CS5 "Locked"

Well, CS5 is not treating me well, so far. When I go to to Workspaces/New in CS5 and when I quit , I get a message like this:
"Could not save Preferences because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders."
And then it crashes.
Wassup?

To summarize here are the items that I changed permissions on. I made myself the owner and applied changes to all enclosed items. Then I deleted system permissions. I made no changes to the root level library items. I don't know if I've missed anything but so far everything seems to be working fine.

  • Photoshop CS5 locking up

I have had Photoshop CS5 installed and working on my computer since it was first released.
Today, it is operating very slow and locks up for 15-30 seconds at a time. When I check with Windows Task Manager I see the Status as "Not Responding". When I check the performance in Windows Task Manager I see the CU usage at only 0% or 1%.
I have deleted the Adobe Photoshop Settings File a number of times. I have shut down and restarted both the computer and Photoshop many times.
I can not get any work done with it operating this way. Can anyone give me a clue as to what may be causing this problem?
Edit: Further checking shows that the delay is very long to open the action window, and longer yet if I try to run any action. Every time I click to open the action window, or to run an action, their is about a 30-40 second delay before anything happens. If I close the action window I can continue working with much less delays.
    Lawrence

Do you have any drive letters mapped to them?
If so, try turning them on or unmapping them and see if the slowness problem abates.
If this is the problem, in the long run you could access them using UNC names (e.g., if you have drive W: pointed at \\SERVER\SHARE you could just open Explorer windows, etc. using \\SERVER\SHARE directly).
I've noticed my external MyBook USB backup drive spins up sometimes when I'm using Photoshop, and it quite possibly does slow things down while the system waits for it to get to speed.  However that only takes 4 or 5 seconds so I just ignore it.  It would be nice to one day figure out why Photoshop accesses that drive though.  I certainly don't have it configured as scratch.

  • CS5 Locking Up System

I have a 32 bit PC that I recently upgraded. I put in the most amount of RAM memory I could and upgraded the system from XP to Windows 7 Ultimate.
Yesterday I upgraded from Photoshop CS2 to CS5 and have suddenly been having problems with the system locking up on me in the middle of a project.
I saw some suggestions that were made back in 2010 and I was wondering if some new solutions have been discovered for this problem since then
If so, please provide me a link to a topic thread dealing with this issue.
Also, when first using the program I could not figure out how to get the HISTORY window to open. That is a function
    I ALWAYS USE!!
    It should ALWAYS open automatically
I now have it working properly, but when opening the program for the first time the HISTORY window should ALWAYS BE THERE and ready to use
    Thanks

If I knew how to "save my workspace" I would most certainly have done it. I guess I seem wiser than I am?
I just checked and CS5 is opening properly with the history panel showing. However, Adobe should make certain the history panel ALWAYS SHOWS when the program is opened for the first time. It is not a luxury to me. That history panel is ESSENTIAL every single time I use Photoshop. It always opened, by default, in CS2 and earlier versions I have of the program. I don't see why the 'Adobe Experts' suddenly felt it was no longer needed to open by default. What were they thinking? That people no long need the option to undo their mistakes???
The Windows 7 upgrade comes with two disks. One for 32 bit systems and one for 64 bit systems. I have upgraded my 32 bit system to have the most amount of RAM it is able to use.
I just know I have never had such locking up problems with CS2 and earlier versions of Photoshop
Yes, I'm overdue for a reformat. I've been having other quirky problems as well. About twice a week I am cleaning out the files and checking for system errors and automatically correcting them. I just did that again before coming here today; after I defragged the 3% fragmentation of the C drive.
I'm hoping I can download the special recovery disk information to burn onto a disk as I once again test Norton Ghost 15. I didn't know I would need that disk the last time I re-formatted. It really pissed me off because I had to start all over and re-format again!!!!
Some people can get Norton Ghost 15 to work perfectly and some cannot. If I can get it to work I will never have to reformat 'from the ground up' again, CORRECT?
All my programs should be brought back to their original state when the computer was freshly re-formatted, RIGHT?
I'm asking, not telling. I really want Norton Ghost 15 to work for me, but it seems it is about a 50/50 gamble. Half the people at amazon love it and half hate it. Because of this I REFUSE to buy the program before I know for a fact it will work for me. I will try to once again use the trial version from the Symantic website.
    Thanks for your help
You must realize that I cannot copy and paste my messages from a wordprocessing program, like OpenOffice, into this window or copy from this edit panel into my word processing program. That is not cool. I always like to create my posts in a word processor first just in case my computer or browser crashes in mid-posting.
    SPECIAL EDIT:
I was able to copy and past this post AFTER it was properly posted; although it looks kind of weird in my word processing program.
The problem that led me to create posts like this in a word processor BEFORE I post them had to do with browser crashing problems. So copying the posts after the fact is rather redundant; although still useful as a record of what I have written.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 locks after reinstallation of Vista Ultimate

