CS5 no longer opens in 32bit mode.

I ran MacKeeper the onter day and it actually fixed all my woes, however, when I went to open Photoshop, it only opens in 64bit mode.  Could be a coinsidence.
I quadroople checked that it is selected to open in 32bit mode in the "Get info" window and re-booted many times, but I can't get Photoshop to open in 32bit mode.
I was hoping that there is something I am missing before I have to reinstall.
Thanks for the help, if there is any to be had!

I have heard via private message from an old acquaintance, Ramón Castañeda, that MacKeeper (possibly AKA Mac Defender) may be a form of malware, and he suggests visiting the following links:

  • Configuring Photoshop CS5 to open in 32bit by default for multiple users

I've set up a lab with Photoshop CS5 installed on 60 macs which will be logged on by 1200 domain users and I need Photoshop to open in 32bit mode as default for each user so it will be compatible with our printer. Rather than having to administer PS manually to 32 bit for each user, would I be right in thinking I could create one copy of the Photoshop app set to open in 32bit mode and then copy it to all the other macs to replace the original 64bit configured versions so they would all open in 32bit by default for all users?
Anyone know if this might work or if there is an alternative way?
    Thanks for any advice

I was off the mark with this but found the solution. I was informed the preference file to launch in 32 or 64 bit mode is the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist which resides in the user preferences folder. So by configuring the Photoshop app via 'Get Info' to 32bit and copying this out to another users prefs folder then PS opens in 32 bit for that user as well. To get this to work for all users on login I created an automator workflow and dropped it in the App folder of every mac and this is triggered by running it as a login-in items in the computer group in workgroup Manager.

  • Using PListBuddy to open Safari in 32bit mode

    Hi everyone,
We've just done an upgrade to Safari 5.1 here and some webapps at the company do not function with Safari in 64bit mode. I know I can use PListBuddy to edit the com.apple.launchservices.plist to set Safari to open in 32bit mode for each user, but I'm having trouble with the command. So far I have this: /usr/libexec/PListBuddy -c "LSArchitecturesForX86_64 i386" ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.launchservices.plist, but it gives me the error "Print: Entry, "ArchitecturesForX86_64", Does Not Exist"
It looks like there is another key in the file "com.apple.Safari" that I can't seem to reference with PListBuddy.
    Any help is much appreciated
    TIA,
    Andrew

Maybe we're not talking about the same thing here:
I need to edit this key in com.apple.launchservices.plist:
    <key>LSArchitecturesForX86_64</key>
              <dict>
                        <key>com.apple.Safari</key>
                        <array>
                                  <data>
                                  AAAAAACSAAMAAQAAxe6HnQAASCsAAAAAAE8RzwBR9QUAAMY7hBkA
                                  AAAACSD//gAAAAAAAAAA/////wABAAQATxHPAA4AFgAKAFMAYQBm
                                  AGEAcgBpAC4AYQBwAHAADwAMAAUATQBhAGMASABEABIAF0FwcGxp
                                  Y2F0aW9ucy9TYWZhcmkuYXBwAAATAAEvAP//AAA=
                                  </data>
                                  <string>X86_64</string>
                        </array>
              </dict>
I need that bolded <string> to read <string>i386</string>. I need to do this for every user account on every mac in the company. I cannot use a GUI tool to do this, otherwise I wouldn't even have posted and just used PLE in the first place. Well I could, but I doubt they'd pay for all that OT
I'm having trouble using PListBuddy and defaults to do this. Added difficulty comes in since it seems this key does not even appear in the plist until Safari is manually set to 32bit mode.... So I need to first check for the existence of this key, and if not present, add it with the i386 string.
I am avoiding overwriting the entire user plist with an edited plist for the i386 specification because I've looked into these files on several user accounts and they have different entries from eachother. I do not want to overwrite these entries, just add/edit this particular key.

