CS5 Issues
I've barely begun to use CS5 (evaluation copy) and have already found some issues I don't know how to solve. And I was so looking forward to content aware fill!
1) CS5 is losing focus after a resize. I do a lot of repetitive things where I use a series of keystrokes to accomplish something, trying to avoid mousing in order to do it faster. So I do CTRL/ALT I, enter the first number, tab, tab, enter the second, press enter. Then I do CTRL/A to select it all. BOOP! So I mouse and touch the top bar on the image. Then I can do CTRL/A. I also discovered if I hit ESC after doing the resize I can do CTRL/A. This is not how CS4 behaves.
2) I have the memory issue. Yes, I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT display adapter. When I went to turn off Open GL I found it was not turned on so that's not a fix for me. I guess we're waiting on that one.
3) When I close CS5, I get Adobe Photoshop CS5 has encountered a problem and needs to close. Well, I was closing it anyway, but this is a pain. Is this related to the video problem? I see in some posts about previous version of Photoshop that a video driver problem could cause that. I don't have a problem with CS4 though... I'm not terribly excited to go in a muck with video drivers when everything else but CS5 works, which includes a LOT of programs.
Judy
If it is that specific, then there is another memory problem. I got out of memory and wasn't using content aware fill. I had merely opened a number of images, edited them, and closed them. Something I've done many times with CS4 and never had an out of memory problem. That elevates this problem to more serious, if it isn't even known by Adobe. With Windows xp, I have max memory installed. With CS4 I ran Lightroom, Bridge, and CS4 without ever getting an out of memory problem. I guess I'm not going to upgrade in the near future.

It affected only a single user on the system. Reinstalling, resetting preferences in both PS and ID, removing all Adobe user preferences and caches, none of it worked.
After doing some system troubleshooting (disk permissions, disk repair, etc.), I found myself in Keychain Access, looking at why there was a renamed login.keychain. Keychain Access listed a keychain with a name similar to Persistent Encrypted State (I didn't record the exact name for posterity). I couldn't open it, and eventually decided to run Keychain First Aid, It found problems with the Persistent Encrypted State and removed references to it. After a reboot, both programs started working.

CS5 ISSUE - STORIES NOT LOCKING ALL THE TIME IN INCOPY
I have an issue where sometimes we will have one user open a story and it will NOT show it as being locked (pencil with line through it). The majority of the time it will, but seems to happen too often and I see it being a problem this coming weekend as they start the switch from Quark to CS5. I just can't have users being able to check out the same story as one person will overwrite the other. We work off a file server with ExtremeZip installed. Has anyone else seen this? Sometimes if the document is available to be refreshed, like on a different story, it will then put a lock on the file. I am not doing anything cross platform, this testing is done on 2 macbook pro's with both IC and ID CS5 installed. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, BobWe have also had this problem. We started the Indesign/Incopy workflow in CS2 and did not see this happen until CS4. It's continuing in CS5. Apparently there is a delay in the lock file being created. If someone else checks the story out before that locked file is created, it appears both parties have the story checked out. However, only one of them actually has command of the file and only their edits will be saved. We reported this to Adobe last year when we began seeing it in CS4, and they were able to replicate the problem; however, they've not fixed it.
We haven't tried the "refresh" workaround. I'll give that a try. I've also wondered if checking out multiple stories at once causes the problem. Some of our editors have the habit of checking out all the stories in a layout at one time. Obviously, it takes a little time for the locked files to be created on as many as 100 stories. If someone else tries to check out one of those stories in the meanwhile, Incopy lets them. At that point, we have a problem. -
Photoshop CS5 Issues & Mini Bridge Not Working In CS5
I have Photoshop Issues:
Mainly with copy & paste tools after a short period of time, tools start to function incorrectly for example.. Copy & Paste when working with identical images & wishing to select a part of the image to paste directly on top off the identical image they do not align up pixel by pixel I zoom a 100% in to see and ifs off shifted by 1 pixel out If I move it into place it jumps 2 pixels to the left and if I move to the right again 2pixels. I can't get it in the precise place
it normaly happens after Ive made a couple of pastes.. till I end up having to close & restart photoshop to get it functioning correctly. Is this a bug or am I using it indifferent.
Also the Clone stamp tool stops functioning after using the copy and paste tool after short periods. Example I copy then paste a selected part of the image back into the image then wish to the clone stamp tool to get the correct texture right.
And last issue is.. Mini bridge does not load I click browse images & it states "Waiting for bridge CS5.." ? Nothing happens
Windows Xp Media Centre Edition: (Service Pack 3)
staceyparish @ live dot co dot ukIt's worth checking to see if the "jumping" problem you have is because Snap is enabled. Snap causes Photoshop to try to auto-align things for you, and can look much as you've described. Check the View menu to see if Snap is checked. If so, either uncheck it, or hold the Control key down when you are moving things that you wish to align without snap.
Also, keep in mind that with the Move tool selected, you can "Nudge" a layer by one pixel at the current zoom level by using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
Can you list specific steps to reproduce the Clone tool failure? It might also be helpful for you to capture your screen showing the current state of the image, layers, and settings at the time you're seeing the Clone tool fail to work as you expect. You may have a setting wrong that someone will be able to see.

