CS5 shape resize bug?

I am using illustrator cs5 and there seems to be a rather annoying bug. I deal with icons and symbols a lot and putting them in a mock up. As part of my work flow I make the icon large, then shrink it down to fit in my comp.
so here are two images.
first is the icon that was created. I expanded the object to shapes and grouped them.
Then I scaled the group down to a smaller size.
The result is a very distorted image with parts missing. I don't know why this is happening if there is some way around this. I have noticed it happening in not as drastic situations but enough to drive me bonkers.
thanks in advance for any help.
Colt

I notice something about yur artwork so I did it a simialr way you did and scaled it as yyou did and the same results.
I used all strikes and the arrow head feature from the Stroke Panel and group and then scaled .
So instead of that I outlined the strokes and used the Pathfinder Unite Filter and got this
Then when I scaled that done I got this instead of the results you achieved
I agree I think it shoud hve scaled properly the first time but this maybe under the circumstances making it a compund path using the Pathfinder might a better approach.

  • Having the same text resize bugs in Fireworks CS5

Yes, that's right, the same terrible resizing bugs, that I have complained about directly to Adobe MULTIPLE times have not been fixed.
Now we are told there is no patch coming to windows for CS4. Problem still happening. And its not just me.
So now I downloaded CS5 and HAD THE SAME ISSUES!
    Seriously Adobe, sort yourselves out.
At my blog here, you can see it well documented. Literally the same issue I have occasionally with CS4. UNBELIEVABLY.
    http://allaboutchris.co.uk/blog/2010/bugs-in-fireworks-cs5/
Adobe, when is it getting fixed?

I don't have any problem resizing the text with the Scale tool as long as I hold down the Control or shift key while pulling at a corner with the double arrow cursor. If you pull vertically or horizontally you get just the kind of distortion I'd expect. That's not a bug.

  • Window Resize Bug In PS CS5 using CSXSInterface

    Hello,
I am developing a Photoshop Panel using the CS Flex SDK 3.4.0 which uses CSXSInterface.evalScript() to communicate with an Automate plugin. Sometimes this panel starts a timer to call use evalScript() to call a function in the plugin.
I have noticed that when the timer fires evalScript(), if the user is dragging or resizing any Photoshop window, the window snaps back to its original size and position. It is only possible to move or resize a window if evalScript() is not called at any time during the move/resize. At first I thought that the timer fires infrequently enough that this wouldn't be a large deal, but after testing for about a week, it happens more often than I'd like, and my testers find it extremely frustrating when it happens even once.
I'm developing on Mac using Photoshop CS5, but will be supporting both CS5 and CS5.5 on both Mac and Win before release. The panel doesn't work properly on Windows yet, so I don't know if this bug exists in Windows PS.
I have searched for a result for the past few days, and come up empty. At this point, I'm looking for one of the following solutions:
    1. Some way to stop CSXSInterface from yanking the window out from under the user. E.g., is there some property I'm not setting on the CSXSInterface shared instance that would fix this bug?
    2. Some way to determine if the user is holding down the mouse button anywhere on the screen. Right now I can only receive MOUSE_DOWN events when the mouse is over my panel, and I can't find a way to poll the mouse for its button state. If I knew that the mouse button was down, I could assume that the user might be dragging a window and reset the timer.
    3. Some other way of communicating with an Automate plugin. I experimented with using a socket connection between the panel and the plugin, but the automate plugin is run by the Photoshop plugin, and I can't find a way to get Photoshop to run code in the plugin at regular intervals (to receive and process socket data). If there was some kind of function I could expose to PS to call on a regular basis, I could use an alternate IPC.
Thank you for your time and advice!

I apologize for the double-post, but I have now tested the panel in Windows, and the bug is even worse. My panel has a couple text boxes, and if the user is typing in one of them when the timer fires, the text box loses focus and the user's keystrokes are interpreted as Photoshop keyboard shortcuts.

  • Resize animation in cs5 64 bit bug?

    Hello,
I'm trying to resize an animation I have larger, it has 12 layers, and 20 frames or so on each layer.  I'm using edit multiple frames and selecting them all, and it is working to resize them, but randomly it will delete one of my objects for a few of the frames.  When I scrub through the timeline after the resize, something is always missing, but it's always a random object and only for a few frames.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Well, I guess I can get it to work by inputting values in the properties panel, instead of using the scale handles in the viewport....weird.  Guess it's still a bug, though. Has anyone else seen this problem?

