CS5 Student Upgrade

Hi, does anyone know if there is a student upgrade price too, or just a student price to buy design premium in its entirity?
Also, is there a number I can call to ask about a free update since I just bought CS4?

Hi, Mr. Isaacs. Great of you, as Adobe Systems' famed principal engineer, to have replied to this question. You might have noticed that there are a number of other similar posts asking about various CS5 student upgrades elsewhere on the Adobe Forums. Of course you're not in marketing and don't set pricing, and I understand the company's logic as you state it to a point, but the logic seems incomplete. My son, who's now in his first year at an arts high school and for several years has been taking and will continue to take design and publishing courses, received his copy of CS4 Design Premium's student edition for Christmas. (Santa saved like crazy all year.) He will be a student, most probably, for the next 10 years, going through postgraduate. Given Adobe's usual 18-/24-month release cycle, it's also probable that he will see not only CS5 but also CS6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 come out before he is no longer a student. Given Adobe's constant re-engineering his CS4 will have become woefully outdated for new learning purposes in less than half that time. So you might see why I say "incomplete"--the idea that a student would buy a student version, and a couple years later would no longer be a student, is sometimes or even often not the case. On the other hand, I'm guessing Adobe has considerable trouble with professional (non-student) use of these versions, and given the steep discount Adobe already provides on the full student versions asking for upgrade pricing for students might seem a bit of the fisherman's wife. But if Adobe does want students to keep at or near the cutting edge in digital design, and if there might be some profit for Adobe if students were able to upgrade with each or every other new version rather than, because of cost, staying with the same antique version they've been using for years, perhaps Adobe might consider introducing student upgrade pricing. Thanks so much! Kim p.s. You might show off your gorgeous Garamond by adding it to the Forum font dropdown.

  • Can I upgrade from a CS5 Student Edition (PC) to CS6 Mac?

    Hi, quick question:
Some time ago I bought CS5 (student edition) for my PC. I've never opened the box, so it's uninstalled.
I'm getting a mac (it arrived today actually) and I'd like to be able to install photoshop on this. Since it's a different platform, can I upgrade from my current version without having to buy the full-priced CS6 for mac?
Basically, could I: install my student edition on my pc, get the student verification code (I'm still a student), and then not just go through the upgrade process to CS6 but also cross platforms from pc to mac?
OR: could I install the pc version, upgrade to CS6 (still pc) then crossgrade that?
Would it be the same cost?
    Thanks so much

There are no upgrades for student versions. If you are still eligible you simply buy a new CS6 license for Mac.

  • Upgrade CS5 Student (DE) to CS6 Retail (EN)?

Well, I've read it's basically possible to upgrade CS5 Student to CS6 Retail (is it?).
But what happens if the languages are different? I have a german CS5 Student Edition, and I plan to upgrade it to CS6 Commercial/Full/Retail, but the english version (slightly cheaper):  65158519AD01A00.
Will there be any problems with this difference in language?
    Thanks in advance...

I rather wanted to buy from a official german software reseller here in germany, not from adobe itself.
So there is just the offer number 65158519AD01A00 (also findable via google) for "Adobe Photoshop CS6 englisch Upgrade",
a TLP license for upgrading Photoshop CS5 or Photoshop Extended CS5.

  • Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Design Premium Student Upgrade?

I bought a student edition of CS3 Design Premium.
After purchasing it I found that I only use the Photoshop part of the Suite.
Am I able to upgrade the Photoshop portion, upgrade the complete Suite or do I have to purchase a new student copy of  CS5 Photoshop.
    Thanks in advance.

Bob -- I appreciate your bad news
Looks like I'll qualify for a teachers copy of CS5 -- I guess I'll pick one of those up.
I had a quick glance at your article & am sure that both I & my children (students) will find it of use.
Best to you & thanks again.

First things first...there are no student upgrades. If you're still eligible you can buy the software at student prices.
In the case of actual upgrades, no, you can't upgrade an individual sutie component.
I have an article on my web site that might be of interest to you: http://www.theindesignguy.com/purchase-advice.shtml

i purchased cs5 in 2011, and i now have the mac.  i see you can upgrade from cs5 to the newest edition, but what im concerned about is if it will work to go from the pc to mac and also since im upgradeing cs5 "student edition" to cs6? does that make sense....?

  • CS5 Student & Teacher Editions & Commercial use (in Australia)

