CS5- screen working area still turning black

I posted yesterday that my working area was turning black while cropping.  I downloaded the updated drivers and thought this took care of the problem but today while editing text, the screen continues to go black.  Now what?

Hi,
What is your video card as I did not see it in your old post?
The driver you downloaded did you download from the ATI site or Nvidia site?
I know you have Windows 7. Is this a store bought or home built computer?
Laptop?
More info please.

  • CS5- screen working area turns black when cropping?

I am using CS5 and Windows 7.  When I try and crop a photo, the working area turns black.  Here is a screen clip of what I see.  I then cancel the crop and will sometimes return to the move tool, click on the image, the black screen will return.  Any suggestions or ideas why and what to do?

    It's a display driver issue.
Have you installed the 12.0.1 update to Photoshop?
Have you updated your display drivers recently?
Have you tried disabling OpenGL drawing in Photoshop's preferences (to temporarily work around the issue)?

  • Why are my imported stills turning black?

Trying to create a slideshow in iMovie HD 6.0.3. However, every jpg file I import. loads, then turns black (completely black) in iMovie. Why is this? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Well, I figured it out! I feel kinda bad for starting a post, then figuring it out myself, but maybe someone else can learn from it as well?
*The photos you use HAVE to be in the same (exact same) folder as the working file.*
I'm a bit of a neat freak and tried saving two folders inside the same folder as the working file. Every time I tried importing the photos, they would load, then turn black. However, once I moved them directly into the folder WITH the working file, they imported just fine.
Here's to hoping that my experience can help others!

  • Pdf area patterns turn black when embedded

I have serveral vector pdfs that I need to merge together on a single page. Some of these pdfs have area patterns/tiles in them to represent vegetation, etc. When I first drop them into an illustrator file the colors (green, blue, etc) are displayed correctly. However, once I embed the pdf to delete the white clipping mask, the patterns/tiles turn black.
Is there a way to do any of the following?
    1) place a pdf in an illustrator file without the clipping mask showing up automatically or delete the clipping mask without embedding the pdf or
    2) get illustrator to not loose the color when the file is embedded or
    3) change the color of the pattern from black to the correct color (currently when I try to change the color it just gives the area a solid fill)

Apple's Preview is one of the worst PDF viewers ever. Standard advice for just about every problem is "use the FREE Adobe Reader instead".
    That said, I'm intrigued:
    > I have recently switched from Illy CS5 to CS6, so I wonder if that is the reason?
    Can you test this?
A PMS ink does not "have" a color to display on screen, since the ink name in itself is enough to unambiguously identify it (when printing as color separations, to be exact). But (1) one would appreciate a fairly accurate preview, and (2) sometimes one needs to convert a PMS ink to its nearest equivalent in CMYK. For that reason, an approximation of the ink used should be stored into the PDF as well. I can't imagine Adobe forgot about that for CS6 (if so, your file won't work with Reader either), but maybe they switched it to a notation that poor dumb Preview cannot handle. In that case, I'm curious about what the difference could be.
If you can create a small file that demonstrably works correct in Preview when exported from CS5 and *not* from CS6, can you post both PDFs somewhere?

  • HT4623 Updated my iphone 5 from ios 6.1.4 to ios 7.0.6. When I opened Music, played a song and then when I rotated the screen horizontally, it just turned black.

Like the title, It turned black when I rotated the Music screen horizontally, and it turned back to normal when I rotated it vertically. Please help me...I tried restored it again, but the problem remains.

Good grief.... I simply turned the phone off!!!!!
I will try this restore and see if it works as I have checked the headphone jack for debris and couldn't see anything and have done what I could to clean it out should there be anything in there...

  • IPod 4th Generation screen blank. iPod still turns on, just can't do anything.

Yesterday I was about to go out, I picked up my iPod and it somehow managed to jump out of my hands hit my foot and land on the floor. The screen popped out immediatly after it hit the floor. It fell about 5-6 inches. My sister dropped hers twice as much as I did from higher lengths and this didn't happen. The iPod itself still turns on. I just can't get the screen to turn on. I'm not even sure if I tried putting the screen on the correct way. I just tried connecting the LCD cable and snap it shut, I did eventually manage to get it shut, but the screen was still loose. How can I get my screen back and working again? Please help!

If you have virus protections software, try turning it off then doing this again.

  • Does anyone elses viewer still turn black?

Anyone? Am I the last person having this problem? When I upgraded to 1.5.2 a little while back it stopped. But it's come back with a vengance today. I can't work for more the half an hour before the dreaded black viewer rears its ugly head. After bringing a very small group of files (about 40) and doing a variety of editing task (crop, WB, exposure, highlight and shadow, etc.) it started giving problems. I've quit and restarted Aperture and rebooted my MAC. I don't even have a particulary large library yet, only about 2k files. I'm shooting a Canon 5D, mostly 12mp RAW format.
I've been all over this discussion group reading thread after thread about this issue and never found a definitive answer to the problem. Did I miss it? If so, please point me to it before I loose my mind. The only thing that I saw in common with some of the threads was a few people mentioned that they were doing a managed workflow (as am I). None of the machine configurations were identical. Could there be a difference in how Aperture operates when handling a managed as opposed to referenced workflow?
If it does turn out to be the graphics card that Aperture forced me buy that would really tick me off, since it's on Apples list of compatible cards.
    Anyone else?
Any insight would be great, thanks.
    Mike
    Mac G5 1.8 Single Processor Mac OS X (10.4.8) 3 gig RAM, Aperture 1.5.2, ATI 9800 Pro 256meg

