CS5 on a small monitor

I just loaded CS5 onto my new 11.5 inch computer (for travel).  The windows like the levels window are really small.  Is there a way to make them bigger??

Sounds like you have purchased a machine with a "high ppi" display.
You can make the fonts used inside the windows a little bigger with the Edit - Preferences - Interface option "UI Font Size".  That's about it.
Adobe says they're working on a new Photoshop CC release that will allow you to make the graphic elements bigger, but that will not be ported back to Photoshop CS5.

  • Appearance of site on a small monitor

    Hello again,
I am testing my site www.stayatmyhouse.net on a small (16 inch) monitor at the moment and some of the wider pages don't look too brilliant, I have to say. The main content region appears to drop way down below the side menu which aligns OK on my 19 inch and my son's laptop.
Originally I thought some of my wide pictures might be thowing things out, but the 'Garden Wildlife' page shows the problem in which none of the photos are particularly wide.
    Any ideas anyone?
I have attached a zipped version of the Garden Wildlife page as an example.

    Hi again, John,
It is shocking, isn't it? For a long time, the school had not only small monitors but was running an earlier (IE6) version of the browser. You can imagine how many great layouts broke with that combination!
Another interesting thing with your layout is that on some of the browsers, when I squoze the size of the viewport window the house image sailed underneath the navigation. On others, it sailed over in front of the nav.
Of course, I'm wondering if there will be more call for designing "small" for things like NetBooks, which have pretty small screens. Small, but not as small as handheld devices...

  • PS CS4 how to resize my workspace for a smaller monitor

I've been forced to downsize to a smaller monitor for my Mac Mini. Is there a way to resize the workspace in PS CS4? I can't access the sliders at the bottom and the right side because they are in a space which bleeds completely off the screen.

There are two approaches I know of, one is almost effortless... if the file is for a web site, just keep the file as is and in the web page set the dimensions to those desired.
The alternative can involve significant effort depending on your design complexity... you need to resize the stage and all the content as needed (possibly piece-by-piece and relocate things.
I do not know if the newest releases of Flash provide for a quicker solution to this problem.

  • Dual monitors: window size too large when opens in smaller monitor.

I use Windows 7 with two monitors. When I open Firefox directly from my desktop, it opens on the larger monitor, and the window size is just fine. But if I click a link from an email, Firefox opens in the second, smaller monitor, and the window is too large for that screen.
Please help me figure out how to either (a) make Firefox open with a smaller window; or (b) make Firefox open on the primary, larger monitor.

  • Getting your wireless router to work with the mini computers and their small monitors

I have one on the new Dell Mini computers.  I purchased the Wireless-G Broadband Router model #WRT54G2 and had the most difficult time getting Network Magic installed on the Mini because the monitor was too small for the required resolution (1024x768) - this was trying to install via the CD that came with the router.
    The solution to this problem:
    1)  Use the CD to install the Router and Network Magic on your desktop (or wherever you are hardwired to the internet).
    2)  Open Network Magic; go to "Status" and download the newest version of Network Magic to your desktop.
    3)  DO NOT use the CD to install Network Magic on the Mini.  Instead - Unplug your hardwire connection from your desktop and connect it to your Mini.  Go to "linksysbycisco.com/us/en/support/WRT54G2/download" and install the newest version of Network Magic on your Mini.
    4)  Replug your hardwire connection into your desktop.
    5)  You can now use Network Magic from your desktop to add the mini to the network.  Go to "Tasks" and then "Add a device."  You will be able to follow the directions at this point.
The only other issue I found was naming the network.  I had to name the desktop and the mini the same name otherwise it wouldn't connect.
Good Luck and hopefully it won't take you the three days it took me to figure this out.

Hi i have a Router WRT 54 G2 v1, when i want to connect it wireless to my new mini, He is asking me to enter a Security key !
i don't know how to get that Code, anyone would have an answer for me ?

  • Photoshop CS5 still chooses wrong monitor profile in dual monitor case?

