CS6 Bridge "Auto-Stack" question

As a landscape photographer I shoot multiple exposures of the same image for use in HDR. I recently used the Auto-Stack feature under Stacks in Bridge. It did not work well, it grouped the images incorrectly. Now I want to undo this and go back to the basic panel where all the images are shown in sequence. How do I do this? I have tried to purge this file, restarted Bridge but always shows it with stacks. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Don't have Bridge active for the moment but in the same menu as you found autostacks there is an option to unstack all from groups. You probably have to select all files first. After unstack all you can use the sort filter date created to getbthem again in the right order.

CS4 Bridge Auto stack tool makes my computer Crash

I'm using a modern computer running Windows XP, 3 GB of memory , a modern video card with 1 GB of memory and the latest drivers, Photoshop CS 4 (with the latest updates), and the bridge auto-stack panorama/HDR doesn't work. When I click on the tool I get an error message that says "images missing preview data (then the image name) within okay box. This repeats on and on, until a file is created named "auto collection cash.XML). It would appear that the process is complete however this is not the case as bridge locked up and I can't access the stack. Closing and reopening bridge allows me to delete the XML file. I can then unstacked the images. Incidentally, if I manually select the files, I can successfully use either the panorama, or HDR tool, so it would appear that it's not a problem with the files themselves. If I use the auto stack tool on JPEG files it works. If I use it on any folder with raw files (in this case canon CR2), the 'images missing preview data" dialog box opens up.
Recently, I worked with several Adobe support technicians, who came to the conclusion that I had a problem with my Windows user file, and not with Photoshop and bridge. I accepted this principle and created a new user account in Windows, I used the Adobe downloadable uninstall program (to clean out Photoshop and any registry entries). I then reinstalled Photoshop and re-created my preferences etc. and found that the auto stack tool worked fine. It's been about two weeks, and as you may imagine there is an ongoing development and improving of the Windows user file. Yesterday I found the auto stack lockup problem has returned.
Can anyone suggest why I'm having this problem? I'm aware that I can repeat the above, but I'm concerned that it will not solve the problem long term. This auto stack tool could be very helpful, but I'm not sure it's worth all the time and effort to fix it only short-term.

Hello: I notice that no one has replied to your post. That is a shame. I am having the exact same problem that you described and it is happening in two different macs running the latest version of Leopard, OS 10. 5.8. I believe the problem is with Adobe and not your operating system, or any corrupted files in your user files. Have you had any luck solving your problem? Auto-stack Panorama/HDR question

When I try to use the auto-stack command in a folder open in bridge I get a warning box stating "Image is missing preview data" for every image in the folder. Is there a way to get around this, the folders I would like to use it on have between 400-1000 images. Thanks

Lightroom already has an export option in the Library or Develop module's Photo>Edit In menu. Check it out - it's called Merge to Panorama in Photoshop. All you need do is select the relevent images then choose this command, Ps launches and you do the rest from there. A similar command exist for HDR.

CS6 Bridge & .DNG questions

Trying out CS6, Bridge doesn't open:
File > Browse Bridge = cursor changes to hourglass but Bridge never opens;
File > Browse in Mini Bridge = " waiting for CS6 Bridge..." message indefinitely;
am I missing step? ACR8.3 & TIF process all work AFAICT...
I've read about CS2-CS6 conflict, what is latest on how to overcome?
I shoot RX10 RAWs, Sony .ARW doesn't offer text fields.
.DNG offers several, including Description field -- I want my RAWs captioned.
(& am assuming .DNG field will transfer to TIF Description field upon conversion)
But what, if anything, do I lose by converting .ARW to .DNG & keeping only .DNG...?
(use of rather lousy Sony converter, I assume; what else?)

Improve Auto-Stack and Process Collections with user settings

I have read through all of the Bridge request discussions, and encountered a few comments on the stacking process but nothing to explain my critique and feature request. My apologies for any redundancy.
Bridge CS4 includes two features that would (virtually) streamline my entire photo-organization workflow. Brilliant! Except that they offer zero configuration and my default scenario is very different from Adobe's, so these two would-be-wonderful features are pretty much useless to me, and to anybody else who doesn't happen to shoot in the way the presets are configured.
The first feature is to automatically group images into stacks, based on their similarity, exposure settings, and timestamps. Unfortunately Bridge considers no minimum or maximum amount of photos per stack, and has a fixed timestamp window of 18 seconds. I shoot everything in three-exposure bursts and sometimes multiple shots in less than 18 seconds, so being able to say "process collections in 3-item stacks only" would be absolutely perfect. For other people, being able to limit the timestamp range or other min/max exposure options would work great.
The second feature, which could save me hours every week but is equally useless, is to automatically process collections in Photoshop. My biggest ire about this function is that it completely ignores stacks that I have manually created AND stacks that were previously created using the auto-stack feature. Every time this function is run, it re-runs the auto-stack process from scratch and then delivers the collections to Photoshop. Not only is this made useless by the previously mentioned inflexibility of the auto-stack process, but even if auto-stack worked perfectly, this would waste time by doing the entire thing again and denying the user the option to review the stacks before committing to the Photoshop processing. The process collections feature would also be much improved if the option were given to process ONLY panoramas or HDR photos, or auto-detect. I have never shot a panorama in my life and I'm sure plenty of people have never shot HDR, but Photoshop isn't capable of knowing our intentions and there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to instruct it.

