a desired location on our computers. Is there anyway to scan and email without saving the document in Acrobat 8? It would be a real time saver if we did not have to keep deleting these unnecessary files once they have been emailed. Your help is greatly appreciated!

    To email a PDF, it would be an attachment and would have to be saved as a result. Email packages can not e-mail non-existent data.

  • Can a change be made to the original Word document without losing form fields in a saved PDF form?

    I have a new fillable form created with Acrobat 9 that has 10 pages of fields on it. I noticed a typo in the original Word doc I created the form from and wondered if there is anyway to make changes in the source document without having to recreate all fields again.
    Thanks!
    Frank

    Yes, just create a new PDF and replace the pages of the old one that has the form fields with the pages from the new: Document > Replace Pages
    Any fields, code, bookmarks, links, etc. will be retained.