The folk lore has it that if you go to EDIT/COLOR SETTINGS and open the Working Spaces RGB drop down, then what it says near the top on the "Monitor RGB" line is the monitor profile that photoshop is actually using.
If that is true, then I would expect that if I run photoshop on my monitor 1 it would show the profile of monitor 1, and if I run PS on monitor 2 it would show the profile of monitor 2. But in fact, it always shows the profile of monitor 1. Naturally, this creates anxiety that PS is using the wrong profile to display my images, since I normally run with the image on monitor 2.
My setup: Windows 7 64-bit, PS 12.0.1 x64. Matrox M9120 graphics card driving two monitors. Windows CONTROL PANEL/COLOR MANAGEMENT shows a different profile active on each monitor.
(By running photoshop on a particular monitor, I mean I run photoshop, drag it in non-full screen mode to the desired monitor, and close it. Then I run it again and it starts on that monitor (including the splash screen).)

Emil, Sorry, I disagree. It relates entirely to how Photoshop handles profiles, not how the operating system does.
Windows operating system doesn't handle color profiles at all, but it provides all programs that do with the same way to handle them. If you have the color profiles of your monitors installed properly in the system, they will be equally available to all programs. If a program can use properly one color profile for one monitor it will do the same with more.
    PeterFacey wrote:
I also have CorelDraw which is a colour managed application. If I set that straddling two monitors, do you think it will use the appropriate monitor profile for each half? I don't know, ...
I don't have CorelDraw and don't know if it is color managed, but if it is and if the color management on your system is working properly it should give you the same result as Photoshop. Just go ahead and check it - open the same image in Photoshop and in CorelDraw and make a screen capture then measure the RGB values in Photoshop or any program that displays the RGB numbers of colors. But have in mind that a screen capture from multiple monitors that share the desktop will capture the entire shared desktop on one image (if monitors are different sizes it will leave blank areas around the smaller one depending on the alignment), but the same colors will be the same on the entire screen capture using the effect from the color profile only of your main monitor. So if you want to measure how the other monitor displays the RGB color values of the same color, you have to change it  to your main monitor in your system in order to have the screen capture with the effect of that monitor's color profile.
On my computer using Windows 7, all color managed programs show the same colors on one or more monitors. Along with the color managed programs from Adobe like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and AfterEffects, the other color managed programs like Windows Explorer, Windows Media Player, Firefox, QuickTime, etc also show the same RGB values of a color from each program on a certain monitor.
Basically, if the color management is working properly, the same color displayed from all color managed programs should look the same or as close as possible on each monitor, but when you capture the screen and measure the RGB values they should be different on each monitor unless the monitors are physically identical which is unreal.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 opens in small window- can't enlarge or move it running on Win 7

This just started happening.  I have a Win 7 OS.  DW CS5 opens but it is a small minimized window and I can't enlarge it or move it.  The controls work and I can open a document but can't do anything becuase I can't see it except for part of the first line.
Does anyone have any idea of what is causing this.

  • Strange Colors in CS5 when using 2nd Monitor

    Hey here,
lately i connected my hardware calibrated Monitor to my MBP
and as i dragged the Picture from the MBP screen to the second Monitor, the colours changed into some ugly ****.
It only happens in CS ( Bridge / PS) other Programs ( capable of color management) like capture One or Phocus
did not have that problem. So i don't know what to do.
I made a new monitor profile, reset the ps settings, restarted via parameter ram reset, but nothing worked.
does anybody know what is happening here?
    thank you
    C.

We are also experiencing this with .psd .ai .eps .jpg files etc. etc. etc.
    Example:
An image is placed in a box in InDesign, then resized and positioned. In a later stage the image needs editing, so the image is selected and we click on Edit Original. The image opens in either PS or ILL, we alter it (not sizewise, just color). Then we save it and the link in InDesign updates.
    BUT
The position and the scale of the image most often CHANGES.
CS5 is soo full of bugs, it is not even funny anymore. We are slowly moving our studio back to CS3.

