CS5 Encore first play broken

I have a Encore project that has a timeline (quicktime video) set up as first play. It previews properly, but when I burn the disk, the produced DVD starts at the menu after the timeline when I play the disk through WMP or VLC. I don't have immediate access to a hardware DVD player to test this with, and since my target audience will likely be playing the produced DVD's from WMP or VLC it would be agreeable if the DVD's worked as advertised. Version 5.0.0.508
Three coasters and counting.

You have the end action of the main menu set to itself. Some users had problems similar to yours with this configuration, that ppeared to be resolved when the end action was changed to "stop."
Why all the overrides?
I thought there was a point to the introductory timeline, but its end action is to go to the man menu either way.
I would first change the menu end action, and see what I have. Then I'd remove all the overrides and see.

  • Encore First Play Error

Hi all-  I have been searching on this site about a First Play issue I am
having.  I have 2 timelines (INTRO 1 and MAIN) and several menus in my project.  I have INTRO 1 set to "first play" and linked the end action to the first menu, which then goes to the main timeline, or more menus.....  the whole works plays perfect when I preview.  The first play, menu, everything.....it works great.....
However, when I build the project, I get an error that states "internal software error at 29:21 in INTRO 1"  .  INTRO 1 timeline consists of a 29:21 second MPEG2-DVD file that I rendered out of After Effects.  I have tried deleting this timeline and replacing it (and re-linking it) as well deleting the MPEG asset from the project and re-inserting it.  Still same error.  Maybe I need to install the latest patch for Encore?  Or am I missing something?  I haven't tried to override anything.....maybe i should insert the sequence directly into the timeline rather than the rendered MPEG file???
If I can't get this to work, I plan on making 2 Main Menus.  One will be set to first play and have the INTRO sequence and the rest of the Main menu on the front end, and then I'll just set a loop point where I want the menu to repeat.  after going into the rest of the menus, I'll link all their back buttons to the second "main" menu (the one without intro on the front).  that way, after the first time the DVD is loaded, and the user starts to navigate the menus, the user won't have to sit through the INTRO again if they want to go back to the main menu.  It makes sense in my head, but does anyone see any problems?
I hope i have been clear on all this!!!
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Thanks Guys--
Yes, there is something about PCG error.....butafter some research and tests,  it seems to be a format uncompatability thing.....(I'm running CS4 by the way)
I did play around with it a bunch last night.  It seems that the problem lies with the .m2v file that is rendered out of After Effects.  It's not playing nice with Encore.  I tried removing all the sound out of the menus....then the difference in length should not matter.  I still got the same error.  So i deleted the assets alltogether...then i tried rendering my files out as MPEG 2's instead of MPEG2 DVD's.   This time I got an error that there was an aspect ratio mismatch.    So then i removed both video and sound from the menus---- And the project worked great!!!  Ok, so now I went back and tried to render the movie parts as AVI files.  I rendered one of the menus as an AVI and brought it in as an asset- linked it to the video, and linked the sound to the old sound .wav file, and wouldn't you know ---the project worked---(well, that menu worked perfect, the others were still blank of course, but the buttons were still there)....  .  So I made all the menu parts into .avi, and linked them, but when i checked the project, it gave me an error that the disk is not big enough.....Of course my .avi's were all uncompressed (about 5 gigs).....Do i need to figure out how to render a smaller .avi?  I haven't been able to get AE to do that yet.  Uncompressed seems to be my only option.  Isn't there a way to pick what size file to make??  I'll have to look into that as I have not been able to figure out how to change the quality of .avi's.....
Maybe there is another file format that would work better?  high quality .wmv???

  • Encore CS3: First Play timeline freezes after burn only

Ok, so in Encore CS3 I have this timeline,it is set as first play and at the end it goes to a menu.
The video plays fine until near the end where it freezes on a frame for a few seconds and then continues fine. There are no other problems on the dvd. It occurs both on a physical disc and a disk image so it's not a player problem but it does not appear in Encore's previews.
I have tried re encoding the source file, deleting the timeline, re importing the footage.
    Any suggestions?