When CS5 Production Premium was launched I upgraded from CS4. The programs have worked (nearly) without problems - I mostly use Premiere Pro and Encore for creating DVD's and BD's (hobby).
Some months ago Windows update  (Vista Ultimate 64 bit) could not install 3 update files and came up with the message: Windows update error 80070490, which means that an update file in Vista is damaged. I ignored the problem but decided recently that I would follow Microsoft's recommendation and repair the file. I used the Dell Vista 64 DVD that came with the PC, but  as the update option was deactivated I unfortunately departed from the recommended Microsoft procedure and chose 'install'. This was a stupid decision, because all programs and drivers were 'wrapped up' in a file called Windows.old, and could not be activated. There is a procedure were you to a certain extent can go back, but I have chosen to update drivers and reinstall all the programs. Everything works apart from Premiere Pro. I cannot open my Premier projects, I cannot open a Premiere CS4 project and if I create a new project , the program locks (no response) when I create a sequence. In short: it locks no matter what I do.
I have uninstalled CS5 Premium Production and reinstalled it again, but it did not help. I have uninstalled it and installed CS4 and here everything works incl. Premiere Pro CS4.
The other CS5 64 bit programs - After Effects and Photoshop - works . The only program that does not work is Premiere Pro 64 bit.
Vista is updated (SP1 and SP2),  Bios is updated, Video cards are updated with the latest drivers from NVIDIA.
    My system is:
    Dell Precision T7500
Vista Ultimate 64 bit, latest update incl. SP1 and SP2.
Two Intel Quad core Xeon W5580, HT enabled
Two 4 GB NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 (latest drivers)
    48 GB RAM
    HD: 3 SAS (15.000 rpm)
The system is only used for video editing (hobby).
I have run out of ideas - can anybody help?
    Ernst Lunding

    No,
the only programs installed apart from Production Premium CS4 and CS5 are:
Cyberlink Powerlink9 (updated) - was also installed before Vista reinstallation.
Microsoft Security Essentials - was also installed before Vista reinstallation.
Norton 360 v. 4.0 - was also installed before Vista reinstallation, but problem occured before it was reinstalled.
Microsoft Office 2007 - was also installed before Vista reinstallation, but problem occured before it was reinstalled.
    It is very peculiar!!

  • Premiere Pro CS5 locking up network users

Networked users can't start Premiere CS5 - it locks up at which point I have to do a Command + Option + Escape to quit the program. Users created on the machine can start Premiere and it works fine. I have tried changing to 64bit mode but it doesn't help. Any ideas?

First thought is that this is a question for Adobe Support.
But what comes to mind is this app usable by networked computers? Adobe has pretty strict licensing and their products are usually only usable on one Mac unless you have some sort of volume licensing.

  • After Effects CS5 locks up

    Hi,
After effects CS5 starts up fine, but when I click any where on the top menu bar or use a short-cut it locks up.  I have to force quit once this happens.

    No recent updates
    Mac OSX 10.8.2
No Source footage Just trying to open a new comp
    No error message
It happens when I click anything on the top menu bar see image
It was working fine for about a week before it started doing this.
    Running no other software
    No third-party effects

If I open AE and not a project it will lock up when I click in the top menu bar.
If I open a project I can use the tools and windows, but if I click the top menu bar or use a short cut that is from the top menu bar it will lock up.
    Thanks

  • CS5 locks my PC constantly

I cannot even use the mouse or keyboard to shutdown when this happens.  I have to power down in order to reboot.  I can work for hours in Lightroom and Photoshop, but Pro will lock up the system in minutes or seconds.  This has happened on multiple projects, on both DV & DSLR and even just leaving the open new project dialog box open to go to the bathroom.  I'd think that it was my sytem that is unstable but there are no unexplained event log errors and so far no other programs are behaving this way.
A task as simple of playing back a single clip with no effects causes this issue if I play enough clips.
Since PPro has always been my bigest headache for stability, I built this new machine so that PPro CS5 would work.  It is a win7x64, 12gb, gtx-285, 980x cpu with standard bios setting, no overclocking.
If anyone has any constructive ideas, please post them.  Right now, I am very discouraged.
One interesting tidbit that I have found is that every time I open an existing project, it reconforms all of my footage's audio files, even after finishing, saving the project, and exiting cleanly.  Is this normal for CS5?

