CS5 upgrade re install problems

Hi I have a new macbook pro and I am trying to re install my photoshop CS5,which is an upgrade from CS2,on this from the upgrade disc.
As this is an upgrade disc I require the original CS2 to install.
I am told I cannot use my copy of CS2 from my old computer by adobe help and need to download a version of CS2 with an attached new serial number from a link they supplied.
I followed the prompts on this link to the download page which had a list of five different download components.
I spent an hour of download time and when I attempted to open them only one would open. CS2 creative suite disc one.
Clicked on Adobe installer in the application and recieved error message, "Cannot open because Power PC applications are no longer supported"
I am very frustrated that this seemingly easy re install is becoming very complicated.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards
Geoffrey

As this is an upgrade disc I require the original CS2 to install.
You don't have to install the original full version in order to install the CS5 upgrade. Forget about installing CS2 since it will not install on modern Intel-based Macs.
Upgrade installation files include the full program code. The serial number tells Adobe if you've installed an upgrade or a full version.
Just install CS5, enter your CS5 upgrade serial number then enter your CS2 serial number when prompted.

  • CS4 to CS5 Upgrade has install/configuration problems ???

(My system is running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit )
    Awile back I purchased:
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (FULL version) on the Installable DVD's.
...and just recently, last week, I decided to bite the bullit, and go for the 64-bit CS5 version upgrade.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (Upgrade version) -downloadable option (its cost $299.00 US)
Method 1./ Now, this seemed to be more of an installation/config issue for me. but after I ran the CS5 upgrade, it did NOT
    upgrade/change any of my Desktop icons/links ?
In other words, the same old CS4 Icons were on the desktop.
Instead, I had to goto C:\Program Files\Adobe\...CS5\..., and then create a shortcut to the CS5 executable onto my Desktop?
    Method 2./
ok, this so-called CS5 upgrade option obviously dos NOT work right.
So, I completely UN-installed CS4 and CS5, and started from scratch again, but this time I simply installed just
    the CS5 Upgrade binaries.
Well that seemed to work fine, and it also seemed to ievennstall all the 64-bit CS5 modules, though it also created some extra CS4 directories in C:\(x86)Program Files\Adobe... ? why would it do that ?
ok, well has anyone else also experienced any of this upgrade weirdness. ?
Note: I verified my Windows 7 64-bit was up-to-date, and I also "updated" CS5, actually it updates itself.
I have also had a couple "BLUE-screenies", and crashes" in CS5, none of which, in Windows I can really tell what is going on ?, and I never had these issues on CS4 on this same PC.?
I called the 1-800 number for Adobe Technical Support and basically they said the CS5 upgrade that I purchased should have worked fine. uhmmm ya'd think eh?
So, I thought this forum might be more "aware", and/or helpful regarding my Upgrading woes.
    any thoughts, would be appreciated.
    Thankyou.
    Rick.

An Adobe upgrade is an upgrade by price, only. What I mean is that you're buying a new, fully separate version of the Adobe software from whatever your previous version was, and upon installation, your previous version is left intact (hence the reason your icons did not change--CS4 was still installed).
An update, on the other hand (which is what the program automagically did), actually does replace files, but only in the version that you're updating. A semantic issue, perhaps, but an important distinction.
You can run CS4 and CS5 side-by-side if you like, but if you want to be rid of CS4 and maintain only CS5, you need to uninstall CS4--or preferably, reinstall from the OS up. I always like to start fresh when a new suite comes along.

  • CS5 upgrade without installing 3 previous versions?

So I am currently running CS3 upgraded from CS2 Upgraded from ps6.
Is there a way that I can purchase the C5 upgrade without installing the three previous versions?
I am purchasing two new computers to replace the older computers in my house.
I have cs3 running on three computers in my house (new are replacing older models.).
I am paying for one of my 3 sons to attend college.  I have thought about a student version but understand that there are limitations.
    Can anyone help?

The Educational version is a great way to go - it is  functionally identical to the commercial version, usually without the extra fonts and such.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Mac install problem.

I just purchased Adobe Photoshop CS 5 for Mac and installed it on December 17, 2013. Last week I updated to a new harddrive. I am trying to re-install Photoshop and the disc asks all the usual questions: serial number, Adobe ID, Adobe Password, then the disk kicks out and says done. I open the applications folder and the Adobe Photoshop folder only has one file with 30 KB. Obviously, Photoshop will not open.

