CS5 won't open using CONT+H in PSE8

For some reason CS5 won't open with the Cont+H hot key in PSE8 but will load if using the menu drop down...any ideas how to fix this?

It's normally ctrl+E to edit in an external program; at least from Lightroom to CS5
First you must set up the external editor in preferences.

  • Photoshop CS5 won't open .kmz files

Photoshop CS5 won't open .kmz files. I did a fresh install of Google Earth, opened it, saved a place, and saved a .kmz file. It reopens fine in Google Earth.
When I try to open it in Photoshop, this message pops up:
    File Format Error
This file is from a previous version of Google Earth or it is not a Google Earth file
I get this message regardless of the following:
    - ps is closed and i right click the kmz and choose ps (rather than google earth) to open it
    - ps is open and i double click the kmz
    - ps is open and i choose file/open and select the kmz
    - ps is open and i have created and saved a new psd file, then choose 3D/New Layer from 3D File/ and select the kmz
I have tried the usual remedies, change rwx permissions, repair permissions, delete prefs. No luck.
Any thoughts? Software versions are below.
    Thanks.
    - Photoshop CS5 Extended 12.0.4 x64 (doesn't work in x32 either)
    - Google Earth 6.0.3.2197
    - OS 10.6.8

I was trying to see (since Photoshop Extended touts the ability to open kmz files) if I could open a 3D Google Earth file and edit it in Photoshop. A file like this for instance http://ecotope.org/anthromes/maps/. After more research I've learned that kmz is nothing more that a container format - you can change the extension to zip and see what's in it.
I ran across this tidbit in the Photoshop CS3 Extended forum:
Photoshop CS3 Extended supports the ability to import .kmz files created from Google Earth 4 or exported from Sketch-up in the Google Earth 4 format. Photoshop CS3 Extended cannot open Google Earth files. If you have a Google Earth file, you can convert it to a Google Earth 4 format with the free version of Sketch-up.
So, theoretically if I could get a kmz into Google Earth 4 format, I could open it in Photoshop. But I haven't had any success importing a kmz or kml into SketchUp. Even just making a native sketchup file and trying to import that in psd gives a ram error.
Probably I'm wishing for the moon.

I have ePub documents that won't open using iBooks, how can i get them formatted so that I can use them

You could try downloading a program called Calibre.  It is very good at converting files between formats.  I use it all the time to convert PDF's from work to read on iTunes when I don't want to have to keep zooming in and out to read the actual text.
I know that iBooks will read PDF's but they can get pretty squashed down some times. Especially if the original font was small to begin with.  So I run them through Calibre and then email them to my phone and open them in iBooks.

  • InDesign CS5 won't open

I just received my Adobe CS5 and have installed it. Every program opens fine with the exception of inDesign. I had a trial version of inDesign CS4, but have uninstalled in incase there were any issues. I'm not sure why it won't open.
I've installed any applicable updates for the program as well as my Acrobat Pro to the newest version (9.something)
The software is closing down at the point where it says "Starting up Service Registry"
Any ideas on what could be going on?
I'm completely new to this software in general, but I thought I'd go to the forums and see if there was anyone out there who could help.

Hi, pmajor. Welcome to the Adobe user-to-user forums!
I noticed that your error report indicates that you are using build 4909 of Dreamweaver CS5, which is the release version. There have been some updates since, so I would suggest that you install the latest, 11.0.4 (build 4993), and then see if the problem persists.
You can get the latest update by going to Help > Updates in Dreamweaver, or by downloading it from the following page and then installing it: http://adobe.ly/DWUpdates

  • Dreamweaver CS5 won't open any files from a project

    Hi,
I'm working on a simple website. I work on it from 2 different locations (home and work), and the files are stored on a removable USB disk. The problem is that for some reason Dreamweaver won't open any files made on the other computer. It shows the sitemap, eveything. But when I click on a file, nothing happens.
I've tried a couple of things:
    1. recreate the site in the site manager - still the same problem
    2. remove the preference folder - still the same problem
The only solution is that I have to copy the files to my desktop, recreate the website in the sitemanager and then it works. But only if I copy the files to my desktop, any other location on my HD (not the removable USB disk) simply doesn't work.
Does anybody know why this happens? Or even better, does anybody have a tip of how to workaround this problem?
    thanks!

