CS5 Saving Issues

Hi,
We are currently working on a large project involving our clients inputting changes directly (hence the use of InCopy) and our production artists going into the InDesign file and cleaning it up after content is input. We have had several cases now where our clients have input changes in InCopy, saved, checked the file back in and then checked it back out and reopened it later, with some of the changes then missing. The example that we were given was that they had gone in and changed a sentence from orange to black, removed brackets from around a number, and changed that number. After saving, checking the file back in and then reopening it, the sentence colour was still black and the brackets were still gone, but the number had changed back to the old version.
This has happened multiple times, and they have started saving PDFs of the file after saving changes but before checking the file back in as proof the changes were actually made. In addition, our production artist added some tables into the InDesign file yesterday, saved everything and then reopened it and the tables were gone. We are wondering if it has something to do with the checking in/checking out process with the InCopy stories. Any help would be much appreciated,

Saving a jpeg is like saving a flattened file, so the jpeg format doesn't support transparency.
You can save the file to a format that does support transparency such as psd, tiff or png.
For use on the web png works well.

Photoshop CS5 Saving Issues

Hey,
So I have a drawing that I drew up in CS5. In this drawing, the layers that I am trying to save as a .jpeg file are without a background color. I am experiencing a problem where when I go to save the image as a .jpeg (or any file type), for some reason photoshop throws in a white background after the save which is not wanted and not part of the image. I just want it to save my image with no background color. I have been able to do this before without having this problem, so I have no clue what could be going on. If it helps, I can upload the .jpeg file. Does anyone have any ideas?

Ultrabeat Saving Issues

Greetings,
I did a bit of searching on this and other forums, but found very little on this subject. When saving Ultrabeat presets, sometimes the sample OSC has none loaded and sometimes, it loads a completely different drum (Taiko for example). Has anyone else commonly seen this error within Ultrabeat? I noticed that this only happened with my previous custom template, "pre" Time Machine + Airport Update. Also, I noticed that if my template already has an Ultrabeat loaded on Logic Startup, the same weird bug happens again.
In short: Does anyone else have Ultrabeat preset saving issues, and if so, what did you do to work around it?
I know this problem is elsewhere on this forum, and somewhat forgotten, but I want to start fresh on this topic, and hopefully get to the bottom of this.

We can only hope that Apple solves this issue as well. But when you think about it, where do they begin with so many problems to address?
The Apples will need all the luck and coffee this side of the World. I don't even know what to expect from their ever so popular "update". I'm calling apple today, but they'll tell me the same thing they always say......which is not much.

Numbers saving issue

This message pops up about every 10 minutes. Can you tell me how to correct the issue?
I'm running a MacBook Pro v 10.9.2 and Numbers v 3.2.
The Numbers spreadsheet is on my local hard drive and no one else is using it.

This Numbers document has always been in my Documents folder. But I copied it to my Desktop, then moved it back and I have the same "Saveing Issue" as shown above. It is really hard to believe that anyone using Numbers does not have this problem.

Day light Saving Issue

Hi,
I am facing an issue with Date and Time objects. This looks something to do with the daylight-saving (UK).
I have a date field in the database where a date is saved with time as 00:00:00, say for example 23/01/1999 00:00:00
Upon querying and getting the result set, I am getting the Date and Time objects using rs.getDate() and rs.getTime().
Date is obtained correcting as 23/01/1999 and the Time object is 00:00:00. But when I do a getTime() on Time object
to get the milliseconds, it returns as -3600000 which is an hour back. This is causing an issue here.
Can someone please suggest me if this is a daylight saving issue as we have moved ahead by 1 hour here in UK.
Or is this issue fixed in any of the latest jdk, I am using jdk1.5.0_12?

Please find the below code. Consider the date stored in the db is 23/01/1999 00:00:00
         Date dateValue = rs.getDate (COLUMN_NAME);
         if (dateValue != null)
               dateValue = new Date(dateValue.getTime() + rs.getTime (COLUMN_NAME).getTime());
         }Here, the dateValue obtained in line 1 is right which is 23/01/1999. Also rs.getTime (COLUMN_NAME) gives the time as 00:00:00 which is correct.
But when I do a getTime() on it to get the milliseconds it returns -3600000 which is one hour back.
So finally when i add the date milliseconds and time milliseconds to get a new date value, it goes back one hour because of the -ve value. In this case since time is 0, going back one hour will switch the date back by one day. Hence the dateValue which I get after executing this code is 22/01/1999 23:00:00 which is wrong.
Could you please help me on this?

