CS5 on Windows 7 64 bit and RAM

Hi
Running CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit system with 12gb RAM. CS5 says " only 3255 mb available". Why is this? Shouldn't I be able to use all of my RAM with the 64 bit versions?
need help asap please and it will be greatly appreciated
thanks
otto

That's because you started the 32bit version of Photoshop. On 64bit operating systems both a 32 and a 64bit version is installed by default so if you want to use all your ram then make sure that you run the one from the Program Files and not from Program Files (x86)

  • [BUG] Photoshop CS5 Extended 64-bit and the UAC

    HI
Installing all the updates of the suite of Photoshop CS5 Extended 12.LS4 32-64 bit on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, you must completely disable the UAC to start Photoshop CS5 Extended 64-bit. Why?
    THANKS
    BYE

That's a fair question.  Mine's not broken and I have not had to reinstall it, so I can't answer from personal experience.
General advice:  Make a good backup and set a restore point before trying any restorative activity.
Also search this forum for something like "registry permissions"...  I seem to recall at least one thread in early to mid 2010 where someone identified parts of the registry on which to alter permissions to solve some problem or another.

  • Installed Photoshop CS5 on Windows 8 and it will not open. Help

Installed photoshop CS5 on my new Windows 8 computer. Says its not compatible and will not open. Help

    Hi,
When CS 5 was released Windows 8 was not in the market, it just released recently, hence it was not tested on this enviornment. That would be the reason it says it is incompatible.
Check the Compatibility Matrix for latest release of these applications : http://www.adobe.com/support/OScompatibility.html

  • I have Dreamweaver CS5 with Windows 8 and it won't stay connected to the server and it says I need flash plug in, please help

I have a Gateway computer with Windows 8 installed.  I have installed Dreamweaver CS5 to manage my website and it won't stay connected to the server.  It also won't play flash and says I need a flash plug in.  Please help

#1  Try toggling Passive FTP on/off in your remote server's site definition.
#2 Except for a handful of gaming sites, Flash is a dead web technology.  It's not supported by iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android, etc...  I don't recommend using Flash for anything these days.  Better to use HTML5, CSS level 3 and JavaScript.

  • CS5 64 bit and plugins

I run win7 64 bit 6 gig ram and have cs5 both 64 bit and 32 bit installed. Kept having ram issues running cs5 32 bit so after searching through forum found I should be using cs5 64bit as it uses more of my available ram.. however the plugins/filters I use in CS5 32 bit wont work in the cs5 64 bit program. Its all so frustrating...   Is Adobe going to correct this ram issue for 32 bit?  I have 6 gig ram and cs5 32 bit only uses half of it

Adobe can't work miracles...  The "RAM issue" in general is that the 32 bit addresses provided by the 32 bit instruction set can only provide access to up to 4 gigabytes of RAM, or 2-3 gigabytes in practical terms, because of the way Windows handles addressing.
As far as your plug-ins go, most reputable plug-in makers are now offering 64 builds of their current products.  But I assume you have some you can't get new versions for.
But back to where you say you "Kept having ram issues"... :  Many people do a lot of stuff with 32 bit Photoshop...
Perhaps we could discuss what's going wrong, specifically, in your case...  Were you working on very large images?  What messages did you see?  Can you describe the problems in enough detail that others could try to reproduce them?

  • Windows 7 activation key is working on 32-bit and 64-bit?

Hello, I purchased a Ideapad U350 which came with a preinstalled copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. Because I upgraded the RAM memory to 4GB but my 32-bit OS architecture use only 2,84GB, so I want to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium but 64-bit version. The question is (to avoid buying a whole new Win 7 license) will the product key that came with my copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit also work on a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You're right! I did not use a OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit instead and this may be the reason why my OEM key for Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit was not accepted. Anyway, I reinstalled the 32-bit version which came on the hidden partition because few days ago I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit instead of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit and RAM usable memory is the same: 2,84GB!!! I did a clean install formatting C: but I did not format and delete the hidden OEM partition which came with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. After installation usable RAM was 3,84GB. I installed critical & recommended windows updates + the software I'm using the most, restarted my PC and surprise: usable RAM was 2,84GB!!! So it's no use to install 64-bit version...my usable RAM is still 2,84. That's why I switched back to 32-bit version.