  • Iweb 2.0.3 won't open using OSX 10.4.11

Hi there, have had a look at a few forum postings but most appear to be from last year so thought i'd start a fresh one.
I recently updated my version of iWeb to 2.0.3. I'm using OSX10.4.11 on both a MBP and a G4. My problem is the program won't open.
I had tried deleting a plist file in the preferences folder as suggested in previous forums, but this hasn't made any difference except now I can't see the site I was working on. I have on my screen at the top the iweb options, file, edit etc but am unable to select any of these.
When I press the mouse cursor to select it turns into a spinning ball of death, round and round it goes....I haven't moved the site folder or anything like that, all I have done is update the software as suggested and now have this problem. Any useful advice would be appreciated as I rang support but my care plan ended 2 weeks ago, so it will cost $50...
    Cheers,

First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and see if iWeb will launch. If it does ignore the following.
If deleting the preference file doesn't help, copy the Domain.sites2 file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb file to the Shared file on the Mac. Log into another account (create one if you don't have a second account), move the Domain.sites 2 file from the Shared account to the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder for that account and launch iWeb.
Download and run BatChmod on the Domain.sites package with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. This is to insure the ownership and permissions are changed to the new account.
If iWeb opens and runs as it should you can publish from that account. You'll have to go into the System preferences to the .Mac section and put in the correct information for the account, i.e name, password, etc.
If iWeb works in the other account there could be a preference file other than iWeb's in your primary account that's causing the problem. To determine if that's the case try the following:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 won't open on Windows 7

Hello all. I installed CS5 Web Premium on a Windows 7 machine. Every CS5 application works except for Dreamweaver. I tried replacing, renaming and removing the "updaternotifications.dll" file and the application still won't open. I also disabled the registry key that gives Adobe CS5 the ability to automatically search for updates. Please help.

Hey rcshield thanks for your help.
I managed to find a solution in a different adobe forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4176387#4176387
    nylonblade's post:
    "Windows 7 users' possible fix
Hi all Win7 users of DW CS5 that dies after the splash screen.  You might want to try recreating your DW preferences as described here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/839/cpsid_83912.html#main_Restore7V
It worked for me.  I think the problem was caused by running CCleaner which deleted the wrong registry key.  Bad CCleaner!  Be careful running those "helpful" system cleaners, folks.  They can royally screw up a computer if you trust them too far.
Anyway, DW CS5 is back in action for me at least.
    Regards

    Worked for me.

  • Illustrator CS5 won't open after using trial version of CC

I get is --quote: This is an Adobe Illustrator file that was saved without pdf content. To place or open this file in another application,

The Illustrator file format is not downwards compatible.
You would have needed to save the files to the CS5 version.

  • CS5 won't open RAF files from FinePix HS10 & Camera Raw 6.3- Is there something I'm missing??

    Ok-
I've bought CS5 Extended and then updated it (including the Camera Raw 6.3 update).
I am using a MacBook Pro (and an iMac also).
When I try to open the RAF file I get the message "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." Yet the release notes for Camer Raw say that it will open FinePix HS10 files...
So I then decided to try a manual install of Camera Raw- I get the same message.
I have checked with other HS10 users and their PS does open them.
Is there something obvious that I am missing- or is there a problem with the camera raw or the photoshop cs5??
    Hope someone can help!!

Actually, that's wrong. Camera Raw 6.3 WILL run as a 64-bit plug-in when hosted by Photoshop CS5 if CS5 is running as a 64-bit app. It'll run as a 32-bit plug-in when hosted by Bridge or Photoshop CS5 set to run as 32-bit.
So, there's something else going on here....
How are you trying to open the raw files? From within Bridge or the Finder? How did you update Camera Raw to version 6.3? From the updater? Is ACR 6.3 in the correct install location? main Library (not the User but root), Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS5/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin
Can you open raw images from within Bridge? Have you tried to view raw files with Bridge before you updated Camera Raw? Have you trashed the cache foe the folder? In Bridge under Tools/Cache/Purge Cache

