CS5 using Bridge and a Nikon D750

I have CS5 and a NIkon D750, having trouble with the DNG converter and finding a good download.  The one I found doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Downloading the DNG Converter won't magically install it, launch it and run it on each new batch of raw NEF files from that camera.

    Hi,
The D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later - the latest version that is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12 is Camera Raw 8.5 as far as I can see.
You need to either buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or use the free Adobe DNG converter.

  • Using Bridge and CR on alternative computers

As a complete newbie to Adobe products particularly Photoshop this may well be a simple question to answer and may already be possible but...
I have recently installed CS4 on a Intel i7 running Vista-64 fortunately with 6Gb of RAM and am impressed.  I particularly like Bridge and CR5 and would like to learn to use the workflow practises that the 3 programmes suggest.
Occassionaly I find myself overseas with a camera and a portable computer and would like to use the flexibility that the latter two provide for indexing the photographs as they are taken and looking at/doing minor tweaks on the photos at the time they are taken.  I don't need or want to install CS4 on the portable as the main manipulation is going to happen when I'm back home and have some processing power behind me but I would like to use the other 2 on the portable while I'm away from home ase.  Now clearly they won't be used on the main system (I'm the only one that uses it) while I'm away so there is little danger of them being used by 2 people at the same time so personally I don't have a problem using the same software on the 2 pcs.
I am fully aware of the potential problems and also realise the needs of the copyright owners to ensure that the software isn't duplicated (I'm also a musician and fully understand the issues of copyright).  I understand I can unauthorise the main installation and install the software on the portable then presumably switch between the two in similar situations as I wish but this seems to require the continual feeding of software keys into the two machines.  This is one situation where the use of USB keys would actually be an advantage.
Perhaps this is something that Adobe could look at for future versions.  Or maybe there is a way to do what I want already...

I am pretty sure that license allows you to use Adobe's software on two computers; however you should check it by reading it.

  • Using Bridge and LR with same folders/files

Having organized, edited and rated my photos using Bridge CS4 but recently started getting seriously into LR3 I still want to keep that file structure, either in a transitional period or indefinitely.
I normally use Bridge to import the photos, then spend some time creating sub-folders (one folder per event), organizing them. I'm hoping that I can add those (already organized) folders into LR, but can't figure out how. I see how I can import the photos, but I don't want that as I want to keep them all in the same location (they're all organized on the hard drive as I want them), just have LR "see" them so I can further edit and rate them. How do I do that?
I also want LR to understand and see the edits I've made to my RAW files as well as my ratings, keywords etc.
Are there other things I should keep in mind when having my photos work with both Bridge and LR?

It's possible to work the way you do, but with Lr it's a bit awkward, particularly if you start editing (developing) your images in Bridge.
You ask: " I'm hoping that I can add those (already organized) folders into Lr, but can't figure out how."
You have to import the images. Without importing nothing can happen in Lr.
So, open the Import Dialog. If it shows only the small window of the Import Dialog, click on the triangle in the bottom left corner, to expand the window.
On the left side you'll see the <Source> panel. navigate to the folder in question and click on it to select it. You will see all images in this folder in the main window of the Import Dialog.
Then in the top center of the Import Dialog select <Add>.
<Add> is for importing images that are already on the hard drive and you do not want to change their location.
<Move> is for importing images that are already on the hard drive and you do want to change their location.
<Copy> is for importing images from camera / memory card.
By selecting <Add> Lr will import the images in their present folder and will display the folder.
Your Bridge edits will also be imported because on import Lr reads the image file and the xmp-file where Bridge has stored the metadata of your edits.
But this is true only for import. Should you then decide for an image that has been imported in Lr to edit it in Bridge again, these edits would not automatically be visible in Lr. This is so because with imported images Lr stores all edits in its catalog, and does not display the metadata from the xmp-file where Bridge saves edits.
But you can make Lr read and display these additional Bridge-edits by doing a <read metadata from file>. But this is problematic because <reading metadata from file> will overwrite any Lr edits.
So you see that because of the fact that Lr works with its catalog while Bridge does not, editing images in Bridge and in Lr is a recipe for frustration. It can be done, but it's awkward and prone to mistakes.
Therefore I would suggest to bite the bullet and henceforth use Lr as your only editor. Import images from camera in Lr, do all your editing in Lr.
Since you are used to do edits in in Bridge Camera Raw, Lr will pose no big problems for you.
But if you don't want to let go of Bridge right away, I'd suggest you do at least one thing: After importing the images in Lr refrain from further editing these images in Bridge.

