  • How to update pantone plus library

I'm having trouble locating updated pantone plus libraries in adobe's website.

They are not available separately, they ship with Photoshop. The latest versions get the updated libraries. You may want to consult Pantone and see if they offer this.

  • Pantone books in CS5 vs Pantone Plus books in CC

    Hi All,
After a recent upgrade from CS5 to Creative Cloud, I created a new graphic using our corporate Pantone Colour (PMS 541u), but when I sent it to (digital) printing, I discovered that it did not print the colour we were expecting.
I understand that the new Pantone Plus books no longer have CMYK values attached to the PMS colours, instead they only use LAB colours, so rather than the old way of printing using the CMYK values linked to the spot colour chosen, it now converts the Spot colour to a LAB colour, then to a CMYK colour that is completely different to the CMYK values linked to the 'old' PMS colours.
Given that it is imperative for us to ensure that our  corporate colours reproduce as close to the colours on our packaging (there are 20 different products that are printed in true spot PMS colours), this makes it very difficult to match colours now.
I have tried using the new 'colour bridge' colours, but again, they're completely different to the old PMS colours and the new Plus colours. We use both coated and uncoated stock, so we need both the 'u' and 'c' CMYK values depending on what stock we're printing on.
here is an example of the variation in colour (PMS 541) that i'm experiencing, both on screen (yes I know it's not an accurate representation), and when printing digitally.
I don't particularly want to remove the new colour books and replace them with the old ones as is suggested in a few work arounds, as I want to ensure that we're using the most up to date colour profiles/books etc.
Can someone please explain what is the best way to achieve an accurate colour match when converting from PMS to CMYK for process printing?

I'd say that the answer to your final question isn't to use the old colour books. In fact, the newer, LAB-based ones will yield a better match if your settings are right.
Firstly, get your Colour Management settings right for the output conditions, by using an appropriate CMYK profile (I can't tell you which one this would be without knowing how you're printing). This way, if you convert your spot swatches to process in Illustrator, you should automatically get the closest match.
Also, you say digital printing. Many RIPs for digital presses and copiers have built-in spot colour simulation libraries, which you can manually adjust to the closest match possible. On Fiery RIPs (which I'm most familiar with), this feature is called 'Spot-On'. If you send the job to the printer with spot colour swatches intact, and named as they normally are, the RIP will convert them to the specified CMYK formulas.

  • How do I update/upgrade from Logic Pro 8 to 9?

How do I update/upgrade from Logic Pro 8 to 9?

There is no update, you have to purchase Logic 9 from the App Store, it's $199, which is close to the price of an update.
Warning, if you do purchase Logic 9 from the App store it will download 2GB of additional patches/sounds/loops...etc. This is for first time buyers so their App Store Logic will have some basics to work with before trying to download the additional 20+GB of loop/instrument data. If you have a full installtion of Logic 8 it's possible the 2GB of data Logic initially downloads will mess with the instruments and sounds you've been using, past projects may not load properly. Just something to be aware of.

It has to be 10.6.8 I believe, before you can upgrade to Lion. I found some more info, please check out: http://www.informationweek.com/byte/howto/personal-tech/desktop-os/231001728
Be sure all your programms will work on Lion. Power PC programms do not work anymore (eg Nikon Scan 4 will not work from now on on Mac OS X). Some versions of Canon utilities for camera's do not work, Canon still have to upgrade. For an App Compatibility Table: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Update/upgrade Esxi 3.5U3 to U5 - how?

I have an Esxi 3.5.0U3 (build 123629) server that I want to update to 3.5.0U5 to be able to run windows 7 hosts.
    How do I do it?
I only have a free stand alone server running on Dell PowerEdge 1950 hardware, with Vmware infrastructure client, now upgraded to free vSphere.
    What I have tried
    - I got help to find a specific iso for this update (http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=MTXWX). When I boot the server with this CD I get Install and Repair options only, not Update.
    - According to another KB (1006089) I have three other options for updating
-Vmvare Update manager. I don't understand what is needed for to use this tool. vCenter, whatever that is?
-Vmvare infrastructure update. Is installed together with the old vmvare infrastructure client. I can run it, but I get the error "Unable to reach Vmware update service". Someone said this tool is obsolete.
         - Remote CLI vihostupdate utility. I have not understood what is needed for this tool. Is it free? How do I install and user it?
Also I read a lot about command line commands (CLI), even for upgrading. Can that be a solution? But shame to say I do not know how to connect to the server in command line... tried Putty but could not connect.
So your help is really needed here! How do I upgrade..?

