CS5 versus CS4

Hi
I have CS4 set up on a corei7  with 6G ram 2 x  Raptor HD, Nvidia 512 Mo, Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
My problem is that I am not satisfied with the performance overwhole either using HD or DV.
Whilst editing  the video is jumpy and the final result is not very good either.
I understand that importing HDV is maybe too much for the program because of the compression rate..
Hence with Mac/FC there is the prores codec.
I am  a Unix user and only use windows for this, I am very unsatisfied with this product (windows7)  and am now seriously looking to get a mac.
But I just wanted to know first (as a mac is  big investement) if upgrading to CS5 would improve the programms performance seeing as its finally 64 bit
has anybody noticed an improvement in fluidity whilst editing etc..
Thanks

Hi well thank you for this post, It was basically what I wanted to know concerning upgrading to CS5.
I have tried Cinellera on Linux it ressembles more a "typical" video editing app, but it is really complicated.
Premiere is really quite intuitive so I will give it an other shot with CS5 now that its 64bit the 6 Go ram will be used I hope...
Remains that Windows has a real problem handling memory and it is a very heavy OS with an enormous amount of disk activity...
So I am not expecting a miricle there

  • CS5 to CS4

Hi all, we have a CS4 license and we downloaded the CS5 trial to see if it was worth upgrading. We can't open any files we've created in CS5 in CS4, and are getting a message stating that we need to update a ton of plug-ins. This just seems ridiculous. We tried to see if there was a different way to save the files in CS5 but no luck. How do we do this? Have we lost all of this work now?

InDesign can open native .indd files from the any version up to the one you are using, but not a later version. To open CS5 files in CS4 you must EXPORT to .idml and open that in CS4. You will lose any unsupported features that you used that are new in CS5, and there may be changes inthe line endings that affect text flow due to differences in the text engines. This is nothing new.

  • Saving down from CS5 to CS4 cross-platform

Working on a PC, I am saving down from CS5 to CS4, exporting as an idml. The client is using CS4 on a MAC. When the file opens, the Master Page content is superimposing over the content of the page. Help!

Hi Bob and thank you for your help.
The answer to your question is yes. But now I have more information:
    - I opened the idml file on my PC and I see the same thing as my client who is using a MAC.
    - It occurred to me that my client created the original ind file himself (on a MAC) then sent it to me to work on.
    - BUT my client's ind file was a originally a Quark file converted to InDesign CS4.
    - I just completed another project for the client but I created it from scratch in CS5 then saved as an idml file so his MAC could read it. He had no problem with the idml file.

  • Photoshop cs5 and cs4, photoshop help...f1 why online

    Hi
i have installed on w7 photoshop cs5 and photoshop cs4
well when i try to read the manual (the help files) clicking F1 or under the menu Help-> Photoshop Help F1 ,photoshop cs5 and cs4 connect to the net
for example cs4 opens a firefox page with the help guides
cs5 opens a windows connected to internet
for example i need to know some shortcut and i have to be connected to the net
    that's  weird
is there a way to use the offline help? like cs3
    thanks

You can download the help files as a PDF from the Photoshop Support pages.
If you want to access the offline help files from F1, you have to disconnect PS from the Internet.
If you want to turn off Community Help so that local Help opens by default, do the following:
       1. Open the Connections panel (Window > Extensions > Connections).
       2. From the Connections panel menu , select Offline Options.
       3. Select Keep Me Offline and click OK.
Note: When you disable web services from the Connections panel, all other web services (such as Adobe Kuler and Adobe ConnectNow) are also disabled.

  • Replacing CS5 with CS4

I'm considering replacing Dreamweaver CS5 with CS4 because my textbook follows CS4, and there are several new features in CS5 that are not covered by the textbook. If I do this, will my existing webpages created by CS5 be destroyed? Will I be able to open them using CS4?

