CS5 to CS6 install

I have CS5 (extended) on my computer now. I just bought CS6 (not extended) thru Amazon.com (no Cloud involved). I would like an explanation of how the installation process goes. Does CS6 override or uninstall CS5?
And is it possible to have both CS5 and CS6 on the same computer at the same time? I do know that I can install Phoroshop on two computers, I just have to decide whether I want to do that.
Thank you

I can (and sometimes do) run multiple versions of Photoshop on my Mac.  You just have to launch the older version(s) first.
EDIT:  As a precaution, I assign different drives as scratch disks for each version that is running.

  • I cant install adobe master collection cs5 or cs6 in maverick 10.9.4

i cant install adobe master collection cs5 or cs6 in maverick 10.9.4, i cant install, the instalation stop in 4% in adobehelp ... any idea?

I can't get into the installation menu. The third CD does work correctly, i'm not sure about the second CD. Is it possible that the CD is broken? Like maybe there is one file missing or something I don't know.

Have you tried to install in English instead of Dutch? Did you check the various tips from the knowledge base? Can't see anything obvious here - it seems to correctly recognize everything but then still refuses to install... Mylenium

  • Error on Installing CS5.1, CS6 - Exit Code 15, ERROR: Media DB Error 6

Hi. I am trying to install Photoshop CS6 trial on my machine (win 8 x64) but all the time it returns the error:
    Exit code : 15
    Summary
    - 0 fatal error(s), 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)
ERROR: Media DB Error : 6
I have already used all the steps described on the forum (restarting the PC, downloading again the app, using Adobe Clean Tool) and no success. I even tried to install Photoshop CS5.1, but it goes with the very same error.
I currently have Fireworks CS6 installed, which I managed to install several months ago without a problem. However, when I try to uninstall it, it shows me also an error message:
    UNINSTALL FAILED
    Your uninstallation encountered errors.
    Troubleshooting tips:
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Exit all applications [...]
    3. Uninstall again.
You may also download & run the Cleaner Tool. If the problems persist, please contact Customer Support for further assistance.
Well... here I am, Customer Support!
I can't seem to make this thing work. I've passed my whole weekend reading about it on the web and no solution found whatsoever. How can I sort it out, please?
    Thank you,

After using the Adobe Clean tool, I checked its output log and it mentioned it couldn't find a "caps.db" in the Common Files/Adobe/caps/ folder under Program Files or Program Files (x86).
So what I did: I manually deleted the Adobe folders from:
    - Program Files
    - Program Files (x86)
    - Program Files (x86)/Common Files
After that, I was able to install successfully Photoshop CS5.1 and at this very moment I'm able to install PS CS6 (it's been already 50% of the installing progress).
So far, this action of deleting the Adobe folders from my Program Files folders seems to be sorting out the matter...

  • Do I need to uninstall CS5.5 before installing CS6 apps from Creative Cloud?

The video suggests you uninstall any Beta versions but says nothing about previous version of the apps.

Hi. I left CS5 on, installed CS6. There was a problem with the shortcuts but both CS6 and CS5 work. What I just found was that although files (.jpg in this case) opened through Bridge CS6 in Photoshop CS6, Windows Explorer still has CS5 associated with opening the file type. I could change that file type by file type but would guess there's a better way to get all file associations moved from CS5 to CS6. Thanks!

  • I'm trying to install my copy of CS5 under CS6 because

I'm trying to install my copy of  CS5 under CS6 because my new Canon Pixma Pro-10 will not install a plugin of PrintStudioPro in CS6 but does install it in CS5, but the Adobe website says my SN for CS5 is correct but will not recognize it. Where do I turn? This question is not addressed by any of your question options. I have had a registered copy of Photoshop since v2.0, skipping CS4. Now where do I turn? phone 808-455-1626, or email: [email protected] Please help!

And what actualyl is the problem? Does CS5 refuse the serial? Your blurb is confusing. If it's merely an install issue, run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and install the programs in proper order, starting with the older version.