    Johnathan,
Tell us more about your Assets on this Play First Timeline. What are the files, format, Duration, etc.? Is this file muxed, or elemental streams? The greater the detail, the better.
I have not seen the behavior that you observe, hence my questions.

  • Encore CS3 First Play and End Action problems

I have one menu, one timeline. I'm trying to have the DVD start with the menu for about 2 minutes, the length of the audio asset linked to, then start the first chapter of the timeline. No overrides used in the project.
First Play of the disc: set to the default menu.
End action of the menu: set to first chapter of timeline.
Menu-motion: Audio linked to an audio asset, duration about 2 minutes.
In Encore DVD 2.0 this was trivial and worked. Not in CS3!
Most of the time it loops the menu indefinitely. Sometimes it will loop twice, then start the chapter.
Preview from the menu works. Preview from the disc doesn't, nor the final DVD burn. I've seen this was discussed here before, I just can't find the topic.
    Any fixes?
    Thanks

  • Encore CS6 First Play problem

Long-time Adobe user with CS6 Master Collection. Not come across this one before, though.
Simple Encore project using 3 PPro sequences via Dynamic Link.
Set up so a 20 sec video plays automatically then drops into a static menu offering choice of two timelines.
All tests OK, previews in Encore OK, and builds OK.
HOWEVER, the resulting DVD skips the intro video and starts with the menu, despite the intro video being set as First Play and testing OK inside Encore.
I've built the project from scratch twice now with the same result.
Any hints as to cause and cure?

OK. I eventually tracked it down.
Before adding the intro element, I started with the menu. When I added the intro movie, all looked good on the flowchart and it played OK in Encore, but, as I explained initially, when burned to DVD playback started with the old menu, not the new first play.
I tried deleting Encores preferences (start with SHIFT+CONTROL) to no effect.
I tried adding STOP at the end of menus, to no effect.
I also tried a variety of other first play items, but the DVD always started with the non-first-play menu.
Eventually I looked at the project properties and found that the title button and main timeline were still pointing at the original first-play menu item, not the one currently selected. Changing the main timeline had no effect, but changing the Title Button to the new first-play timeline finally solved my problem.
It seems possible that there is an issue with updating all relevant items in Encore CS6 (Windows, fully updated) when changing first play. Or am I missing something that makes it my fault here?

  • DVD Remote "skip" Function Doesn't Work for Blu-ray Projects (CS5 Encore)

I have graduated from SD to HD and I need help.
I just finished my first HD project in CS5, burned it to a Blu-ray disk and immediately encountered a problem: the skip forward and the skip backward remote functions don’t work. (I have encountered several other problems on the way to get here but I solved those with the help of the manual and by browsing this forum ). In this project, I am doing exactly what I have done in my previous SD projects (where this function works):
In CS5 Encore, I added “Chapter Points at Intervals…”.
On the timeline Properties Panel, I kept the default selection “Operations: All Permitted” (that includes “Search for Chapter” in the “Permitted User Operations” menu).
In the “Project Preview” window, clicking on the “Next Chapter” or “Previous Chapter”, the function is executed correctly.
Still, after burning the blu-ray disk and pressing the “skip forward” or “skip backward” buttons on the Blu-ray player (Panasonic DMP-BD65) remote, the “Operation is not permitted” message appears. (This very remote button function works on all my SD projects.)
More background info: I am also using Encore Chapter Markers from the PrPro project linked with Adobe Dynamic Link, chapter marker End Actions (Jeff’s The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, pp. 178-180), and Bill’s advice on using the “dip to black” transition to avoid the ~1 second gap between chapters in the Chapter Playlist that I use to play all chapters.  The following observation may be unrelated: in Encore’s Monitor Panel, the “Step Forward” button with pressing the Alt key does not move the CTI to the next GOP mark. The “Step Forward” or “Step Backward” functions (without pressing the Alt key) work (moving the CTI one frame)..
At this point, I desperately need the Forum’s help.
    Thanks,
         - Laci.

