CS5 handling metadata differently then CS4?

Hiya there.
I have a general workflow of applying metadata with GeoSetter - Viewing in Bridge - Opening in ACR & Photoshop for editing - then producing albums for upload with Jalbum.
I found all the photos I've edited since using CS5 generates this error in Jalbum when it attempts to produce reduced size images for the album -
ICC APP2 encountered without prior JFIF!
I have Photoshop convert all images into an sRGB workspace and save in the same profile.
I found that if I just reopen and save in CS4 with no changes Jalbum will handle them properly, if i open good ones in CS5 and save, again with no changes, it suddenly gives me that error.
The issue is for Jalbum to produce the galleries I have to tell it not to save the exif data in the rescaled images.
The problem with that is suddenly all my shooting settings, gps, time stamps, contact info, etc... is gone including the ICC color profile information. So aside from loosing all that other info the sRGB image becomes an untagged sRGB image that will generally look oversaturated/constrasted when viewed on wide gamut screens.
What's CS5 doing differently all of a sudden from CS4?

Until they fix the bug (and it sounds like they probably just used old JPEG code without understanding it), the only real option is to resave the files in another application that writes JFIF compliant (old school) JPEG files.  That could be an older version of Photoshop, as you've already done.
It's not really the metadata that's different, just one tag in the file that they expect, but isn't there anymore.  For some reason when that tag is missing, they give up on parsing everything else.

  • Is the registration process for CS5 Design Premium different than CS4?

When I installed my CS4 Design Premium the program would ask me to register from time to time until I finally did it to stop the reminder from coming up.
Is the  CS5 Design Premium registration process the same?

I can't imagine why not, but you really should call Adobe sale to make sure you've got all the proper credentials.

  • Handle 2 different versions of proxy in Sproxy

    Hi,
We have two different releases going on and in XI we have mapped 2 different versions of proxy to 2 different SWVC. But when I generate the proxy in R/3 the proxy-interface name and Implementing class name are same in both the versions, so when I make changes to the newer version it is getting copied into the older version as well which we don't want to happen. Any idea how we should be handling 2 different versions for the same proxy?
    Thanks,
    David.

Is it possible to have two or more versions of Coherence on several JVMs in the same cluster? Say Coherence 3.6 on one JVM and Coherence 3.7 on another. Would there be cases where functionality may break where the same client gets routed to one version of Coherence and then later to another version on the same cluster?I think Coherence will not allow joining the cluster with different major version numbers. Versions much closer to one another may be able to coexist, but in general it is not recommended (of course a rolling restart upgrade of Coherence would by definition lead to this scenario).
For TCP*Extend there is a bit more leniency in the system, there are different protocol versions for TCP*Extend and some TCP*Extend protocol versions allow backward compatibility for a client running on the previous protocol version.
In short, you should always ask for confirmation from Oracle for specific version combinations.

  • Awful previews of Photoshop CS5 jpg's in InDesign CS4

Since this week I have Photoshop CS5. I save my pictures as eps with jpg preview. These pics look absolutely awful in InDesign CS4... Very jagged and low res. The pictures I save with Photoshop CS4 look good in InDesign CS4. I posted about this in the Photoshop forum and there someone said this is a bug in InDesign, "some sort of metadata parsing failure" and I had to go to this forum for more information about that.
Is there anything I can do to get better looking previews? Is this a known bug? Something Adobe can fix? I feel almost forced to use Photoshop CS4 again for saving my pictures...

Yes, I am using typical diplay, but the Photoshop CS4 pictures look fine with that in InDesign (though obviously not as good as with high quality display). Working with high quality display all the time is impossible: InDesign gets way too slow with that (with the designs I am working on).
After noticing how bad Photoshop CS5 pictures look in InDesign CS4, I saved the exact same picture with Photoshop CS4 (exact same settings of course) and that pictures looks as I am used to. Somehow the Photoshop CS5 gives my bad looking previews in InDesign CS4... When I place both pictures (Photoshop CS4 and CS5) next to each other in the same InDesign CS4 document, you can CLEARLY see the difference.

  • Color in photoshop different then in aperture

i had to notice that raw files adjusted in aperture always look different in photoshop...
i work in a completely colormanaged environment and i really don't have any problems printing, but when i export files and open them in PS, there is a definite shift in color...
i called apple about this and the answer was that aperture handles and displays color differently then PS does....even with the same colorprofile/space....which does not make a lot of sense to me and i really feel that this wasn't so pronounced a couple of months ago....now my adjustments (especially for skintones) in aperture are almost useless for PS....
during my discussion with the apple tech i also found out that the "edit with PS" option always attaches adobe RGB as the profile, regardless of the setting in the prefs....to work in any other colorspace, one has to export and then manually open in PS....strange but not really a big problem, as long as one knows about it....
what really worries me is the answer i got when i said that the files look very different in aperture and PS...that the 2 apps read and interpret color differently....isn't that what colorsync is all about? or at least should be?
i am looking at my files in aperture using the "onscreen proofing" option set to the colorspace i work in....i have tried to export the same file in different spaces, all with the same result...a visible difference in PS (regardless of the PS working profile or PS soft proofing)....
i am wondering if there is a way to corrupt my colorengine? with several software updates since 10.5 and this seems to get worse? any idea anyone? i keep a clean system and maintain it frequently (and not obsessively) and everything else works great....any input welcome...

