CS6 6.0.1 Scrubbing/playback glitches

Hi,
I've got some in-app playback issues that appear to stem from software decoding/codec issues. I've got 6 matching workstations, all brand new HP Z820's with dual Xeon 2.0 ghz, 24 gb RAM, Nvidia 4000 graphics card (with CUDA support), and Decklink Extreme 3D output cards. These workstations are connected via 8gb fiber channel to a 90tb Rorke SAN via ATTO FC81EN cards (running July 28, 2010 fw). These boxes are running CS6 6.0.1, Windows 7 64 bit, and have the latest Decklink drivers. All workstations are showing similar issues.
The timeline has a mix of formats on it, including AVI, MOV and JVC ProHD long gop MP4. When shooting and editing using QT .MOV-wrapped files from the camera, the playback is much better...it's the MP4s that are problematic. We see in-app playback choppiness and tearing. Exports are pretty stable, but the quality of the in-app editing playback is unacceptable to the client. The previous workstations were running CS 5.5 and did not have these issues -- only when upgrading to CS 6 and new hardware did these issues appear.

Thanks for the suggestion. Updating to 9.6.6 did not solve the issue, but what did solve the problem was connecting the workstation to the internet and doing a comprehensive CS 6.0.3 update. Manually updating via USB stick did not work (update failed and reported that I was using counterfeit software -- a bug that adobe has since acklowledged).

There are some effects presets called Bad TV. I think there are 3 of them. You can search for them in the Effects and Presets panel. That should get you started. From there you could add another copy with mosaic, card dance, or other effects to build up the effect. There is no one click one plug-in solution to exactly duplicate that playback glitch.

Random Playback glitches with Premiere CC 7.2.2 on Mac Pro 2014

I am having random playback glitches on my Mac Pro 2014. I can't figure out the cause since its only in the playback and export of the footage. The source footage is glitch free.
I have noticed these two warnings when loading Premiere and Encode.
[cl_invalid_operation] OpenCL Error : Failed to retrieve device information! Invalid enumerated value!
Are the glitches due to this OpenCL Error and how can I fix it?

Ya, I'm very confused that this glitch is so below the radar. I would have imagine the editors would be up in arms. Unless they found some solution for it that's out there somewhere.
Because paying so much for a system which can't be fully utilized in a production is definitely cause for concern.

Playback glitch on export always at same TC

Premiere CS5.5 appears to be causing a glitch/stutter at the same spot consistently. I've trashed the renders and re-rendered, I've un-nested the sequence and re-rendered + recompressed, I've exported to MPEG2 via Pr and via dynamic link using Media Encoder and I still can't overcome this error. I've checked the source footage and the glitch is not present there (source foorage was a tape capture). All source files are transcoded to DV 29;97 NTSC 4:3 QT files.
The glitch itself is similar to a playback stutter but only at one specific point and always at that point. This glitch is also present on the SD DVD created in Encore. That's how I first noticed the error.
The timeline itself is almost 2 hours; I can export a shorter section around the glitch and that encodes without errors but I don't understand why encoding the entire timeline causes this reoccurring glitch/error.
I'm running production CS 5.5.1 (updated to current version), on a Win7 SP1 64-bit box, 16GB ram. Mercury Playback Engine is disabled since my card doesn't support it.
Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent the last two night troubleshooting this issue and would love to get back to producing something instead of troubleshooting.

Can you offer insight into Harm's comment. Should I avoid QT in favor of AVI for future projects since I'm on a Windows machine?
Quicktime is not a requirement to run PrPro on windows. But if you want full suite-wide feature support and optimal performance, it is highly recommended that you install quicktime on windows. That's not my opinion, it's an official Adobe statement:

I've had no problems with mov files on windows as long as I have the latest qt installed. A lot of people hate QT, although I'm not sure if they've actually had any problems with it or if its just part of mac vs pc animosity.... kinda like snowboarding vs skiing or Yankeees vs Sox. Different people prefer one or the other for different reasons and I've been unable to PROVE that one is always superior or inferior to the other. (I'm pretty sure the Yankees are evil though)
But if you're working mainly in SD and exclusively on windows, then I would definately recommend using DV AVI as your format of choice. But I would still say you should have QT installed, eespecially if you're running the production suite on there.