Up to now I worked only with standard definition projects and outputted them
to DVDs. This is my HD project. My problem is that I am a bit confused with
the proper (and simple) settings for a blu-ray project. Your
questions/comments imply that I am making a "DVD project" - but then, how
can I burn it to a BD?
Here is what I am doing, and please, let me know if/where I am making my
    mistake:
    1.       On the camcorder the recording format is set to "AVCHD 1080/60i
    HA".
    2.       In the CS5 PrPro new project:
    a.       General > Capture Format: HDV
    b.      New Sequence > Sequence Preset > AVCHD > "AVCHD 1080i30 (60i)".
    3.       In Encore: File >  Project Settings > Basic:
    a.       Authoring Mode: "Blu-ray"
    b.      Transcode Settings: "Codec: MPEG-2; Dimensions: 1920 x 1080; Frame
Rate: 29.97, Fields: Upper Field First, Audio Transcoding Scheme: Dolby
Digital, Maximum Audio/Video Bitrate: 15.0 Mbps"
    c.       In the "Default Transcode Settings" window, the Blu-ray tab is
highlighted. (There, I could change the codec from MPEG-2 to H.264 -
according to some articles it would give slightly better quality in certain
    circumstances - I don't know.)
    d.      On the Encore Project Panel, right clicking on the sequences, and
choosing "Transcode Settings" from the menu, I get a window that says "DVD
Transcoding" and "Blu-ray Transcoding". In the Blu-ray Transcoding section,
I choose Codec: MPEG-2, Dimension 1920x1080, Frame Rate: 29.97, Quality
    Preset: Automatic Using Project Settings.
    e.       Going into the "Edit Quality Presets", I change the "Export
Settings Preset" to "1920x1080i 29.97 Maximum Quality" (from the 1280x720)
    4.       Now, in the Project Panel, under the Blu-ray Transcode Settings I
    see: "1920x1080i 29.97 Maximum Quality MPEG-2".
Are these the correct settings for a high quality Blu-ray project? I am
re-transcoding the project with these settings to see if I still get the bad
    transitions.
    Thanks for your advice,
    Laci.

  • First play runs twice

I am trying to make a DVD that plays titles then loops back to the beginning. I have my first video set as first play when the disk is inserted. The first play will run twice, then go into the loop on the second play. From there on out it behaves as instructed. Stopping the DVD and restarting it also behaves normally. I only see the repetition of the first play when I insert the disk.
I've gotten this same behavior on a PS3 and a Sony DVD player; two different disks on two different days. The Encore preview doesn't do this, my flowchart looks like it should.

I don't have any set, tho I just found one in the disk icon in the flowchart that was set to the first video as an override. I'm making another disk with that link broken.

  • First Play Menu doesn't work properly on DVD Recorders

I am an experienced PC Encore user. Just finished authoring a DVD with Encore CS3. Test results on Toshiba and Liteon DVD recorders yield a failed first play response (no menu appears). Test results on Sony set top players and computer DVD players, first play responds correctly (menu appears instantly).
I have created and tested DVDs on the same DVD recorders with earlier versions of encore and never had failed first play results.
Further, if I press the DVD Menu on the remote, the menu appears.
I discovered a work-around. I duplicated the DVD in a duplicator, tested the duplicate in the recorders and it worked properly. It must have stripped the header information from the master.
This is a problem with Encore CS3 and needs to be addressed. Many people use their DVD recorder as players, which is one of the reasons we use recorders to test.
    Response . . .

AS opposed to lyonseye I am a plain novice on Encore - always dependent on templates. Now , I've just recently finished my first proper encore-project. Simple enough - one single menu linking to three timelines and wow my own pictures as static background! Checked and built (+R single layer) without any hickups in the error-report-department.
The disk plays perfect in various set top dvd's
but not on my own recorder(s)!!! ( 3 different machines tested with various players).
I won't go into machinery details (harm :-)) but would be happy if someone could explain to me if this is a common problem or eventually could point to the most usual reason for this unexpected behaviour.
Another question: the manual states that it is possible to apply motion background to the entire menu. I've tried this , linking video to buttons are easy enough as is linking sound to the menu. But pickwhipping ( did I spell that correct ,wonder) video to the background is a different animal.Short takes of approx 1 min duration was ment looping until buttons beeing pressed. Not working for me , maybe others could tell me the secret?
    Again :

  • Can I upgrade my CS5 Encore to CS6 Encore?