I was concerned that Adobe Photoshop CS6 would require me to update my computer to Mac OS 10.8. I updated from Mac OS 10.6.8 to 10.7.5 and lost my old InDesign and my old Photoshop. I purchased InDesign CS6. I read online that Photoshop CS6 was having problems with Mac OS 10.7.5 so I went with Photoshop CS5. I went to Best Buy and Simply Mac to try and purchase the program. They both told me to just go online and buy it. Nobody said go directly to Adobe. The problem is that I am just a homeowner that is not in the know about all these products. My wife is a school teacher and I could have purchased an education version. I thought, no I will just go ahead and purchase the full retail version.
The problem with Adobe is they think everyone is a computer geek and knows all about operating systems and programs. I am just a normal homeowner that is being taken advantage of by Adobe. Adobe manufactured and sold this product to a retail dealer. The product I purchased has never been licensed and I paid full retail for it. Now Adobe will not stand behind it!

  • Can the Photoshop CS5 upgrade be installed on two pcs?

I have photoshop CS2 installed on my desktop and have an upgrade to CS5 on the way. Someone told me that with current adobe products, it's ok to install a copy on your desktop and on your notebook, which is what I'd like to do with photoshop CS5. Is that ok, or was I mis-informed, and installation is restricted to a single pc?

One at a time wouldn't be an issue, as long as that means what is sounds like it does. Does it literally 'call in' to adobe and make sure it's the only install of that key that is running?
But, good for adobe for setting it up this way. It will be handy to have a copy on the notebook for times we are on the road.

I purchased CS5 Production Premium and downloaded it today. However, after installing Production Premium I don’t seem to have the following products installed Photoshop® CS5 Extended, Illustrator® CS5, Flash® Catalyst™ CS5, Flash Professional CS5, and Soundbooth® CS5.  From the download files I was provided I don’t see any way to install these items.

  • Upgrade install problem Photoshop CS5 from CS2, MacOS 10.6.8

    Hello,
My wife was using Adobe Photoshop CS2 for a long time.  We purchased a Photoshop CS5 upgrade in 2010 through Amazon, but she never installed it after reading about problems other people had with the upgrade.  It was still in its shrink wrap seal until last night.
Then she recently went to upgrade her Mac laptop to 10.9 Mavericks from 10.6 Snow Leopard, and discovered that Photoshop CS2 will no longer work since CS2 was a PowerPC application.  No problem - we thought we'd just finally install that CS5 upgrade first.  The Amazon web page where we bought the product stated that this was a valid upgrade path, so we thought we would not have a problem.  However, when we went to do the install, we received an "Inconsistency in the installer database" error.
Going to the support live chat, we were told by Yaseer that we could no longer upgrade from CS2 to CS5 because the CS2 "server" was shut down, and we should go to the forums for help with this instead.
Now what?  We own a legal copy of PS CS2, and bought a legal upgrade copy of PS CS5 with the understanding that this was a legal upgrade path, purchased from a reputable dealer (Amazon), but now it doesn't work.  There must be something that can be done here.
I'm not using my wife's Adobe id which she used to register her product, but I can provide that id as well as the serial numbers for CS2 and the CS5 upgrade.

    run the cleaner, http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
    restart your computer
    then try to install cs5.
if you're prompted for a cs2 serial number and your cs2 number fails, use the one linked from this page:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l

  • CS5 upgrade install Catalyst problem

I purchased the CS5 Master Collection Upgrade because I wanted to get the full CS5 Version of Flash Catalyst. I had previously had the beta version of Flash Catalyst on my comptuer. Before Installation of the CS5 upgrade, I tossed my beta version of Flash Catalyst in the trash and emptied the trash.
When shown the choices of products to install with the CS5 installation, I am not given the option to install Flash Catalyst CS5 (there is a red x next to this option and it says “A prerelease version of the product is already installed”.) even though a search for any remnants of the previous BETA version can not be found.
I have shut down and restarted the computer. and I spoke with Adobe technical consultants in India (or wherever they are)  for an hour.. this situation was not in their reference which they repeatedly referred to to no avail, so they told me I must e-mail Adobe from the internet.
Speaking to someone on the other side of the world is bad enough but when the people from India or Bora Bora, or wherever, put you on hold while they refer to their references for an hour then can not help you and tell you have to send an e-mail for a more competent level of support,  it is even more frustrating. Furthermore,  having to correspond by e-mail for a more competent level of technical support even though I had just spent over $1,000 on an UPGRADE, is most disparaging.
I hope that Adobe will  make my installation of Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5 possible soon. But in the meantime, has anyone else had this problem?

