CS5 RAW and Nikon D3100 - no go

How often does Adobe update Camera Raw?  I have a new Nikon D3100 that is not supported.

Approximately 3 monthly intervals.
You can always use the free, standalone DNG converter until your camera is supported.

  • Raw files with CS5 photoshop and Nikon D3300

I currently have CS5 suite, I know it's old..but its what I have to work with.  I just purchased the Nikon D3300 and cannot open the raw files.  I installed the 8.4 dng converter, but obviously that does not work.  i tried to uninstall it and install the 6.3 as I read that on a board.  But I can't even uninstall the 8.4.  No option for that in the uninstall in windows..it just does not come up.  Help!! How do open the raw files in CS5?

You need Windows 7/8/8.1 to run the DNG 8.4 converter. Which do you have?
Before you do anything, there is a proper way to use it. You convert a folder of raw files not a single raw file.
Camera Raw: How to use Adobe DNG Converter - YouTube
The DNG converter is a single executable file.  There are no registry entries.  That's why there is no uninstall in the Control Panel. All you have to do is locate the file and delete it.

  • Photoshop CS3/Camera Raw and Nikon D5100

    Hi,
I have Photoshop CS3 and a Nikon D5100 and I am unable to open my RAW files.
    Any ideas?

    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
The D5100 has been supported since Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 6.4 which is only compatible with CS5 and later. CS3 is too old.
    Either
    Join the Cloud, or
Join the Photoshop Photography Program, or
Buy Lightroom 5, open the Raw files, save to TIFF then edit the TIFFs in CS3, or
Keep CS3. Download the free Adobe DNG converter and convert all your D5100 Raw files to DNGs. Then edit the DNGs in CS3.

  • Trouble with Photoshop CC 2014, Camera Raw and Nikon 750.

I just installed Camera Raw 8.7.1. It put the folders in a "Pug-Ins" folder under \Programs\Common Files. My Photoshop CC 2014 is in \Programs\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC2014. When I try to open a NEF file from my Nikon D750, CC 2014 says it cannot open it; it is an unsupported file type. So what do I need to do? TIA, Rob

You can select a jpeg and try Ctrl r.  If it doesn't work, let's do a reset. I didn't ask, but you are using Bridge CC?
Start Adobe Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) until the Reset Settings dialog box appears.
Select all three options--Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache--and then click OK.

  • Camera Raw and Nikon D610

Does Camera Raw in Elements 10 need to be updated for a Nikon D610 (I'm thinking of buying one).

You need at least ACR 8.3 for the D610 and you can't update PSE 10 that far. So you have three choices:
    1. Update to PSE 12.
    2. Use the nikon software to convert your NEFs and open the converted files into PSE for any further editing.
    3. Download the free adobe DNG converter and use that to create DNG files that your version of ACR can understand.

  • Adobe Capture Raw and Nikon Capture NX

I've just bought a Nikon D80 (lucky me but now broke) and have been playing around with RAW files. I can see great advantages in shooting in this format.
I have PSE 4 on a Mac and it seems to me, from looking at tutorials on the web, that all the features of the RAW plug-in are not available in PSE. I know about the lack of support for Sidecar files but there isn't any colour space support either so far as I can see and there are fewer tabs in the window. Is this correct or am I missing something? I'm not overly bothered but it would be good to know.
Nikon offer a free trial of their Capture NX application. I'm reluctant to try this given the plug-in clashes which arose from installing Nikon's rather poor Picture Project FROM the CD which came with the camera (I've now deleted it). Would Capture NX offer me anything significant beyond what I can do with ACR?

On some photography forums I read that after you manipulate a NEF (RAW) file using Nikon Capture NX the file is no longer recognizable by Adobe RAW.
I also have a new Nikon D80 and like some of the features of Capture NX but usually use Adobe Photoshop Elements (4.0 & 5.0) to organize and do simple edits. Therefore, my current plan is to only use Capture NX to work on key NEF photos and then save as JPEG for PSE 5.0 to handle.
Too bad there wasn't one standard for NEF file edits.

I've got an ongoing printing problem that is included in in a post a few days ago. I went to the Genius Bar in Orlando and the Creative there found that I had a problem with some Nikon profiles. I've installed the Camara Raw update but I still get the errors below... How can I resolve?