  • Probelm with InDesign CS5 table resize

I am having problems resizing tables in InDesign CS5.
The width can be in- and decreased, however the height just won't move up nor down when pulling in the lower right corner nor anywhere else on the columns baseline.
    Anybody else having this problem?
Is it a bug or maybe just me not understanding things correctly in the help section...?
Any input is appreciated so knock yourselves out. :-)

    Hey again!
I figured it out. Just made a complete new document and tried again.
This time everything works as it's supposed to.
I assume the problem has something to do with the fact that I overtook the job I am currently working on from a colleague and thus there was some form for corruption or similar.
At least when starting from a fresh it's all working fine again.
But you just gave me the idea to check this possibility so I rated your answer as helpful.
However I have no clue what to do with the old document in order to change that. I guess it's one of those InDesign mysteries that so often occur but I also assume that copying and pasting will be sort of a solution..., well here and now at least.
So unless you know what could be the reason for the corruption I'll thank you very much for your time and kind help.

  • CS5: Shapes behave strange when blurred and then duplicated

    Hello there,
I've encountered a strange behaviour (in PS CS5) when I created a simple shape with the shape tool, blurred it via the "Mask"-palette and tried to duplicate it with ALT+Drag:
The layer was duplicated, but only the original shape could be seen. All kind of strange things happened, even when I tried to go back in the history-palette. I had to go back before the "Blur"-Step to get everything working normal again.
When I don't blur the shape, everything works fine as expected. I can duplicate and move the shape/copies as much as I want. Autoselect layer/group is always OFF.
I tried this several times now and it seems to me that there is a bug somewhere. Can someone try to reproduce this behaviour?

    @JJMack:
Sorry, I'm using the German version (OS: Win7 x64), so I'm not sure about what the setting is called in the English version.
There is a slider in the "Mask" palette which's called "Weiche Kante", so I think it's the "feather" slider you mentioned.
Considering the procedure: I don't want to copy the vector mask, I want to duplicate the whole shape (layer) via selecting the layer in the palette and ALT+dragging the shape directly in the image.
This works completely fine as long as I don't use the "feather" slider (Result: I get a second shape and a copy of the shape layer in the layer palette as expected).
Changing the feather slider to a value > 0 everything gets messed up when using ALT+drag.
Thanks for your answer so far.
P.S.: There also seems to be a visual bug when overlapping two shapes on different layers with feather value > 0. See picture. (all shapes are identical)
But it's gone when saving, closing and reloading the file.

  • Terminal.app resize bug?

I use the Terminal.app to log into a Linux machine. I usually open up multiple tabs per window, and I run emacs in some of the terminal window. The problem is that when I resize the windows, often the window can not remember what size it's supposed to be, and sometimes switching from one tab to another triggers the window to resize to previous dimensions. It's particularly annoying when I start emacs in a tab that's confused in this way, because the window width that emacs thinks it is is incorrect, so emacs can not format the display properly. If I manually resize the window with emacs running, it snaps into place, but then the other tab gets confused.
I didn't have this problem, or it wasn't as noticeable on OSX 10.6.
Is there something I can do about this? This problem is really annoying, and Apple hasn't fixed the other Terminal.app bug I reported to them yet.

You could try iterm or iterm2
    <http://iterm.sourceforge.net/>
    <http://www.iterm2.com/>
You can always ssh -Y (or ssh -X) into your Linux system and export xterm's back to your Mac (although I'm not personally a fan of xterm, some people like it).
And of course there is always the gui version of emacs and have it export its X11 windows back to your Mac.
NOTE:  I am not an emacs user, so anything I say about emacs is based on things I read on the intertubes :-)
You could VNC to your Linux box (although that generally speaking requires a rather fast network corrected to be anywhere usable for an editing session), also the build-in Mac OS X VNC client (Screen Sharing) does not always play nice outside the Mac family, so you should consider alternative VNC clients, such as Chicken (formally Chicken of the VNC), JollysFastVNC, tightvnc (via MacPorts.org), to name a few.
Finally, if you feel there is a real bug in Terminal that needs to be addressed, please file a bug report with Apple so they will have a chance to see and maybe fix it

  • Workaround for JSFL shape selection bug?