  • Photoshop CS5 compatibility with windows 7 and windows 8

    Hello,
I do not understand the technical side of computers - I just use them for my work as a photographer
I have Photoshop CS5 32 bit installed on my PC with Vista home premium. I am buying a new PC with 64 bit Windows 7 installed, and it also has the option to upgrade for free to Windows 8 pro.
Will my CS5 work on windows 7 and if I take the free upgrade will it work on Windows 8 pro?
Does it matter that CS5 is 32 bit and the new PC will be 64 bit?
I don't want to get the free upgrade if it means my CS5 won't work on it, as I am happy wioth CS5 and do not need to upgrade to CS6 yet.
    Many thanks
    Tog Porter

Photoshop CS5 is a 32/64 bit application, so when you install it on your new system it will install both 32 and 64 bit versions by default.  This will give you compatibility with your 32 bit plug-ins, as well as 64 bit capability to edit large documents.
You may want to avoid the upgrade to Windows 8 at this time.  It's still immature and the drivers (e.g., for ATI video cards) leave something to be desired.  Plus, in general Windows 8 doesn't offer any compelling new features over Windows 7 (and actually removes some very useful one) - unless you really want the silly full-screen Metro/Modern games they offer at their new App Store.
If you DO decide to install the Windows 8 upgrade, I recommend you take whatever steps are necessary to install the new system as a full, virgin installation, rather than trying to upgrade the Windows 7 system you already have installed - and by this I mean you should NOT take the "keep programs and settings" upgrade, but do a Custom installation and install Windows 8 as though on a blank disk.  Operating systems installed as upgrades to prior versions virtually never work right.
In any case, after having run Photoshop on Windows 7 for a while, you'll want to DEactivate your Adobe software before making the transition (you can do this through the Help menu), then reactivate it after you're up on the new system.  This keeps control of your activation/licensing in your hand.
I strongly suggest you read up on Windows 8 before deciding to upgrade.  You'll find a lot of experts agree that it's not an improvement over Windows 7, which is hard to imagine because all prior versions - even Vista - have been improvements over their predecessors.

  • Windows 7 64-bit and CS5

I wrote a script a few years ago that lays out photos on multiple pages in a specialized grid pattern for a classifieds magazine. The script will run normally for about half of the first page and then ID CS5 quits.
I translated a few of the features from CS2 into CS5 when we upgraded and the script functions completely normally on OSX 10.6.4 but when I run it in Windows 7 64-bit it fails. I've replicated the behavior on multiple machines.
When I look at Windows Task Manager and watch the memory usage while the script is running everything seems normal until it reaches about 100MB of used memory, then script execution pauses and the memory usage spikes to over 1GB and ID CS5 quits.
    I've tried
    1) Running ID CS5 with Administrator Priveleges
    2) Running ID CS5 in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP SP3
    3) Running ID CS5 in a Windows XP SP3 Virtual Machine
Has anyone else experienced this issue with long running or memory intensive scripts?

