CS5 Missing text descriptions using insertion pointer

Only when using CS5.
When I move the inserton pointer (hand with finger extended) to any tool or icon the yellow rectangular text box appears but it is either empty or contains the garbled first portion of the tool/icon name. When text does appear it will only be the first word or two (like icon title), larger font then normal Windows size, at a 45 degree angle and bold appearing.
The problem just occured this morning. I recently installed both CS5 and Lightroom 3. I am in the process of setting up workspaces and use two monitors. The images are always on the primary monitor and for CS5/Bridge the tools and other panels are on the secondary monitor. I have restarted etc, looked for a preference change and tried several differtent applications including LR3. In all other applications the text description displays accurately.
To my recollection I did not change any Preferences except color space and 'Efficency' as opposed to image size. I wonder if something did not carry over during the process of setting up the workspaces for each monitor. I had Bridge open, worked with Camer Raw 6.3 then saved an image as Tif. I noticed the problem when I opened the Tif version in CS5.
It seems the problem resides in CS5 since neither Bridge, LR3 nor 'native' Windows are affected.

Thanks for your note but it’s still a skinny rod that seems to disappear. Why can’t it become a little thicker so it doesn’t disappear no matter what size I have set the screen? My poor old eyes aren’t what they used to be. I do appreciate your answering and I’ll enlarge the screen so the blankety-blankety blinking rod is at least visible. Nancy

Cursor size is governed by the type size and will be be larger or smaller on screen depending on how close you are zoomed in.

Find text from current insertion point - indesign cs3 javascript

I need to find the text from the insertion point in CS3 document through javascipt. Built in indesign has this feature. I want to do this in my script.

If i use the mySearch[i].contents sometimes it doesn't give the correct result. Since, if gives if other than the case name ends with , and digits. It makes the result totally wrong.

Missing Text when using CONVERT to PDF

I am using Acrobat Pro 9 in Wnidows 7 and Microsoft Publisher 2003.
When I use the CONVERT command to create a PDF - it is missing all of the text on the master page.
If I create the PDF with the PRINT command - everything is OK.
PS: The same Publisher File on another computer using Acrobat Pro 8 works fine - CONVERT or PRINT and no missing text
I prefer to use convert because sometimes the PRINT command drops some of the hyperlinks.

Psc 1315 all-in-one.missing text when using scanning window

hello everyone, i am new to all this forum stuff...i have a psc hp 1315 all-in-one printer..it works fine when i print a document THROUGH my pc, as the computer automatically aligns the page...but when i place a document on the viewing window under the lid, and push the relevant button/s ON the printer,manually, it comes out with about an inch of the text at the bottom, missing, and about the same vertically down the right side....
i have tried the troubleshooting/help pages, on the hp website,+ the printers user manual, but no joy...i am no expert on printers so i don't want to do anything major,until i have sought proper advice....i hope i have been specific enough

What program are you printing from? It would appear your are printing in graphics mode (rather then black text) and that your printer is running out of cyan ink.

Selecting text from insertion point

I want to select all of the text from the insertion point to the end of the file. The instructions I can find for this say to shift-click. I insert the cursor in the text and hold down the shift key and click, and nothing happens. Any suggestions?

You must shift+click at the position you want to select to. If your cursor is here | and you shift+click here ->, everything from "and" to "here" is selected. So to select from your current position up to the end of a story, set your cursor to the start, scroll to the last visible character of that story (it only works with one continuous story, in multiple connected text frames) and shift+click there. The end of the current story is marked by a # -- visible with "Show Invisible Characters".
It's easier to use the keyboard for this particular task. Cmd (or Ctrl) + End moves the cursor to the end of the current story, even if it's not visible on screen! (If that's the case, the last text frame has a bright red + on its lower right.) To select from the current position to the end, hold down Shift as well.
These are the usual mouse operations and keystrokes for selecting text in any text editing app I could think of, on both Windows and Mac.

IT 1008 tab is missing text in PPOME tcode.

Hello Experts,
We have added Infotype 1008 as tab page in PPOME. While viewing the tab page it shows up the input fields but once the values are entered the text description of inserted value does not show up.
The IT 1008 uses programme MP100800 and Screen 7000.

Is there a solution to PDFs missing text?

Hi there,
I've been having a problem with PDFs generated from documents created in Frame 9 missing random blocks of text. From reading the forum, I see that this is a well known issue. I've tried both the MS hotfix and deleting the fntcache.dat file. Deleting the fntcache.dat file is the only thing that has worked. Has anyone else run the hotfix without any positive results? Am I doomed to deleting fntcache each time I want to create a PDF?
Any insight is much appreciated. Thanks!

Well, the known bug with many of these fonts is: text is displayed with the TimesNewRoman font. I didn't have missing text blocks using them, and I'm not aware of anybody else who has.
The MS patch should definitely work. It does work here on all machines (all running Windows XP Pro SP2(!)). I know of some other font related problems with XP SP3.
If it still doesn't work: deleting the fntcache.dat is not necessary for each PDF, it's necessary once a day. The daily procedure in this case is:
- Start your PC
- Delete the fntcache.dat
- Reboot
Now PDF creation works as expected, until you reboot again. If you have to do this for whatever reason, delete the fntcache.dat again before rebooting.