Apple TV iTunes Playback Glitch

Sometimes when I am playing music from my iTunes on my MacBook, designated to playback on Apple TV, I don't hear anything. To fix the problem, I have to (while playback is happening) change destination from Apple TV to Compute back to Apple TV. Then it work. Glitch seems to happen at random.
Sometimes, when controling iTunes either from my MacBook or from Apple TV, playback sounds distorted until I reboot Apple TV. Also annoying.
Can I do something to avoid these weird glitches?

This has been discussed, try a search. Someone posted some script links that may work. Not tried them.
Apple may or may not fix along with other bugs like genre listings with an apostrophe in. (Children's movies listing all library content for example).

Playback glitch when touch trackpad

Hi
I post here as it may help diagnose what I think to be a system or hardware issue.
Have logic 7.2 on macbook pro,have external sound card usb.
When playing multitracks back allgood, then I touch the track pad and a static glitch occurs in the playback.
Any ideas on how to further diagnose this major issue?

Just had the macbook pro sent in to apple where they replaced MLB and Battery. Had the shutdown problem.

Editing 4k RED files in CS6, does SLI help in playback and editing? (GeForce GTX-760 vcard)

I just bought a GeForce GTX-760 card and noticed great improvements to video playback over my old card.
I want to start editing RED 4k files and be able to play them back in 4k, currently I can achieve smooth playback in 1/2 resolution, but thought if I bought a 2nd card and used the SLI I'd be able to get 4k to playback on my system... would this work?
I've been doing searches for this, but can't find much on using SLI in Premiere CS6...
Short of getting a RED Rocket, how could I achieve smooth RED 4k playback and editing in CS6?

WIth CS6 you are limited to ONE video card.
With CC, SLI does not help. See Tweakers Page - What video card to use?
A second video card can help marginally with CC only, but the one thing that really helps is more cores, more L3 cache and higher clock speed.

Premiere Pro CS6 Extreme Lag / Choppiness In Playback Please Help

I have a brand new Windows 8.1 Desktop
1 GB Video Card AMD Radeon 7700
16 GB Ram
3.4 Ghz i7-3770 CPU
Scratch Disk on an external drive that spins at 7200 RPM
I'm coming from a Macbook Pro (with less specs then the current desktop I'm using) in which I had no problem with playback choppiness/lag with premiere pro cs6, so this has been quite frustrating to figure out. I've looked at several other threads, etc and there has been little help on the subject it seems. If anyone has any tips, advice, or can point me in the right direction to get rid of the lag/choppyness that would be a blessing.

Okay I solved the problem.

Here you will see "Video Previews"
Preview File Format
I switched from "Microsoft AVI" to "P2 720p 60hz dvcprohd"
Now there is no lag/choppiness in any of my video preview files. HOORAY!

PS CS6 issue with crop tool: graphic glitches

I am using Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2 and I'm experiencing an issue with the crop tool. Whenever I use the crop tool, move the frame around and then zoom in on the image, the image becomes noisy, pixelated or has other 'graphic glitches'. I changed the PS preferences to not use the GPU and then rebooted the computer. Still the same issue without the GPU.
Running on Mac OS 10.8.3, iMac 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6970M.
Is there another workaround to use this tool until it might get fixed? Thank you.

I've seen the same issue from time to time on windows 13.01.1 usually only on rather large pixel dimension documents.
Does it make a difference if you flatten the image before using the crop tool?
Also, using the classic mode for the crop tool doesn't seem to have that glitch.