These files are color icc profile *.icm files. In particular, D200 specific files for the latter (NKLch2.icm is a Standard Nikon Profile).
Have you tried changing the print color profile to AdobeRGB?
If you are already in Adobe RGB color space, save the file as tif in Capture, then print from another program. Also try moving them out of the Profile folder and see if the error goes away? If you are not using them, it should not affect you. My NKLch2.icm file is Nikon Lch Profile v4.0.0.3003, if it matters....
I have never had this problem, sorry.

  • Camera Raw and Nikon D7100

Hello, Camera Raw doesn't support new Nikon D7100, and there is no update available, so what are you doing with this problem ? T tried the beta 7.4 but it doesn't support either. Thank you to answer as soon as possible. Best regards. Alan.

    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
D700 first supported in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 5.1 (CS6 ships with ACR 7.0)
D7100 first supported in ACR 7.4
You probably just need to update Camera Raw in CS6 via Help > Updates.
Confirm which ACR version you have installed via Help (Win) or Photoshop (Mac) > About Plug-In > Camera Raw.

  • Camera Raw and Nikon d750

I've been working with Nikon for several months now trying to find out why I cannot open up their NEF files. I even sent my camera back to their repair facility for the recall on the D750 and they fixed that problem but ignored all my documentation on the problem of not being able to process NEF files in Photoshop or Nikon Capture NXD. Capture NXD would convert my files into tiny 3x5 inch photos. Well, it turns out that it was Nikon Transfer that was corrupting my files during the transfer. Today  saw that you suggested using Bridge to download my files from the camera and I did and now it works just fine! Thank you so much and I wish you had suggested that months ago. I am using CS6.

Raw files from the new Nikon D810 will not open with either Photoshop CS5.1 or Lightroom 4.  When will a real Adobe solution be available to work with Raw (NEF) files in their native format, using CS5.1 and LR4?

Clarification: this is a user forum; you are not addressing Adobe here.
The answer to your question as phrased is: never.
CS5 is history and it is not longer supported.  There will not be any updates or bug fixes for CS5.
You need to convert the raw NEF files from your D810 to raw DNGs using the free, standalone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 RC (beta), the first version ever to support that camera..

  • Camera RAW for a Nikon D3100

I have CS5 but i cannot open my RAW files. My cmera is a Nikon D3100.

    Hi,
Nikon D3100 needs Adobe Camera raw version 6.3, in order to work with PS CS 5
Please check the ACR version on your PS CS 5
    1. Open PS CS 5
    2. If its Windows OS, then click help >> about plugin >> camera raw
if its mac, then click Photshop menu >> About Plugin >> Camera raw
    3. Check the version of the camera raw, if its less than 6.3, Nikon D3100 will not work
In order to update your Camera Raw, please update your PS CS 5 from the Help menu
This is the document where all the cameras along with their supported ACR versions are mentioned : http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Once, ACR is updated to 6.3 or greater (6.7 is the maximum version) then , the pics from Nikon D3100 will work and open without any issues.
    Thanks,

  • Getting Nikon D3100 NEF Photos Into CS4 Camera Raw

I am a novice photographer (some of my work is here: http://www.chrisinmotion.com/office1.htm). I recently bought a Nikon D3100 DSLR but can't for the life of me get any of the Native NEF images to open in Photoshop CS4 Camera Raw. What steps do I need to follow to accomplish this task and what additional software do I need to download. I have updated CS4 with all the plug-ins. I would be ever so grateful for a step by step outline. Thank you. -- Chris

The Nikon D3100 is NOT supported by any version of Adobe Camera Raw that runs with CS4.  There will never be any updates to CS4.
    You have three options:
    1.— Upgrade to CS5; or
2.— Download the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, currently 6.4, and use it to convert your raw Nikon files to raw DNG files first, then open those raw DNG files in Adobe Camera Raw 5.7 hosted by Photoshop 11.0.2 ("CS4"); or
    3.— Use the Nikon software.

  • Looking for the camera raw plugin for Nikon d3100

    Hello!
I'm familiar with how to install a camera raw plugin for photoshop.  However, I've had a difficult time finding the correct download link for the Nikon d3100 for ps cs4.  Will you please point me in the right direction with a link or otherwise?  Thanks so much!

ACR - Adobe Camera Raw versions are specific to the version of Photoshop you have.
They don't provide updates to your version for cameras that were released much later.
You need to download the LATEST version of DNR Converter and use this to convert a FOLDER that contains your D3100 files to DNGs which then can be opened in your older version of ACR for Photoshop CS4.
The Adobe DNG Converter, a free utility that converts files from more than 350 cameras to DNG, enables you to easily convert camera-specific raw files to a more universal DNG raw file.