This issue is addressed in the FAQ in this post. See if that works for you. You'll want to remove all prior installations of Flash Catalyst.
All of the Adobe products have their own uninstaller script, so you will want to run that instead of just dragging the program folder to the trash.

  • HELP! Photoshop CS5 to CS5 Extended Install PROBLEM!

I had photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 since they came out. I just recently (November of 2011)upgraded to Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS5, those installs went OK, I did forget my login info but a call to Adobe got that all figured out.
Now I only "Play" in photoshop and illustrator at home for my own entertainment, and really barely used the CS2, so I am still just a newbie playing around in photoshop and illustrator.
Anyways, after watching a bunch of Photoshop CS5 Videos, I realized that Photoshop had an "Extended" version with 3D I was unaware of. So I wanted the Extended version, I called Adobe and he said I was 37 days out on my Photoshop CS5, so all I could do now was Buy the Extended version or buy the Upgrade Extended version, since my CS2 was already used for the initial photoshop CS5 upgrade. But since I upgraded my Illustrator CS2 to CS5 a week later he said I could Return that if I wanted.
He brought that up in the convo, not I.
So I Bit the Bullet, AGAIN, and bought the Photoshop CS5 Extended Upgrade to Upgrade the Photoshop CS5 I had just upgraded too.
Let me say this, ALL are Legal Copies ALL Legit. (Before someone says anything about that.) CS5 Photoshop and CS5 Illustrator were bought from Amazon, by Amazon Not one of there outside sellers, and so was the Photoshop CS5 Extended Upgrade.
My Problem is, I cannot Install the Photoshop CS5 Extended? As I am installing it asks for the code, I type it in, then if has two photoshop things listed, one 64 bit and one 32 I believe. But also above them says "Already Installed" with a >! in a white dot. Hovering my mouse over it it says "If you select any of the below to install again it will be installed it the current file location."
I go through the Install and I still have the Regular Photoshop CS5 NOT the Extended Version???
Box and top of the DVD says Photoshop CS5 Extended on them. But the offered install files that are offered on it that say "Already Installed" above them in the installer , Neither one says anything about Extended just ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5.1 ??
I went to Adobe and talked to a live chat guy but after he took my email and ALL of my serial #'s for ALL of my Photoshop products, had me try installing it again, and then just said I had to Call Adobe Tech. (That was Useless, they should just CLOSE the live chat thing if they can't do anything.)
Anyways, with NO Photoshop CS5 Extended getting installed on my PC Win7 64 bit I3 cpu with 8 gigs of ram, my Adobe Account on my "View Product Registration" Page it now Lists the serial # and info as of 1-1-2012 as having Registered my Photoshop Extended Version 12.0 with all my other registered Adobe software.
So HOW can I get the Extended to actually Install? I Opened the files on the DVD and really don't see anything that even says Extended on any?
I had Amazon OVERNIGHT this Photoshop CS5 Extended Upgrade to me so I could as Bert Monroy says, "Play, just Play it's the best way to Learn Photoshop." over the new years weekend, now I sit here frustrated instead.
Maybe I will email him, maybe he knows what to do, he has always replied to my emails and has Signed my Photoshop books authored by him. (Nice guy very helpful.)
    Any info/help much Appreciated.
    Thanks

Please explain this? I never done that before.
In Help I clicked Deactivate and then see a pop up box with 2 choices, Suspend Activation or Deactivate Permanently.
I hit the Cancel button at the bottom for now.
If this don't work I will Call Adobe on Monday and hopefully get it all worked out, or I will be packing up Both CS5 Upgrades I just bought and send them both back to Amazon for a full Refund.
This should NOT be such a P.I.T.A. just because a few kids hack and use photoshop without actually paying for it.
I am 50 years old BTW, and Paid for my Legit copys, but I gotta jump through Hoops as punishment for a few who don't pay.
Myleniums answer sure sounds like a big pain in the a** to go through and I'd just Return the CS5 stuff, Including the CS5 Illustrator I just upgraded as well. As a Amazon Prime Member they will take it all back and refund me my cash.
As a rare user, just for myself at home, I only Upgraded because I knew Adobe only allowed you to get 3 versions behind before you had to rebuy the full install software all over again so I waited until I thought it was getting close to CS6 coming out and I would Not be able to upgrade at the upgrade pricing. And the CS6 Licensing I read about coming up does NOT appeal to me.
So CS2 or CS5 will be it for me and Adobe. As a Hobbiest I cant afford to do upgrades for each new version. /i heard starting with CS6 you will be Required to upgrade when the very next one comes out, not able to skip a version. Or even some silly monthly fee type thing, Never will I pay a Monthly fee for software use.