    Hi Thanh!
Are you using a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD?
You wrote "When I put in a 10.4 cd software installer..."
Tiger is on DVD. So you may be using a Model Specific version.
If not, Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, FastMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Unless purchased from AppleRescue, the discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade on them.

  • Firefox won't open after update/upgrade--how do I correct this?WinXP SP3

I got a message saying I should update/upgrade. I did AFTER SETTING RESTORE POINT. After this Firefox will not open (I have tried several ways). I went to restore point and restored. Still will not open. If I can't get it working I will look for another browser. I am now using IE and it is too slow. Thanks for help.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Can't find Process colours in Pantone Plus swatch palette

Hello All. I'd really appreciate some help with how you find certain pantone colours in the Pantone Plus swatch palete in Illustrator CS4.
I recently downloaded and installed this upgrade to complete a job and now I'm wishing I hadn't bothered! I can't seem to find most of the 'basic' colours like Process Magenta, Process Green etc all the colours that used to appear at the 'top' of the swatch palette when it was plain old Pantone. The find field is no use whatsoever as I can't seem to find any combination of phrases that select the colours I want. If I put in 'process' because I'm looking for process cyan or process magenta it just selects process blue instead. Its extremely frustrating!
Am I missing something obvious? Does anyone have a solution, please?
    Many thanks.
    Simon.

In the swatches panel: open swatch library> select all the swatches in the pop up> click on the flyout menu icon and choose add to swatches

  • I am on a intel Imac and need to update to 10.5. How can i do this?

I am on a intel Imac and need to update to 10.5. How can i do this?

You really should update to Snow Leopard because Leopard is no longer in production. The following tells you about Snow Leopard but also what's need to upgrade past Snow Leopard should you be able and wish to do so.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
      1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal
    startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
      1. If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update
unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn
it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
      2. You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system
software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through
other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
      3. The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other
interruption occurs during  installation, use the standalone installer (see below)
from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation  is in progress do not use
          the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
          1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
          2. Restart the computer.
          3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
          4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
              logo appears.
          5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
          6. Follow instructions.
    E. If updating:
      1. Download and install update(s)
      2. Use Software Update, or
      3. Download standalone updater(s).

  • Just upgraded to Mavericks. How do I get my Epson Workforce 360 scanner to work again?

Just upgraded to Mavericks. How do I get my Epson Workforce 360 scanner to work again?

Try Image Capture, which comes with your Mac. It should be in the Applications folder, or if not, try the Applications/Utilities folder. It should automatically find the right Epson driver for your scanner.
Also, I'm guessing you have Epson 630 rather than 360. If so, see this from Epson Website.
The latest printer and scanner drivers for this product are available from Apple's Software Update. Here's how to get them:
    Do one of the following:
    USB
Connect your product to your Mac using a USB cable and make sure the product is turned on.
    Wireless
Connect your product to your router wirelessly and make sure the product is turned on.
Note: You'll need to use the product's control panel to establish the connection to your router.
    Ethernet
Connect your product to your Mac using an Ethernet cable and make sure the product is turned on.
Select the menu on your Mac, then Software Update.
    Do one of the following:
If you see an update from Epson, select UPDATE to install it.
Note: Apple Software Update may find multiple updates for your system. You may choose to install all or some of the updates. If an update is not available, you're done. You already have the latest drivers from Apple.
Note: You can also use EPSON Scan if it's available for your product. To get it, go to the Epson main support page, select your product, then select Drivers & Downloads. Select Drivers, then Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility.
For more information on scanning in OS X, see our Image Capture FAQ.

The last update turned on iCloud. How do I get my calendar to sync with outlook now?

iCloud wasn't on, I accepted iTunes offer to upgrade to 6.1.1.
Next time I went to sync through iTunes, iCloud was on.
Your advice appears to have solved my problem...for now.
    Thank you.
Historically, the upgrade to 6.0 lost all of my contacts.
A manual restore brought them back.
Tech support said "Oh, that happens sometimes, you have to back up before upgrades", fortunately I do.
Again, thank you for the help.