Hello. My CS5 Encore has let me down. It keeps on forcing a Close Down after trying lots of options. When I get my movie into Encore timeline either via Dynamic Link or Media Encoder, the Monitor Panel is blank. If I then click the Play button, the whole program freezes and forces a Close Down. I am on Windows 7. I have tried both Bluray and MPEG2 formats in PAL.
I have the full CS5 Premiere Pro Suite and want to know if I can upgrade just the Encore part of the suite to CS6 and if so, how? I do not wish to subscribe to monthly CC payments so would really appreciate your feedback.
    Thank you. Janice

Hello Ann John and Richard and anyone else who may be interested in helping with my problem. I have re-installed and upgraded my Adobe programs. Some had errors so I quit and tried again 12hrs later. Same message, however, the errors only related to After Effects, Bridge, Extension Manager, Illustrator, Pixel Bender Toolkit, Flash Professional, Photoshop and Photoshop Camera Raw. Would there be any connection to my problem if these programs have not upgraded fully?
I have created a short video with audio and tried all of the export options through Dynamic Link and Media Encoder. I have Imported the movie into Encore also. Each time I can get the 1 minute movie into the Encore program. I can get the movie into the Timeline if I go File Export Timeline or if I go through Dynamic Link. I can't get it into the Timeline if I Export as an Asset, create a Timeline and try dragging the Video and Audio files down into the Timeline. On all of these options I am not able to see any of my movie in the Monitor Panel which is open-and that seems to be the issue. As soon as I attempt to get anything displayed in the Monitor Panel, Encore freezes and is forced to close down.
Hoping someone can help solve this problem as it is very very frustrating.
    Cheers.
    Janice

  • Subtitle problems CS5 encore 5

    Hi
Does someone have an explanation for me on a subtitle issue I seem to have wtih CS5/ Encore 5 inbuilding a DVD.
I have a single timeline, 4 chapters, each in a different chapter playlist. 16:9 format, 2 audio tracks, 2 subtitles tracks.
When the DVD is made the preset combinations of audio and subtitle play correctly EXCEPT the subtitle 2 that is NOT displayed . On the DVD remote of 4 different players it show that Subtitle track 2 is selected but it is not visible on the screen. If I preview it in Encore it works fine but once built it falls apart...
any suggestions on hwat I might be doing wrong?

  • Motion menu first play not working

No matter what I do the first play motion menu either stops at the end or goes on to play a timeline on two different hardware players and in VLC (last two versions). The only player where it properly loops is PowerDVD 9 (which has its own problems with linked timelines). This is not a hardware problem. This is an Encore problem probably being caused by an inefficient layout of files on the disk.  There is a possibility (slight) that this is being caused by removing assets and "saving as" to create two DVD5's from a DVD9. Despite the deletion of assets the "saved as" project files are about the same size as the DVD9 project. I wish Encore ws like Pr in that it could rationalize a project by importing it into a new project. Then again with all the problems people report with motion menus it may not have anything to do with the work flow.
Don't see any easy work around here except building the two projects up from scratch unless someone has a idea of what to try.
I wish this software would work better. It really is the worst of the Production Suite (and I use Pr as my everyday editor)

Sometimes the end action will get locked into an asset if you build the project. Changing the end action of the menu after you have gone through the build process may not work. You might have to delete the menu from the project, re-import it, relink the assets and buttons, and it should work.
You are correct, Encore is not as polished of a program as Photoshop, but at least there are usually workarounds so you can successfully build a disc that works as it should.

  • First Play PGC

Is it possible to delete or disable the first play PGC with Encore?
    Thanks.

Sure, just select the object that has First Play, right-click on it and choose Clear First Play.