DW is designed so that you can open (almost) any HTML page in it, so you should be able to open pages created in CS5 in CS4. The worst case is that it may look a little different.
Note that you'll get a better response for general questions about DW here:

  • Can I upgrade to CS5 from CS4 if CS4 is not on my computer?

I downloaded CS4 from the internet and ran it on my computer until the computer crashed and I had to install a new hard drive. I now have CS4 on a backup disk ONLY, and it won't install from the disk for some reason. I get this error message:
    UI mode: Full GUI
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
what():  Invalid path passed to FileSystemPath constructor.
If I upgrade to CS5, does CS4 have to be on my new hard drive to do so? I DO have the registration number for my copy of CS4. I don't want to pay the full price for CS5 when I can pay for the upgrade only.
    Thanks!

If you downloaded the CS4 product, then you can still access the download files from your Adobe account. Log in to your account and look under My Orders. (If you weren't able to deactivate the previous installation, you'll need assistance from a support agent before you can reinstall the CS4 software.)
However, you don't need CS4 installed in order to install the upgrade. You do, however, need the CS4 serial number.

  • Upgrade CS4 to CS5 - Will CS4 Still Work?

I have CS4 Web Premium on a Windows Vista X64 machine. I have downloaded trial of CS5 Web Premium and everything seems to work fine (i.e. both versions are running on this computer and seem to work fine).
My question is: If I upgrade to CS5, will CS4 still work?
The main reason I ask is that I have onOne software Plug-in suite 4.5 running on Photoshop CS4. onOne is charging $149 to upgrade to a version that works on CS5. I still want to be able to use onOne, but, at this point, not enough to pay their upgrade price.
I appreciate anyone that can offer some input.
    Thanks, Wayne

    Bob,
I guess my real question was what would happen to CS4 when I activated CS5. Considering the licensing practices of software companies today, I wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

  • How to downgrade cs5 to cs4

    Hi everyone,
I need some advise or solution how can i downgrade adobe cs5 to cs4.for adobe indesign

Is your CS5 an upgrade or a full version?

  • Best workflow CS3 to CS4 to CS5 or CS5 to CS4 to CS5

I had been doing a monthly magazine in Mac CS3 and sending it for text edits to someone with Mac CS4. They would return it to me as an .inx doc and I would prepare it as PDF for the printer.
Now that I have CS5, Would I be better off doing it in CS5 then giving them .inx to do edits?
    So what's best?:
    CS3 to CS4 to CS5
    CS5 to CS4 to CS5
    CS3 to CS4 to CS3
    TIA

I had been doing a monthly magazine in Mac CS3 and sending it for text edits to someone with Mac CS4.
    Text edits? Only text?
    How about CS5 -> RTF -> CS5?
Just set up your text as one great big threaded, well-styled story, and export the RTF. Your editor edits text using TextEdit (how apropos), and returns the edited RTF file to you. You place it & clear overrides, and magically have an updated InDesign file requiring only minor tweaks. (We call this "poor man's InCopy" in our office.)
If I had to pick, I'd be dithering between unhappy options. Going backwards (CSn -> CSn-1) is a bad idea. Going forwards two versions at once (CSn -> CSn+2) is also a bad idea. Heck, in any workflow you want to be reliable, going forwards one version (CSn -> CSn+1) is dangerous and should be avoided. I would suppose that CS5 -> CS4 -> CS5 would be the least dangerous, if you made absolutely certain that no CS5-specific tools were being used. This requires some serious diligence, and even if you are 100% perfect in your avoidance of the new tools in CS5, text reflow will still happen occassionally. On top of that, I wouldn't advise relying on CS5 until the first bugpatch gets distributed by Adobe.
Basically, every option you have is fraught with possible dangers.
Edit: it's tough to tell someone to do something dangerous. CS3 -> 4 -> 3 is something I've done a great deal of, and it's worked out okay. Over more than a year, I've only had two projects blow up in my face because of backsaving in this workflow.

