Cs5 make background music dip for voice over

is there a way to do this automatically?

You can do this with a dedicated audio editor or in After Effects. Here's a way to do it in After Effects:

  • Sountrack or Logic/Logic Express for voice over recording?

    Hello,
I am wondering which software is best for voice over work? Sountrack or Logic/Logic Express?
Any input would be great. I would add the standard effects/filters to certain voice overs and add sound effects and music.
I have a midi/guitar and garage band is enough for me. I would not want to use Garageband as my software of choice for voice over work. I want markers and other more advanced tools?
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Thanks for the answer.
I was looking at the Dialogue Tools in Sountrack and they appear to be perfect.
My main questrion is can record into Sountrack with a mic right? I have an m-audio saphire with a m-audio preamp.
I saw a demo of Soundtrack at NAB and all the effects looked perfect for voice over. I think Logic Studio is overkill but Sountrack and Logic Express( for my guitar) might be a perfect 1-2 punch. I will get Sountrack with The Final Cut Studio as I need video tools as well.
    Thanks,
    Erik

  • Microphone for voice over.

My standalone isight that I have used for voice overs has finally given up. (I'd developed a technique whereby I held the lens to my chin and pointed the isight down at about 45 degrees-but I digress) can anyone recommend a reasonable alternative, around $100 would be reasonable, I'm no pro but it has to be a reasonable quality.
I've bought and tried a microphone a day now for about a week and none match up to my experience with my old isight. I'd prefer one that needs to be close to the source sound so as background noise is not a huge problem and I'd also prefer it to be USB or firewire, I need to take on the guise of a ferret to get to the back of my mac.

I tried the logitech one from the  store, it didn't have the same quality as the isight but I could have lived with that I suppose as it wasn't as bad as some of the others I've tried. I don't know whether I got a faulty one, I don't think I did, because it seemed to work with Quicktime excepting the quality issue, but when I used it with FCE, it was awful.
Not sure if FCE has its own background noise cancelling feature that interfered with the background noise cancelling feature of the logitech but it was way to quiet 90% of the time and when it wasn't it was too loud, there was no middle ground. Overall too quiet, with odd words that were obviously said a little louder being clipped.

    Hi Erik,
I haven't used Logic or Logic Express, but I recently switched from Pro Tools to Soundtrack Pro 2. (I'm an independent producer/host for 2 weekly shows on Connecticut Public Radio.)
All I can say is this-- Soundtrack Pro has shaved hours off my Pro Tools workflow, is much more intuitive, and is (obviously) Mac-friendly, so I've been singing its praises ever since I made the switch.
In fact, I think Apple should be marketing it directly to radio stations!
    Hope this helps,

  • Use of inline external mike for voice overs

Hand held microphones have insufficient volume for voice overs. Was told to buy the iMic. It does not help. Would a condenser mike, or a mixer give me amplification? The built in mike does not pick up female voices, etc.

The iMic should work OK ..it's essentially a USB input amplifier to let you plug in other audio input devices, such as any variety of mics.
Another mic on its own would not normally have sufficient power to give reasonable audio into your Mac, and a mixer would not be as efficient as an iMic (..or other USB input device). A condenser would generally be way too underpowered without an 'iMic' to boost it.
The early iVoice - similar to an iMic - didn't properly separate its own mic's audio from any other audio coming in through its little 3.5mm input socket, so I opened up mine and snipped the wire which connects them, so that it would use only its external mic socket ..and then plugged other mics into that. The more recent iVoice II works OK.
When you've attached one of these USB audio input devices, check your System Preferences>Sound, click on the 'Input' tab, and make sure that the USB device is selected and is working properly.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro make background music and video quieter when I am on FaceTime?

Why does my MacBook Pro make background music and video quieter when I am on FaceTime? When my girlfriend and I are trying to watch a movie on Netflix together while on FaceTime my MacBook Pro always decreases the volume of any background sound on my computer so I can barely hear it. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you!

Have the same issue too. Apple can you please change this annoying feature. You are making long distance relationships more difficult.
I like how Facetime was with the old iOS, where nothing was dimmed. OR at least maybe if you could give users the option to turn on or off dimming of facetime.

  • External recording indication for voice over recording

    hi,
i'm wondering if there is any way to get recording indication for voice over recording out of final cut pro or soundtrack pro. i need to get the 'on air' signalization to the speaker room which is not the same as editing room.
    i'm looking for something like
    http://www.punchlight.com/?q=node/10
which i'm used to use with protools. does anybody have any idea?
    thanks for help

How about a switch you throw to turn on a recording light in the booth? I think less tech here is likely better.

  • Satellite A200-27R Integrated microphone for Voice over IP

The product description (see excerpt below) for a Satellite A200-27R states that the A200-27R has an Integrated microphone for Voice over IP. I have not been able to access this(e.g. with Skype, Live Messenger, Control Panel) nor is there any sign of it externally on the computer. The Control Panel > Sound > Recording tab says Microphone Realtek High Definition Audio not plugged in.
How do I set up and use the Integrated microphone for voice over IP?
Special features Enhanced Intel® SpeedStep® Technology
    SM BIOS compliant
    HD Audio support
    Microsoft® Windows® HotStart? for instant-on entertainment
Multimedia Bar with 6 Easy Keys (Internet Browser, CD/DVD launcher, Play/Pause, Stop, Rewind, Forward)
integrated microphone for Voice over IP

    Hi
The built-in microphone depends on the webcam.
As far as I know the Satellite A200-27R PSAE3E was not equipped with internal webcam and therefore the internal mic is not available.
Try to use an external headset with mic or only the single mic.

