CS5 Photoshop troubles with grafic board Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT
I am using a Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT grafic board and Windows Vista. Also I have downloaded the newest driver from the Nvidia Website
and installed it correctly. After having started up Photoshop CS5 the first time, it all works perfectly. Also when I close the program and restart it, no problems occure.
If I then restart my computer, start up the Photoshop CS5 Software and open a picture from an existing file, the image cannot be displayed on the screen. Also if I start a new file (click on file - new - ...) the white drawing map is not displayed. The only thing I see is the grey background color as well as the rulers. The thumbnail of the opened image or the white drawing map is displayed within the navigator window normally and there are no error messages at all.
If I now reinstall the NVIDIA driver, restart my computer and start up Photoshop CS5, it again works all perfectly. So to run Photoshop CS5 on my computer, I need to install the already installed NVIDIA driver after every reboot.
Maybe there is a solution in changing the VRAM settings within Photoshop?
You may be able to run without OpenGL, but there are some nice features you'll be missing.
Take Zeno's advice.

Premiere Elements 10 - Is Mercury Engine compatible with Graphic Card Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M?
I do not see this card listed on the Adobe products page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/873/cpsid_87347.html but am hoping someone who is more computer savy at Adobe or Nvidia or somewhere else can advise me.
I'm looking to purchase a laptop with the subject graphics card.

Hello,
We have a couple video workstation PC's in our office.
Premiere and After Effects have been crashing lately with increasing frequency - about every two minutes now.
Here is the setup:
Hardware
Matrox Mini - Matrox Utility release 5.5.1
Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 - Driver release 275.33
Intel Xeon X5660 2.8 GHz processors
24 GB Ram
Software
Adobe CS5.5, specifically...
After Effects 10.5.0.253
Premiere 5.5.2
Windows 7 64-bit
We have two 21" LCD monitors in dual display running from the computer, and the Matrox Mini outputs a preview signal to a 15" CRT.
The crashes occur when I have After Effects and Premiere open at the same time. I am editing in a Matrox 720p29.97 timeline in Premiere. I imported several compositions from AE into Premiere through Dynamic Link and am matching audio with the animations in comps. When I switch back to AE to make an edit in the comp, After Effects generates a crash warning and then gives me the opportunity to save the project under a new name. After saving, it closes down completely. The Matrox WYSIWYG Control Panel in the system tray crashes during AE's crash, disabling the preview to the CRT from Premiere and AE. Since the Premiere sequence is a Matrox preset - in order to have output to the CRT - this freezes the timeline; the video and audio no longer play. When I save and then try to close Premiere, Premiere freezes and will not close without a force quit via the Task Manager.
In order to deal with this temporarily, I am editing in an AVCHD 720p30 sequence preset in Premiere, which doesn't send a preview feed to the CRT, obviously, since it's not a Matrox preset and the CRT is connected via the Matrox Mini. It's more than a minor inconvenience, since I use the CRT for color accuracy.
It is frustrating, since we did not have this problem until the recent CS5.5.2 update. We have tried changing drivers for the GTX 570 and changing the Matrox utility software to other versions, but no luck.
Is there a combination of GTX 570 drivers, Matrox software releases, and AE/Premiere settings that will make this work? I know there are "Known Issue" posts with Nvidia cards on Matrox's website, which include the GTX 570, but, again, this problem started with the Adobe CS5.5.2 update.
Any help here would be great, and I am willing to provide more information about the system and our crashes if it helps find a solution for the community, as I know this is not an isolated problem after reading Nvidia's, Matrox's, and Adobe's forums. I just can't find a hollistic solution on any of the individual manufacturer's forums.
Thank You.
JordanI've been running with Matrox for years, starting with the Axio LE. I do 75% broadcast work and find that the Matrox works very well with my kind of workflow. Monitoring is critical and since we have to deal with 3rd. party solutions, Matrox was my pick dating way back to 2006. Sure I've had frustrations with it, but I've made far more money off Matrox than frustration.
Here's my nearly crash-free setup:
Gigabyte GZ-X58A-OC moboard
Intel 990X (only overclocking to 4.0)
24Gb of Kingston HyperX Ram
GTX580 Graphics Card
Matrox MXO2-LE w/Max
Crucial 240Gb Sata III drive (the one that has a nearly perfect score on Newegg's site)
2 x 2Tb WD Blacks Raid 0
2 x 1Tb WD Blacks Raid 0
Win 7 Ultimatte (it's a high-end version of Windows that's great for keying!)
CS5.5 Suite
Boris Red 5
Boris Continuum Complete 8
Trapcode Shine, Form, 3d Stroke, Starglow, and Particular
Optical Flares by Video CoPilot
The reason I list all of that software, is that it all seems to get along together, including with Matrox! So, I can't say I highly endorse Matrox because I've never tried Black Magic or running an external monitor off of my video card.
I use After Effects with all sorts of plug ins and rarely have crashes. If I put in a long day I'll have the usual crashes here and there (mainly with PremierePro), but nothing that has required evan a soft reboot of the computer.
My frustration with Matrox is mainly the delay that often comes with Adobe coming out with a new release and Matrox taking 2 or 3 months to catch up, though when Adobe went from 5 to 5.5, there was no delay at all.
I think that a lot of the people who trash Matrox probably haven't used a Matrox product in years. But before you listen to me, I must confess that I was an early adopter (and advocate) of SSDs and even today, many people on this forum think they're still a waste of money!
I'll close by simply saying that I've not left Matrox after 5+ years, but keep in mind I haven't had the bad experiences that so many others seem to have had, but again, perhaps they had those bad experiences long ago. -