Upgrading from CS3 to CS5 issues
I work at a medium size College on a pretty small team, 1 editor/writer, 1 communications coordinator, and 1 designer (me). I've been using InDesign (ID) for 5 years now and we added on the InCopy (IC) workflow a few years ago with CS3 (both of us then had CS3). The editor and I just recently upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and we've hit a snag. I opened a project, the Academic Catalog in fact, in CS5 that we began in CS3 which we were almost finished with and when I tried to check out a story I got this error.
"This story needs to be converted to "InCopy Document" format in order to edit it."
The editor got the same message in IC. So I thought maybe files created by CS3 for IC don't work with CS5 so I decided to try to unlink the INCX files in ID and relink. Sure enough it created a new ICML file which the editor was able to open, edit, and save in IC. And I thought I had my problem solved until I opened the file in ID; when I tried to update the linked file ID crashed. I've tried unsuccessfully to get the updated stories from IC to update in ID w/o crashing. I've restarted the computer; it is Windows afterall. I've run 'Updates' in both our programs, and it says there are none. I've tried tossing the ID and ICML file; fortuanalty I was smart enough to do all this with a copy of the orginal CS3 file. I followed all my above steps a second time and it's still crashing. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a known issue like this?
btw, we're both running Windows Vista and both in CS5 (7.0).AM
I might just have to go back to CS3 to finish this project up—fortunatly I foresaw an issue like this and kept CS3 installed. That will most likely solve the problem with this project, provided it too does not crash. And that is my concern for future 'new' projects in CS5, are those going to crash too? I think I'll do some testing with my editor.
Bob,
What type of additional info would help?
Thanks,
Colleen -
Hi from a first time poster!.
Basically my organisation has upgraded fro CS3 to CS5 and we are having a few performance issues.
Can i configure the preferences so that when i pan around a document with lage images or artwork placed in it the screen does not go all jerky?.
Is this something to do with CS5's live draw function?.
Also is it possible to copy and paste images from a CS3 document to a CS5 document?, currently when we try the images are not being recognized in the CS5 document.

When you try to past from CS3 to CS5 do you have both open in CS5? Might sound a dumb question but if you have one open in CS3 and one in CS5 it isn't going to work, so even if you have a document you want to keep in CS3 for the purposes of copying just open it in CS5, it wil convert to a CS5 document and you will be able to copy and paste between them.
One last tip, when converting docs to CS5 from CS3, particularly larger ones, there have been quite a few reports of instability, sometimes leading to corruption, but mind you we only see the problems on this forum. To prevent this happening the best route is to export from CS3 to inx format and open that in CS5. YOu can do that automatically with whole folders (and sub-folders) of files with the batch convertor script that is my latest favourite, it is made by Peter Kahrel and is free, you'll find it here. With that you can use it in CS3 to convert a whole batch to inx, then use it in CS5 to convert those inx files to CS5 indd. Super handy, really fast, and great for mass exports too. -
Photoshop CS5 Issue - Very Annoying
Hello all,
I'm having a very weird (and needless to say, very annoying) issue with my Photoshop CS5 Extended. Any knowledge or help would be highly appreciated. FYI - I'm photographer so my primary use is image editing.
Basically, every time I make a change to a layer (apply a filter or change blending modes), Photoshop does not reflect those changes unless I hit Ctrl+S to save or perform another action (such as selecting a different tool from the tool-set). For example, consider this scenario:
- I open a PSD file that only contains a background layer.
- I duplicate the background layer
- I change the blending mode to "Multiply"
- Nothing happens to the image (no visual changes even though the image should have gotten darker)
- Now if I hit Ctrl+S to save the document, the screen is refreshed and now I see the changes.
I have no idea what might be causing this. I have the latest 12.0.1 patch installed. I have gone through my preferences to see if something needs to be checked but to no avail.
Any help will be appreciated.
FYI - I'm running this on Windows 7 - 64-bit
Thanks
-aliThat can be a good workaround, but be aware that some things won't work... For example, you won't be able to see a preview of your brush hardness using the Alt-right mouse button brush gestures. And of course zoom won't be smooth, and pans won't flip with inertia (big whoop). If you have Extended you may not find the 3D features as usable.
What I'd do if I were you is do some searches for people using your specific video card and see if any of them have found any older drivers that work better. Then bug nVidia to fix their drivers.
Alternatively, a really fine video card with huge speed and memory can be had nowadays for a hundred bucks.