There seems to be a bug in the document selection reporting in JSFL in  CS4 (haven't tested earlier versions).  I submitted it as a bug to Adobe  but I'd really like to find a workaround for it.  I've included my bug  report below.  Has anyone else encountered this?  If so, have you  figured out a workaround?  It's pretty annoying, making the tool I'm  working on really difficult to manage.
    ******BUG******
After performing a publish preview, fl.getDocumentDOM().selection  reports an incorrect selection of raw shapes.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Create a JSFL command with the following contents:
    doc = fl.getDocumentDOM();
    fl.trace("there are " + doc.selection.length + " items selected");
    2. Start the authoring environment fresh, with a new document.
    3. Draw several shapes on the stage, not touching each other, all in  the same frame and layer.
    4. Select one of those shapes but leave the others unselected.
    5. Run the previously created JSFL command.  It will send the following  text to the output panel, as one would expect:
    "there are 1 items selected"
    6. Do a publish preview (either Flash or HTML).
    7. When it comes up, close the preview window.
    8. Deselect all and then select one of the shapes (again, keeping the  others unselected).
    9. Run the JSFL command again.  This time, it will say that there are n  items selected (where n is the number of shapes you drew in step 3).   So if you drew three shapes, it will print out the following:
    there are 3 items selected
Note that this result will be the same even if you go to a different  document, do a publish preview on that document, then return to the  original.  It seems that simply doing a publish preview alters Flash's  state to report the selection incorrectly.
Results: The JSFL command reports that all the shapes are selected,  despite the fact that only one of them is.  The only way I've found to  get Flash back to its normal behavior is to restart the authoring  environment.
Expected results: In the steps above, the JSFL command should always  print out that there is one element selected.  There's no reason that  doing a publish preview should change that.

When selected all shapes in selection are treated as one. You can see it if you run this script with selected multiple shapes:
    fl.trace( fl.getDocumentDOM().selection[0].contours.length );
It will output you twise bigger number then selected shapes (because each Shape has two contours - one clockwise, other counterclockwise).
Of course this. implementation is strange for me too. Thats how i found your post

  • Why does Fireworks CS5 keep resizing images when I paste them?

I am having a problem in Fireworks CS5 where images that are copied and then pasted into a new document automatically re-size and become either very tiny or very large.
I have taken some screenshots to show this more clearly: (this website only allows me to upload images of 450 pixels across so they are not too clear)
Image 1: I have taken a large image and reduced its size to 100x100 pixels (highlighted in red).
Image 2: I have created a new document which is 100x100 pixels in size.
Image 3: I have copied the image from Image 1 (control + C) and then pasted it into Image 2 (control + V). The image was 100x100 and the new image was 100x100 yet when I paste the image it suddenly becomes 313x313 in size and is too large for the new image. Sometimes it becomes tiny when pasted and is too small for the document.
Can anyone help with this matter? Perhaps I am missing something obvious, but I have tried searching for solutions and tried a range of methods (different kinds of copy and paste etc), but nothing seems to help. Please let me know what I am missing!
Thank you for your help! As I said I am using Fireworks CS5. I am using Windows 7. If there is anything else you want to know just let me know.

I don't know what could be causing the copy/paste resizing issue, but here are a couple of ideas that may help with your workflow:
You can create a new document for animation by choosing File > Open..., selecting multiple images, and clicking the "Open as Animation" option. This will place each image file into its own State.
Consider using commands from the States panel fly-out menu—e.g., Duplicate State, Copy to States, etc.—to move objects from one state to another.
Other commands to copy objects within Fireworks include Edit > Duplicate and Edit > Clone. These do not involve the clipboard and may sidestep the resizing problem.
Sometimes with bitmaps, I like to convert them to symbols, as it allows me to resize the bitmap freely without losing the original resolution. (This might introduce extra steps, but it could allow you to correct the image size after it's been pasted incorrectly.)
It's a longshot, but I wonder if it would help to empty the clipboard contents once in a while, to clear out old data.

  • [CS5] Terrible InDesign Bug!

    Hi,
right now I have discovered a dangerous bug in InDesign CS5!
For some reasons my software use label property of Cell to store some automation informations.
After clearing overrides on cell style for this cell the label was changed!
Scenario 1 (can be proof manualy):
    1. Create a Table
    2. Edit script label and entry something
    3. Create a cell style (let's call it "Test1")
    4. Edit script label and clear it
    5. Apply "Test1" cell style to this cell - you will see overrides (+ symbol)
    6. Click on clear overrides - the start contents of label from point 2 is present again!
This is very IMPORTANT THING FOR AUTOMATION the label is NEVER changed by InDesign.
Imagine a document with tentausend links to a database stored in label of cells! - with simple clear overrides on the cells the whole work is lost whithout return!
Adobe - please fix it immediatly! - this bug was never bevore there since InDesign CS - first version of InDesign.
    regards

Nice ... Thx for pointing ...
    I wouldn't expect any fix soon ... They just don't care ...
Will be quicker for you if you find your own workaroud ...
For example copy of the table on another - hidden - layer ...

  • PS CS5 Shape Tool Hexagon Corner Smoothing

For the love of it I simply cannot figure out how to change the "corner radius" for the shape tool's polygon tool.  I set it to 6 sides and with SMOOTHED CORNERS off, it creates a hexagon as expected.
But if I turn on SMOOTHED CORNERS, it almost makes a circle, the corners are excessively rounded.  I see no option to control how smoothed/rounded these corners are.
When I lower this to 3 sides, I can see PS is heavily rounding the corners.  At this point, I simply don't think there's an option to do what I want here.  I know in AI, you can hold the arrow keys to add/remove corners and increase/decrease rounded corners, but PS CS5 doesn't seem to support that.

