CS5 Error message - file-format module cannot parse the file - files made in CS5

I am a professional photographer who has used Photoshop since version 3 - I've not come across this problem - these are a set off wedding photos I've just taken and edited, retouched etc - help please ASAP

These are .tiff files made directly from my RAW image files via ACR then opened and worked on in CS5 before being saved as tiffs - some have previously been opened to watermark them for my FB page but now won't -  there are 18 out of 183 images so far that won't open in CS5, Illustrator, or Perfect Photosuite 8 whilst NX2 crashes immediately I try to use it to open them.  There is nothing different about the way these files have been produced and as I have several thousand more to work on yet [2 weddings] I should like to find out what is going wrong. The only recourse I can see is to go back to my Neffs and start again - needless to say this is worrying - it takes long enough to get the images perfect without having to keep repeating the work.

Tried to "Open As" in PS a NEF file I modified in LR.  Got the following error message:  "Could not complete your request because the file format module cannot parse the file."  I can "Open" the file in PS, but then the changes I made in LR (and saved in the associated meta data file with the "Control S" command) are not applied to the opened PS file.  HELP!

If you are working with a file you modified in Lightroom, you should go to the Lightroom Photo menu and choose Edit in... and the version of Photoshop you want to open it in.
There a dialog will ask if you want to transfer the LR settings you made to your photo when you open in Photoshop.

  • CS4 - Getting error when opening a .gif file - file-format module cannot parse the file.

I am getting this popup error when trying to open a .gif file:
"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
This comes up every time I try to open a .gif file.  Even if I make a .gif file (like the image included in this post), save it and then try to open it again, I get the same error.  I tried reinstalling CS4, but the error is still there.  I have also done the reset on start-up and nothing.  Some have suggested that I open it in (Windows XP Pro) MS Paint and then save it again.  Did it and this does NOT work for me, either.
I know it's a Photoshop problem because I can see this file everywhere, except Photoshop.  It will open here, there and everywhere, except for Photoshop.
I've searched the Adobe Commmunity and it looks like no one has come up with a fix for this.  I'm just currious after 5 years with this problem, has there been a solution?

  • File-format module cannot parse the file

What does the error message: "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file." mean? I made the png image in PS. Now it can't parse it, but I don't know what that means or how to correct it.

    Dear Curious,
I volunteer my time too. I help others learn about Adobe software. I am not "trained" in this, but learn as I go. I have never had the warning I wrote about and that is why I posted. I thought as much, but posted anyway to be sure that I wasn't missing some clue. I deal with a large number of applications and all levels of members. It may be easy to be glib, but the hours I spend helping others is as valid as yours. I may not have points, but that is because I don't 'know' all I feel I should to answer. We each contribute as we can. I do wish I had more training, and I work on line with the Lynda.com series. Thank you for your help. I hope your curiosity is satisfied. :-)

  • HiRISE JP2 Images fail to open in CS6 (64bit) - Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file.

Unable to open any of the HiRISE images within PS CS6.  Receive the following error:  "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
The files are NOT corrupt as I can open them in IrfanView and ACDSee, just not Photoshop CS6.
Image Site:  HiRISE | Search for Beagle 2 (ESP_037145_1915)
    Greyscale:  http://hirise-pds.lpl.arizona.edu/download/PDS/EXTRAS/RDR/ESP/ORB_037100_037199/ESP_037145 _1915/ESP_037145_1915_RED.QLOO…   (543MB)
    System:
         Core i7-4770K
         12GB RAM
         GTX970 4GB RAM

I downloaded a small HiRise JP2 and used Preview to export as Tiff.  It opens up just fine.
Apparently the JP2 takes up an awful lot of memory uncompressing, and Photoshop gives up.
HiRISE | Sedimentary Fans North of Mojave Crater (ESP_038851_1900)
(Deleted that second .jp2 file. It slowed my Windows 7 system to a crawl).
I also got the same error on the file in Message one, so saving it as a tiff would work.

  • "...file-format module cannot parse the file" Error

I am using PS CS3 Extended on a PC
I keep getting the error...file-format module cannot not parse the file" errors when attempting to open PNG or GIF files that were created using the same version of Photoshop.
I used to have to reboot the machine to get rid of this error - but that is no longer working.
The error is occuring more and more frequently.
I really need to edit these files.
Please tell me how to fix this.
I have seen this error in the forum - but was unable to find a real solution. Rebooting the machine is not really a solution.
    Thanks
    JD

Thanks for trying Chris but the files are not corrupted. They open sometimes in CS4, and always do in CS3 and Elements 6, as well as on another computer. I'm talking about all my PNG files. They work most of the time, just not all of the time. If I close down PS CS4 and open it again they open just fine for a while before the problem starts again.
I reset all preferences to factory defaults and uninstalled/ re-installed again this morning so now I'll see what happens.
    Cheers
    Maggie

  • "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."