  • InDesign CS5 Werkzeugpaletten auf zweitem Monitor

    Hallo Leute,

stehen und überlagern sich. Habe dann nur noch ein Palettenwirrwar vor mir. Was kann ich tun???
    Vielen Dank

  • Large image on small monitor

    Can one control image size?
My iMac has a 17" monitor and occasionally a web image presents as way too big -- just a part is shown, with slide controls offered below and to the right.
Any way to reduce the image to fit the monitor?

    fortes,
Does it not display a magnifying glass with a " - " sign in it when you hover over the image. Because while I'm in safari and there is too big of an image I can click on it and it shrinks to fit and if I click on it again it grows extra big again and I have to scroll around. I have found that sometimes I have to wait for it to finish downloading.
    I hope that helps.

  • PSE 9 Mac-I switched to a smaller monitor and can't determine how to shrink the window.

I recently changed monitors from a 28" Cinema display to a 23" Cinema display (Mac) and discovered that the window is still being displayed for the larger monitor which means that the pallettes that are displayed on the right cannot be seen.
How do I get the window resized so I can use the software? I have the original cd but it's in storage and will be unavailable for a couple of months.

I've tried turning it off and it does show the pallettes so the application is useable. I get the impression that the pallettes are always there at the right side of the screen, but the application frame covers them when it's visible. However, I prefer to have the desktop obscured by the application frame ever since I got PSE 9. So it's only a temporary solution until I'm able to get my 28" monitor back.
Is there a way to delete some PSE file that is holding the size variables for the application frame so PSE will rebuild it the next time I run it? That seems to be the way Apple "fixes" things like that.

  • Trying to type on a path (CS5) and get small circle with plus sign???

I am trying for the first time to type on a path that I have made. I go to the type tool, type one letter which never appears...but the small circle with a plus sign inside it appears right at that spot on the path. Would love to know what is happening...and how I resolve it. Have googled and searched my books to no avail!

I had been doing what you suggested...but in going back this morning to try it again, I discovered that the box for centered text was selected from an earlier project...and obviously that doesn't work on a path!
    Thank you.

  • Why does my Wallpaper JPG (created CS5) pixels on 1 monitor and not another? Artwork is 600dpi, rgb, jpg, 30" x 16.5" size, 16:9 ratio. Does monitor resolution matter?

    OS 10.6.8, my monitor resolution = 2560 x 1440.

Don't worry about inches or ppi. Only worry about pixels when designing for a monitor. You will be much happier with the results.
    inches x ppi = pixels
    30 x 600 = 18000 pixels
    16 x 600= 9600 pixels
Printing as you can see is another matter, it requires a much higher resolution. Usually around 300ppi but I think you can see the difference.
Find the highest resolution of the two monitors and design for it. Then reduce for the other monitor never the other way around. It is much easier to remove pixels than to add them.

  • CS5.5 Multi-cam monitor

    Hey all,
I am editing a multi-camera piece in my sequence and using the multi-cam monitor to see the other angles. The only thing is that I can only get realtime playback on the preview window and not in the multi-cam window, it only updates in the multi-cam window once playback has stopped.
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance

    Jim Simon wrote:

Those aren't the right terms.  On the left you see the "angles".  On the right you see the "preview".  The Program Monitor is a separate thing and not part of the Multicam window.
With the Multicam window open, the Program Monitor will not update during recording or playback.  The angles and preview inside the multicam window should play fine.  Are you saying they don't?
Well I guess I'm what they call old school.   In my world as sports truck Director and Technical Diretor, anywhere you see your sources before putting them to air is "preview" and anywhere where you see the output is program.  I'm not sure, though, why the industry has to reinvent the wheel and change terminology from what it's been for years.  Guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
At any rate, to answer your second question... no they do not play fine in the multicam windows.  I do see all four sources in your "angles" pane on the left and the output in the "preview" pane on the right.  When I hit play in the multicam window they play fine for about half to one second both panes begin to intermittently freeze for about another second then they both freeze completely.  I can shuttle (scrub in your world) through the main sequence and the multicam window will play with some jerkiness but it's not stable enough to be useful.  If I hit play on the main sequence window both the program and the multicam windows will play but will do the same lockup thing after a couple of seconds.
I'm just copying my project off of my external drive to the internal drive to see if that helps things out.  I'll update when that's done in an hour or so.