You might try this corner editor script
    (works really well)

  • Flash CS5.5 Display Bug

Have just installed CS5.5 on Windows XP3 - opened flash and tried to select a colour from the colour picker and saw the window in the screengrab.
More often there are no colours displayed. However it recognizes that I am hovering over different colours.
I've done some tests and found other issues.
Choosing a sub tool provided the following window.
When moving the Actions window, the display froze over the timeline
Graphics details: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 280 PCI
I do not expect to have to pay for customer service considering how much has been paid for the Master Collection Suite!!!
Please provide a solution to this bug.
(Same thing is happening with arrange documents and screen mode drop downs in Photoshop. Dreamweaver fine.)

PS. Switching to test under the "desktop" setting seems to be more reliable.

  • Photoshop CS5 - Image resize problem with move tool

    Hi People
    Here's my problem
When I try to resize an layer using the move tool (as opposed to the Free Transform tool), while I'm in the process of moving the scaling handles, the bounding box reflects my movement but the layer preview stays at it's original size. When I stop moving the handles there is a few seconds delay and then the new scale size shows up. If I try to move the handles again, without commiting to the transform, the layer preview reverts back to it's original size until I've finished moving the handles.
I didn't have this problem with CS4 and I've only recently upgraded. I work around this problem by using the proper Free Transform tool (ctrl+t) but it would be nice to know why the hell this happens. It seems to me to be more of a graphical glitch than a software preference but I thought I'd check just-in-case.
    Specs:
    Photoshop CS5 V12.1 x64
    PC
    Intel Xeon W3505 @2.53GHz
    Nvidia Quadro FX580
    12 GB RAM

I also read you you tried updating your video dirvers and your syste crashed and you had to roll back.   Make sure you have downloaded the latest correct drivers. If that does not work try turning off Open GL in photoshops preferences.
On my old XP 32 bit system CS5 movet tool with transform dialog does not fail like on your system. I can move the handles time and time again without commiting the transform. The only way to have Photoshop revert the transform back to the original state is to press the ESC key to cancel the uncommitted transform.

  • Pasting into Photoshop CS5 + Auto Resize

We copy a lot of existing elements from illustrator files into existing Photoshop documents. The dimensions of the Illustrator files are much larger, so we've always pasted into Photoshop and it resizes to the smaller photoshop document.
When I paste into the existing Photoshop document in CS5, I need the image/object to resize to my Photoshop document, instead of pasting in at the actual/original size.
Is there something I can change in preferences? Or a way to do this?

Yes many Photoshop users that know they know how Photoshop Place and Paste work. Even when they do know. Their actual understanding may not comprend the whole story yet. For they have may not had to seen all the variations of Place and Paste and haven't given the subject deep thought.
A lot has to do with size.   Many users think about size differently for there are several sizes when it comes down to it..   When Photoshop documentation states size its best to think "Print Size" You know this has to do document resolution and the number of pixels in the document. It what make the physical print size    When images are Pasted and Placed into some other document Photoshop maintains the new layers  "physical print size"  If the two document do not have the same resolution the image going into the document will be scaled to the receiving document resolution it does not mater how your Photoshop preferences setting are set.  There will be scaling size change made.   The result may or may not fit within the receiving documents canvas.  In the case of place if what is being place in does not fit. What does not fit may be scaled to fit within the receiving document canvas size.  Place images are smart object layers and the object pixels are the original ones for the object.  All smart object layers have a single transform associated with them. This transform may or may not scale the original image.   Image that have the same resolution may just be scale to 100% and have not change in number of pixels.  When the object being place is larger the canvas size depending on the Photoshop's Preference Place object resize option the object may be resized to fit within canvas its print size will be different then the original object.  Its only when you have been puzzled by some Photoshop's Places and Paste operation that you deepen your though process and inveterate the subject thoroughly that you see the whole story
Target a placed in image smart object layer  and use the free transform shortcut key to see the current associated transform. Look in the option bar at its scale setting it may surprise you.
I will admit my knowledge was very faulty till I started scripting place and had to deal with how Photoshop did the operation. I had a lot of problems till I realized what was happening. I then realizes that I could scale the placed object to 100% get it back to its original pixels then transform these pixels to where I needed them to be and scaled to the size I needed.
As wrote I don't have AI. Since AI is an Adobe product  when you use copy in AI and paste in PS  I can beleive that Photoshop may well know that the clipboards contents were copied there from AI and Photoshop may give you options like to use paste or place.   I would think any resizing done to the clipboards pixels is done by Photoshop not AI.