  • Problem exporting CS5 to CS4

Ive been using the trial version of CS5 but I recently purchased a copy of CS4.
I took all my fla files and saved them as CS4 files.  For the one project that worked just fine, but for my website... its completely broken due to one issue.
My website uses a smaller window within the larger project which loads swfs for each of my projects.  With CS5 this works just fine, and you can see it at http://www.sfu.ca/~alorimer/New/VirtualDreams.swf
Trying to test it after saving it to CS4 though... the buttons in the embedded swf files dont work.  The swf files run fine on their own, but apparently the buttons once inside a larger swf file refuse to operate.
Im currently trying to build new files inside cs4 to see if it occurs that way, but is there a reason this shouldnt work in CS4, or that exporting should mess this up?
    Thanks

Im still fairly new to flash, and I cant say I really know the differences between cs5 and cs4. Tlf is a format of text right?
Rebuilding it from the groundup... atm it looks like theres some setting in the background in the old file thats a problem as it works doing it all over...

  • Color space AE CS5 Versus AE CS4 = !#%%$

    Hello,
I'm trying to export HD uncompressed 10-bit with color space HDTV (rec.709) clips of VFXs footage that were done on AE CS5.
My main project file to which I want to integrate them in on AE CS4 which I am using (the AE CS5 render are made by someone else that has it).
My project file settings is in HDTV (rec.709) 16bit with mostly cineform clips, but with a few other VFXs shot that were renderer in HD uncompressed without problems (using CS4). I plan to them export my main project into HD uncompressed
We tried to batch of export:
First one was done in CS5 with HDTV (rec.709) in export settings but the project settings wasn't set to HDTV (rec.709) by the VFXs guy.
When I imported those clips in my CS4 main project there was difference in color (more golden) and blacks (more crushed).
You can it with the blacks's difference on the girl's hair and the side planel of the plane and the golden is less ovious on the picture quality but you see it a bit on the woman's face.
I then proceeded to check color space, and it was imported by default by AE in sRGB IEC611966-2.1.
I then changed it to HDTV rec.709 using interpret footage; it was a closer match, but not quite.
I then noticed that all my project's clips, including the HD uncompressed one that I rendered (under CS4) from work done by another VFX artist, were all in HDTV rec.709 YCrCb, but the the imported clips I was trying to match were in HDTV rec.709 only with no YCrCb mention afte them.
I talked with film's colorist and VFXs artist that worked with those projct file from which all the problematic shots comes (because problem is isolated to project file this person worked on), because we both over our head in color space territory.
We came up the the possible solution that the project setting might have been altered for quicker workflow and not set rigth again.
We checked and color space wasn't set in setting; colorsit suggested that if it's not set in settings no mather if you set it in your export settings, AE won't allow it and that's why it might have forced RGB, hence the sRGB IEC611966-2.1. It was in 32bit float instead of 16 bit, so that's ok, we initialy suggestedthat it might have been reduced to 8bit for quicker workflow.
After this, we proceded to re-render in CS5, bu we found a weird thing that we both don't realy grasp.
After he did the 2nd render (in CS5 still), he tried importing clips with old ones, to compare them to my unafected originals clips, in my CS4 project that he converted in CS5.  It was worst. He then switched off the "blend color using 1.0 gamma"; which my project file didn't have on in CS4. The files are in 32bit float and color space was HDTV (rec.709), but since it's not embed in HD uncompressed files he set them manualy after importing them.
The OLD render batch was matching, but not the NEW ones.
Then he tried importing both render batch in the original project file he exported them from, and it was the NEW batch that now matched.
He's now doing test in my main project file in CS4 which is were I'd ultimately like it to work in,
but if anyone could gives us pointer as to why this is happening and how to make it match with no hassly tat would be great help.
Thank you for your time and interest.
    Frédéric

You've lost me, honestly, but obviously you seem to be close to the solution. Your colorist is mistaken, though, about how AE handles color profiles. It doesn't discard or enforce profiles, it really seems you just forgot to carry them somewhere. Also, since these are different machines, maybe a specific profile was not available. eitehr it was never installed or it is blocked due to permission issues...