I'm getting the following issue.
From Lightroom, if I select "edit in photoshop CS5" and then complete some edits and re-save the file, I will get the 2 of 2 etc in my filmstrip.
However, If I start to work on that image again in lightroom, any adjustment I make causes a flicker, and then the image renders itself again. It blinks, and re-renders with the new adjustment. Very annoying.
The only solution is to shut down lightroom and then re-open it.
Anyone else have this problem and if so, has anyone figured out what might be causing it?
Thanks.
FulvioAre you selecting the original file in Lightroom and then 'Edit in Photoshop'? When I do this and then save to the same folder in Photoshop the new file shows up in Lightroom's catalog without any further action be me. Do you have the Photoshop option set to 'Maximise PSD compatibility'?

Illustrator CS5 issues after upgrading to OS X Yosemite
Hi, I upgraded to OS X Yosemite recently and since then
my Illustrator CS5 has started playing up. A few days ago I noticed it
was taking a long time to save and now it won't let me export files to jpeg
format. It crashes. Please help!Adobe has a forum. I'd look there to see if others are having issues.
It is entirely possible that CS5 isn't fully compatible with Yosemite. Adobe's preferences is to push/support their subscription Creative Cloud, and making older software work is kinda counter to that. (and honestly I couldn't install CS2 on my windows 8 machine, the minimum compatibility was CS3 for Windows 8, so it's not unknown for Adobe programs to have a limited backwards compatibility) -
Photoshop CS5 issues with..everything
I recently posted a specific question, but it looks like there are more issues then just the original.
Basically, I will be using the clone tool and all of a sudden I cannot change the brush size with my wacom tablet. I have to quit and restart Photoshop for it to work.
If I don't restart it and ignore my wacom tablet, I can not use quick selection keys such as undo. The clone stampe tool won't show the overlay (and yes everything is checked.)
I reinstalled PS CS5 and it was better for a couple days, but now I am running into the same issues.
Thoughts? Who would I even contact for this? It's not a wacom issue and I haven't made any software updates for my MAC recently.
All Adobe producs are up to date.On and off through history these kinds of problems have been seen (I've seen them myself from time to time).
While it's near impossible to tell what's really gone wrong, VERY often the problems are solved by getting new drivers or system updates that correct the infrastructure on which Photoshop relies.
OpenGL drivers have traditionally been buggy, and certainly we've heard of problems with Wacom tablet drivers. There is also the real possibility that a 3rd party plug-in is at fault.
Thing is, bugs in any of this software can cause corruption in Photoshop's extensive set of RAM-resident data while it's running, which can lead to trouble seen MUCH later than when the problem originally occured - for example your failure to quit bug.
I can only advise checking for system updates, plug-in updates, and driver updates.
I know that in some cases in the past, actually using an older version of a driver (thinking of Wacom, for example) has been advisable.
Keep the faith, it can work right.