Audition CS6 - WaveForm Extending Selection During Playback

I just upgraded to Audition CS6 from 2.0. In preferences - general I have "Extend Selection" selected under Editor Panel Context Clicking, so I can left click/right click extend selection.
I select a lot to delete during playback. With CS6, I start playing and left click on the waveform on the spot I want to be the start of my selection, then right click on the spot I want to be the end of my selection. The problem is as soon as I right click, it resets the selection start point to the current playhead position.
So it isn't selecting what I want. It moves my selection starting point. Please help. Thank you!

Yes the Play cursor and position cursor work slightly differently now in CS6. I would suggest that you use the In and Out point selection keyboard shorcuts (I and O) for this operation rather than the mouse.
If you start playing from the Cursor and then click "O" the waveform will be automatically selected from the start point up until where you pressed O. If you leave the file playing then a further click on O will update the out point to where the cursor is at that moment. If you also have Lopp Playback turned on then as soon as you select the Out point playback will jump back to the beginning of the selection and continue looping around the select portion. At the same time you can left click on the start or end of the selection to extend or decrease it. Shift click will also allow you to move the ends of the selection to where you click. You can also use Shift and the Left/Right cursor keys to move the In point in small increments in either direction and Shift+Ctrl and cursor keys for the Out point.

Timeline Video Playback Glitches after going to login window.

Anyone else had this problem. When I leave the office, I click the login window button to stay logged in but protect my documents.
When I come back and begin to work in the timeline in FCP again, it just repeats a small section repeatedly as the audio still plays correctly. The timeline marker moves right and everything, but the video playback is glitching. I have to save and re-start FCP each time I log back in.

I've experienced the same thing. I find that if you enable all frames in video playback (cmd+F12) it fixes itself.

Titles causing playback glitch

When I place a title on the timeline, playback is fine until I render it, then playback chokes with a glitch at the title. If I bring a title in from After Effects,there is no problem. This only began recently. My sequence settings match the video file, prores 422 1080p. I've tried rebooting, new sequence, repair disk, no luck.

Now I notice that a simple dissolve or fade to black also causes a glitch. This happens even if I check maximum render quality, and don't check use previews. I'm using the latest macpro with lots of available storage space, and latest version of PP CC.

Maya 2015 playback glitches on Macbook pro 15"

To whom it may concern,
i've bought recently a macbook pro 15" retina. I'm using Maya 2015 by Autodesk as my principal workstation and I noticing like losing a lot of frames during the playback, like glithces. How can I solve this problem? I having this issue also on Blender software.

I finally figured this out. It was the version our client embedded into the movie. Turns out it was all rolled into one. newer Flash player bundling worked fine!

Playback glitch while playing Apple Lossless in Mountain Lion?

I've been noticing some truly epic glitches while playing songs in iTunes. I just installed Mountain Lion yesterday, and I've had precious few problems so far. It seems to happen most often when playing an Apple Lossless format song, encoded from a FLAC using Audify. It's happened on several files.
Maybe I'm spoiled by how powerful my MacBook Air 13" i5 is, and I just need to return to the idea that I CAN'T do everything at once.
Playing the same song doesn't glitch in the same spot, so I don't think it's file specific. I'm thinking it must be throughput related.
Anybody else seeing this?

Try removing the com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist
Quit the application.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.5. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Help with Playback Glitch, Picture inside

I've had this problem for a while, but never really gotten around to trying to fix it. Any ideas? It usually combines two separate clips that are somewhat close in the timeline. I'm running a Mac Book Pro 2.8 ghz 4gb Ram upgrading to 6 soon.

Looks like your clip may be corrupted. match frame back to original clip and see if it plays ok. If it does, and you have a rendered effect on the clip, try rerendering (change the opacity of the clip and then restore it to force the clip to unrender). It's possible your sequence is corrupted. You can create a new sequence with the same settings and make the old sequence active, select all (command-a), copy (command-c), make the new sequence active and paste (conmand-v).
This could also be the sign of a problem with your scratch disk. You might run the diskutility: repair on it and if you have diskwarrior (highly recommended) run that. It's also possible it's a sign of imminent disk failure.