  • Lightroom 32bit mode for 32bit DNG files

When I open 32bit (floating point) TIFF files in Lightroom (5.7.1) it opens them as expected - in 32bit mode - and allows me to adjust the exposure slider in the range of -10ev to +10ev.
However, when I open 32bit (floating point) DNG files, it opens them in 16bit mode and allows the exposure slider to range only from -5ev to +5ev.
Does anyone know why it works this way?
Is there a way to open 32bit DNG files in 32bit mode?
    Note that a 32bit DNG file can be converted to 32bit TIFF using "dng_validate.exe -3 <output.tif> <input.dng>"
This way I can convert my 32bit DNG files to TIFF, but I lose the control over WB and I end up with huge TIFF files.
I'm obtaining my 32bit DNG files using HDRMerge. This can be used as a reference:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21642925/PC211276-211280.dng
I also tried 32bit DNGs that were created by CeroNoice and I get the same result (LR opens them in 16bit mode rather than 32bit and restricts the exposure slider to -5ev - +5ev).
It could be that HDRMerge or CeroNoice do not produce the DNG correctly. However, I tried to run the output of HDRMerge through a DNG to DNG conversion using Adobe DNG Converter and it didn't help either.

Thanks for taking a look at this.
I think that converting 32bit tiff files to dng only changes the wrapping. So in a way it's understandable that they are opened in 32bit mode. I still don't understand why normal 32bit dng files can't.
Thanks for the top about the GND filter. I thought about using a brush all over the frame, but a GND can also be used. I suspect that if LR opens my dng file in 16bit mode than it uses a narrower pipeline for the tone curve and color manipulation so the result will be inferior compared to  a 32bit tiff file (developed with the same settings). That's why I'm trying to find a way to open the dng files directly in 32bit mode.

  • Every time I open Reader XI I get a box that pops up and says "Cannot open in protected mode due to

    incompatible system configuration"

    Hi sdc01522,
Please help me in understanding your problem better as on normal Win7 machines we don't get these issues.
Can you please let me know the following:
    1) Exact operating system like Win7 or WinXP or Win8 (32bit or 64 bit) (Home, Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate) (Goto Computer , right click and you'll see the details in Windows Edition and system)
    2) Any antivirus/ antimalware/ encryption software installed in your system? (It might be stopping Adobe Reader to open with protected mode enabled)
    3) Are you login with any specific kind of user or normal administrator user ?
    4) Is your system a part of any special file system?
    5) Have you installed Adobe Reader at the default location (For 32-bit systems it is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0 and 64-bit it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0 ) or any other location?
    Thanks,

  • Why can i no longer open more one page at a time

I can no longer open more than on site at a time. One of the main things i like about fire fox is the ability to work with several windows open, which i do in my online marketing.
Now if i click on another site it overrides the page i am on.
I.E. When in my email account and i click on a url in a message it does not open a new window. Then , when i leave that page and go back to my email, i must log back in

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
Also make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode

  • Firefox will no longer open completely. My home page appears, but I can't do anything with it. See "details" box for full description.

Firefox will no longer open completely. My home page appears, but I can't do anything with it--can't use "Help," can't search the Web, can't even use "Sign Out." I have to close it entirely to get out of it. A box comes up and says "Yahoo Mail is loading especially slowly" and tells me my computer speed is slow. But this is the same computer I've always used for Firefox, and Yahoo comes up quickly and completey through Internet Explorer (which is how I'm sending this message). Can anyone help me load Firefox so that it works? I even downloaded the latest version of Firefox, but it makes no difference. Thanks.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 15.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
You can also try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that works.

  • Can no longer open a project - and crash report readers out there??

    Hello there,
I've been working on a project for a couple of months and just completed phase one yesterday, sent it to Encore and produced a bunch of DVDs. Now, I can no longer open the project. It crashes every time, as do the auto save copies and back up copies. I'd have to go back to a very old copy, which works - they work if I go back far enough - and do a lot of restructuring.
Is there someone who can read a crash report for you to try and determine the problem?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Jessica Vecchione
    ps. Happy New Year!