Any description on how to use the Text Editor used for this Forum?

I am very frustrated when trying to use the text Editing functions (without use of HTML, that I do not undertstand) that can be used to create Posts in this Forum .

Based on your answer, I guess and fear, that there exist no "user guide" for this Text Editor.
I will wait a little bit more to see whether I get more information/answers. If not, i will probably write a "Feature Request" to request that Adobe provides us or point us to a reasonable User-Guide for this Text Editor.

What's the gesture to get a text insertion point in iOS 7 Keynote?

I was editing a new presentation. I find I have to tap repeatedly to edit an existing text area so I can get a simple insertion point and not a word selection or selecting the entire area or starting a re-positioning of the area. I have yet to figure out what Apple wants me to do so I can accomplish this.
I can often get an insertion point after scrabbling away with taps, multiple taps, holds, short drags, and multiple-touch variants, but by the time I do, the sequence is too involved to remember, and who knows how many steps back I'd have to go to identify the start of the gesture?
And, see another question I just posted: In the course of clawing away at the slide, the entire deck scaled down to half size. So not only does this bug make it hard to get any work done, it seems to be destructive. (WAIT. Found it. My scrabbling turned out to include an ordinary pinch-to-zoom gesture. Never mind. I'll amend my other question.)
I give up. I've used up all my guesses and I want to know the answer to the riddle. How do I get a between-characters insertion point in an object containing text, but not currently open?

I think to place the insertion point you tap and hold until the magnifying loop shows up, then you let go when the cursor is where you want it.

In AS01 - Depreciation Area text description is missing - Please help!!!!

We are encountering a wierd issue in SAP which we are unable to resolve.
When executing transaction AS01 to create an asset, under the Deprec. Areas tab, the Depreciation Area text description is missing. The areas are all there but only the text description is missing   This is only missing when logged in SAP using Portuguese language, All other languages have descriptions available.
We ensured that we loaded descriptions while logged in SAP using Portuguese language. So while logged in under the Portuguese language, The descriptions for dep. areas where loaded using SPRO under "Define Depreciation Areas" IMG task.

Haha I figured it out. I just gave up to easily.
I did not populate the short description for Depriciation Areas.   It the short text field which was driving all the other descrption fields in SAP tcode transactions like AS01.

I also have a .csv file with the name of a jpeg in one column and a text description of each jpeg in a second column. Is there a way to automatically insert one jpeg (photo) and its corresponding text, each pair on one page, into a Indesign document?

I would also recommend to write the description into the meta data. This would allow to place a text frame above the image and it is possible to add meta information and file name automatically together with the image, when you place it or even in a prepared template.
Meta data information can be written easily in Bridge in the Meta File Workspace.

Using cue points to change a text box

Ok I asked a simlar question before but I am still having trouble getting it to work.
I have a video with 11 Cue points and at each cuepint I want the Typebox to change it text at each cue point.
When the video is playing I want a the textbox to change the text when cue point 1 is reached. This is the code I am using. But every always goes straight to the whatever the last functions text and skips all the other before it. Its bassically this code repeated with difffernt function name and string.

As for data? This is all I know about my CuePoints
Would the best way to acheive changing type is to change the way my movie clips are set up? Instead of telling it within the actionscript maybe telling it to go to next frame within a movieclip with the content? I don't know exactly how to word what I am trying to acheive but I'm trying!

Missing text in PDF when I use Acrobat 9.2 and FM 9

I was able to PDF ok from FM9 using Acrobat 6, but when I upgraded to Acrobat 9.2,
I'm getting some missing text in the PDF. Some non-bold text is missing. The number
for Chapter 3 is missing in the TOC. Any suggestions?

What font name, format (TTF, PFB/PFM, OTF?) and vintage?
Did you upgrade the fonts when upgrading the apps?
Any chance you have multiple copies of the same typeface name installed? Historically, having both the TTF and PFM (Type 1) of the same name installed could have undesired results.

What is "some text"? Some entire typefaces (all text thereof), or just some characters of a typeface, like, say, the ligatures in Helvetica.
The number for Chapter 3 is missing in the TOC.
What font is Frame looking for?
Also, are you embedding the fonts during PDF creation?

Using Create PDF from Web Page; Resulting PDF is missing text

Trying to create pdf's from various web pages. Generally process works very well but some pages have missing text and bad formatting.   Specifically; http://www.robinhood.ca/Recipes/Occasions/Spring/Apricot-Tartlets
When I create the PDF; I am missing the text under "directions" and the description is truncated and forced to the far right.
Seems like I am missing a formatting or font setting but I have adjusted everything I can think of and have had no luck.
Running Acrobat Pro XI.

yes; looking at the source; seems that <table> is being captured correctly but the part that is missing is a <div>.    I'm not an expert at deciphering the page source but seems like that is the problem.
Is there a work around?
when I print via the firefox plugin it prints fine. but i ultimately want to capture several layers on the site if I can get the formatting resolved.