Upgrading from CS3 to CS5. Issues with old file.

I design a monthly publication, which is always started from a InDesign template. This template was originally created in CS3 and all Incopy links were created using CS3 as well.
We updated to CS5 today and now we are unable to log into those stories. Here's the error message:
"this story needs to be converted to "InCopy Document" format in order to edit it."
Should I just unlink everything and create new InCopy Documents or is there a quick way to fix this?

I don't know, I think it's pretty quick.
Open the file in CS3.
Select all the stories in the Assignments panel (Shift-click to get them all). - 10 seconds
Click the Unlink icon (trash can) at the bottom of the panel. - 1 second
Close the file in CS3, doing a Save As w/another name if you want. - 5 seconds
Open the CS3 file in CS5. Save it, or Save As. - 20-30 seconds (depends on how big)
(Personally, at this point, even if I wasn't using InCopy, I would always export to IDML and then reopen it in ID CS5, saving the Untitled document with another name, since you're skipping a couple versions. But it's not necessary. If you do it, add another minute).
Choose Edit > InCopy > Export All Stories, 10-20 seconds, depending on how many it has to export.
The end. That's about 2 minutes, yes?

I am running W8.1 with Office 2013 and accessing a shared drive, When I try to save an excel document back to the shared drive - I get the error msg
"Someone else is working in "servername\share\filename" right now, please try again later"
I can see that there is no one else accessing this file at all. I created a brand new file, added content, saved and got the same error.
When I use a W7 with Office 2013 accessing the same share drive, accessing the same file - I am able to save the document without issues.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be. Both of these situations are while working from home using a company vpn connection. It does not happen when in the office using either W8.1 or W7.

Saves when saving locally. Its looking more like W8.1 on a VPN connection that is causing the issue. What can I look for
I mean you can try to save it to local drive(like drive c:) and then copy it to shared drive.
If you gain the access to the shared file server, you can check the file status when you open this file.
Also you can check your event log to see which process causes this error.
Since I'm not familiar with VPN, I'd suggest you post your issue to the following forum:

Illustrator CC Command and Saving Issues

HI,
My colleagues and I updated to Illustrator CC this week. We were hoping that the upgrade may fix an issue we have(in a seperate thread) and while it hasn't fixed it, it does seem to have created a couple more bugs as follows:
1. Certain commands such as cut, group/ungroup, zoom etc.. dont seem to work all the time by using the keyboard shortcuts. If I try a command and it doesnt work, I need to scroll the page over using the mouse slightly and then the command seems to work for a few moments. Sometimes I am needing to do this 3 or 4 times in one job which can get quite infuriating.
2. Sometimes when after openeing a file and adjusting the artwork, it is not giving the option to save(it is grayed out and the keyboard command doesnt work) and the file can only use 'Save As'
Stangley it doesnt seem to be happening on all our machines, we have 5 Macs running CC and only 2 have the Command Shortcut issues and only 1 seems to have the saving issue
Has anyone else had either of these issues or are aware of them? If so do you know of a solution or reason to the problems.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Saving issues in Flash cs5.5

Hi there,
I've been having an inconvenient issue with Flash 5.5 since I've started using it. I'll be working in a file - usually on the large size, but nothing insane - and I'll go to save, and Flash won't let me. (It gives some sort of error message stating it's unable to save.) So I try saving a new version - nope, same error message.
Then, I close out flash, unable to save anything, and I go to open my file again - oh look! There it is, saved just fine. And there's the new verison I saved, also fine.
Usually I end up working in the new version, but as the file gets larger, this tends to happen almost every save which - having worked in broadcast animation for 9+ years - is something I've been conditioned to do every couple of minutes on average. Which means every couple of minutes, I have to save a new version, wait, close out flash, re-open flash, find the new file...It's a realy pain, and I'd like to fix it. Is there a patch I can download, or another solution?

