CS5 exporting TIF from EPS appends artboard name to the file name

We have recently upgraded to CS5 from CS3. We routinely create EPS files, then export them to TIF's for final use. Previously I used the CROP MARKS tool to set the specific visual size of the art. Without the crop marks, when exporting to a TIF the exported file clips to the edges of the bounding box. In the event I have vertical lines at the outside limits of the drawings they stand the possibilitiy of getting "clipped" or dropped off when the resulting TIF is printed or placed in another document.  I understand the ARTBOARDS have replaced the crop marks setting.  If I create an art board, rename it as MYTAK4 ARTBOARD and then export from the EPS to a TIF, having the radio button "artboard" checked, the resultant TIF file becomes FILENAME_MYTAK4_ARTBOARD.tif.  With the hundreds of files that we create and continually revise, it is important that the any files we revise, maintain the same file name, not another file with same base name, with an appended artboard name tacked on before the TIF extension.  The only solution I have arrived at is to RENAME the file once the TIF is exported to remove the unwanted artboard portion of the name. Anyone have a better solution?

Hi,
We just released this tool: FERRY (http://ferry.thedamarmada.com). It does exactly what you want and a little bit more.
I think it's worth it a try.
It comes with a free demo that will export 5 layers.
Take a look and let us know if it's what you need.
It could be easily tweaked.

  • Error: Could not save "file name" because the file name was not valid. (PS CS6 + WIN 7)

    I have recently purchased a new desktop under WIN 7 as well as Adobe Creative Suite CS6.
    My first internal hard disk is 2 TB, the second one installed is from my old PC, 250 GB.
    I am getting this error when trying to save a file over an existing file using the “Save” command.
    The message is wrong, because the file name IS valid.
    This error is persistent.
    This error does not occur when doing the same action on my second internal hard disk.
    This error happens on files larger than about 1MB in weight.
    What happens is that the original file over which I try to do the ”Save” command gets corrupted and lost.
    If I don't use the “Save as” command to save my work under a different name, my work is lost.
    The same problem occurs with both PS CS6 versions, 64 Bit and 32 Bit.
    I am very disappointed and annoyed with this happening.
    Any idea what is going on here?

    ok ...
    I think I have resolved this.
    I forgot to mention that I have Sugarsync over that file structure.
    However, I do not know if Sugarsync has anything to do with the error.
    I copied the whole folder structure under a newly created folder, and I am no longer getting the error.
    Thanks

  • Changing the setting name in the file name

    How do I change en masse the file name in a compressor batch?. Say, instead of having the default codec name, IE "Apple Pro Res," I could choose something unique for myself.
    Or how do I just get rid of it the setting tag without using a custom destination?

    Click on your preset to load it into the Inspector in Compressor
    Click on the "actions" icon underneath the Names & Descriptions fields.
    Go down to Default Destinations and set it to " Source w:o additional names"
    Save the preset.
    Now every time you apply the preset you'll get the file placed back into the source folder without the additional info in the file name.
    One caveat - make sure that your new file name does not exactly match (including the suffix) the original file. If it does, you'll overwrite the original.
    x"
    However I did not find this "w:o additional names" option.
    I am running Compressor V 3.5.3 - is that the reason?
    Cheers,
    Edwin

    Could be a version thing.
    In 3.5.3 it works like this:
    You first need to create a new Destination:
    In compressor select the Destination Tab (1), then press the PLUS sign (2).
    Select Local (if it's going to be on your computer) or Remote (if it's on a network)
    Compressor will ask you which folder. In this example I created a new folder, called 'testingfolder' (3).
    In the Inspector then you can choose the naming options. Which is now right by default (4). So you don't have to alter that.
    Now do all steps as Studio X described, but a slightly different:
    "You can permanently solve the issue by making a simple change in the Preset.
    Click on your preset to load it into the Inspector in Compressor
    Click on the "actions" icon underneath the Names & Descriptions fields.
    Go down to Default Destinations and set it to " Source w:o additional names"
    ...set it to 'testingfolder'
    Save the preset.
    Now every time you apply the preset you'll get the file placed back into the source folder without the additional info in the file name.
    One caveat - make sure that your new file name does not exactly match (including the suffix) the original file. If it does, you'll overwrite the original.
    [The latter is only true if the destination folder is the same as the source folder, which I'd strongly advise not to do.]

    In LV2011 I am selecting a text file while my code is running. The "file name:" field is not populated with the selected file name.
    This is inconvenient, especially if I want to modify a file name by one or some few characters.
    How do i make LV 2011 behave like the previous versions?