I think using the previews (as in quick preview mode) yields results that lie. When making all adjustments, I'm looking at the RAW file.
I think some clarification is needed here for both of you to determine what is going on.
    1. Quick Preview Mode uses a jpeg preview that is embedded by the camera within the raw file. It's not "lying". It's just giving you the camera's version of things. Just like Aperture, ACR, DPP, Nikon Capture NX each have different color engines and will give different renderings of the same raw file - the same is happening here. The color and tone of Aperture's Quick Preview Mode is not going to match Aperture's rendering, it will only match the rendering of the OEM software that came with your camera. Quick Preview mode is no different than using something like Photo Mechanic.
    2. PSSSSS - your color should be matching between Aperture and a file exported into Photoshop but there are a many variables at play here and you need to pin them down to figure out what is going on.
-I assume you are working on a calibrated display (one calibrated with a hardware device like an Xrite Display or Eye-one or similar). That's the only way to know that what you are seeing is accurate in either program.
-For Aperture, make sure you are not in Quick Preview Mode and you do not have soft-proofing turned on.
-For Photoshop, make sure you do not have "Proof Setup" turned on and in your Color Settings make sure that it is set to "Preserve Embedded Profiles".
-With all three of the above done your color should match. If it does not there another possible issue I'm aware of and that is that Aperture is not compatible with certain kinds of display profiles. This goes back to 2006 and I don't know if it has been corrected. What I found then is that Aperture did not display images correctly if the display/monitor profile uses a "Large (LUT)" setting.
Here's a thread going over that issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=469271&tstart=0
I think certain screen calibration pucks like the Huey do use the "Large (LUT)" setting but do not let you know that or give you any other options.
-One last possible issue, PSSSSS, is that your post lists a MacBook Pro as your computer. Are you using an external display? If not there could be an issue in MBP screen and/or its profile. How so? I've found that MBP screen, while the best to date, is still wanting. It can show images as noisy when they are not and it can show images as slightly posterized when they are not. I don't know if this affect is across the board or only within certain programs. For example, when I shoot tethered, my Canon 1DsM3 tethering to my MBP and using Canon's DPP software. The previews in the DPP can look noisy and a touch posterized, as I just mentioned, but the same files opened on my desktop Mac Pro/Apple Cinema Display look just fine.
-In this thread, http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7518140#7518140 , you mention "Show Master Image" or using the loupe shows a color shift in the image. I'm not seeing that at all on my system. If I remember correctly, this was part of the problem I saw when I found the display profile to be incompatible with Aperture (again, mentioned above).

  • Exporting Metadata In Bridge CS4

Bridge CS3 used to have a decent metadata export script, CS4 seems not to have this feature. How do I export the metadata from multiple image files in CS4 as a file type readable by EXCEL?

An excellent little script Paul and I thank you for it.
May I make several suggestions.  This comes from a user and not a programmer so I am looking at it from the possibility of future usage.  I am not trying to be critical, as I do love this little gem, only seeing how I would use it.
Have it so that the directory structure does not export.  A user will likely be saving the CSV file in the same directory so showing the directory is moot.  Or make it optional.
Have it so that the last used set of selected fields (row headings) become the default.  It saves the user from having to select the same ones time after time.
Have the selected fields show up as the row headings in the file.
I have needed something like this.  I have a large collection of digital archives (10,000+ images) which is metadata centric and which I am using for a web site.  Since Adobe does not have a way to export my carefully created and crafted metadata enmasse I can easily see where this script can aid in my design.
In the past I have been forced to copy my metadata information from Bridge into my design.  This was tedious after the 800th or so crafted HTML file.  Using this script I can now export it to a spreadsheet for usage.
       Thank you!

Yes you are correct, it is with the setting of the properties.
Where do i report this then if it is not with the SDK but the manual setting of properties.
Also, how do i alter this ussue with the SDK, what are the commands, does it have to be done only by Javascript?

  • Lightroom, 5.5, Mac version: lens metadata incomplete and/or inconsistent.  Photos taken with the same camera and lens display the lens metadata differently in LR 5.5, but are the same in the original files

LR is putting different descriptions of the same lens, used with the same camera, in the metadata of photos taken on the same occasion.
    For example:
The following two images were taken with the same camera and lens.
They were imported at the same time into LR by copying.
The only difference in treatment is that the first was an untouched out-of camera jpeg, the second had been flipped using Preview on the Mac.
The one that was flipped has a full description of the lens, the one that was untouched has an abbreviated description.
When you show the file in the Finder and read the metadata using Preview, the correct full lens description appears.
Why is LR displaying the metadata differently for these two files?

Can you zip up a few of your GoPro images, upload them to dropbox.com and post a share link, here, so others can experiment with them, or do you mean this issue is global to all camera models?

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop ("CS5" won't do for instance; we would need CS5 vers 12.0.2 or whatever) and of Bridge, machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, video card specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.

Well, that is interesting, but I’m going to guess that the snippets are just a form of IDML so if that’s the case I guess it would make sense.

  • Why is my iphone 4s 64GB serial number on the box different then the serial number on the phone?

I just purchased a new Iphone 4s 64GB. I brought it to my carrier to have it activated. when I came home to register it with Apple, I noticed that the serial number on the box is different then the serial number on my Iphone. Why?

When you bought the iPhone, was the box sealed?  Srink wrapped?  If not then the iPhone may have been changed.
Have you tried to register the iPhone with Apple and does it come up clean, that is, not previously registered?

  • Better documentation of how LR handles metadata

I would like the on-line help to accurately describe how LR handles metadata, especially writing them in files like DNG and TIFF, the usage of sidecar files (.XMP), and how all of that interacts with Adobe Photoshop CS and its Browser, and Photoshop CS2 and CS3 and Bridge.

The short answer is that the IPTC, EXIF and other built-in core metadata is written to DNG and TIFF and JPEG and travels with the file and can be viewed in any application that provides xmp functionality to view it - like a File Info... menu item. Metadata about changes made to the file and how it looks is not carried as embedded metadata when the image is exported. There is no functionality in CS2 or CS3 to view a sort of history file with images alterations.