I have recently upgraded to PS CS5, operating on an imac with Mac OSX Lion.
Every now and then I get the message above when trying to open certain Raw (CR2)  files in photoshop Raw converter.
If I try to only open the one specific raw file I get the above message, although if I open multiple raw files in one go, they all open fine, although when I scroll down to the image that can't be parsed I either get this mesage "Unable to swith to the current image. There was an error parsing the file" or photoshop freezes totally.
As far as I can see the images aren't corrupted becasue I'm able to view them with Bridge. I have never encounter this problem with my equipment before upgrading.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Cheers in advance.

If an image has issues each time you try to open it in Camera RAW, then post a link so others can verify if it is indeed corrupted.
If you need to upload to www.YouSendIt.com or www.DropBox.com and then post the download link.

  • "Could not complete because the file-format module cannot parse the file." How i solve this?

    The file is in .png

And what exactly? What PNG? From where? What system? What version of PS? You need to be much more specific.

  • Cannot place smart object because the parser module cannot parse the file

Some of my images are saved in Ai for use in my Adobe Ps, but a few of them now give me an error when I try to replace
a smart object with a saved image from Ai.  I get an error message instead that says "cannot place smart object because the
parser module cannot parse the file", I have no idea what this means or why it only happens to some images and not all.
I save everything in the same format and load it into the smart object the same way but some do not work.  If anyone
knows the solution please help me!!
    Thank you in advance!

As it says: the AI file is not readable.

  • "Parser module cannot parse the file" - opening .ai files in PS CS3

    Hi,
I understand Photoshop CS3 can open Illustrator .ai files.
When inside Photoshop, file/open, select .ai file, I get the following message:
"Could not complete your request because the parser module cannot parse the file"
This presents a huge problem because I have original artwork I need to send to the printers, but cannot get into it! It was created by another company on our behalf.
I have downloaded and installed the Camera RAW 4.5 update and it hasn't helped, the error still occurs.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?
    Many thanks!
    Sally

If the Illustrator file is correctly saved you can "Place" it in Photoshop. It will appear as a Smart Object.

It sounds like your iPhoto Advanced preferences are set to not copy photos during import, i.e. a Referenced library:
Check your Advanced preferences to see if that's the case. If it is the best solution would be to select the checkbox to copy the photos and reimport the photos from the flash drive.  Then check the new import. It it was OK you can delete the previous event with the "missing" photos.

Trying to view/print PDF documents from website. Print looks like gibberish and is unreadable. Problem is with the embedded fonts. Error message from Adobe says cannot extract the embedded font 'LICCMC+MyriadPro-Light'. some characters may not display or print correctly.

Try Adobe support, that's not a Firefox support issue. <br />

  • Photostop CS4 Error- "file-format module cannot parse file"

Photoshop was running fine for me yesterday. I cleaned my computer this morning with CCleaner and now it won't work. Help?

Good luck with the Registry restore. Of all the Registry cleaners, CCleaner seems to be one of the best, and one that does not do damage, when used. Still, with any Registry cleaner, there is always a bit of a risk, even with ones like CCleaner. I always do the backup, even for the most minor cleanings. I have to say that over the years, it has never messed up any of my Adobe programs.
Again, if things still do not work correctly, there is the Repair Installation, that is relatively quick, and has worked perfectly for me. If it gets down to that, someone here will be glad to step you through the process. It's not hard, but takes a few moment as the installer takes time to basically survey your system and the Adobe installations (for that program, or for a suite) twice. The fist is to catalog your installations, and when you choose, say PS (if you have a suite), it'll then survey that particular installation. If it finds anything missing, or corrupted, it'll fix that. I had to do the complete CS2 Production Studio once, and it was about 30 mins. total for all apps. that got "smurfed" by the installation of Premiere Elements. Obviously, Adobe did not think that anyone might have the full Production Studio, and later add PrE 4. At least they had a KB Article on what needed to be done - Repair Installation.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What does "Could not complete your request because the parser module cannot parse the file." mean?

All I am trying to do is crop a layered PSD. This error code keeps popping up and the app will not crop. What the hell?
    (PS CC 2014 v 15.2.2, 15" MBP retina, running OS X 10.10.1)

I did just get around the problem by shrinking the canvas to the right size. That worked.
By the way, since the last Adobe updates, my PS & AI both have been popping "Parser Module" errors up every time I try to either open an EPS file in PS or save an EPS file out of AI.  Part of the same issue?
    Thanks for your help,