    I figured it out while I was trying to extract the applicable section of my code to send it to you.
    I had an asterisc wired to the "default name" input of the "File dialog" VI.
    Now I am not wiring anything to the "default name" input of the "File dialog" VI and it works just fine.

  • Need to validate file Name,split the file name and store the splited values into Variables

    Dear All,
    Below is the my requirement.
    I have a folder, in that folder I have bunch of text files. The file name is below format
    ACA_122_pay_20140430_001
    Initially the file name start with ACA code,groupid,group name and date time stamp. This is the standard structure of file name.
    I want to check each and every file in the folder with this structure. The structure should be standard for all the files. If the structure same for all files I need to get codes form file name. For example
    If you see the below file name, I need to get ACA and put into variable,I need to get 122 and put into variable. For group name and date time needs to put in variable.
    If the file format is not valid state then I need to log exception.
    Let me know if I am not clear.
    Kindly provide the C# code for achieving the above requirement.
    As I am new to .net programming. kindly help me.

  • How can I set the Object Name to the file name on import?

    All-
    I've been manually typing the filename into Aperture's Object Name metadata field. Is there a way to do this automatically? I use metadata presets to fill in many other fields on import but haven't found a way to set metadata fields on a file-by-file basis.
    Perhaps there's a way to do this with the thousands of images already in my library as well...
    Thanks,
    Andreas

    Here's the cleaned-up version:
    tell application "Aperture"
    set selectedImages to the selection
    repeat with i in selectedImages
    set tName to name of i
    set value of IPTC tag "ObjectName" of i to tName
    end repeat
    end tell
    Some other related bits, which you can probably work out how to put into the above script:
    Find out the AppleScript names of the IPTC tags (but only tags which have a value for that image), the names will be listed in the 'result' pane in the Script Editor:
    tell application "Aperture"
    set selectedImages to the selection
    get name of every IPTC tag of item 1 of selectedImages
    end tell
    The same for EXIF tags:
    tell application "Aperture"
    set selectedImages to the selection
    get name of every EXIF tag of item 1 of selectedImages
    end tell
    And for any custom tags you have set up. If you haven't set up any custom tags (one of my main reasons for going with Aperture) this will just return camera and picture time zones:
    tell application "Aperture"
    set selectedImages to the selection
    get name of every custom tag of item 1 of selectedImages
    end tell
    Finally, keywords:
    tell application "Aperture"
    set selectedImages to the selection
    get name of keywords of item 1 of selectedImages
    end tell
    To grab the first keyword name try 'name of keyword 1 of...' etc.
    To grab the parent keywords for hierarchical keywording stuff try experimenting with 'get parents of keywords of'. The keywords seem to be read-only from AppleScript, so a magic script that added all parent keywords doesn't seem to be possible.

  • How to get the File name that File Adapter is giong to write to a directory

    Hi,
    I am really stuck at one pint while working with File Adapter/FTP Adapter.
    My requirement is I need to read a message from the Queue and write it to a directory as a physical file using a File/FTP adapter and the name that adapter will give to the file at runtime need to find and inset into the database for audit.
    Is any body could help me to know the file name at run time that generated by the adapter?

    Hi,
    I got the answer, I am posint this reply here that someone get the answer for this.
    I have tested like this...
    Create an empty BPEL process
    Create two File Adapters (one for Read, one fro Write) operations.
    Create a variable of type OutboundHeader_msg ( this message is chosen from the fileAdapterOutboundHeader.wsdl).
    Create a receive active and link it to the read operation then create a variable. Make sure this is the first activity so you check the create instance checkbox.
    Create invoke activity and link it to write adapter link.
    Place the assign activity in between the receive and invoke.
    In the assign activity create a copy operation and give your own name to the file name element inside the variable you created above.
    Now double click on invoke activity go to the adapter tab and choose the above variable as the Input Header Variable.
    This will generate the your own named file in the output file directory.
    Thanks,
    Khaleel

  • How to give field name to Receiver File Name.