Mike I myself kinda work with the same set-up as you do and I know of the problem you speak of. I rarely have had that problem anymore but only because I've learned of a few ways to avoid it by reading some of the previous post of other people experience. One thing I learned was when I use the Highlights / Shadows, or Crop photos, it usually begins to start making my photos go completely black. So I use those edit options till the end of my workflow. I'm not a professional photographer but I do love to take all of my photos in RAW. Also I edit in Aperture in Maximize Viewer mode instead of full screen which I feel helps. I scroll the divider from the image itself and thumbnail views so the Aperture windows is divided nearly in half. I've realized the smaller the Image I am editing is in the Viewer, the faster Aperture responds without any delays. Once I am done with editing I will then inspect them in full screen if needed.
Only after all my adjustments are made will I then begin to Crop the photos if needed, with the same Maximize Viewer Mode. Only at this point do I sometimes begin to experience the black out of Images. I usually just quit Aperture and come back later to Crop images as I edit photos for myself, not for business purposes. . I hope this helps and I hope I made sense it is 3:15 am here and I am tired but I know what your going through and wanted to offer help. Like I said most of this info I found by searching the forums from other people with similar experiences. With the way I work in Aperture lately following what I mentioned It doesnt really get on my nerves anymore with the blackouts as before cause I've learned to work with Aperture since I do not have the best Hard Core Mac set-up.
    Thanks,
    Tony

  • TS1367 My MacBook Pro when in sleep mode display turns black unable to wake.  When using the mouse it goes across screen like using an eraser and finding the middle of screen to get to the password area to turn back on.

really have a hard time when leaving the computer on when attending other matters in the house. When returning, the screen is completely black and unable to wake(?) by touching the mouse or touch pad to put my password and be able to use the computer.  When I move the mouse pad looks like I am using the eraser like in photoshop and it clears the screen little by little.  Now I am able to point to the middle of the screen and erase the area where the password is in order to get to the screen and use the computer again.  Anyone else having this problem?  Took the laptop to the apple store near home and they told me there is nothing that can be done and I have to wait untile the new operating system, Mountain Lion comes out and supposedly this will fix the problem.  HELP!!!!

I was so frustrated I call the Apple Tech Support and they walked me through.  It has been doing great.  The screen still turns black but now, when I touch the mouse or touch pad, I get the password prompt.  The Apple Store did not help but talking the the Apple Tech has helped a lot.  Thank you.

  • X freezes randomly, screen turning black or flickering

    Hey everyone,
I'm having this annoying issue where X freezes randomly, I can't tell exactly when it happens. But when it happens, the following occurs:
    - Screen is frozen, sometimes turns black, sometimes turns black and reappears, but still frozen.
    - Cursor and sound (e.g. music) still works
    - When switching to a new tty (CTRL-ALT-F6), I can log in and restart gdm using
    sudo systemctl restart gdm
    - When I'm in the other tty and trying to switch back to the graphical view, I get stuck completely, not even switching consoles works now.Reset is the only option from there
    - Blindly restarting gnome-shell doesn't work
I somehow have the feeling, it happens more often when I physically move my laptop, but thats just a gut feeling. It also happens often when my screen is locked and I try to log back in.
I found this bug report, but its quite old and that doesn't help me: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/14594
Any help would be very appreciated, its really annoying to lose my work so often.

  • Part of the screen turns black

Hi, I have a Lenovo x240 with Windows 7 professional. I am very happy with it except that, around 30% of the time when it wakes up from a sleep or a hibernate, about a fifth of the screen on the right turns black. To turn it back on, I have to do Function F7 to put  the output to duplicate or extend, where the entire screen is normal again, and then put it back to "computer only" to restore the resolution. That resolves the issue of the black screen, but it becomes annoying over time. I have installed the latest Lenovo graphics driver updates. That seemed to improve the situation, because before installing the updates, it happened around 50% of the time. I have also tested if the screen is responsive when it is black. It is responsive during this state, and it seems to be a display problem, and not a hardware problem. Has anyone encountered this issue?

    Hi Lenovouser12382,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with Display half blank not working on your ThinkPad X240.
Please check with uninstalling the graphic driver from control panel –program & feature option.
Boot the system into safe mode and check it once.
Please let us know the findings once you have performed the above steps.

  • Screen turns black after loading services

    Hi
After an update with pacman, then screen of my laptop turns black during boot. At first the screen is working, showing the services that are loaded. Then it turns black. In a flash it shows the messages again, but then it stays black. This happens both in the multi-user.target and in the graphical.target.
    I tried:
    1) Downgrade the nouvaux driver
    2) Full system update
    3) Switch from nouvaux to nvida driver
    4) Uninstall gdm
    But this did not help.
The graphics card is a nvidia GT 650
Below are the folowing log files:
    1) pacman.log
What could I try to get the screen working?
    Cheers,

  • Screen turns black after log in

    Hi,
My screen on my desktop turns black after logging in.  I can still see the cursor.  I hit ctrl alt delete, went to task manager typed in rstrui to do a system restore.  I went back a few months of restore but it did not work.
The strange thing is sometimes I wait about 30-45 min the black screen goes away.  But then restarting, I have to go through the same thing again.
Any ideas or help would be very much appreciated.
    Ryan

  • Screen turns black and freezes up on my nano.

I have a 2nd gen nano.  When I turn it on at first everything is okay.  Then if I turn it off and turn it back on again the screen flickers and then turns black (still illuminated though).  I have to hold the menu and center button at the same time until it resets.  I've done all of the troubleshooting including restoring it back to factory settings and it still is doing this.  Anybody know how to fix this?  TIA!