How are you trying to use this? Are you going to use this router as a CallManager express or in conjunction with CallManager server?
Can you provide a sh ver and sh run and a sh diag from your router? Do you have a design document of the set up that you have in mind?
Also please note that if you want to change the feature set of IOS that comes with the router, you need to purchase the software from Cisco, as you need to be able to upgrade to another IOS. This upgrade is not free.

  • Garage Band for voice over

  • Background Music Volume for imovie '08

So I've added background music to a few clips. I know how to mute the clip volume (so that you just hear the background music), and I know how to duck (so that you can adjust the clip volume louder or quieter than the background music), but how in the world do you actually lower the volume of the background music? I just can't figure it out.
    Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the tip. It seems to actually work a little different on iMovie '08 though. I just highlight the background music clip then bring up the audio adjustment window and adjust it with the top slider. I noticed on the apple website tutorial the inspector was at the top left like you mentioned, but that's not how it looks on the '08 version.
But then another thing that was messing me up was that I had added the music as a voiceover. Dragging the music file and placing it exactly between or over a clip makes it a voiceover which looks like a green bar below the video clip or clips. So first I had to delete that then grab the music file to the blank area at the right side of the video clip. This strangely put the music at the very beginning of the project, so I had to grab the top left corner of the beginning of the music clip then drag it to where in the project I wanted it. This apparently is called pinning the music. My project is going to be an hour long, so it seems like kind of a tedious thing to do to have to drag the music clip through the entire project to place it exactly where you want it. I'm sure there must be a better way to do this, but for now I'm just glad I figured out my mistake and how to set the background music volume.
Thanks again for the advice though.

  • Sound capture hardware/software for voice over work

Sorry if this is a little off topic,
    Environment: Production Premium CS3 (Windows)
I'm doing voice over audio capture for web videos. Currently, I use Soundbooth or the sound card software (Creative Labs) to capture.
    1. What is the best mic setup? I use a $30 headset boom mic. Is there a better way? I would rather record clean than spend time trying to clean up the audio. Any links to tutorials on setting up an audio studio?
    2. Should I use Soundbooth to capture?
    thanks for any ideas,
    fred

I use a $50 headset. I use Sb to capture VO audio. I also use Sb to clean up the audio.
If your room is fairly quiet or if the background noise is constant, then you can clean up the audio in Sb quickly. No need to go to the expense and trouble of creating a studio.
The trick is to capture 15-30 seconds (sometimes you can get away with less) of "silence" in the room so that you can use it as a noise print for the NR tool in Sb.
I've had good success using about 75%-80% for the amount of reduction.

  • Which compressor Type is the Best for Voice over recordings?

The compressor Plug in in sdtr pro has a vca, platinum, opto etc
Which One is the Best for male Voice overs?
I don't Know the differences opto, platinum, opto....

Opto, VCA, and FET refer to models of different analog circuitry that accomplishes compression in different ways.
Not positive, but I think "platinum" is not really a model, but the plug's own compression scheme.
When I worked at an audio post facility, we had hardware UA 1176 compressors, which are FET compressors. They sounded pretty fantastic, but that's not saying that the model in the plugin will sound that way.
Here's a nice discussion of the different types:
    http://www.barryrudolph.com/mix/comp.html
Scroll down to the salmon background sidebar.
Ultimately, it's really best to try the different models out and see which sounds best on your material. Let your ears be the judge.
    Good luck!

  • Recommended microphones for Voice Over use

I have tried plugging in my Sony wireless microphone, and also a shotgun mic into the line in port, but with no success. The mics aren't being recognised by Final Cut.
Can anyone advise me what I am doing wrong, or recommend a different microphone that I should be using?
    Thanks

G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   4.5GB of Ram Quadro FX 4500 graphics card

There are a number of places to check to ensure the system is accepting audio from the Line In port.
    1. In the Voice Over tool, look in the middle of the window and SOURCE to Built-in Audio and set INPUT to Line In.
    2. In: the Blue Apple on the menu bar>System Preferences>Audio - make sure you have set the imput to Line In
    3. In Utilities> Audio Midi Setup>Audio Devices - make sure you have the Default Imput set for the line in port on your mac.
It has been noted by many people that the files brought in this way (through VO) often need serious gain added (aka - they are very quiet and the volume needs to be increased). A mic pre-amp is a good idea. Otherwise, you can either bump the gain in FCP or use an external audio app (i use peak) to bring it up to desired levels.
    good luck,

  • GarageBand for voice-overs/production

Hi all. I currently use ProTools to do voice-over work and audio production at home, and I'm just curious as to how well GarageBand measures up in this area. ProTools is fine, but keeping up with the upgrades and new plug-ins gets expensive...and annoying. I'm wondering if I can achieve the same results with GarageBand, and make my life a little easier. I'd love to get thoughts from anyone who uses it in a professional capacity.
    iMac 5.1   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Good to know , but I'm curious to hear in what capacity people use GarageBand. Unless of course no one reading this uses it for work related projects. Either way, I'll be playing around with it to see how well it measures up.
    Thanks!