    Hi ,
    In my source target structure there is a field name
    "job id" .
    I need that value coming in that field name to be given to
    Receiver File Name.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
    You could use the field name to the File Name. For that you could go ahead with variable substituiton in receiver communication channel.
    In receiver Communication channel use variable substitution as
    In file name -- %Var1%
    In Variable substitution parameter give Var1 ---> payload:<field Name>

  • Check if file exists without knowing the file name

    I'm new to Java and am working on a program that needs to check a folder every couple of min to see if a file has been placed there, then open the file, read it and then change the name.
    The file name will be similar to 20020905 (the current date, but I don't know if the time will be appended to the name or not), but will not have a file extention.
    If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

    why go about it using the file name? Why not use the lastModifiedDate, which will be less then the last time you checked, e.g.:
    Date lastCheck = new Date();
    while(true) {
      try {
         Thread.sleep(yourDelay);
      catch(Excepiton e) { }
      File [] files = yourDirectory.listFiles();
      for (int i = 0; i < files.length; i++) {
        if (files.isDirectory()) {
    //skip directories
    continue;
    Date modified = new Date(files[i].lastModified());
    if (lastCheck.before(modified)) {
    System.out.println(files[i].getName() + " is new");
    //update time of last check
    lastCheck = new Date();
    That code isn't real exact, but it gives you an idea. I think using the lastModified date is a little more elegant then keying off file name conventions, but use what ever works best. If you use code like I suggested, depending upon how often files are added you might have to account for a possiblity where a file is created while you are iterating through that 'for' loop, meaning its file creation date qualifies it for your condition, but it will be less then the newly updated lastCheck value.

  • Is there a way to automatically set the file name in Acrobat Properties when exporting a PDF from Indesign?

    When I used Quark to make a PDF, the title area in the PDF was automatically populated with the file name, there in the properties tab. We like use this area to confirm file names of original files, so we can keep track of drafts, (in case the file name of the PDF is changed, which our boss often does). Is there any way to set up InDesign to do the same?

    @stadlock – I think I know what you mean…
    You exported to PDF and changed the file name in the export dialog to a different one from the document name presented there the first time you exported that document. And in exports after that the new name will be presented in the dialog instead of the name of the document.
    What you can do against that?
    1. First time you want to export: Save before the document is exported. And do not save after it's exported with a new file name.
    2. After the new file name is already there in the export dialog:
    Type in the document name in the dialog. Export. Or abort after chosing a export preference. Save. Check again, if the document's file name is in the export dialog. If yes, procede like in suggestion #1. If not do a full export with the document's file name, save and then procede with suggestion #1.

  • How to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

    how to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

    Within Aperture you have Images, which are constructed on-the-fly from two files (the Master and the Version).  You get an image-format file _only_ when you export an Image.  You select the file name (usually a scheme) when you create an image-format file (that is, when you export).  Look under "Aperture→Presets→File Naming" for built-in Presets.  You can, of course, create your own or customize any provided.
    The Preset is applied to only the file newly created by your "export" command.  It is not applied to the Image in Aperture (unless you rename your Versions or your Masters).

  • Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper)

    Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper). For example, if I am downloading a paper by smith called "Surgery" that was published in 2002, it will automatically set the file name in the download to smith- surgery 2002. I have heard pages is smart enough to do this.
    thank you

    Pages can export only its own documents. They may be exported as PDF, MS Word, RTF or Text files.
    Pages can import (ie. Open a file as, or Insert a file into, a Pages document) documents in several formats, but won't rename the document as you describe. Documents that can be Opened (eg. Text, AppleWorks 6 WP, MS Word files) are converted to Pages documents, and retain their original names, with .pages replacing the original file extension. Files that can be Inserted (generally .jpg, .pdf and other image files) become part of the existing Pages file and lose their names.
    It may be possible, using AppleScript, to extract the text you want and to Save a Pages file using that text as the filename, but that would depend in part on being able to identify which text is wanted and which is not.
    How will the script determine where the author's name begins and where it ends?
    How will the script recognize the beginning and of the title, an decide how much of the title to use in the filename?
    How will the script recognize the year of publication?
    For papers published in a specific journal, with a strict format for placing each of these pieces on information, or containing the needed information as searchable meta data in the file, this might be possible. But it would require knowledge of the structure of these files, and would probably handle only papers published in a specific journal or set of journals.
    Outside my field of knowledge, but there are some talented scripters around here who might want to take a closer look.
    Best of luck.

    Barry

  • Can I append the file name from a Foreach Loop Container Enumerator into a SQL Server Statement?

    I would like to pass back via an Email the name of the file that was successfully FTP'ed to a remote server. And I was hoping to do this via an Execute SQL Task with the following SQL Statement...but I just don't know if it will append the Foreach Loop Container
    variable enumerator to the appended Email message that I am building in SQL Server or if I can and how I can...
    I sort of get the feeling that I can try and do this via Dynamic SQL...I just don't know if by building dynamic SQL if my Foreach Loop Container enumerator variable will be appended to my Email Message via the SQL Server UPDATE
    @[User::FTPFHFileName]
    Or do I add a Data Flow Task and an OLE DB Command and pass the Foreach Loop Container enumerator variable to a Stored Procedure referenced in the OLE DB Command via a "?"