If you don`t already yuse the xfl file format instead of the fla, try this.
If possible dont use network drives for saving.

Cs5 PDF saving issues

I´m having trouble to save files in PDF format... every time that i try to save a file in PDF photoshop (cs5) crashes, tryed to save in other file formats and works fine it´s only the PDF files that give me problems

Photoshop CS5 Droplet Issues

So I have to pose this question to you all since we are having a rather massive problem at my work here with this. The company I am working for is a large automotive restoration parts company and we have 7 full vehicle catalogs. Here is a bit of the explanation to what is we are doing.
Basically what is happening is that we use droplets to convert images to CMYK profile for our printer, create a web jpg and thumbnail and place it in the appropriate folder for being transferred to our database. The action we are using for this is as follows.
Save For DB and Web
Save- to a location on our server
Convert Mode- RGB for web
Image size- to reduce the size for web
Export- as jpg for web
Image size- reduces size for thumbnail image for web
Export- adds _thumbnail behind part number
Close
We have 5 different droplets that do basically the same thing in the end. Our work flow here is nothing special but here is now it work. All images are placed on a server(Apple server running Snow Leopard Server 10.8.6) for use in our catalog(linked in to Indesign) all as EPS. For the web jpgs the images are transferred into a large folder which once a week or so we run a bulk loader in our database software for use with our website. Images are transferred to the web server and all is deleted once it database has the image imported.
Now here is the problem. Randomly the droplets will not make one or more of the files when it runs. Most of the time it is perfect and has no issues. Sometimes it will create the EPS and not the jpgs, other times it will create only the thumbnail and others just the EPS and web but no thumbnail. It is just random and across 5 different droplets(only difference between them is where the EPS is saved to, the jpgs are saved to the same place in all of them). We recently updated all the droplets to CS5 .app extension as before we though the issue was because we were running CS3 created droplets but the issue has not changed. I am running them on both an iMac and Mac Pro, both running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and they both have this issue. I am running the latest version of CS5 with all updates(have CS6 on order and will be trying that shortly). No once else has this issue like I do but I am running the most images on the droplets to place in the database so I think that is why I am seeing the most errors. One of my former coworkers was having this issue for years before I worked here and he was having them until his last day here. I am at a loss but I have a feeling that it has to do with the Apple Server that the department is using. I am not an apple fanboi at all and dislike using apple products but it is what I have to do in order to get work done so I continue to do it. So unless the computer knows I dislike it and is doing this as a form of revenge it has to be something. I personally think it is the server but I wanted to though out there to see what others think it could be.
I decided to make new droplets from scratch and have them saved onto a difference server as well as the original to see if it is a server. The second server that I am saving to has been perfect, while the normal server that is supposed to be is having issues. The server is the same controller, but has different RAID banks. The second server is limited access to only me and the other photographer I work with and is just a backup server.
Anyone have any ideas on what is going on or has encountered this issue before?

Yes, open a raw file with Photoshop's Camera Raw, then move the sliders around - e.g., Shadows, Highights, Blacks, Whites, to bring the extreme parts of the exposure in.

Illustrator saving issues: Previewing off Artboard

This is a somewhat complicated issue to explain so I've attached some images.
The basic gist of my issue is that when I "Save" an alteration of an already existing document, the document will preview things that exist off the artboard, and not even my full artboard. This is happening with increasing frequency and I can't figure out the root of this issue. The first picture I have attached to this post is how the file previews in Illustrator; the second is a screencap from the file open in Illustrator, where you can see the artboard in the center, and the art to the left that is being previewed (I have outlined the artboard in pink). The portion of the document that is being saved in the preview is not consistent either, so sometimes I will get no portion of the artboard visible in the preview. The interesting detail is that if I "Save As" my file, and over right the existing file it saves uncorrupted.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and have a possible solution?

whiteryanc, there has been a few othe post concerning this issue on the adobe forums with no real answer to why this is happening. The issue you have is an issue we have also. It all started once we updated illustrtor to CS6. We even went a step further and updated to illustrator CC to see if that would fix the issue. This did not fix it. There is a work around though. Instead of just saving the file after altering the file do a save as and replace the file. This seems to be working on my end.
