  • After Effects CS5 Won't Start on Mac OSX 10.6.3

Production Premium arrived yesterday, and having tried all the software, After Effects is the only one that won't start.
I'm pretty sure my computer meets the spec needed.
I have Intel Core 2 Duo processor, at 2.66 GHz, with 4GB of RAM and loads of hard drive space. Premier Pro works fine, it's just After Effects.
    Help!

I am having similar problems to those described above. I have Master Collection CS5.5 on a Mac running OS 10.6.8. The full suite had been running fine until late October, at which point After Effects stopped loading on launch. Illustrator and Photoshop start and run without problems, but After Effects will/would not launch. It hangs while loading MediaCore. When I launch in safe mode, I get an error with the Verdana font, so I've addressed that problem as suggested above (see my notes below). I successfully launched After Effects one time last week before uninstalling the Master Collection and taking all the steps outlined below, but the software has since refused to launch at all. I have not made any major system changes in the past two months. The most recent change I've made that might be relevant is the installation of FinalCut Pro, but the two packages have coexisted without incident since summer. I regularly use VLC, Quicktime Pro 10 and Quicktime Pro 7, but I have not made any changes to these recently.
Here are the steps I have taken:
    delete user preferences
    remove VLC and Quicktime
run software updates on Mac OS; my last update was a Java patch in late October; roughly coincides with when my troubles began. There are no ATI/Radeon patches available for Mac OS 10.6 that I can find, and I believe that the system's "Software Updates" provides such updates
completely uninstall and reinstall Master Collection and install software updates using "Updates" within Photoshop (have done this sequence three times)
    remove font list ("AdobeFnt11.1.lst" and "AdobeFnt11.lst") in /Library/Applicatio support/Adobe/PDFL/9.0/fonts
use Appzapper to remove After Effects before reinstalling it
boot in safe mode and launch either from .app file or from Package Contents/MacOS/ terminal executable
remove MediaCore components completely by placing them on the desktop
Please help. I can not afford to lose production time on this machine.

  • AE CS5 Won't Start Bridge CS5

From AE CS5, using the short-cut Ctrl-Alt-Shft-O or the menu item Browse in Bridge doesn't start up Bridge - Bridge CS5 will, however, start via Window 7's Start Menu.
Is there any Preferences or other switch somewhere for enabling this function? (I can't tell you whether this used to work and is broken, or whether it never worked).

This is an old thread but I found it because I had the same problem with a newly installed Windows 7 and brand new AE as part of the Master Suite. None of the ways to start Bridge from inside AE worked (Brose in Bridge, Browse Template Projects or Browse Presets). I'm just a new user trying to follow the exercises in Classroom in a Book... not a complete idiot but new to this.
Anyway, after a LOT of random messing around (grrrr...) I looked in "show hidden icons" at the bottom right of my screen and found to my surprise that the Bridge icon was there even though it wouldn't start from AE. I right clicked on it and unchecked "Start Bridge at login" and oddly it now works perfectly from within After Effects.
    Might help someone else.

  • Bridge CS5 won't start.....but it does for a 'new' user

    Newly installed CS5.
Bridge doesn't start. Error message: "You can't open the application Adobe Bridge CS5 because it is not supported on this type of Mac."
It won't open standalone, won't open from within Photoshop. The 'mini-bridge' in Photoshop starts to work until it needs to access Bridge and then....spins forever.
Created new user and....Bridge opens fine.
    Ideas?

  • Premiere CS5 won't start with new UAD drivers

I would say roll back a driver as CS5 is quite old and it was working ok.

  • Encore CS5 won't start on Windows 7 Ultimate

I recently installed Adobe CS5 Master Collection. I tested all of the applications in the suite and they all worked with the exception of Encore. When I launch the program it stalls on the "initializing PSD Support" window. I reinstalled the program and it had no affect. The softwares hangs there until I stop it in task manager. Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, how did you fix it?

