CS5 stabilized R3D's are blurry/unusable. Help!

I've been researching this problem and trying everything I can think of for two days with no results. The issue is that R3D clips that are stabilized in AE CS5 export out as too blurry to use. And no I don't have motion blur turned on.
My workflow is to stabilze the R3D clip using the built in stabilizer and then to export it out using uncompressed settings whether quicktime or AVI or even Cineform. I place those clips on the Premiere timeline and they look terrible.
This is a real problem at this point because I have masses of aerial footage to stabilize and I have to find an answer. Although I'm going to now try Mocha, it does not accept native R3D files or Cineform so I end up having to encode to intermediate codec.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I am surprized that no one gave you a correct answer.
In order to get good results from stabilization routines regardless of the software you are using is to shoot at a high enough shutter speed. The shutter speed depends on the lens you use. As a minimum shutter speed should be for times the focal length of the lens you shoot with. For example: if you are shooting with a 28 millimeters lens your shutter speed should have been at least 1/125 of a second. This of course depends on how much motion was in the original footage.
The frame rate has no relation to the ability to stabilize the footage. Only the shutter speed is what matters. The reason why footage looks blurry to you now is that after you stabilized it a motion blur caused by camera motion and and possibly the vibration of a helicopter is now visible and not masked by the movements of the image. When shooting from a helicopter I would recommend using as high of the shutter speed as possible as high as 1/1000 of a second or even higher. This of course will lead to rather stroby looking footage. You will have to either live with it or use a plug-in like Kronos motion blur or time warp without applying retiming but using a motion blur option with a 180° setting.
Another reason for you footage to look blurry now is that it is often necessary for the stabilization software to zoom in on crop the picture. This is by design. There is nothing you can do about it. The only way to workaround it is to reduce the amount of the motion stabilization applied to the picture. You would need to find a balance between stabilities and and the image sharpness. Also, there is a setting in a Premiere Pro CS5 for the resolution of the footage display. If you are setting is lower than the full resolution for either playback or paused footage, the picture can look significantly blurrier than it really is. This is done to ensure smooth playback, sometimes smoothness of a playback is more important than the sharpness of the image for the editing purposes.
Hope this helps, cheers.

  • I recently received my new iPhone 4 from my carrier since my old one was stolen. I restored my new iPhone from my old iPhones iCloud back up but now all the pictures that were stored in my old phone are blurry in my new phone. Please help!

Luckily, using the "Find My iPhone" app, I was able to scare the thieves into bringing my iPhone back to the place they stole it from (Dave and Busters..on my BIRTHDAY OF ALL DAYS). So now, $169 later (deductible for replacement iPhone), I have both my 1st iPhone and my replacement. On my first iPhone, I have all of my pictures saved and they are very clear, but when I restored my replacement iPhone from my original iPhones iCloud backup, all the pictures that I took in my original iPhone are blurry! I thought about backing up my original iPhone through iTunes and then resetting my replacement iPhone and restoring it from my original iPhones settings but I dont want to lose all of my new pictures I took. I know this sounds confusing (well, it looks confusing, since you cant actually hear me) but I could use all the help I can get!

No such thing has occurred.  iPhones do not backup to one another.
It is not possible to backup a different iPhone from the one being updated.
If the iPhone was restored with a backup from a different device, restore it again from the correct backup.

Pay attention when restoring the iPhone and select the correct backup to restore from.

  • My back screen is red with white apple sign, and apps are blurry, anyone else have/had issues?

My back screen is red with a white apple, apps are blurry, has anyone else had this issue?

Did you drop your iPad or bang it against a hard surface maybe? It seems to me like it's a hardware issue. But anyway, try a reset and see if that helps at all - assuming that you didn't drop the device that is.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If it's a hardware issue, it can't be fixed, but in order to determine what it is for sure, you may need to make an appointment at an Apple Store and have the iPad evaluated.

  • Some applications are blurry

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7547 and when I open some applications, usually games, they are blurry. I already tried going to properties>compatibility, but the compatibility tab is missing for one of my applications so it remains blurry. The other ones are fine though.

    Hi,
    Thank you for the response.
You may try few steps to isolate the problem
Update the video driver and BIOS to the latest version
Try running any other games or software which are not downloaded through steam
Try uninstall and reinstalling the Steam app
If the issue started recently, We can try system restore to that date to check if that help
As a last step, We may try running a complete hardware diagnostics by tapping F12 during the startup Dell screen, Select Diagnostics from the list, Check if it passes
Should the diagnostics comes up with any error code, Please send a private message with the computer's service tag.

  • PDFs are blurry after installing Win8.1

I just installed Windows 8.1 and now all of my PDF's are blurry when I open them in reader. Is there a solution that I should know?