  • Do I need to uninstall CS5 before I install CS6

I started to download CS6 apps, thinking they would upgrade my old CS5 apps. This does not seem to be the case since now I have both CS5 and CS6 apps at the same time or did I do something incorrect?I have subscribed to CS5 for over a year now. Just wanted to make sure.

wondered if I needed my old software on it before upgrading.
    No.
"Upgrades" are all full versions of the software. They don't depend on prior versions being installed in order to function. Upgrade licensing just means you pay less because you already own a previous qualifying version.
In the case of Creative Suites (CS5, CS6) "upgrade" only refers to the serial number.
In the Creative Cloud there are no serial numbers. They're activated via your Adobe ID. The versions available in the Cloud (CS6, CC and CC 2014) are all full versions containing full executable code.

    Hi Kenton,
Adding to what James mentioned, this stands true for both Lightroom and Photoshop. In other words, you don't need to necessarily install the previous versions but while installing the latest versions, in this case Lightroom 5 & PS CS6, you will need the serial keys for previous versions as well along with the current ones.

  • CS5.5 and CS6 Installed on MacBook Pro, Is that the problem?

Much functionality is reduced in Lightroom, Bridge and Illustrator. The most annoying is that the mouse no longer left clicks in the CS6 Applications. Can anyone offer help? Thank you.

Obviously you can read, you just did not read the header. That explains my problem. Both CS5 and CS6 are installed on the MacBook Pro. I wondered if that was causing functionality problems. Besides, you're quite rude. I don't know how you got such a good rating eith a bully attitude. Maybe you should stop, slowdown and rethink your answers sir. Good day.

  • Upgrade from cs5 to cs6 will not install

Hi, I purchased and downloaded the upgrade from CS5 to CS6 including the Akamai installer. but the upgrade will not install and I am unable to contact Adobe anywhere for a solution to my issue.  I have uninstalled CS5 using Adobe CC Cleaner and it still won't install.  Help!!!

    Upgrade from CS5 to CS6
    I downloaded 2 files;
    Photoshop_13_LS16.exe   1.2MB
    Photoshop_13LS16.7z    1.1GB
    plus the instructions file
(I've downloaded these files now 3 times and tried them all)

  • Do I need to unistall CS5 prior to installing CS6 from disk. Thanks

Do I need to unistall CS5 prior to installing CS6 from disk. Thanks

Any Adobe Desktop applications don't overwrite the older version while installation. They install in seperate folders. You can Install and use CS5 and CS6 on the same computer, even simultaneously.

  • CS6 install quits, says to close CS5

I asked the sales person before purchasing CS6 app. and was tolk I did not have to un-install CS5; however, during install of CS6, it stops and says to close CS5!   Thanks, George

restart your computer.  then, before doing anything else, install cs6.

  • Uninstalling cs5.5 to install cs6

If i install cs6, will it over write cs5 or will i need to uninstall cs5 and then install cs6?

Creative Suite 6 will not affect your installation of Creative Suite 5.

  • If I upgrade Cs5 to CS6 can I install it on two computers like my CS5 is?

I purchased CS5 before CS6 came out and the version I have (suite? individual?  I can't tell which it is from the website or from the box my CD came in) let me install it on two computers.  I would like to upgrade to CS6 but would like to be able to upgrade both versions.  I took online courses for CS5 and there are now courses for CS6 available.  I can't find my answer anywhere after searching for a couple of hours.  I can purchase the upgrade but there is nothing to say if I can upgrade both the computers.  Does the upgrade allow for upgrading two computers?

    Hi Margaret,
According to EULA you can install it on 2 machines, provided you are not using them simultaneously.
    Thanks

  • I have a new laptop and want to install a copy of CS5 or CS6 on it to do my homework at work.

Basiclly I upgraded from 32-bit to 64 bit and want to use my CS5 or CS6 suites on it. Can this be done or do I have to purchase a whole new copy of either one?
I don't want the cloud thing, internet is not always available.

Unfortunately I need 5 and 6 on both machines. I work full time and the only way to stay on top of homework is to do it during my lunch and breaks.  I mainly need Photoshop and After Effects.  I purchased CS6 Premium from the school but it did not have After Effects in it so I still us the CS5 version.
Products are way too expensive to be buying new ones for my machines every time I get change laptops or desktops.
The version I bought for CS 6 was a buy the serial, download the version.  Can't find the 32-bit version if there is one (which after CS4 is not made anymore I believe).
So I guess I'm stuck then...

If you didn't have the opportunity to deactivate the installations then you should contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations for all the serial numbers involved.
Chat support - For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...
Make sure you are logged in to the Adobe site, have cookies enabled, clear your cookie cache.  If it continues to fail try using a different browser.