  • CS5 - Encore - MediaOffline

    Hey,
i have set up an entire DVD using Premiere CS5 + Encore via DinamicLink -> all in the same Folder including Pics and Videos. -> Saved on an External HD.
Now: Because my Laptop is not as good as my PC, I wanted to creat the dvd on my PC. DVD 2 had no problem in Encore. DVD 1 was saying Media Offline in Encore -> i opened Premiere but all is fine and all videos play normally. Also Encore finds the Premiere File using Bridge or show Asset in Browser.
    So whats the problem here?
I have read several discussions but mostly it was about CS5 working with CS4 or CS6 etc
PS: excuse my english since i am german ive tried my best though!

Well 2 days later and after trying like 1000 suggestions and after just writing this discussion it finally works somehow...
-> i hooked up the external HD with my Encore & Premiere file
-> started Encore -> "Media Offline"
-> restarted PC -> still having external connected
-> started Premiere and played some files in Premiere to make sure they work and are linked to pics and videos
-> then started Encore and finally no message "Media Offline" -> all via Dinamic link
    well, that worked for me

  • First Play "Not Permitted" on Apple DVD player

I have some duplicated DVD-Rs of a project, and the client ha reported a disutrbing error. I've been told that on several different Macs running OS 10.2 - 10.4, not only does the disc not auto launch DVD player and not auto-play the first play menu, but when the user presses play on the floating control, they get a "Not Permitted" message. The user reported that they were able to choose "open Video_TS" and navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder on the disc, at which point they were able to get the disc to play.
The disc include a significant amount of content on the ROM sector of the disc, including an autorun and an .exe file for windows users. However, I can't see how the presence of these ROM files could interfere with the operation of DVD Player and the VIDEO_TS folder on the disc.
Furthermore, the duplication master for this disc has been formatted directly from DVD studio as a standrd DVD volume - no Toast burn, hybrid volume formatting, anything like that.
Upon inspection I discovered that my authoring assistant had specified a pre-script on the first play menu. I try never to use pre-scripts for anything, as I have found the way DVD studio handles them to be unreliable. However, I suspect this pre-script on the first play menu as the culprit in this problematic behavior, and have removed it.
The problem consists in that I did not experience this problem with any of the DVD-R checkdiscs I burned from DVD studio, unti the discs were duplicated. We'll be doing a full-scale replication run as the next step. Since I am not able to reproduce this problem on discs I burn here, I'd like find a way to know I have fixed the problem.
My question is, has anyone else ever encountered issues with their first-play menu throwing up this "not permitted" condition in Apple DVD Player? Has anyone ever found a connection between this issue and pre-scripts, or between this issue and any ROM files?
I suspect that DVD studio's pre-scripts are "simulated" or translated through the abstratction layer of DVD studio in a way that allows them to be outside the DVD spec, or perhaps there are other ways DVD studio might be using the pre-command on a menu, such as when you specify a button selection for a menu, that use the menu pre-command, and override the pre-script you might have spcified for the menu.

I've seen it on replicated masters when a dvd-r master was used and not all regions were selected as ok to play. DSP doesn't 'check' region 7 by default... its best to use a region all project and .img files, not VIDEO_TS builds to the HD.
How were the discs duplicated though? That is probably the cause of the problem, not the pre-Script. Maybe a 'Data' disc was burnt and not a DVD-Video type option...

  • Menu problem, going to submenu in stead of first play

I've authored a DVD that has a main menu with five buttons for five submenus. Each submenu then has five buttons for the movies plus another button to return to the main menu. Everything works in the simulator, disc starts on first play main menu everything is selectable. Problem is on the burned DVD choosing main menu goes to one of the submenus although choosing main menu button does send you to the main menu. What'sd going on. I've used the same procedure to build a disc several times and no problem

A couple of questions: how long is the first play
video? Is the audio the same length? Does the first
menu have any video or audio? Also, it doesn't happen
in Simulator, but does it happen if you play the
VIDEO_TS folder on your hard disk with DVD Player?
Just trying to determine if your set-top box is the
cause, or whether maybe the audio is repeating
because it's not the same length as the video.
That was it. Audio was longer than video. Thanks!