Agree. It is an interesting capability that falls short of being really useful. I feel like an ingrate to complain, but ...
I'd also like to see the capability to specify something than "Auto" for the panorama option. My experience is that most of my panos work best with "Cylindrical + Geometric Correction".
My experience is that once you get past 5+ images in a pano, it becomes very tedious ... and then 20+ images in rows is painful. Unlike a single image that you can quickly evaluate, with panos I find I need to make the pano to tell if it going to turn out. I have been generating smaller 1800x1200 or 1200x1800 files to speed up the evaluation process, but it is still very manual and tedious.
The Auto-Stack generates a AutoCollectionCache.xml, but I haven't found it workable to edit this. I'd like to be able to modify it to "force" my knowledge of what is in a group. It seems to check the time-stamp, and re-do the Auto-Stack, thus ignoring my changes. Sigh.

CS6 Bridge "Lens Specification Data" appears incorrect (W7 Pro 64Bit SP1)

Observed Results:
The new "Lens Specification Data" under the Camera Data (Exif) appears to be be correctly reporting the lens type but shows the lens as "f/0" which is incorrect
This appears to be the case with pictures taken with two different lenes both of which are reported as f/0
Further up in the same tab the "Lens" data is correctly reported for the lens type and maximum aperture.
Expected Result:
Wasd to see the maximum aperture of the lens reproted in addition to the lens type, which I would ahve expected to be the same data as reproted under the "Lens" information higher up in the same panel.
Which begs the question what is the difference between the "Lens" information and the "Lens Specification Data" meant to be ?
Observed these results with the following two lenses:
EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

The camera in questions is a Canon 7D (actullay I shoot with a pair of 7D's and the results are the same for both cameras), the files are both .CR2 and .JPG, with the same results being seen for both file formats. the images have not been edited in any other applications but viewed immediately after donwload to the PC from the memory card.
I have also viewed these and other older images in both the CS6 and CS5 versions of bridge for comparision purposes and see the same differences irrespective of how old the image is or if its been previously edited in CS5 for both .CR2 and .JPG files.
In addition I also don't see an indication of the subject distance displayed in CS6 bridge, although the option is selected and works as expected in CS5 bridge.
I will send you a seperate email with screen shots showing an example in both CS5 and CS6.

Updating CS6 & Bridge

I cannot update CS6 or Bridge. When I click on the Adobe Application Update Manager I get the following message - "The update server is not responding. The server might be offline temporarily, or the internet or the firewall settings may be incorrect." I have turned off firewall and anti virus as well as tried updating several times over the last few days, each time the same message. Any help would be appreciated in enabling updates. Sherwin

In CS6, the auto updater should work. But…
If it still not working, try updating manually. there are precise, detailed instructions on the downlaod page.
If you had mentioned your platform, Mac or Windows, I could have provided you a specific link. You should be able to find it yourself, however.

Auto Stack JPG's in Front of Raw

Hi,
I shoot everything JPG plus Raw. I have a number of reasons why, but would rather not make this post any longer..... I would like to be able to view everything in my library with all JPG's stacked in front of the RAW with the same file name. I have been able to Auto-Stack by time (setting time to Zero Seconds) does this. The Problem is that the NEF's appear first in the stack. I want the JPG's first, always. I can figure out any way to do this automatically. It looks like I would have to manually change which file is first. I shoot thousands and thousands of files, I need to automate this. How can I do this?
Secondarily, does anyone know how I could apply a star rating to just the jpg and have it also apply to the raw file?

I don't ever have time to process more than a handful of Raw shots from any one shoot and frankly 95% of the time the JPG's look as good as the Raw files even after a fair amount of processing, so I really only need to process the Raw file on certain types of files. Having said that I am a very competent at processing and use combination of lightroom, photoshop, NIK, OnOne and Topaz. I just don.t need to do post capture and pre-out sharpening, cloning, healing, content aware fill, gradient filters, advanced color processing etc... on 98% of my files. The JPG's I create are good enough most all the time.
It seems that many people would want to work this way. I don't to rate all of the JPG's and the Raw's. I just want the Raw's (negatives) behind the JPG's so I can dive into them if I need to for the 5% or so of the files that I really want to spend time on. That doesn't mean I won't use the the other 95% (well more like 10%), it just meanst that the jpg's are just fine to email to friends or make photo books. Not every file that comes out of Lightroom is supposed to be the cover of Sports Illustrated. Raw and the JPG that I captured are the same file and it should be treated as such. Importing as the same file doesn't give you any access to the JPG so I don't see the purpose.
agree with your workflow and raw+jpg should be linked as same file (as in aperture)

Auto-stack bracketed raw images?

