CS5 Move dialog box angles

I've been using ai for many years. As far back as I can remember if you select an item and have either of the arrow tools as your current tool, hit the return key or double click either arrow tool you get the move dialog box. Everything in CS5 seems to be working the same until I try to move something up or down. I've always used positive numbers to move up and negative to move down. Now it's the opposite in CS5 (I don't know about CS4 since I've never purchased that upgrade). If I change the angle at the bottom of the box from 90° to -90° it works the way I'm used to, but the angle doesn't stick. Does/has anyone run into this and found out why or how to fix it? It doesn't seem to matter where I put the ruler zero at.
Adobe Illustrator CS5
Mac OSX 10.6.3

Fruit,
I think the Illustrator team was really listening to its users, who for  many many years have been shouting from the rooftops to change the Ruler  origin (0,0) to Top Left of the artboard.
I am not sure about the rooftops; maybe we shall see answers tt that here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2857555#2857555
Illustrator had been the  exception to this rule (with its ruler origin at bottom left) when  compared to other Adobe products like Photoshop & InDesign which had  their ruler origin at the top left.
... and are all inherently (apart from PS) based on the conventions of Western writing:
and Illy was not but is now an exception when compared with corresponding applications such as FH, Draw, Canvas, Xtreme.
Agreed that some users will find the change not to their liking but that is how it works - no company can satisfy all its users all the time.
They, could by making it optional. Still, as shown in post #4, it is doable.

  • CS6 "move" dialog box issue

What is the secret to getting the "move" dialog box in AI CS6 to move objects the distance and direction entered in the box?

It's a group of vector polygons, with effects attached. I think rulers, transformation center, and preferences are similar to defaults. I'm not a skilled enough user to change much. I like inches, so I changed that. But otherwise, it's fairly bland. How do you reset the preferences?
I should also have mentioned that I'm using the 30-day trial version of Illustrator.
Just now, I opened up a new file, created a single rectangle, and was able to reproduce the problem. You can download the file through this link: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0Hoxcl5zTEtT1dvR0RjMkFyRTQ/edit?usp=sharing
    Recipe for problem:
    - Open file
    - Left click the black rectangle.
    - Right click the rectangle, choose tansform->move
    - Tab. Tab. 1. Tab. 30. Tab. (note that h/v boxes fail to update, and remain 0)
    - Click preview
    Nothing happens.
It seems to me that if you enter values in the horizontal and vertical boxes, the distance/direction boxes update appropriately, and the move works fine. However, if you enter values in the distance/direction boxes, the horizontal and vertical boxes generally do not update at all, then sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes, the first set of distance/direction numbers work fine, but if you leave the move box open, then change those numbers, the h/v boxes then fail to update, and clicking preview just causes the object to move as for the previous settings, or to not move at all.

  • Saving Photoshop CS5 Print dialog box presets or defaults?

This question was asked in 2008 for PS CS3 with no answer, so I will ask it again...
    OS 10.6.4
Using Canon iPF 5100 and 6100 printers
    CS 5 Photoshop
Is there a way to set a preset in the PS Print dialog window for 'Photoshop manages color' and the ICC profile so that I do not have to reset them every time I print?
Also, where does PS pull the information for the printers pop-up menu near the top of the Print dialog box? Is this a preset or is it just pulling these printer names from the OS? I ask this because when I switch between one of the iPF printers, the Print > Color Management section defaults back to 'Printer Manages Color' and greys out the profile pop-up menu.
    Thanks.

No, no presets but you can record the settings in an action. The action can record printer, printer settings and color management settings.

  • Illustrator CS5-symbols dialog box opens every time I try to work in Illustrator and won't cancel.

I've never had this problem before, but the symbols dialog box just randomly pops up and I hit cancel and it comes right back.  I tried hitting create to see what happens and it just comes right back. I can't close Illustrator I can't do anything else so I end up doing ctrl, alt, delete to end the task. I can't get any work done and I'm pulling my hair out over this.  I have looked all over the web for help and found nothing that touches on this problem.

Reinstall the program and trash the prefs.