Again, why does CS5 conform all audio clips EVERY time the project is opened?  It even does this inside of media encoder when you select a PPRO sequence.  Couldn't this be a clue?
This should not be happening, but several users with CS4 experienced the same. In some cases, the Scratch Disks were on externals, usually USB, for some, they (or the Assets) were on networked drives. Some had moved the Assets around, or the Scratch Disk around. Still, for too many, there was never a reason found. May have been a few more causes, that I am just forgetting now.
Again, it should NOT be happening, and it would be good to find out why, as it might also help some of those CS4 users.
Though you probably have not used CS5 all that much, especially with the lock-ups, have you encountered any Project file corruption? Have you encountered any corrupted Assets, either inside of PrPro, or in other programs?
As the PRPROJ files are basically XML databases with links to the various Assets, and sets of instructions as to what the program will do with them, upon Export, it would seem that either the links to the CFA & PEK files is being lost for some reason. As mentioned above, this can happen when those files are locked (like with Windows Indexing), moved, renamed, or otherwise unavailable. PrPro will regenerate those files, if it cannot access the first ones - regardless of why it cannot access them, or locate them. This is what you are seeing, but the WHY is a mystery, at least at this point.
Unfortunately, other than mentioning some of the causes, plus the "unknown," I do not have anything useful. Since we are currently blessed with some Adobe presence here, maybe one of the folk, with inside knowledge, can comment. There might well be more Bug reports, than we saw here. Maybe Adobe knows of a potential cause, and can shed light on that - if so, I'll be glad to try and link some of those old threads to the answer.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - similar has happened to some users of PrElements. Do not recall if those were version specific, but would assume that they happened with PrE 7, or PrE 8, as I do not recall hearing of the issue in earlier version. PrPro is not alone in this behavior, though the causes might well be different.

  • Flash CS5 locks settings for new AS3 document

New install of Flash CS5.5, and I just opened it up after three weeks and the latest update.  I create a new AS3 document, 940 X 226 with a black background, and work on several animations. I close the document, and click File>New, and choose a new AS3 doc. Now I go to the Properties window and it's all greyed out. It says 940 X 226 with a black background again, but the document on the stage is the default 550 X 440 with a white background.
The ONLY way to open a new document that I can change properties on is to close Flash and reopen it.
    Any ideas?

Looks like you got a solution on the other thread.

  • Indesign CS5 - how to align objects

    Dear All,
I have a problem with Indesign that is present from CS2 trough CS3 & CS4 version. I thought that CS5 version finaly will solve this issue, but it seems to me that nothing changed.
When we have to align two objects lets say in Illustrator,  we may always mark the reference object by second click (then it is locked). In different software the sequence of marking objects for aligment is important (even better solution in my opinion than in Illustartor). But in Indesign things work different. If we align objects to the top - the most top object is reference. When we align to the left the object most to left is the base for aligment.
I think that everyone learned to live with that by right placing the objects before aligment. Sometimes by centering (in past versions) we were forced to lock one of the objects before aligment. But now in CS5 locked object is not selectable. Besides that I never liked this long "work around" method.
My question is how to easy align vertical centres of the objects shown on the picture below when I want object A to stay on place and object B to be centered to A. I don't want to use smart guides.
    Paul

    Hello Peter,
thank you for fast feedback. I appreciate it.
I don't want to use smartguides because when there are more objects around it will be confusing to guess if you have right center or not.
Changing preferences for locked objects will not help much I guess. I like the way the locked objects are unselctable now and of course, as you mentioned, it is time consuming way to go.
The case is, that I would like Adobe to add this issue to the wish list. If this "double click" way is good for Illustrator, why it is not implemented in Indesign, forcing users to use some magical, time consuming, workarounds.
To be honest, I hopped that I miss the point in this case and someone will tell me some obvious shortcut to use by selecting the objects to get the things right.