When I turn off the GPU in photoshop then it process's the image but with a lot of stops as its thinking. Images are from a 7D canon and are between 21-25 mb in size My workflow is through Lightroom anf the exportet file from lightroom into PS is at 240 DPI so the image do get kind of large. have not tryed to reduce size yet. -
Problems with FCP and Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT video card
Not sure if this should be in the MacBook Pro forum or this one...
I am having trouble with the GeForce 8600M GT video card while editing in final cut pro (and after effects). I have talked with numerous people at applecare, but they say that they are unaware of issues regarding the video card.
The problem: It's almost like the card is unable to keep up with professional video applications. Whenever there is movement in the video I'm editing, I get lines across the screen. Not sure to how better to explain it than to say it looks like the video card is having a tough time refreshing. (I can take the same video to a much older power book, and it plays perfectly, so its not the source file.)
At first I thought it was an FCP issue, but I just started using after effects, and I'm having the same problem in there. If I edit in after effects, when I play it back (in after effects), I get the lines. I can then export the project to a quicktime file. The quicktime file plays perfectly (no lines) when not involved with a professional application. Then if I import the same quicktime file into FCP and play it back in FCP, the lines happen again.
Is anyone esle having this problem? Any thoughts? Any solutions?
Thanks!
Michael

Message was edited by: mjaffe00I had searched the macbook pro forum, but not this one. It seems that the "screen tearing" issue has been talked about a lot, so I apologize for the repetitive nature of the post. I will say that I am fairly shocked that given how many people have clearly called applecare, no one there seems to have a clue that there is a problem with this video card. I have talked with at least 4 different people in the FCP specialty group, and not one had any clue what I was talking about... 3 of the 4 were fairly insistent that it was a video source issue on my side.

Satellite P10 - trouble with grafic adapter
Hi,
When starting my Satellite P10 - 554 today, the display showed unsorted colored pixels all around the screen. The BIOS message appears fully normal. After booting into the graphical mode, starting windows XP, the screen keeps being black.
The hard disk works fine. I've checked the display. It's working fine.
I guess the graphic adapter (geforce go 5600) is damaged. Any chance getting my notebook fixed? Do I need a new mainboard, or is there any possibility replacing the graphic adapter? Where can I get the needed parts, used or unused? What do the "exchange parts" cost? Better buy a new notebook?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Are you 100% sure that the graphic card is dead? This can be checked very easily.
You could connect the external monitor to the notebook and could check if the same appears on the external monitor too. If the same fault would appear on the external monitor then the GPU could be really faulty.
In such case the whole motherboard must be changed and such procedure costs a little fortune because the motherboard is on of the expansive notebook parts. You should calculate 300-350 euro
So maybe an second hand board could be a alternative.

CS5: Having trouble with HDR Pro.
I just got my copy of CS5, and tried HDR Pro. The main HDR Pro screen cuts off at the bottom, hiding (presumably) the OK and Cancel buttons and whatever else is there. I have to Force Quit my way out of CS5. Other CS5 screens that I checked show no such problem. CS4 and PSE8 and PSE9 never had this problem on the same computer and OS. What's going on?
I am using an iMac with OSX 10.6.8.Any information?

How compatible are CS5 photoshop files with CC photoshop files?
If I save a photoshop file in CS5, will it open alright in Creative Cloud?