Thanks so much for all your help. This software and hardware is so complex and sophisticated  it's hard to understand every facet of it.
    My system is:
    PC, Windows 7 Professional
    Intel i7 processor, 3.07 ghz
    12 gigs ram
3 - 2 tera hard drives, all raid 0. (I use them to segment clients, none are full. The one in question is 1/3 full)
I just installed the Nvidia Quadro 4000 graphics card thinking I would upgrade to CS5, but there have been so many kinks that I'm in no hurry to do that.
I'm current on all Windows, Adobe, Nvidia updates and have Direct X 11
I'm using Premiere CS4, After Effects CS4 etc.
    Plugins:
    Prodad - Vitascene, Mercali, Heroglyph
New Blue Video filters and Transitions
    Pixelan
and just recently Red Giant Looks
I've been using Prodad for 3 years and since I got the new card, Vitascene won't work. It tells me my graphics card isn't powerful enough and that I don't have direct X. Prodad is insisting that it's my problem. The other Prodad plugins work fine.
I had used a lot of the Prodad filters on this particular project, and in the middle of it, I switched cards and although I cannot now use Vitascene, the filters I had added to this project previously work! As long as I make no changes to the clips, (ie, change a tranistion etc.) the filter will continue to work. I figured I'd coast through this way, and am not using Vitascene on any new projects. (I have a ton of old projects that are loaded with Vitascene effects. I hope I'll never have to go back to them.)
So, I can't help feeling like Vitascene is part of the problem.
Today, I uninstalled Vitascene, and Looks (which I bought and installed yesterday - right about when I could no longer open this project). Nothing worked.
I had backed up yesterday afternoon, and the project will not open on another computer from the BU disc.
If I go back to a version from about a month ago, I can open it and I'll be able to recreate things from there, but I'm terrified of this happening again.
So, I have all this great technology, and for the most part, I get things to work fine, but I don't have a real depth of understanding of how these things work and interact. And, I wish I could gain more knowledge, but I'm not even sure where to start. Any clues you all can give me are greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Jessica

  • Hi, I'm an eBay seller and save old eBay auction files to my hard drive for future refence. Firefox no longer opens these files correctly (see below).

Hi, I'm an eBay seller and save old eBay auction files to my hard drive for future refence. These files which all use the same name but are saved in a different folder for each eBay auction no longer open correctly -- much of the eBay auction text information shows up for a split second and then disappears -- the area at the top of the saved eBay auction file then collapses -- the original eBay auction photo of the product shows up as well during that split second but disappears when the other auction text disappears. These eBay auction files open correctly when opened using Internet Explorer. In Firefox, Firefox adds some strange information at the end of the file name when it is opened which is not a part of the actual file name itself (i.e. here is the original file name which is the same for whatever ended eBay auction I open: eBayISAPI.dll.htm -- here is the altered file name after Firefox opens it: eBayISAPI.dll_files/eBayISAPI_data/eBayISAPI_002.htm#ht_658wt_1349 -- yes, it is that long -- the last part is slightly different for each separate auction file that I open). None of this happened until recently. The files open this way whether using Firefox 4.0, Firefox 3.6.16, Firefox Safe Mode 3.6.16, and Firefox Safe Mode 4.0.