  • How do I fix the workspace error "because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions..."?

I keep getting the error message "Could not apply the workspace because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. ..." when I try to open a workspace. Any ideas how to fix the permissions and what file does not have permissions. I am on a Mac.

  • Where do I get help? AE CS5 Crashing Comp

After Effects CS5 locks up my computer several times a day. It has been triggered by several different actions from scrubbing a timeline to selecting a comp.
This happens with no other programs and I use alot of them.
My screen begins flickering and then it's all over. Hold the button on my Mac for a restart and hope I saved everything I worked on.
I seriously need a fix for this and Adobes support for their products is horrible.

  • CS5 ISSUE - STORIES NOT LOCKING ALL THE TIME IN INCOPY

I have an issue where sometimes we will have one user open a story and it will NOT show it as being locked (pencil with line through it).  The majority of the time it will, but seems to happen too often and I see it being a problem this coming weekend as they start the switch from Quark to CS5.  I just can't have users being able to check out the same story as one person will overwrite the other.  We work off a file server with ExtremeZip installed.  Has anyone else seen this?  Sometimes if the document is available to be refreshed, like on a different story, it will then put a lock on the file.   I am not doing anything cross platform, this testing is done on 2 macbook pro's with both IC and ID CS5 installed.  Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks, Bob

We have also had this problem. We started the Indesign/Incopy workflow in CS2 and did not see this happen until CS4. It's continuing in CS5. Apparently there is a delay in the lock file being created. If someone else checks the story out before that locked file is created, it appears both parties have the story checked out. However, only one of them actually has command of the file and only their edits will be saved. We reported this to Adobe last year when we began seeing it in CS4, and they were able to replicate the problem; however, they've not fixed it.
We haven't tried the "refresh" workaround. I'll give that a try. I've also wondered if checking out multiple stories at once causes the problem. Some of our editors have the habit of checking out all the stories in a layout at one time. Obviously, it takes a little time for the locked files to be created on as many as 100 stories. If someone else tries to check out one of those stories in the meanwhile, Incopy lets them. At that point, we have a problem.

  • How to mask out unwanted objects in locked-off shots in Prem Pro CS5.5

    hello,
I have Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection.
I am editing a short film on Prem Pro and on some of the locked-off shots where the camera doesn't move there are objects in shot, such as boom mic, that I want to get rid of by painting over them with what would be in the background (either by taking similar background from background nearby or by taking the background before/after the object moves into shot).
I have no idea how to go about this or what software to use. Should/could I do it all in just Prem Pro or would it need to be done in After Effects and or Photoshop or a combination of some or all of these.
If someone could point me in the right direction or recommend an article/articles or book to read to learn how to achieve this then that would be great.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have attached JPGs from 3 clips.
Clip one had the mic visible to the left at the bottom of the shot and also at time the woman's leg goes behind it (example b)
Clip two has a computer monitor just visible through the door at the bottom left corner of the shot.
Clip three, set in park, has a crew member's coat-tie flapping in and out of shot. Example A without it in shot and example B with it in shot.
Help on how to deal with these or advice on books to read to help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • CS4 Premiere locking up royally on little mts files on Mac Pro Lion 10.7, is CS5.5 any better

Sorry for long title, got the boxes mixed up.
Having trouble working with HDV mts files in CS4 Premiere on a new 12 core MAC Pro with Lion 10.7 OS
Have used Adode CS3 and now CS6 at my office regularly. CS6 can work with about any file type.
Found this ClipWrap program on online and have re-wrapped these mts files into .mov files. They do open and must be each rendered out and do so slowly. Scrubbing the video doesn't do well - locks it up.
Very certain I have plenty of Computer power, is CS4 a dog? It will open CS6 projects that I bring home from work and do basic cutting on with M2T files and MPEG2 HD video.
I also do not see near as many Transition and Effects options for Audio or Video in CS4 as I had back with the old CS3 when I use it - very puzzling.
Would CS5.5 give me more optimal performance with this MAC? Do I need a third party card? We now run full HD on CS6 at work without using the Blackmagic card I have. Should uninstall and re-install the software? I am a video editor, just doesn't seem to perform like it should.
I am considering looking into the Final Cut X after this. Thoughts on this subject welcome.
    Thank you.