  • [SOLVED] eth0-wlan0 AP using bridge AND keep internet access

    Hi there!
This is my very first post here, so please forgive me if I (unintentionally) violate some rule.
I have set up my system as an eth0-wlan0 access point with hostapd using a bridge.
The IP addresses are provided by a separate dhcp-server (router resp. cablemodem).
My problem is: when I work on the AP I would like to have a working connection to the
Internet/Router. But to get there I have to execute
    systemctl restart dhcpcd.service
The AP via the eth0-wlan0 bridge keeps working and I now have a working Internet connection.
AFAIK the dhcpcd service acts (invoked by netcfg) on the bridge-profile to assign an IP
to eth0. After that the bridge is set up and (now hostapd.service is up) the wlan0 is
added to the bridge in AP mode.
It would be great if someone could point out the problem for me.
    Thx, Benedikt

After switching from netcfg to netctl everything worked "out-of-the-box". The bridge gets to be the new standard network interface and all traffic on the machine gets directed through it. YAY

  • DW on Mac, CS3/CS5 using SFTP and/or FTP, need it secure!

    Folks:
DW CS3 or CS5 running on an quad-Intel iMac, 10.6.4, connecting to a host that uses identical credentials for SFTP and FTP.
It's important to be assured that the connection is in fact secure.
If you set  "connect using SFTP" will DW CS3 complain if the connection cannot be made securely?  Will DW then default to ordinary, insecure FTP?  If so, will DW inform you?   Is there an easy way of verifying the current connection mode, SFTP or FTP, within DW? (The FTP connection log does not say.)  Is there an easy way of doing it in MacOS or with a simple utility? (Can be done, but not conveniently, with L'il Snitch.)
    Is DW CS5 any different?
    TIA,
    hen3ry

    Folks:
    Problem solved.
It's clear that FTP and SFTP are fundamentally different protocols, but the DW protocol selection strongly implies similarity by offering SFTP as a minor option under the main selection of FTP.    I think it would be much clearer if SFTP were offered as a major option -- and then there would be an opportunity for offering SFTP options, too.
Here's a way of distinguishing which of these two is active:  Connecting to the target site using FTP results in a succession of text entries in the optionally viewable FTP log  -- no surprise.   I discovered that connecting to the same site with the same credentials and the addition of checking the "Use SFTP" option results in only line feeds --scrolling, but no visible text-- in the FTP log window.  I guess that's a reasonable though a bit indirect way of informing users that the link is active and secure.   (What does one do to diagnose problems with SFTP for hosting services that don't support FTP?  I don't know there are such services but it should be the great majority of them.)  Works in DW CS3 but I didn't check CS5.
Another option, untested but fairly obvious:  It's fairly easy these days to control host s/w (personal) firewalls -- even for low-tech users.  Establish and verify a link to your server using SFTP, then disable FTP; the link should fail.  And vice-versa.  This meets my specification of "simple" and should be  available with no extra expense and little trouble.
Brief Editorial:  From the recent reading I've done on FTP versus SFTP,  it is clear that the time to discontinue all support for FTP  is long past.

  • In Photoshop CS5, using Bridge, I will not be able to open a psd image from RAW, due to memory