  • Down saving from CS5 to CS4 in a batch

    Hello!
I have a large volume of CS5 files to downsave to CS4 so they can be used on another machine. Is it possible to do this in a batch? I've tried a couple ways so far and I'm definitely doing something wrong as the new files still tell me they were generated in a new version of Illustrator. That, or the entire batch just saves over the same single file for the whole action.
If anyone could give me a simple walkthrough, that would be lovely!
    Thanks.

    That, and explain

  • Camera Raw Sluggish in CS5 vs CS4

My computer is Windows Vista Home Premium, 64-bit.  Quad Core Q6600, 2.4 GHz, 6gb RAM.
When running Photoshop CS4 with Bridge and Camera Raw, I could change any of the settings, and the preview would update pretty much instantaneously, with no lag.
I updated recently to CS5, with its accompanying new version of Camera Raw, and I find that on this same computer, working with the same Raw Files from my Canon 1D Mark 2, there is a pretty noticeable lag in the preview when changing almost any of the settings.  It's slow enough that it seriously impedes my workflow, and makes me think of returning to CS4.
Within CS5, I have the following Performance settings:
    Available RAM: 5349 MB
    Ideal Range: 2942-3851 MB
Let Photoshop Use: 3209 MB (60%)
These were the default settings used when it was installed.
    Scratch Disks:
I have a separate physical hard drive selected for this, different from the one where the OS is installed.  Only that disk is selected as a Scratch Disk.
    History & Cache:
    History States: 20
    Cache Levels: 4
    Cache Tile Size: 128K
    GPU Settings
    NVidia GeForce 9800 GT/PCI/SSE2
    Enable OpenGL Drawing is Checked.
These settings are pretty much the same as in my CS4 installation (both are currently installed on this computer).
Can this be improved?  As I said, this seriously slows down my workflow.
    Thanks.

    * It's slower when hosted by Bridge for Windows, as it's running 32-bit code.
Are you saying that it'll run faster if I start Bridge from within PS CS5, 64-bit?
You can determine Camera Raw's version number from Camera Raw Preferences (look in the title bar). 6.7RC is the best version for CS5 so far. You can download it here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw6-7/
Bridge is a 32-bit application. Camera Raw is provided as 32-bit and 64-bit plug-ins, and the faster 64-bit plug-in only works when hosted by 64-bit Photoshop (on 64-bit Windows).
So, hosting Camera Raw in Bridge will use the 32-bit version. From Bridge, opening a raw image with Photoshop will use the 64-bit version of the plug-in (if 64-bit is installed, and the 32-bit version of Photoshop isn't already running).

  • Can you open Dreamweaver files created in CS5 in CS4?

Does anyone know if it is possible to backsave a CS5 Dreamweaver file to be compatible with CS4???
    Any help is much appreciated!

    No conversion is required.
Dreamweaver creates HTML and CSS files which are plain text (readable by humans) and can even be opened in a text editor.
There is no proprietary code or file format like there is in Microsoft Word.

  • .fla saved in CS5 as CS4 won't open in CS4

Hello. In Adobe Flash Professional CS5 (11.0.0.485) (on intel mac running 10.7.2), I set up a document, save it, and then save it as a CS4 document. I then transfer it to another Mac (ppc, running 10.5.8) and try opening it with Adobe Flash Professional CS4 (10.0). I get the error message: "Failed to open document. … " Would anyone know why, and what to do about it?
    Thanks

You should be able to open those files, even with the camera raw plugin that shipped with  photoshop cs4.
(camera raw 5.7 is the newest camera raw plugin for photoshop cs4)
If in photoshop cs4, you go to Help>About Plug-ins and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it say?
Is your windows 7 an 32 or 64 bit system?
