CS6 Bridge always launches CS5 Bridge

After installing CS6 from Cloud upgrade, when ever I launch Bridge CS6, it always just launches the CS5.x version of Bridge.
I've tried both 32bit and 64bit with the same results. My other CS6 apps seem to be working fine.
This occurs no matter which Bridge CS6 icon I use (shortcuts and from the main directory.) Do I need to uninstall CS5 Bridge to get it to work?

No do not uninstall CS5.
You have Bridge CS5 running the the background.  Open CS5 Bridge and go to edit/preferences/advanced and uncheck "open Bridge at logon".
Then open Task Manager and click Processes tab.  Look for bridge.exe and close it.

  • CS6 Beta Modifies CS4 & CS5 Bridge File Associations (W7 Pro 64Bit SP1)

    Symptoms:
    After installing CS6 including bridge CS6 onto a W7 pro 64Bit Machine with SP1.
The File associations in the existing copies of CS4 and CS5 bridge are updated to make the CS6 Beta the default programme for opening the majority of file types from either CS4 or CS5 bridge.
When right clicking ona file from CS4/5 bridge only the option of opening in CS6 is presented
    Expected Bahaviour:
I expected that CS6 would be the default programme launched from CS6 bridge but that CS4/CS5 would remain the default programmes launched from their own versions of bridge.
Setting CS6 as the default file association in previous versions of bridge makes no sense at the Beta stage, as it interupts a clean migration back to existing workflow.
I would also question the value in not preserving the existing file associations in prior versions of bridge in the final CS6 release, as there are cases when it might be desirable to go back to a previous version of CS, in which case opening that version of bridge and launching directly into the prior versions of CS is very desirable.
Is there anyway to quickly restore the previous associations in CS4/CS5 bridge and be sure that they are exactly the same as prior to the CS6 beta install ?

Sorry for the noise. I misunderstood your depth of knowlege and what you had tried. I also committed the sin of not testing the procedure all the way through because I did not want to change the association on my computer. I get the same behavior.
    Guess for .jpg
    Registry shows for .jpg:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jpg\UserCho ice  Progid = Applications\Photoshop.exe
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command  (Default) = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
UserChoice seems to be added when I made the association choice. Note that it points into Applications with a non-version specific Photoshop.exe. Within HKLM\....\Applications there is only one Photoshop.exe -- no version -- and that entry points to CS6.
I believe that explains why the browsed to association is CS6. It does not explain why it would be set up that way. Probably has something to do with Windows special handling of certain file extensions. Beyond my depth and tells me I am not going to find a solution.

  • Why can't I do batch actions from CS4 or CS5 Bridge now when I could before?

Something has changed in my functions for doing batch actions in Bridge.  In CS5 Bridge I try to do a simple batch action of saving a DNG file as a jpg and closing the file.  When I attempt this I get a message saying 'The command "Save" is currently not available.
I try to do the same thing in CS4 Bridge.  I go to the Tools menu and look for Photoshop in the drop down menu but it's not there.  This is how I do batch action processing with my Windows version of CS4 Bridge.  I am confused about what has changed when I was able to do batch actions routinely in CS4 and CS5 Bridge on my Mac.

Something has changed in my functions for doing batch actions in Bridge.  In CS5 Bridge I try to do a simple batch action of saving a DNG file as a jpg and closing the file.  When I attempt this I get a message saying 'The command "Save" is currently not available.
Batch using tools menu from Bridge to reach Photoshop should work as expected in both CS4 and CS5. If not then there is something wrong on either your system or install.
Go to Bridge CS5 preference and look for the section Start Up Scripts and see if there is still a Start Up Script for Photoshop CS5 present and with a checkmark in front for activation. If not try first to restart bridge holding down option key and choose refresh preferences. This should retrieve the original Start Up scripts again.
If your command save as is not available check the action and see what the save path for that acton is. If it is a copied action from an other system changes are that it still contains the save path for the old drive and if the script can't find it it provides a warning message.
Also check if the drive you save to has both read and write permission.

  • CS3 "browse" click on image launches CS5 even when CS5 is closed

I have both CS3 and CS5 (the latter with the 12.0.1 update),  installed on my iMac running 10.6.4..  I understand that I cannot have both CS3 and CS5 open at the same time.
I am working on a personal project in CS3 and would like to complete some pp and  printing in CS3, but  when I click on an image in CS3 Bridge, it launches CS5, even though CS5 is not open, and won't let me work or print  in CS3.  I quit CS5 again, and start over but the same thing happens. What am I doing wrong ?
    Thanks..... Carolyn

My tech came today and solved this problem for me.
I knew that you can only have either CS3 or CS5 open , not both.  The problem was that if I was using CS3 and doubled clicked an image in a folder to open it, CS5 took over.  So here's what solved the problem.
With only one of the programs open, open the folder with the images you want in either CS3  or CS5.  (Or I guess CS4 if you have that).  Then click on the image you want to open to highlight it. ( Don't double click to open it.)  Go to File > Open With >  choose either CS3 or CS5 from the drop down menu to open the image.  That's it.
After installing CS5, that seems to be the default program, so that is why double clicking on an image in CS3 automatically reverted to the default CS5 to open the image on my Mac.
Thanks to my tech for figuring this out for me !