I open 25mb photos from Bridge CS5, make adjustments in RAW, then open them in Photoshop to apply filters & masks etc.. Once opened in Photoshop, I can work with a multi layered 200mb psd file without any issues.
However, after closing it, then opening another image in RAW, adjusting it, then opening that image in Photoshop, I will suddenly get an error message saying Not enough memory (RAM), even though this is a far smaller file (26mb), than the psd file I just had opened earlier (200mb).
I can work for a while without problems, then suddenly I start to get the error messages, even though I have closed all my other programs, & all other files.
I have also regularly cleaned out my temp files.
I don't know much about hardware, but asked for a fast machine that could handle editing of large hi-res still photos, running the Adobe Standard suite.
I only work with still photos from photoshoots, or layouts in InDesign & Illustrator. I don't do any 3D or animation, or run any games, so I was told the PC & graphics card I bought would handle what I do.
I have set my Prefs in Photoshop Performance at the higher end of 'the ideal range'.
I have a brand new PC & Windows 7 & have only had it for 3 months, but only work on it 3 days a week so shouldn't need much defragging:
    i7 - 860 CPU,
    4GB DDR3 1333MHZ (2x2GB) RAM
    500GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
ATI Radeon   4550 512MB PCle Graphics
I thought I should get 4GB more RAM but my computer boffin friend says that won't make a difference - as he checked my CPU usage in Task Manager & it is handling it. He thinks I might need a bigger Graphics Card, but he's not sure.
Does anyone know why I get the error messages? Will a better graphics card fix it, or there something else I need to reset, or do I have to put up with having to clean out temp files, shut down totally, then reboot, every 2 hours?
    Thanks,
    Gerooster.

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is.

  • Two VM's running on different Host needs to be connected using Bridging and joined to VM's domain

    Hi,
I am new to the form and vm workstation. Thanks for your inputs in advance.
I have 2 physical machine running Windows 7 OS.
On Host1, I have 2 VM's running Windows 2008 Server & XP. I have joined XP to Windows 2008 Server. If I try to join the VM machine running on Host2 to windows server machine running on Host1, I get the DNS error. However I'm able to ping all the vm machines in any direction. Is it possible to join this VM3 to windows server??

I would suggest you to readjust the wireless settings on your Router....
On the Linksys Setup Page, reduce the MTU size to 1400 and click on Save Settings.Click on wireless tab.... Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings....Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304,Click on "Save Settings"...

  • LR 4 and Nikon D750

Do I need to have LR 5 in order to be able to view and edit Nikon D750 files? Or can I do some sort of update for LR 4?

There is no update for LR4 to have it read D750 NEF files. You need to have a t least 5.7 or the latest LR6 of course. Read here.
You can directly upgrade to LR6.
A workaround would be to use the free DNG converter and import a DNG into LR4. However, since the update is only about 80 bucks, I'd definitely go for that and don't miss out on the new functions since LR4.

  • Trying to do 6.3 raw update for CS5 through Bridge not working

Been trying to update 6.3 raw for CS5 through Bridge and a pop up window says I am not the administrator for my computer.  I sign in as the admin still does not work.  I have tried installing in manual mode no luck either.

If you are working on Windows OS, then try to run the patch executable in Admin mode using "RunAsAdministrator" option in the right click context menu.

  • Bridge and Camera Data (EXIF)

I need to know how, using Bridge and its metadata routines, to include EXIF data into a record set.
I am a digital archivist of old, long out of copyright books, manuscripts and other ephemera.  When scanning an old book I scan them as signatures.  Each scan will have two pages which are split, i.e. page 1 and page 4.
Page 1 (the original scan) contains the camera data.  The page four image, copied out of page 1, does not contain any camera data when saved.  After processing page 1 I add to it the applicable metadata for the volume and export it as a template, applying that template to the record set.
However, the Camera Data (EXIF) does not get applied to all the pages in the record set.  Is there any way around this?
    Cordially,
    A. Wayne Webb

fixed it with this work around

  • Batch Processing using Bridge to PhotoShop

    - I am using CS4 on a PC.
    - I shoot RAW and from Bridge I go into Camera RAW and adjust my images.
    - Usually I save each one at a time however I would like to learn how to be able to edit each photo using Bridge and Camera RAW ( I’m already doing this), then be able to take all of the photos in the directory and batch process to save as a tiff or jpg for further manipulation.
    - I was using Canon’s DPP but want to do all my work in Adobe. The process in DPP is straightforward.
I'm sure this is simple but I can't seem to find it in the menu's or Help.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Curt:
Thank, this gave me the direction I needed. After a few tries I think I've got it down pat.
    Thanks again.