When I execute the auto-stack panorama / HDR command on a directory filled with exposure bracket groups intended for HDR processing, Bridge issues a warning message "Image is missing preview data" apparently for each and every image it inspects. If I click through however many warning messages come up, eventually, the command properly stacks the raw images.
I actually tried the build and export cache feature, exporting a cache directly to the directory of raw images I wanted to stack. That did not help. Still get the same warning message over and over again.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

Never used this before (I always first sort and rate my files manually) but tried it on a folder and first time had two of those messages (but there where a few other files- already fused using Photomatix- and some layered etc etc. that might have caused that). Then I tried it with a bunch of HDR and Panorama files (already saved as tiff for use in Photomatix BTW) that I placed in a new folder. Now the result was better but to be honest not completely flawless, it left out 1 file out of 4 stacks from total 22 files.
Then tried again on the folder before and this time no error messages but also a pretty lousy result I'm afraid. Some clearly 1 stop difference series of 6 shots divided in 2 stacks so I stick with my manual method
However it might be a cache related problem for you. If you have one folder for testing first try a purge cache for folder using the menu tool / cache / purge cache for folder and try again

Auto-Stacking, please

Like in Lightroom, we should have an auto-stacking function. Two options would be highly useful: stack by creation date like in LR but please allow intervals in tenths of seconds, and stack by file name which woulds tack all files with different extensions to a base filename.
BTW, the Bridge CS3 2.1 update really sped things up - thanks!

Thanks, but I definitely need it this way. You see I download stories into imagery, for example an article on Gizmag may take my eye and so I download the image, then embed the story into the metadata and the title etc... often there is more than one image to this story, its relevant and I like it also, so that gets downloaded. Once in my Library I stack them to keep them together, this is something I do quite regularly.
You'll agree I'm sure that stories and articles, blogs and the like all start with an image or at least feature one, its how we consume information these days, so the image is the story for me, I'm a very visual person.
I keep the trackback URL of the story for reference, this is a constant among imagery from a particular story and so I could stack with this data. The idea of Stacks at present I think then must be for traditional professional DSLR types, well, I'm more versatile with what I'd like to use Aperture for, I think its taking on that role with the third release accepting video and audio also.
If I can't script it behind the scenes then I guess it can't be done... perhaps there is a way to automate filtering by URL and then Stacking the results? But would I have to watch that or would it be a background job?

Bridge auto expands from one monitor to two when accessing folders

When I try to rename a folder Bridge auto expands from one monitor to two monitors and doesn't let me change the name. If I try to delete a photo it auto expands, lets me delete the photo but remains expanded across two monitors. This is a new experience I have had Bridge CC for about a year and this activity started on Friday. How do I prevent Bridge from automatically expanding across the two monitors?

Mac CS6 Bridge will not open

I know this has been discussed a lot on the forums and I have read all of those, but I am frustrated after 3 weeks of working on this. I bouht my wife Photoshop CS6 for xmas and loaded on our iMac running 10.8.2. She was running Elements 8. CS6 Bridge will not open. Get a message "operation can not be completed". It will also not open from inside Photoshop either. Following other posts, went into Library and deleted switchboard folder, plist files, and other listed files. Did an option start on CS6 and reset to factory, delete thunbnails. Performed PRAM and disk permissions repair. None of this has fixed the problem. The only thing that works is creating a new user account. Bridge opens fine in my test account. Next step is to make test account the main account; however, this is going to be a pain. Any other ideas before I undertake this?

Looks like you have tried all the suggested methods, so good job on that. Your solution to create a new account is one that has worked for many where nothing else has worked. This usually means some permission or default setting has not been affected by your actions.
The only suggestion I can offer is to uninstall CS6, run Adobe Script Cleaner, then reinstall. Hope this works.

CS6 Bridge and Mini Bridge problems

Installed CS6 and clicked on Brose in Bridge. I get the rror messare could not complete the Brose in Bridge commmand because Photoshop was unable to find the Java Script plugin. Also when clicking on Brose in Mini Bridge I get the message cannot complete the command because the extension could not be loaded I have uninstalled CS6 and reinstalled it and get the samew message Help please

Opening files in CS6 Bridge

When I try to open a file in photoshop from CS6 Bridge I get an error message: "Windows cannot find 'C:\Windows\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe' Make sure you have typed the name correctly and then try again."
I just moved from CS5 to CS6 and do not have CS4 on my machine.

Did you uninstall CS6 beta before you installed CS6 final? If not uninstall now. You machine may be fairly well messed up by now.
If your only Adobe product is CS6 here is what I would do.
Save any files you might want from PS and Bridge then deactivate and uninstall PS.
Download and run the Adobe Script Cleaner, follow instructions.
Install CS6 and reactivate. If it asks for qualifiying s/n, use the CS5 #, no need to have it installed.