  • PS CS5 messes up menu bar; dialog boxes distort during drag; etc

I'm having weird problems with Photoshop CS5.  I'd love help, or even tips for how to frame the question when searching for help.
    Here are the symptoms:
    - After starting PS, if I open any dialog box and then close it, after closing the PS menu bar is corrupted -- it looks like a single row of pixels is missing through the File, Edit, Image, etc words, and at the right end of the menu bar, the three control icons are overlain with Windows control icons.  Both these problems can be seen in the screen capture image below.
    - When a dialog box is open, if I drag it around, it gets clipped as repainting tries to keep up with the mouse.  It's always rectangular, but edges flicker off to varying depths as it repaints to move.  When the mouse stops, the repaint works and it looks fine.  While moving, the faster the movement, the worse the effect.
    - When using tools such as Lasso select, the movement feedback (the selection gray line) lags a few millimeters or more, depending on speed.
To me it looks like an application + video driver problem, but all s/w is up to date.  Messing with OpenGL setting (Edit->Preferences) doesn't affect things; it acts the same with OpenGL on or off, basic, normal, or advanced.  My video card is displayed correctly in the Edit->Preference: Performance box.
The first problem (menu bar corruption) is obviously least interfering and I believe has been with me longest.  The latter two problems make PS somewhat difficult to use, and I believe showed up in the last few months (since the last time I used PS intensively, about 8 months ago).  I can't recall for sure, but I think I installed updates to both PS and ATI drivers in the last 8 months (ie., so both could be suspects).
Any ideas what is wrong, or what to search for?  What would be a good search query for this sort of problem set?
Does this seem to be an Adobe problem, or ATI, or who?
    Here's my set-up:
    - Dell Inspiron 580 with 6 GB RAM
    - ATI Radeon HD 5450
    - Windows 7 64-bit
    - PS CS5 standard edition
    Thanks for help and/or ideas!

I don't know about pre-packaged themes, but what I do is along these lines:
    Minimize Chrome on the Desktop
If you have a sharp monitor, good eyes, and don't like that Microsoft has made all the useless chrome and border space around everything larger in the later versions of Windows, you'll likely want to minimize it to make more room to do real work...
    ·    Right-click on Desktop - Personalize, ensure the Windows 7 Aero theme is selected
    ·    Choose Window Color – Advanced appearance settings...
    ·    Active Title Bar item to size 17.
    ·    Menu item to Size 15, font Segoe UI size 8.
    ·    Border Padding item to size 0.
    ·    Scroll Bar item to size 16.
    ·    Caption Buttons item to size 16.
    ·    Icon Spacing (Horizontal) item to size 27.
    ·    Icon Spacing (Vertical) item to size 41.
You can experiment with these settings to find a balance you like.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I get a Distiller dialog box in Illustrator CS5 which is exactly the same as Distiller?

I would like to know if there is some type of plug-in, etc. out there that would allow me to have all the functionality of a Distiller dialog box when I save a PDF out of Illustrator CS5. Right now, I just have what comes installed with Illustrator. It's a stripped down version of what you would find in distiller.

When you save a PDF out of Distiller it doesn't just have different options, it's an entirely different program. It doesn't do things the same way, so it can't have the same options. Saving from Distiller is in many ways better, expecially in that transparency isn't flattened.
What specific options are you looking for?

  • When I right click on a link to open in new tab and move my cursor into the dialog box the box dissapears this is new in the last 24 hours.

I'm using Firefox 8.0 on Suse 11.4 today is 11/28/11 the past 24 hours I've been experiencing this: I always try to right click on links and open in new tab, lately when I do so and move the cursor into the dialog box the box disappears. Also if I online shop say for clothing, if I want to change size's when I click the button to do so nothing happens when I want to scroll down and pick a different size, (I can hi-light the size and click on it then when the window scrolls back up the default size is still there. This isn't consistent with all web sites.

You can middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • InDesign CS5 crashes when trying to export a PDF and/or a Warning dialog box appears!

Just bought a new macbook pro 15" non retina the other day and the SAME version of InDesign CS5 that was running on my 2010 iMac is now crashing each time I get a Warning dialog box and/or try exporting a PDF?!??!?! How was this NOT an issue before and now is??? Running the same Lion 10.7.4 as well....
Holding the alt key while deleting a page does help it not prompt the warning dialog box, but no help to exporting a pdf...
So guessing this is a Apple issue and we need an update or??
I am only using Fontbook and have NOT even added any new fonts yet, practically bare bones mac still with just CS5...
What is also weird is that the warning dialog boxes are always BLANK and have no text on them, like there is a font issue??
I've cleared the system font cache, reset InDesign prefs, reset PRAM and NVRAM, re-installed InDesign and updated to 7.0.4...
This is madness....please help me in the name of all that is good.
    Crash:

    figured it out:
    - power off mac and turn back on while holding down Command + R (dont do it on an external keyboard just to be safe)
    - choose the re-install Lion option (I'm sure there is another way to re-install Lion, this is just the way I did it, not saying its the best or only method)
    - DO NOT INSTALL MACBOOK (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0 - THIS SCREWS ADOBE UP!

  • Move, delete, or rename files in Open or Save As Dialog box

I want to be able to rename, delete or move a file when I am in an Open or Save As dialog box. Sometimes when I am opening a file or saving a new file I spot an existing file that needs to be renamed, moved to a folder or even deleted. In Windows I would just take care of that file and then keep going with what I was doing in the first place. This doesn't seem to work in Mac OSX. I have to stop, go to a Finder window, go to the location, do what I want to do to the file and then go back to the Open or Save As dialog box. There's go to be a better way in the "world's most advanced operating system." Ideas?