    Here is what I did:
    1) In Firefox 4.0, I opened the Bookmarks on the Menu Bar at the top of the screen. I clicked on the Import and Backup menu. I then exported all my bookmarks to the PC's desktop using the default file name BOOKMARKS.HTML.
    2) In Firefox, I opened the Add-ons menu under Tools on the Menu Bar. I clicked on the Prnt Scrn key on the top right of the PC's keyboard in order to obtain a screen shot of all the Firefox add-ons. I then opened Microsoft Word and pasted the screen shot using the Control V command (Ctrl V). I then saved the Microsoft Word file on the PC's desktop for future reference.
    3) I then opened the Control Panel in the Start menu (accessed from the little Windows world globe on the bottom left of the screen -- the operating system is Windows 7).
    4) In the Control Panel, I opened Uninstall A Program in the Programs section.
    5) I uninstalled Firefox 4.0 clicking on the box "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations" in order to remove whatever bug in my Firefox customizations was causing the two errors above (this is the MOST IMPORTANT PART of this whole process which is why I saved all my bookmarks as an HTML file and saved a screen shot of all the Firefox add-ons).
    6) I then reinstalled my old Firefox 3.6.16 version obtained from the following link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html (I am not yet in favor of using Firefox 4.0 -- you suppose you can reinstall Firefox 4.0 on your system if you want).
    7) After Firefox 3.6.16 was reinstalled, I had to import all my old bookmarks. Under Bookmarks on the Firefox Menu Bar at the top of the screen, I clicked on Organize Bookmarks. I then clicked on the Import and Backup menu and then the Import HTML command in order the BOOKMARKS.HTML file saved on the PC's desktop.
    8) I then re-added all my favorite Firefox add-ons by clicking on Add-ons under the Firefox Tools menu and then clicking on the Get Add-ons command. I then searched for all the old add-ons I wanted to re-add to Firefox using the Microsoft Word document on the PC's desktop saved with the screen shot of all the old Firefox add-ons on my system by I uninstalled Firefox 4.0.
    9) I then opened one of the old eBay auction page files saved on my hard drive under the eBay default file name "eBayISAPI.dll.htm". The file opened perfectly with NO missing sections and no missing original eBay auction listing photo! the file looked exactly like it did as if I was logged into eBay and looking at the original ended auction.
    10) I then opened Hotmail in Firefox and received NO "update your browser" message! I was able to open all my old emails and write and send new emails (with all my Contacts being automatically detected when I went to type in the email address of the person I was sending the new email to)!
In summary, you need to uninstall Firefox 4.0 being sure to click on the "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations" box during the uninstall process. Be sure to save/export all your old bookmarks before the uninstall process and make a note of all your old add-ons. Then reinstall whatever version of Firefox you are comfortable with. Apparently, my Firefox customizations had become corrupted at some point; removing the Firefox customizations during the uninstall process allowed any future Firefox version installed on my PC to start over with a clean slate (these corrupted settings would show up in whatever version of Firefox I had installed on my PC so removing them during the uninstall process was the key to solving all my Firefox bugs). I hope my suggestions help to solve your problem and good luck!

  • Installed yosemite. CS5 no longer workers. Error message about Java SE 6. But SE 6 doesn't seem to have a MAC version. How can I resolve?

Installed Yosemite on my Mac. CS5 no longer workers. When I try to open Photoshop, I get an error message about needing a Java SE 6. This is different from the other Java update Yosemite required (I already installed that). I assumed the higher update would suffice for previous versions, but I guess it doesn't work that way. Went over to the Java site, but SE 6 doesn't seem to have a MAC version. How can I resolve this?

  • Illustrator no longer opens FH files!

Just a 'heads up' to anyone who may still be lurking this board. With the release of Illustrator CS6 Adobe has apparently dropped support for opening FreeHand files i.e. Ai CS6 no longer opens FH files! Whether this is a short term glitch will probably largely depend on how vociferous the FH user base are in their desire to see this functionality restored. It seems to me now more than ever (esp. on Mac's going forward) that we do need to know there will be a program capable of running on contemporary architectures that can open FH files.

To run PPC programs you need Rosetta, which is discontinued with Lion.
To keep it possible for people to run Rosetta software, Apple greatly reduced the price of the server version of Snow Leopard, Snow Leopard Server. Although you won't need the server stuff, it is a version that has a EULA that allows you to run virtual installations of 10.6 on your Mac too. So you can legally install a Snow Leopard version in Virtual Box for example. You can make a lean OSX install with Freehand and other apps you like to continue running, and put them in a virtual environment.
    So to run Freehand
    - Start Virtual Box, you can set it up to automatically boot into the virtual Snow install. It will work on any mac from 10.6-10.9 and further into the future.
    - Start Freehand (Virtual box also has a mode to start virtualised apps directly from the doc, but I think that feature only works for Windows programs now). Share the project file folder of the Mac to the virtual system to be able to access and write to all relevat file directories.
    - After use, save state. The virtual mac will be stored in its last state, in maybe 10 seconds. This way it will boot straight into Freehand very fast next time.