specifically student editions not educational version.
I know that in CS4, commercial use is only valid in the USA.
It looks like the older "education version" is no more in CS5 and is replaced? by "Student & Teacher Edition".
I have read in the FAQ from the USA Adobe website that this is allowed for commercial use:
    http://www.adobe.com/education/students/studentteacheredition/faq.html
I have also seen the UK Adobe site that it is allowed for commercial use:
    http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/students/studentteacheredition/faq.html
the image is broken on this link. is this just a template that has been copied over from the USA website? or is this the official thing?
I am from Australia and the FAQ has not been updated and still shows information for CS4.
clicking on FAQ from this link on the australian site of Adobe links to the CS4 FAQ:
    http://www.adobe.com/ap/education/solutions/students/studentteacheredition/
    which is this link: http://www.adobe.com/ap/education/students/studentedition/faq.html
though after some digging I have found the Australian link to the new FAQ but it also has a broken image and im not exactly sure if its the read thing or just a template again:
    http://www.adobe.com/ap/education/students/studentteacheredition/faq.html
    they all state:
Can a student or teacher use the Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software for commercial use?
Yes. Those who purchase this product can use it for personal as well as commercial use.
I havent found anything about "only in north america" stuff.
anyway, i would assume that any purchase of CS4 now would have a free upgrade to CS5, right?
If i purchase CS4 student edition (which here in australia isnt allowed for commercial use) and then get a free upgrade to CS5 (student & teacher edition (i would assume this would be the version CS4 student edition would get for the free upgrade? and assuming that commercial use of CS5 is now allowed in Australia for Student & Teacher Edition) would that mean that I can now use my CS4 student edition that was originally not allowed for commercial use then now be allowed for commercial use when upgraded to CS5 student & teacher edition?
I hope that makes sense and doesnt confuse too much.
I also posted up a thread about my eligibility if im a student that has finished classes and waiting to just graduate now. I was wondering if I may still be considered an eligible student to purchase.

Hi, I think I have found an answer to this but I would still like to have it confirmed by someone from Adobe (please).
    I found a post at http://www.hellophoto.co.nz/showthread.php?3223-Lightroom-3-is-now-out&p=32387#post32387
Where someone in the forum says they contacted Adobe NZ about this:
I asked Adobe about the answer to the question about commercial useage - this was the reply I got
This has caused some confusion as we have recently
changed the policy around this. You are correct that it used to just be
in the US however in CS5 we have changed this to be the case for all
    regions.
In NZ Student and Teacher licenses can be used
for commercial use both during study and after students or teachers have
finished/left. I.e. a teacher can do freelance work on the side and
still be eligible for the student and teacher pricing.
When the next version of CS is released students
who have finished their studies or teachers who have left the institute
can upgrade to a commercial version at the upgrade price.
We do not require them to upgrade so if they wish
they can stay on CS5 indefinitely, when they do decide to upgrade they
will need to purchase a commercial license. We have tiered upgrade
pricing though so it works out cheaper for them if they do upgrade
    straight away.
The main condition for Student and teacher is
that it is installed on a private computer so cannot be installed at an
institute (school, uni or poly). Instead, educational institutions must
    purchase the Education version.
Student and teacher licenses are for home use on
private computers for educational or commercial purposes for that one
person. There is no serial number in the box and verification is
    required.
Educational licenses are for use on an education
institute’s (schools, unis or polys) computers, this is for educational
use only and does not include commercial use. Single teachers should not be purchasing this type of license, the only people who should be buying educational licenses are educational institutions.
I teach Photoshop and Illustrator at a Uni in Australia and would really like to be able to tell students if they can use the Student and Teacher editions for commercial use - If the above is true I think this is a very clever move by Adobe but it would be really good if they made it a bit clearer.

  • Photoshop CS5 Student - Premium

I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 Student edition and noticed there are some are some features not offered as in the premium version of CS5. I would like to know is there a way I can "Upgrade" to CS5 Premium without having to pay $700 but even rather just tack on another $500 for and upgrade or something of this sorts. Any advice would be very usefull for me, Thank you in advance.

What specifically do you think you are missing in the Student Edition as opposed to the standard retail version of the product? The two are identical in terms of functionality.
Or perhaps are you comparing Photoshop versus Photoshop Extended? In that case, the difference is primarily that Photoshop Extended supports a plethora of 3D features. And that's it.

  • CS5.5 upgrade or just InDesign upgrade?

I just downloaded a trial upgrade for InDesign CS5.5.  It looks like I need to run that in order to work in my new Lion environment.
Does anyone know if it's worth upgrading the full suite? It doesn't look like my other workhorses, Illustrator and Photoshop, are improved.
If I only upgrade InDesign now, will I be able to upgrade my full suite later when new program versions are added?

  • InDesign CS5.5 upgrade

I currently have InDesign CS4 Design Premium. I purchased and downloaded the InDesign CS5.5 upgrade as I only want to update InDesign and not the entire Design Premium package, but when I try to activate I am told I can't. I suspect this is because the serial number I have for my existing Design Premium package is not recognized as being InDesign CS4 only. Can someone please assist? I can upgrade just a portion of the Design Premium package, right?

Ok so there is a way. Call Adobe (who were very very helpful) And they will obtain a special allowance for upgrade of a single component of indesign. Over the phone they will cancell your serial number and give you a new one. This apparently is the only way to do this. I have just done this and it worked. It makes sense to be able to just upgrade one (what if you only use indesign and cannot justify the costly entire collection upgrade when photoshop is still cs5 anyway. Try that and be very clear on phone that this is what you require. they should be helpful

  • Font names are invisible in Ai CS5 after upgrading to OSX 10.10 Yosemite

    Hello,
I am having a minor drawback on Adobe Illustrator CS5 after upgrading my iMac to OS X 10.10 Yosemite. The thing is when trying to select a font form a Type>Font selection mostly all font names are invisible. This only happens in Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign works fine. I have attached a screenshot of what I am  seeing: after hovering with my mouse pointer over the particular font the name appears, but otherwise not.
I will also address this issue to Apple support as well.
    Waiting for your reply.

I believe post #15 in this thread may give the solution.