    Hi everyone,
I found out why this wasn't working. I am running the trial software and apparently this is the only program in Master Collection that can't be run in trial mode. Also, I had to put the program in Windows Vista Compatibility mode before it gave me the correct error message.
Hope this is helpful for some of you that are kicking the tires of CS5 Master Collection.

  • CS5 won't start - "Could not load actions because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered"

It's version 12.0.2. When I click ok, it says "Could not initialize photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted)".
Any ideas what I could do to get the program to start? I've restarted the machine several times.

I managed to sort this out now - by deleting preferences

The ScriptingSupport.8li that comes with Photoshop CS5.1 should have the module version 12.1.0.0 as well.
It sounds as if you have done something where you have mixed modules from an older version of Photoshop (CS3) into those that Photoshop CS5 is enumerating during startup.
Did you, by chance, copy the entire contents of a folder (e.g. plug-ins or scripts) and get extra files you didn't intend?
Have you set an Extra plug-ins folder up to point to the plug-ins for an earlier version of Photoshop?
Mixing up versions of Photoshop is a no-no.
You may want to start by clearing your Photoshop  preferences...  Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediate after cold-starting Photoshop.  If you're quick enough, and you have to be VERY quick to get the keys down, it will prompt you to confirm deletion of the preferences it already has set up, which will then cause it to use defaults.

  • Indesign CS5.5 won't start

    Hi,
My Indesign CS5.5 won't start. Gets to 'Initialising' then 'Adobe Indesign has stopped working' I've tried reinstalling, then uninstalling all programs in the suite, then reinstalling, then uninstalling & reinstalling just Indesign, then using the Cleanup tool. Nothing worked. Any clues please?
    Thanks
    Grant

    Hi Eugene, Peter,
Thanks for your tips. I had some trouble actually finding those files, but I eventually moved the caches to the desktop and that fixed the problem. All going well now, thankyou.
BTW in the process a couple of other faults were fixed as well:
'Open recent' wasn't working and occasionally no image was loading on the screen so thanks again!

  • CS5 - Photoshop won't start:  preferences file  was invalid (it has been deleted)

    Environment:
    Win7 Ultimate - 4 gig ram - CS5 Design Premium
Seemingly out of the blue - Photoshop stopped loading and I'm getting two error messages :
first:           ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5 Extended:  "Could not load actions because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered
second:     ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5 Extended:  "could not initialize Photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted).
I've deleted the two Preferences Files - but they don't seem to repopulate on startup - (or if they do they are deleted per the error message)
I tried copying a Preferences file from another working machine but that failed as well.
In addition: Dreamweaver is kicking out the following error messages - but opens and seems to work normally.
The following JavaScript error(s) occurred:  Unable to open script file C:\Program Files (x86) Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\Configuration\Shared\Spry\Designtime\EditingUtils.js (error 2).
The following JavaScript error(s) occurred:  Unable to open script file "C:\Program Files (x86) \Adobe\Adobe dreamweaver CS5\Configuration\Shared\Common\Scripts\dwscripts.js" (error 2).
I'm in the middle of a big project and need to get back up quickly - any help would be much appreciated.
    Thx.

Run photoshop as administrator holding Ctrl + Alt + Shift, that should trigger a preferences reset prompt.
If that won't work I would do a backup and delete the entire Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings folder, not just the two files you mentioned.
As for your Dreamweaver issue, try deleting WinFileCache-********.dat (or FileCache.dat) from your Dreamweaver Config folder.
    Otherwise try deleting your preferences
    Exit Dreamweaver.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe.
    Rename the Dreamweaver preferences folder:
Dreamweaver CS5: Rename the Dreamweaver CS5 folder to, for example, Old Dreamweaver CS5.
Choose Start, type regedit in the Start Search, and then press Enter.
In the left pane of the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe
Remove the Dreamweaver preferences registry entries.