Creating app in Flash CS5 issue!
I've been creating an app in Flash CS5, but already early in the process I encountered a lag issue when I got it on my iPhone4. I've created a simple map, with few colors on it, where it's possible to zoom in/out (pinch) and move the map around using a single finger, when the map is zoomed in.
When I start piching in/out it lags, and when I move the map it lags as well.
I have already tried these things:
- Different fps from 8 to 60
- Fewer colors
- Fewer object
- Converting objects to symbols
- Deleted unwanted layers
- Rendered using both CPU and GPU
- Tried fullscreen view and none fullscreen view
Anyone who has an idea on how to reduce the lag issue?already early in the process I encountered a lag issue when I got it on my iPhone4.
Surprise, surprise... this is one of the reasons why Apple recommends against using third-party development tools, instead of native ones.
Quoted from Apple's "Thoughts on Flash":
+"We know from painful experience that letting a third party layer of software come between the platform and the developer ultimately results in sub-standard apps and hinders the enhancement and progress of the platform."+
You'd be better off asking in the Adobe developer forums for help with their development software. -
CS5 Issue with PDF exporting to Illustrator?
Hi all,
I'm having issues exporting PNG files to PDF files from Fireworks CS5. When I export, they're suddenly saving and needed to being opened in Illustrator - which I don't want them to do or have the AI file extension. Is there a setting I can change? I need a "traditional" PDF so I can send to a client who does not have Illustrator.
This issue just started today, and I'm not sure where the source of the change is.
Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!
Regards,
DarrylI very much appreciate your help. As you recommended, I tried the conversion without OCR (useful post is here http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3062) but again with result "the conversion failed because the file is taking too long to process". This option makes the conversion easier but doesn't help in this particular case. This document doesn't contain any pictures so the recognition wasn't so processing expensive to help shorten the time of the conversion.
We are talking about long (hundreds of pages) but simple document formatted as a table. I expected that the conversion to Excel sheet is simple. If the service is so complicated, why don't use some spool, take requests and send notifications about the result. You can have hours for conversion, I don't care.
And, if the service is so sensitive, maybe some list of limitations and to-do's in case of problems could be helpful - the best on the home page of the product to be informed before making the order. It isn't possible to spend many hours on discussions and forums and read about the troubles of another people to find the solution. Maybe could be a fair solution to give a possibility to try your tool for free with some limitations (number of pages, number of documents or something similar).
I am grateful that we found a solution and I can cancel my order and get my money back. Unfortunately, this service doesn't fit my needs. -
When will Apple fix CS5 issues?
So... my newly acquired CS5 set-up (Macbook Pro mid-2009, 8GB RAM) has been crashing like a hijacked plane ever since Apple gave us the wonderful 10.6.4 update. Adobe even have a support document to this effect: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/854/cpsid_85423.html
Which is basically a giant shrug of the shoulders.
Now, is it just me or is this one giant joke that such an expensive combination of software and hardware would be completely unusable?posting your video card info would be helpful -- there are some known issues with certain cards that are causing these problems
i recall it is the nvidia cards that have the problem i am referring to
apple is aware of the problem -
I have a few issues going on with CS5 and hope someone can lend advice..
First, I am usiing CS5 with Windows 7 Professional 8GB RAM. All of my video files reside on an external GRaid drive. For over a year now, I have been using this setup and no issues, buit suddenly I am ruuning into some challenges
I have an 8 min video edited. In the project there is a mix of MXF files and MOV's. Whenever I open this project up, so many of the clips appear unrendered, even though they were not this way when I closed the project. Also, the Generating Peak File goes on for a while... drives me crazy... the funny thing is, I have a copy of this project with the exact same files, but the video is only 4 min long. The rendering and peak file thing does happen when I open this project.
Also, lately all of my projects (does not matter what type of media), are playing choppy in the timeline. It plays, gets hung up and starts again.... this has never happened before in over a year of using the same drives and computer. But now, every timeline is having issues... I thought it might be contained to just one project, but this is not the case. My drives have plenty of space and computer is fast, so I am baffled.
Any suggestions?
Steve
**UPDATE**
Regarding the choppy playback. I thought about what I might have done differently over the past few days which may be contributing to the playback issues. I recently bought a WD My Book Studio 2 Raid Array drive and hooked it up to my desktop via eSATA. (It is a backup drive which is only one when I need it) Can you beleive this is the issue. As soon as I removed the eSATA cable from the back of my desktop, the timeline playback is smooth..... when I connect it, it is choppy, The WD drive is not even on but just connecting the cable causing issues... can anyone explain this.>The WD drive is not even on but just connecting the cable causing issues... can anyone explain this
No... but my GUESS is that you should search Microsoft to see if there is a Windows help article