That's because you started the 32bit version of Photoshop. On 64bit operating systems both a 32 and a 64bit version is installed by default so if you want to use all your ram then make sure that you run the one from the Program Files and not from Program Files (x86)

  • Windows 7 64-bit and 4gb ram on S10-3T

Can I upgrade my S10-3T to Windows 64-bit and install a 4gb stick of ram? I found a couple of sticks with matching specs on amazon.
Also will the processor bottleneck the 4gb ram/ is it even worth it?
    I have the N470 BTW

It means windows 7 64 bit won't work with S10-3T, same with the 4G RAM since its maximum is only 2GB

  • PhotoShop CS5 with Windows 7 64 bits and/or Windows 7 32 bits

    Hello
I just bought a new computer with an Intal QuadCore, 8 Gb of memory and Windows 7 - 64 bits edition
I plan to upgrade from a former Photoshop CS3 onWindows XP and it was a 32 bits edition
Is the Photoshop CS5 supported on BOTH Win 7 32 AND 64 bits ? Or are they different versions ?
I plan to either have a dual boot Win 7 32 Bits  -    Win 7  64 bits or separate hard disk on racks, so I'll still be able to use 32 bits softwazre that don't run on 64bits
But if PhotoShop CS5 comes in 2 versions, I need to decide which one I should buy
Thanks for any help you vcan provide
    have a good day
PS : Is the problem with PhotoShop CS5 running on AMD processors solved ?

Windows 7 x64 is a separate build from Windows 7 32 bit.  Windows 7 Ultimate comes with BOTH.
There isn't a separate package of Photoshop CS5 for 32 bit or 64 bit.  Photoshop (since CS4) installs both 32 bit and 64 bit software on a 64 bit Windows system, or only 32 bit software on a 32 bit Windows system.
Photoshop CS5 is fine with every variant of Windows 7.
Photoshop CS5 is reportedly fine with modern AMD processors, though I have only used Intel.
The detailed system requirements are here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/photoshop/systemreqs/
My own (personal, subjective) opinion is that ATI (AMD) video interfaces are better than nVidia.
    Hope this answers your questions.

  • What do i need to uninstall and reinstall photoshop cs5 extended windows 7 32-bit?

what do i need to uninstall and reinstall photoshop cs5 extended windows 7 32-bit?

Photoshop CS5 Extended suddenly stopped recognizing my NVIDIA 3D card (NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M). No 3D graphics will work in Photoshop. An Adobe online tech worked with me on it for about an hour. We concluded that I would go try to update the NVIDIA driver. The NVIDIA website is frustrating. The boxes to input my card model and system do not work.
Nawang uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop (my question below was about how to do that, but he did it for me and that did not help.)
My card is 3D capable. I used Repousse 3D effect two days ago and it worked fine. Now it is not working, all 3D controls are grayed out.

  • Windows 7 64 bit,CS5 64bit or 32 bit and 32 bit plugins

    Hello
Is there a list of 32 bit plugins that will work with Windows7 64 bit and CS5 64 and 32bit?
    I use Xenofex2
    KPT3
    KPT6
    KPT Collection
    Eye Candy 3.1
    Andromeda 3D deluxe
    Flo's Undistort
    Redfield Plugins

    Hello
    Thanks for the reply.
It seems that I will need to spend £110 ($165) to find out. That would go a little way to buying a Canon MPE 65 Macro lens.
Very likely I will say where I am. Windows XP Pro SP2 is good enough.
    Thanks

  • Audigy 2 ZS with Windows 7 64-Bit and more than 4GB of RAM

    Hello,
I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit and I have installed 8GB RAM. I installed the latest Beta driver and I'm not able to use my microphone. It doesn't recognize any input at all. As soon as I remove 4GB RAM so only 4 GB RAM remain everything works as expected. The microphone problem is only there when you have more than 4GB RAM installed. Is there any driver or workaround to make the microphone work again?
    I don't want to
use another version of Windows 7<
    reduce my RAM<
    use onboard sound<
I hope you can help me or at least tell me if (and when) Creative wants to fix this.
    Thank you. Kind regards
    T3rm