  • CS5.5/OS X 10.8: Open/Save As dialog box resizing

Since I have been using CS5.5 Web Design Premium in Mountain Lion, I cannot get the programs to remember me resizing the Open and Save As dialog boxes.
Each time I Open or Save As, the windows default to about 720 x 540, which is annoyingly small on a 1920 x 1200 screen.
In each programs' .plist file, located at /Users/(username)/Library/Preferences/, there are two keys:
    NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForOpenMode:GetFile
    NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode:PutFile
After trying to resize the windows, I  QuickLook these .plist files.  The values for these key-value pairs are
    1)  sporadically updated and subsequently ignored on program close/relaunch, or
    2)  not updated at all.
Have noticed this problem in DW, FW, AI, and FL.  PS seems to be the only exception.
Adobe products are the only programs on my Mac that exhibit this problem.
Mac OS is up to date. (10.8.3 as of date of post)
All aforementioned Adobe programs are up to date according to the Adobe Application Manager.
The preferences folder and the specific .plist files contained therein are read/writeable by me, the administrator.
Rebuilding the .plist file does not help.
Rebuilding the Saved Application State folder for the program does not help.
Other miscellaneous things (resizing Finder columns, showing/rehiding hidden files, maximizing/restoring the window) don't help either.
Can any community members who have experienced this problem suggest any fixes?

I think this is an OS X 10.8 thing rather than a CS5.5/OS X 10.8 thing – but I would really like a fix for this too, nnotnorth

  • Adobe CS5 Applications open/save dialog boxes size always resets

So, since the Mountain Lion update, all of my Adobe CS5 save/open window dialog boxes reset their size each time. In my case they are too small, causing me to have to enlarge the window out every time, to be able to see file names/locations etc.
Not a massive issue, but rather annoying when I think of the time I'm wasting resizing windows hundreds of times a day, especially as this never used to happen.
    Is this an Adobe issue?
Can anyone using Adobe CS6 on Mountain Lion tell me if they experience this too?
Anyone on using Adobe CS5 on OSX-10.8.2 experienced this too, any suggestions?

I came here looking for this very same help.  It is driving me crazy.  It happened when I recently updated to Mountain Lion.  It has to be a Mountain Lion problem, as I'm using the very same Adobe products that I've used for years and it never occurred before.
I'm also having the problem with Mountain Lion resizing my coverflow finder windows every time I open them.  Also completely annoying.
How do I get the windows (saving and coverflow) to stay in the same position as I last had them versus resetting to some default position every time I open them or click on a new file?  Very annoying.

  • Photoshop CS5 crashes when selecting print settings in print dialog box

I work on a Mac Pro desktop with OS 10.6.4. Photoshop CS5 crashes every time I try to select "print settings" in the print dialog box. I work in a large office and our networked color printer is a Konica Minolta bizhub C451. In fact, if I hit "print" it will crash whether or not I hit "print settings" first. In CS4, there was a separate menu item that allowed you to change printer settings before going into the print dialog box. That choice is gone now, you have to select it through the print dialog box.
This is the only way I can print out color proofs for my clients. Unfortunately, I do not have administrator rights to any printer (our office has about 100 people, only IT staff can fiddle with that). What can I do to get this solved?

I think I have fixed it, though I'm not sure why this worked.
System Preferences>Print & Fax. Selected the Konica Minolta printer (the B/W printer was working fine). Changed the name. Still didn't fix it. Went back selected my newly named Konica Minolta then "Open Print Queue" (like Dave said)>print settings. Change the driver to "Generic Postscript printer." I could print, but only on letter-size paper, no other options available (need tabloid). Went back to system preferences>print & fax>Konica Minolta2>open print queue>drivers then I reselected the updated printer drivers--the same one that hasn't been working.
    Now, it works.
Thanks all for the helpful advice!

  • Dialog box size when saving a postscript file CS5 is huge.

When i save a postscript file, the dialog box that allows me no navigate to the place I wish to save my file is huge. About 10 inches wide and 3 inches high.
I have tried to resize this box, expecting that the last used dimensions would be remembered the next time I entered this box but I get the same huge overly wide and not deep enough box.
I hate resizing this box so I can see my sidebar. This never happened in CS3. CS3 honored the box as I sized it every time I saved.
    What is wrong with CS5?
Where do I change this behavior.

Replacing preferences did not help. System updates did not resolve this behavior.
The other behavior I hate is when I open a document the application window enlarges to the maximum area on my monitor. The application window occupies the left edge to the dock on the right, just below the menu bar at top to the very bottom edge of the monitor.
Most other applications remember what the last window size of a document was when I saved and closed it.
What I end up doing EVERY TIME I OPEN A FILE is shortening the window on the right and bottom so I do not have my tool windows covering my document. I like Static tools, not auto hide.
As long as I am griping I'd like to know how to turn off the auto resize of the document view when I enlarge or reduce my window. I want the document to remain a constant size UNTIL I DECIDE to resize it.