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test Netflix in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled ''(Flash and other plugins still run)''
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?
In case your settings restrict Netflix's ability to set cookies or use local storage, you could simulate default settings by opening it in a private window while you're in Firefox's Safe Mode. That should let sites run normally but discard their cookies and local data after you close the private window.
You can open a private browsing window using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+p
    * File menu > New Private Window
    * orange Firefox button > New Private Window
    Any difference?

  • When importing photos from aperture photos are blurry

I have been making a video and up to now no problems. Then today i was working on it and when i started adding some more photos from aperture they were fuzzy and blurry.
In aperture they are crisp and clear but the minute i put them in imovie they are blurry and not useable.
I have imported photos from aperture and iphoto both and had no issues so not sure what is going on today.

I think I just figured this out.
Go into Aperture preferences and go to "previews" tab.  Set "photo preview" to "don't limit" and turn the quality all the way up.  Then select all your photos, go to the "photos" menu, hold down the option key and click "generate previews".
It appears that the library sharing is just using the generated previews from Aperture which default to poor quality.  You need to turn up the quality and then force a re-render of all your previews.  iMovie should pick this up (but won't update your slideshow...).
Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed by those defaults.   Wasted hours of my time as I rebuilt the slideshow with better versions of my photos.
    Hope that helped.

  • When I try to publish a video in CS5 it adds the extension .new. Help please!

When I try to publish a video in CS5 it adds the extension .new. Help please!

Your video is encoded in a format that PS doesn't understand. It's as easy as that. AVIs are just containers that can contain a multitude of different CoDecs and settings. You will have to do some reading up on that matter and then use external programs like VirtualDub, MPEGStreamclip and otehrs to convert your file to something PS understands - if that realyl is what you need. Otehrwise simply move on to "real" video editing apps that can handle all that much better.

  • PC and OS switch, now Bridge previews are blurry

Yesterday I (well, my son--not me!) moved my Photoshop CS4, Bridge, ACR, LR2 to a new PC. Operating system changed from XP to Windows7.
Previews are blurry; I cleared cache, in Preferences, I've got Monitor Size Previews selected, Software Rendering Deselected (Selecting it made no difference). Video Card is GeForceGTX 285.
    Thanks!

Some individual jpg's are blurry. If I right click and delete cache for  that individual image, I get the crisp preview. What gives? I thought  that clearing the cache meant clearing all of the cache? I can live with  this.   All cache is not created equal.
There is the central cache which is the main cache and you can purge it in the cache window.  If you have cache exported to folders that cache is not purged.  To purge both cache you need to go to Tools/cache/purge cache for xxx folder.
If you get no preview for CR2  files you probably have either no Camera Raw (ACR), have more than  one ACR or have ACR in wrong folder.
Open PS and in Help click on about plug-ins and camera raw.   Will tell you what version you have.  Should be 5.x for CS4.

  • Prior to importing photo's should the thumbnails be of a low quality such that they are blurry?

Prior to importing photo's should the thumbnails be of a low quality such that they are blurry?
I have recently started to use lightroom and when selecting a folder to import from my hard drive the thumbnails are of (in my opinion) very low quality. Once they are imported they are fine, is this correct?

The import dialog is there to help you locate And identify the images that you want to import. They are not high quality previews. You shouldn't consider using the import dialog to determine the quality of any image. Use it to identify your images and get them imported. Then let Lightroom generate its own previews.

  • My photoshop thumbnail is pixelated and blurry! HELP

im having to make a thumbnail in photoshop CS6 that is 125x100 & 72 DPI. When i put the image together the words are blurry and pixelated. im not sure why this is happening or how to fix it..
this is the thumbnail at 125x100 and 72 DPI which is the directions given and its so pixelated!

I see nothing "blurry" or "pixelated" there.  What I see is slightly jagged text, which is not surprising at such a small size at such a low resolution (72 ppi).  That is normal and expected behavior.
Try different fonts and check your text options to make surer the text is antialiased to the degree that it can under the circumstances.
It would help to know if this is going to be printed or if it's just for the screen (web).  Please clarify.

  • Photos in slideshows are blurry:

Please help me out!  Every time I make a slideshow using my photos and play it back, as well as when I put the slideshow on a CD, the photos are blurry!!!  My camera is a digital Nikon D40X and I have tried all different kinds of settings, but nothing works!   I paid a lot of money for this program, and I have hundreds of beautiful photos that I want to put in slideshows and it is not working!!!   This is the main reason I bought photoshop elements 10, and if this doesn't work, I have wasted my money!!!

I get great results especially playing DVD’s of my photos on the TV.
I admit you need the combo PSE/PRE for best quality and best output options.