  • Bridge CS5 just won't start up

I use Adobe Photoshop and Bridge CS5 on Windows Vista SP2.
Recently I had a nasty virus on my laptop that had eaten away some of important .dll and .exe files and thus caused problems with many software applications. However, I have cleared the system of the virus now. The faulty applications get fixed when I reinstall them.
Similarly, I did a full cleanup and reinstall of Adobe Photoshop CS5 too. I even used the "AdobeCreativeSuiteCleanerTool.exe" and made sure I had no Adobe CS products on my machine before I reinstalled. As a result of this, Photoshop CS5 works fine, but Bridge CS5 fails to start up.
I see the below error when I try to launch it.

I have tried installing the latest Adobe Photoshop CS5.1.
I have even done the option of resetting preferences by holding down Ctrl key while launching Bridge.
I have also tried deleting everything under the below directory:
    "C:\Users\Adarsh\AppData\Roaming\Adobe"
I am convinced it is not a problem with Bridge CS5 but that of a module / dll that Bridge depends on. Unfortunately, due to the limited information I see in the error report, I am not able to go any further.
I am breaking my head over this from the past two weeks and been completely out of luck. Any help offered to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Did you do the virus scan yourselt for have it done in a shop?
The problem according to your report is
    Fault Module Name: StackHash_125c
It looks like this may be a virus.  But check online and see what others say.
Sorry I do not have better news.

Last time I worked with flash was January 23, 2012. It was working fine, but this morning I tried running the program and it won't start. Same with encore, it just doesn't start. Is this due to a windows update? Does anybody know of a workaround to this problem? Please help!

    Hi,
We were getting similar errors after installing Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Design Premium on Windows XP Professional SP3 and attempting to run the software as a standard user in the 'Domain Guests' group:
    Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5
Application starts but immediately closes shortly afterwards
    Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'Adobe Flash CS5.5 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
              AppName: flash.exe AppVer: 11.5.1.349 ModName: flbridge.dll
              ModVer: 9.0.0.0 Offset: 000162d0
    Adobe Illustrator CS5.1
Application displays the following error on startup:
              Adobe Illustrator
              Error loading plugins.
              AISaveForWeb.aip
              DxfDwg.aip
              PNGFileFormat.aip
              [ ] Don't Show Again
    Adobe InDesign CS5.5
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'InDesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
AppName: indesign.exe AppVer: 7.5.2.318 ModName: support for javascript.rpln
              ModVer: 7.5.0.142 Offset: 000361a8
    Adobe Photoshop CS5.1
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
              AppName: photoshop.exe AppVer: 12.1.0.0 ModName: scriptingsupport.8li
              ModVer: 10.0.0.0 Offset: 000d1a2e
In each of these cases, I found eventually that the problem was because the user account that I was testing with was a member of the 'Domain Guests' group on the domain. (Other posts online seem to indicate that the same problem may occur if accounts are set up to use mandatory profiles, a Windows domain feature). In every case removing the user from the Domain Guests group and then logging on again resolved the problem.
I have yet to find a workaround for this issue other than removing the user from the Domain Guests group which does not involve removing some of the functionality from this software. Indeed if you run the software as a member of the local 'Guests' group, you get an error stating that this is not supported.
However if Adobe would like to troubleshoot the problem, it may well be caused by a call to RSACryptoServiceProvider and/or CryptAcquireContext returning NTE_TEMPORARY_PROFILE, as described in the following MSDN blog post:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/alejacma/archive/2007/10/23/rsacryptoserviceprovider-fails-when-us ed-with-mandatory-profiles.aspx
It seems as if these API calls were not designed to be called in the context of a mandatory and/or temporary profile (such as that created for a Domain Guest user account), and so if Adobe need to use these calls in their programs, they need to handle the NTE_TEMPORARY_PROFILE error and work around it if possible. (Searching for 'NET_TEMPORARY_PROFILE' in Google brings up a few possibilities).
If you are trying to use the software in the mean time try removing your user account from the 'Domain Guests' group and see if this helps.