  • How do I launch mini bridge in photoshop cs5?

Can't find the mini bridge function in in the meny panal on photoshop.
    Any tips?

I don't have CS5 currently installed.  I'll show you in CC.  There is no mini bridge in CC 2014. Mini Bridge is an extension so you can use menu Window>Extension>Mini Bridge to open the Mini Bridge Panel.  If the bridge is not running in the background you should see a button  in the mini bridge panel you can use to launch the bridge.  Once up the mini bridge pabel should function.

  • Running both CS6 and CS5 bridge

I'm running CS5 bridge but using CS6 tools from the cloud tools.  I keep CS5 on board because CS6 Bridge is really useless for getting any work done.  I face major pauses when I try to use any of the menu buttons or try to right click on anything.  Usually at least 5 seconds.
So I just use CS5 which is very quick to respond to those kind of clicks.
I'm seeing one problem that is apparently related to having both versions:
    In CS6 Bridge:
When I set Edit/Camera Raw preferences/ Camera Raw Cache/ Select location
It also sets the same place for CS5 Bridge.  And Vise versa if I set it from CS5 it changes CS6 as well.
Somewhere they must be using the same configuration file.  Just at a guess I'd say that is not supposed to happen.
Can someone who knows more about the internal workings give me some advice about keeping  the different versions from sharing settings?

    Curt Y wrote:
CS6 and CS5 Bridge use different cache database.  So same location, different file.
By the way I pretty much do he same thing.  Even though CS6 Bridge is now 64 bit, it has too many pauses to do its job.  Most are related to building cache.
Yup, its way to aggravating and time wasting to try to use CS6. In my case, running CS5, the one draw back is that I don't have access to the PS CS6 batch processor, so if I have need of that, I have to put up with CS6 long enough to get that done.  Forutnately I don't use it all that often.. at least the recent projects I've undertaken have not necessitated it more than a few times.
Are you able to access the PS CS6 image processor from Bridge CS5? (Tools/photoshop/ And here you see several batching sort of tools including the Image Processor).  For me; when running CS5 the Tools menu does not have a "photoshop" entry at all.
I'm sort of jumping to a new topic here and hope you don't mind.  I wondered if you might have developed a numbered list of things one should try when having the stalling problem some users are seeing with CS6 bridge.  I would like to take one more systematic stab at getting a usable installation of CS6 bridge before resorting to the long and usually painful process of getting help from adobe.
It would really be handy if someone with your grasp of this tool could codify and distill down a step by step list of things to try to get CS6 bridge working better.
Your respones to me and to at least one other poster I've noticed (I'm sure there have been more) contain lots of different things to try but with my shortage of experience with this kind of troubleshooting I'm not sure what order to attempt things in.

  • CS5 Bridge & Photo Downloader Bug/Feature Request

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Hopefully Adobe reads through this forum.
With CS4, my camera download workflow required using Image Capture, DNG Converter, and Bridge. With CS5, I can now perform the same workflow all in Bridge. I love it! Thanks Adobe. There seems to be a couple of bugs though. When importing with the new Photo Downloader, I do a "Rename Files" along with a "Convert To DNG." (part of my workflow has always been to back up the original NEFs and also the converted DNGs. You can never backup too much). Well with CS5, the NEFs get renamed and converted to DNGs but the renamed NEFs disappear. I'm left with the original camera-named NEFs which I then have to rename through Bridge's "Batch Rename" so that I can keep them matched to the DNGs. Adobe, you are missing the "Keep Original Files" for the "Convert to DNG" menu.
Also, the renaming sequence doesn't seem to update itself for the next import like it does in "Batch Rename" (which I always loved).
Anyways, thanks for the Photo Downloader. It saves me several steps.

Well, I have to retract my kudos for the Photo Downloader. I have gone back to my previous workflow of using Image Capture, DNG Converter, and Batch Rename. Photo Downloader has proven to be very unreliable with importing files in sequential order. And its inability to append past numbering is frustrating.

  • Photoshop CS5 Bridge not working

I have windows 7 and cannot get the Bridge from Photoshop CS5 to work this is a real problem as most of my photographs are taken in RAW and I can't see the picture in the folder
I have tried most of the answers to this problem from the forum. Launching from start menu and through Program Files doesn't work. Not sure how to change from 64 bit to 32 bit in Windows 7
Adobe if you read this why not solve a problem instead of just bringing out a new version and expecting us to purchase this?

You need to give more details.  Why does it not work - error message, crash, freeze, never worked, worked yesterday?
Does it work when launched as seperate program from Bridge icon?

  • Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?

Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?
This drives me bonkers.  Everytime I look for an image I've been working on, I go to Bridge and I'm always presented with the images sorted by rating instead of by date.
Then I click on the microscopic sized, extremely tiny arrow that allows one to choose 'sort by date modified' and I resort them to find the file I need.  So that's always 3 extra clicks to find the image.
WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
    Thanks for any help.
I know I could just keep the recent files rated the highest, but still, I'm wondering if there's a way to make it work the way I'd like it to work?
    jn
p.s.  Note to Adobe: Please make the selection button for sorting images arrow larger than a fraction of the size of the period at the end of this sentence.  Thanks.

WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
By default it does stay at the latest selected sort order so this could mean it is due to your install.
First of all try to reset the preferences for Bridge, hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset preferences. This sets it all to default. First try if the problem is solved then set prefs again to your own custom wishes.
Also check and repair permissions for the OSX itself (Apple has disk utility in the utility folder for this job, and there are other 3th party applications)
And be sure to have the latest update for Bridge. (Bridge CS5 should be 4.0.5.11)
In addition to the method Tai Lao pointed you already to there is a third option, use right click mouse button in content window and the pop up menu has also the sort option at the bottom of the row

  • Jpeg thumbnails too dark in CS5 bridge

All of a sudden my jpeg thumbnails appear very dark and muddy in CS5 bridge. Such images are of normal brightness when opened in Photoshop proper.
Equally puzzling is when a jpeg image is then "saved as" back to the same folder as a TIFF (for example) the jpeg looks dark but the TIFF version of the same file looks correct. RAW files still look correct.
This seems to be a recent problem as jpeg images I processed a few ago weeks ago still dislay normally in bridge.
I've tried purging the folder cache without effect. Thumbnail quality is set to "always high". I feel I may have accidentally altered a setting but cannot think wghat it might be. Please help.

Since my posting I have realised this problem is confined to images from the Nikon D800 camera ONLY. Jpegs from my other Nikon cameras display normally.
That does indeed not indicate to a cache problem alone. But you stated in your earlier post purging cache did solve the problem temporarily hence my idea about this solution.
I still think you should try to move the files to another new folder but you have provided us with very less detail about what computer, systemOS etc you are using and if you have the correct ACR version for support of your Nikon D800 which I believe is ACR 6.7 (in Photoshop use menu Photoshop / about Plug ins / Camera Raw to check which version you have.
Just to say I shoot RAW and batch convert to sRGB jpeg from ACR. It doesn't matter what size option I save to from ACR.
I don't follow this workflow, shooting Raw provides you with all details and data from your sensor but you need to go through them for fine tuning the settings. Shooting jpeg means you loose a lot of those details and let the camera software decide to fine tune for you (in a nutshell, it is a bit more complicated…)
Shooting Raw and without change settings and fine tune just convert these files to sRGB jpeg is in my opinion pointless. You better use the option to shoot Raw + jpeg and use the jpegs out of camera for this purpose.

  • Unable to launch mini bridge

I have re-installed my edition of PS CS6 on my iMac running Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5.  The problem I had before has not resolved.  I am unable to launch mini bridge from CS6.  Error message is 'Waiting for Brige CS6....'
I went into Finder to delete 'switchboard' from preferences and re-started.  The problem continues and 'switchboard' reappears in preferences.
    Can anyone help?

Do you have big bridge running before clicking on mini-bridge?

  • CS5 Bridge stutters

I upgraded from CS4 to CS5 with no
issues. I can open both the 32 and 64 bit version of PS with no issues.
But when I open CS5 Bridge, the PC slows and my mouse stutters. My processor meter jumps up to 50% and then down to zero...like its stuck...and will continue to do this until I close bridge...and then all is fine.
I have 8GB of memory and have tried all forms of settings in the PS memory allocation, cache sites, etc...nothing changes.
I have tried resetting bridge using the CNTRL command on opening. I have tries manual removing cache loacstions, etc.
    All with no change.
I even tried removing and reloading CS5...no change.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I have a case open but the PFD response "every two days try this" is getting really frustrating!!!!

  • It asks me to close CS5 Bridge. It is NOT open. Help.

I am installing PS CS6 from the CD I purchased. I am told to close CS5 Bridge. It is not OPEN. Help.

My apology. I thought it was a live “chat”, and I was also very frustrated.
Yes, I am familiar with the working of Task Master, and I used it. It revealed that PS CS5 Bridge was NOT running. Can you tell me how to “get around” this problem?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Photoshop Bridge always crashes during a copy process.

While moving a folder with Photoshop Bridge the application crashed and the folder has disappeared on my disk.
Why dose Photoshop Bridge always stalls while moving and copying files or folders? What's the background and the solution to prevent this?
Is there a solution to recover the files. Standard recovery software dose not work.

    Hi together,
"loosing" the files was my mistake. I have took some time for investigations. I don't know why but I moved the two folders to my C: disk into my personal picture folder. The biggest mistake was that I have not searched on my C: disk. I searched on every disk in my PC by I missed searching on C:. Sorry for any confusion regarding this matter. By the way, I am happy that my pictures didn't get lost.
Any way, I am still facing the main failure : Bridge always crashes after I am moving or copying files, even by using drag and drop.
I have now completely updated my PC to exclude any driver bugs (SATA, video card, chipset, LAN, USB, audio, motherboard bios). I have also installed a new data disk. Please hold in mind, my PC is actually running very stable. There is no issues with any other software.
At the end the situation has not changed ... Bridge always crashes after moving or copying files.
Any ideas what I can change to get rid of this problem ?