Problems with Nvidia GeForce 210 and windows 8.1
Hi all, I have Windows 8.1 Pro update 1 64bit installed, two weeks ago I started giving problems graphics card NVidia (even has me
given several blue screen).
I tried to update the drivers for the card but I got the same problem. It was working properly with generic
drivers, and if I went to Computer Administrator me a yellow triangle appeared
on my graphics card and the properties told me the following:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43 )
My machine is as follows:
Mainboard : Asus P5K SE
Chipset: Intel P31/P35
Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2400MHz
Physical Memory : 3072MB (3 x 1024 DDR2- SDRAM)
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Hard Disk : Seagate ST3320620AS ATA Device (320GB )
Monitor Type: LG Electronics L1919S
I just formatted
the computer from scratch, and
I still had the same problem with the graphics card,
so I imagined it would be a hardware problem
and bought NVIDIA GeForce 210.
In the end I
upgraded to Windows 8.1 update 1 with
the latest drivers for the GeForce 210,
and after 6 days running everything correctly, a few days ago
returned to give me problems,
the screen sometimes freezes and will not
let me do anything and after a while
giving me a blue screen and reboots
me, I suspect that the graphics drivers
are giving me problems, and I had to
disable the graphics card and work with
generic drivers from Microsoft, and even then I
was restarted once.
I installed Driver Booster and all the drivers are updated.
Could
anyone analyze
dump files dmp ? Download here
I got another dmp:
C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP but it is too heavy.
Thanksyes, I check the dump files
this cause by graphic card, on which graphic card you reformat your PC and update
.NET framework maybe cause this driver corrupted
my suggestion is try using internal graphic card, just for testing
Just in case you don't believe me, please check this dump file

Dual 23'' with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
I want to know if I can drive 2 23" inch displays on a Mac Pro 8 core with the stock NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT at full resolution or do I need to get a second card. My monitors are not the new ones with the aluminum finish, they are a generation or two behind, they are the ones that have the white plastic frame.
ThanksThe card can drive two monitors. Only one can be 30". The two 23" will be fine, but you will need two DVI to ADC adapters if they are ADC (Apple Display Connector) models.

MBP with a dead Nvidia GPU- possible workaround?
I am one of these who have a MacBook Pro with a dead NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip. Other than that it functions perfectly. I'm pass the warentee and apparently even that replaced the motherboard with another with the same chip on it (no pin-for-pin replacement ever to be made) so will die again sooner or later (mine took four and a half years). I can still connect to mine via screen sharing, the onboard Intel graphics work but don't connect through the display connector to the outer world. I had an idea of something to try and wonder if anyone out there have tried it yet. There are Expresscard/32 cards out there to add monitors to the MBP. They have their own GPUs and connectors (DVI and SVGA). Has anyone tried these out on a MBP with a dead NVIDIA chipset? I can get them on Amazon for $70 or so but would rather not gamble at this stage but may try soon. The MBP is not my primary machine but it is a drag that it can only be used via screen sharing.
-JamesI found this article on iFixit :
http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/9045/MBP+A1226+Logic+Board+last+resort+fix+fo r+nVidia+video+chip
What the did was intentionally overheat the MBP while it is upside down and this re-solders the chip back in place. Basically running som graphics intense program while it's wrapped in a blanket. Many sucess stories. I will try this when I get the nerve (I mean it works now via shared screens so it may break it further). -
ATI 4870 AND NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT together ?
hello. i have a mac pro 1.1 with the stock NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card. I will receive a new ATI Radeon HD 4870 card today and was wondering if it was possible to have both cards installed and if this wold provide a performance boost (ie will rendering videos utilize the power of both combined etc) . Also, i would like the option of having 3 displays . So 2 questions,
1. can i have both cards installed at once?
2. and if yes, will it provide benefits or problems/conflicts ?
thanks
Mac Pro 1,1 , 5GB Ram , Latest Snow Leopard , Mac 20ish" Display, and Sony Bravia 52" as display using dvi-hdmi cable .I've run the 4870 together with the 7300gt; there were no problems whatsoever. You'll be able to run 4 monitors, other than that there are no other benefits. This is under OSX.
Note though, if you're running windows under bootcamp, with both cards installed you will likely run into driver conflicts. Best to keep to the same "clan" (ATI or Nvidia) when booting in windows. -
Configuring X for use with Television on Nvidia
Hi there!
I on a nVidia GeForce 8500 GT with TV-Out. I would like to use my old CRT-Mitsubishi-TV to watch Movies on it. What I did was buying a connector from S-Video to Cinch (this one to be exactly: http://www.reichelt.de/?;ARTICLE=57611, then I plugged a long cinch cabel into it and connected it to the Television with a SCART-Converter.
I 'm perfectly able to get a picture onto my TV with TwinView configured. A configuration with to seperate screens didn't work (probably because of KDE4). The only problem I have is, that there is always some space cut off. If I put a window into fullscreen there is always some space I can't see (on all 4 sides). That's a little annoying. Does anyone have a clue what the problem could be?
I already played around with some settings (different resolutions, composite/s-video, different tv-standards, etc.), but nothing really helped. All modes that worked more or less had cut-off areas. As I only want to play movies (usually with vlc) I would be fine with any other solution, that makes the vlc full-screen-view fit into the TV.
Here are the important parts of my xorg.conf (please don't care too much for the actual modeline, as I said I tried many different resolutions for the TV):