  • CS3 to CS5 upgrade - can't install CS3 on new mac first

I originally purchased CS3 years ago, then upgraded to CS5. Today, I purchased a new Mac OS X 10.10 and it says I need to first install the CS3 and then go through the upgrade again. Problem is that it will not install CS3 because it is not supported on the new operating system. So what to do?

There is no need to re-install CS3.
All installers (full and upgrades) contain the full program code. The serial number tells the installer if it's a full version or an upgrade.
Just install CS5, enter the CS5 upgrade serial number then the CS3 serial number when prompted.

  • Do I need to install CS3 on Windows 7 64 bit before installing CS5 Upgrade?

I am replacing a graphic designer's Windows Vista laptop with a Dell Precision T5500 desktop.  Do I need to uninstall CS3 from the laptop and decommission the serial number?  Then do I need to install CS3 on the new desktop before installing the CS5 upgrade?  I was told I needed to decommission the installation, but I don't remember having to do that with other installations.  Thanks in advance!

You should definetly deactivate any software before uninstalling. But you don't have to install CS3 in order to install CS5. Just have the serial number handy for verification. That said, depending upon the user's needs, you might want to leave CS3 available.

  • I am trying to install the cs5 upgrade on my new laptop, however, I cannot locate my cs4 program to install first.  Am I out of luck?

I am trying to install the cs5 upgrade on my new laptop, however, I cannot locate my cs4 program to install first.  Am I out of luck?

You do not need the older version installed in order to install the upgrade version, but you do need the serial number from CS4 to prove that you qualify for using CS5.  During the activation process for CS5, after you successfully enter the CS5 serial number you will be asked to select the qualifying version (CS4) from a list and to enter its serial number.
If you registered CS4 when you originally installed it then you might be able to find the serial number available in your Adobe account online in the Products section.

  • How to install Adobe Photoshop CS5 upgrade to Lion 10.7 if I have Adobe Photoshop CS2?

I recently upgraded to a new Macboook Pro and with that upgrade am using Lion version 10.7.  On my previous MBP I had Snow Leopard installed.  Also had Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS2 installed on that and then later upgraded to CS5 on that machine.  Now with Lion I am unable to do that.  I aware of the technical hurdle.....Lion does not support Rosetta or PowerPC applications and therefore I cannot load CS2 on there initially and then upgrade to CS5.  So does this mean that I am screwed unless I buy a full version of Photoshop and Illustrator CS5 to put on Lion?  Or is there a workaround?
I still have the old MBP so I could migrate all the files from the old computer to the new computer.  Short of that is there any other workaround?  If I gave the serial numbers of CS2 and the CS5 upgrade to a rep at Adobe could they unlock CS5 for me so that I can download it to my new MBP?
On another note does anyone think about backward compatibility anymore?  Has Apple totally lost its mind?  And will Adobe cash in on this opportunity?  Is it too much to ask for a representative from Adobe to get back to you after posting your callback number?  Customer service does not exist.....its is unprofitable to actually "serve" customer because a customer is a tool to be exploited as are all resources in a corporation.
This is American corporatism at its finest.  You have a software monopoly with Adobe on one hand along with a computer manufacture that is not competent enough to produce a backward compatible operating system.  If these companies operated for the consumers benefit they would be out of business.
There is no way I'm paying for a new version of the Adobe software.  Surely someone can understand my frustration and that this frustration is be being echoed by hundreds of users.  But apparently we are stupid right?  We are stupid because we just want to be able to smoothly transfer stuff that we have paid so much for to a new operating system but cannot.  And thats because on a whim it all changes.

Shaidipur when you install Photoshop CS 5 it will request your qualifying serial number.  Assuming you purchased the proper update simply type in your Photoshop CS2 serial number.
In regards to compatability I believe their is a maximize compatibility option within Photoshop.  For further details I would recommend posting your question into the Photoshop forum.