No solution from me, but I just wanted to chime in because I have the same problem and I'd like to explain it in detail. I've actually had this problem with Vista 64-bit (6GB of RAM) for the past 2 years. It's a very flaky/random problem, where about 40% of the time the microphone worked fine, 20% where I would get minor crackling (turns my voice into a robot voice), 20% with MAJOR crackling, and 20% where the microphone didn't work at all. When it would either crackle or stop working, I would usually restart the computer. After the computer booted up again, it would work fine 95% of the time (I very rarely had to reboot it twice in a row). However, it would randomly change states (between the four listed above) throughout the duration of the computer staying on. And, it would usually progress in the direction of "being more and more broken". For example:
.) Wake up, turn on my computer. Everything works fine.
2.) Go to class, come back. Now the microphone crackles.
3.) Do some homework, eat dinner. Now the microphone doesn't work at all.
I was excited when the SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_00.exe update came out in July so I can finally get a consistent working microphone in a 64-bit version of Windows. Then everything came together last week, when I got a copy of Windows 7 64-bit Professional from my school. I tried the drivers and....FAIL. Pretty much the same thing, but different percentages/tendencies than listed above for Vista.
I just found this on another thread which highlights some useful information:
Microphone issues on Windows 7/Vista 64-bit (x64) with 4GB?of RAM or more
Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, resulting in random issues with the Microphone (static, robotic or distorted voice, white noise).
    Workarounds:
    - install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows
    - limit the RAM available to Windows to less than 4GB
    - enable Memore Hole in BIOS Setup, if?your motherboard supports the setting
Haha, why even release a 64-bit "compatible" driver when it doesn't even work right in 64-bit operating systems? Should I not expect a proper driver and buy an Asus Xonar instead?

  • Windows 7 and 64 bit CS4

When I installed CS4 on my Windows 7 Laptop, it installed both a "regular" version of CS4 and a 64 bit version. When I open Bridge, slecect a photo and open it, it opens in the 64 bit version. I always forget this and attempt to run either an onOne or Imagenomic plugin and they are not visible because I am in 64 bit. My workaround is to save the photo with whatever ACR changes I made. Close CS4, Open the non 64 bit CS4 and then run my plugin.
    Isn't there a better way?
What is the benefit of this 64 bit version? I seem to remember reading that the 64 bit version allows utilization of all of mu RAM?
Can I make the non 64 bit my default for opening RAW files?
I assume, with the launch of CS5, that onOne, Imagenomic and others will produce a 64 bit version.
And on a semi-related note, but on my desktop machine, I have been having issues with onOne plugin's misbehaving. Memory errors, crashing etc etc. I posted a comment to the onOne forum about this and the bottom line is:
"I am running XP on a machine with 4 gb of RAM. Performance settings in CS4 show 1682 mb of available RAM, Let Photoshop use 1194 mb's. I have almost 700 gb's of available space on my hard drive. History States are 20 and Cache Levels are 4. Doesn't it seem like I have enough horsepower to run onOne smoothly and without issues?"
They responded: "Unfortunately, you don't have much memory available and this will definitely affect performance and stability within Photoshop. It would help working with only one open image at a time as well."
Do I have what's deemed to be low memory?
    Bob

Thanks Curt, I will make the change to 32 bit on my laptop.
I cannot get available memory to anything higher than1682 right? That's a limitation of Windows XP?
With having my settings at 72%, am I potentially starving onOne of needed memory? I thought CS4 and onOne  were "sharing" the 1194 and the other couple of gb (I have 4 gb of RAM)  would be used by other Windows programs?

    Hi,
         thank you for your answer.
The original Text photoshop showing me is the following:
Konnte ein Arbeitsvolumen nicht öffnen, weil die Datei gesperrt ist
oder Sie keine ausreichende Berechtigung haben. Heben Sie den Schutz
der Datei mit Hilfe des Befehls 'Eigenschaften' im Windows Explorer

Sorry I can tell you this only in German.
After Installation the Version 64 Bit couldn't work because of this
sentence (Windows 7 has 64 Bit Version). The 32 Bit Version worked
without problems. The next day both versions didn't work because of
this Informatiom. Bridge and Camera raw workinjg perfect but photoshop
    (CS 5) is blocked.