mis-read your post, sorry.
I'm assuming you've tried nvidia's tools for this, so have you looked into xrandr? It provides a non config userspace way to set-up multy display and provides scaling, I think that may help you here.
man xrandr for more information
I used the posted xorg.conf with xrandr (i. e. "xrandr -r 50 -s 1680x1050" to switch to the monitor only modeline etc.), i also played around with "NVidia X-Server Settings", but with no success.
I already used this television with an Intel-Graphics-Card, xrandr was more useful back then. I for example used this script to switch to dual-view:
#!/bin/sh
xrandr --auto
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 800x600
xrandr --output TV --same-as LVDS
xrandr --output TV --set TV_FORMAT PAL
xrandr --output TV --mode 800x600
I believe this has worked fine. So it probably is the fault of the Nvidia-Card or the S-Video-To-Cinch-Connector (which I hadn't used before). Or it is because of bad configuration.
karol wrote:- rescaling your movies, adding a border around the frame to compensate for the cut-off (if it is regular and constant).
Yes, I tried different resolutions. To me the cut-off areas seemed to always be the same. I'll go on with resizing the VLC-X-Video-output-Window to fit. Is there an easy way to do this (or cut off certain areas in an comfortable way with vlc)? Of course I would also love to hear further ideas on what I could do about this issue. -
Photoshop CS5 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 Crash
My specifications:
Photoshop CS5 (x64)
Windows 7 x64
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 (latest v197.45 driver)
Intel i7 920 2.67 GHz
My card is listed as a tested card for CS5 and NVIDIA says this is compatible with CS5, but today after using it, my screen went blank and the display driver recovered itself. It took about 5 minutes until Photoshop CS5 became responsive again and the GPU features were disabled. I am going to try GPU advanced mode and basic mode instead of normal mode to see what happens, but this is a shame that I have issues like this. I also had issues with CS4 like this.
What I did to cause this issue: I clicked" Place.." to place an object and that is when it crashed. It only happens randomly as I use Photoshop. Please NVIDIA or Adobe fix this issue. I love the GPU features and I want to run them, but this crashing is annoying for spending so much on buying this product. I hate to have to pay to contact Adobe technical support, it should be included with the purchase of software!
How to fix this without having to go to basic GPU mode or disabled GPU mode?function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
SteveR From UK wrote:
With my own problems and a keen observer of this thread it making me think that I should stay away from Nvidia cards cards completed and go ATI
It comes down to policies within companies that in some cases we simply cannot know.
For example:
Does nVidia or ATI have a better plan to support cards with new drivers into the future? My experience is that right now, with my particular video card, ATI does a better job of making new features available (and making them work right) than nVidia. Is this based on support policy or simply what the engineers can and can't do? Maybe it's partially a matter of funding.
Who has a better handle on how to develop unified software and keep it working on all a whole family of cards? What is their software quality? I am active on Windows forums, and it sure seemed to take nVidia a lot longer to stabilize their drivers for Windows 7 than ATI.
Who has a better test lab? You can imagine that if one company has a better built/funded/maintained test lab, they're more likely to make new versions of drivers for old cards work properly if they have a computer set aside somewhere with that old card in it just waiting to try out new drivers. Unfortunately you can imagine with these companies making many, many new models all the time that funding that lab (and funding the MAINTENANCE of that lab) could get to be HUGE!
Lastly, how much do Marketing or other greedy business people influence company direction, vs. Engineers? Imagine a Marketing person's thoughts: "Stop making new drivers for that old card; we're not selling those and haven't for a long time. If a person has one and can't run the latest game or graphics software, he'll go buy a new one, and that's more money for us."
By the way, just to get an idea of how many different cards we're talking about, look at the sheer number of models listed in the various lists on this page: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
Just food for thought.