  • Bridge CS5 won't open at all, crashes immediately

    Hi you guys,
I have been using Photoshop CS5 for a number of months now, without any problems. Yesterday, just suddenly, Bridge just bombed out. And I mean it crashes completely, not even a spinning ball or a 'stop responding', it just disappears from the screen. The first time the crash generated an Apple Crash Report, as well as an Adobe one. After that, when I click on the Bridge icon, it bounces, no dot appears on the dock under the icon and after a while the icon stops bouncing and another Apple Crash Report gets generated. It does not generate an Adobe crash report because, I suspect, the program does not go far enough.
    I have tried the following:
Option clicked the B Icon - straight to Apple crash report.
Open B in PS, PS works perfectly and stays operational, but B generates an Apple crash report. I also tried mini B, the dock opens with message "waiting for Bridge", and nothing further happens.
Checked permissions in my Library for the following, all well:
    Caches/Adobe/Bridge CS5
    Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CS5
    com.adobe.bridge4.plist file
Verified and repaired permissions in DU, just in case. No luck.
Created a new user account and tried to open B - straight to Apple crash report.
Deleted the PLIST file and the items in Cashes (as suggested in another tread)  - straight to Apple crash report.
I have not yet tried a reinstall. I upgraded to CS5 from CS3 and I still have it sitting on my hard drive. In a previous thread I asked what to do with CS3 and the consensus was to leave well alone. Everything worked and I did not need the disk space. In fact, Bridge CS3 still opens without a problem. If a reinstall is necessary, how do I go about it then? Do I
deregister CS3 and CS5 and uninstall and reinstall the whole lot?
deregister and uninstall and reinstall CS5 only?
don't deregister and just reinstall the whole lot without uninstalling it first?
don't deregister and just reinstall CS5 only without uninstalling it first?
And if I have to uninstall, do I have to run one or all of the cleanup utilities of Adobe?
I have also not contacted Adobe help because I have an American copy of Photoshop and live in Europe. That disqualifies me from Adobe support.
    Here is my system:
iMac 5 with 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Mac OS X 10.6.6

    Hi guys,
Thanks for your time and trouble. Much appreciated.
I haven't been back because my iMac went from bad to worse and in the end I've had a complete system crash. The 2007 iMac G5 I have, is notorius for screen problems. Mine went pop in 2009 after only 18 months of use and was replaced by Apple after a war of words and overwhelming evidence of similar problems for that model on the internet. During that episode the machine was shut down with the power button several times, by me, by the shop and also by the technicians who had to diagnose and repair the computer (I have often wondered why Apple does not have an equivalent of the 'Windows' button, because via that it's easy to shut down a PC blind: Windows button>U>Return . . . the OS shuts down. Not clever of a company who regards themselves as 'Quality' with a self proclaimed capital Q). I suspect my computer picked up some hardware damage with the constant hard shutdowns. I was actually waiting for the next problem, I never really trusted the machine completely. But, as time passed, I got relaxed about it and did not notice the small signs developing like Bridge (and to a lesser extent, Photoshop) actually slowing down more and more the last couple of weeks. Now, in retrospect I can say that, but it was really very subtle. I did, after the screen episode, got into a routine of backing up my system regularly.
After the Bridge problem began, I tried a re-install, a Time Machine restore and eventually started fiddling with Disk Utility, trying to fix the hard drive. To make a long story short, all I get now when I power up the machine is a white screen with a spinning disk under the Apple emblem. I do know that the internal hard drive had issues because that was reported by Disk Utility, I still do not know what the damage is because I still have to take the machine in for repairs.
In the meantime, I am working on another iMac. I have installed all my software from scratch and I'm now trying to restore my old system - my PS actions, ACR actions, all my mails and other documents and my music. The problem I now have is that I had my user account encrypted with File Vault, while backing up with Time Machine. To everyone doing that, please don't - turn File Vault off and then back up. All my carefully backed-up files are now encrypted and can only be accessed with my broken computer! I can NOT restore my system to another computer! With older versions of Mac OS X (and, probably Time Machine), it's possible to use Finder to navigate to the encrypted back-up folder, double-click it and access your data with your master password and restore it by simply dragging and dropping the files on the new computer (but under no circumstances delete or change the back-up files in any way! And applications would, most probably not drag and drop without a problem, but there I stand to be corrected). With OS X 10.6 it is not possible any more to access data via Finder in that way. I know, because I can access my data up to end 2009, the rest is there but not accessible. I have searched everywhere on the internet and as yet, have not found a solution.
The other problem with Apple, I found out, is that in normal operations, it works so well and all is so easy that I don't really read any instructions. There is no need. Everything just happens, it's actually too intuitive. Not once, while setting up File Vault or Time Machine, was I warned that it might be a problem. Now, when I poke around on the internet, there are many posts that warn against that but I did not search for them because I had no clue! I just hope, after the faulty parts on my G5 is replaced, I can get into my back-ups. I shall keep searching and trying to find a solution. If I get one, I shall post here again for those of you with similar problems. I know this is no longer a Bridge or Adobe problem, I just thought I must report back, maybe the knowledge will help someone else.
    Cheers,
    Jay
