CS6/Bridge doesn't use GPU on Nvidia Optimus machines

Photoshop CS6/Bridge
Win8.1 64bit/Nvidia GTX 870M
Is there a way to force Adobe Bridge to using the Nvidia GPU rather than “software rendering”?
The problem: Starting Bridge on notebooks with the Nvidia Optimus (I tested several) in “preferences -advanced”, the option, “use software rendering”, is not tagged which is correct.
But as soon as I open an image and recheck with the preferences, “use software rendering” is tagged and greyed out, hence zooming and all other manipulations suffer from a lack of speed and smoothness, slide-show for ex. is not usable at all.
I’m familiar with the Nvidia control panel and of course the Nvidia GPU is assigned to Bridge.exe there.
Strange enough, in the registry, the Bridge – preferences value for “use software rendering” always stays on “0”, which is correct.
BTW. Photoshop is running fine on the Nvidia GPU.
It is a shame that Bridge performs a lot better on a 6 years old laptop than on a brand new high end gaming machine only because there is Optimus on board.
Does anybody have an idea for a workaround?

Is there any insight here? I can't seem to get my brand new work y70 to use the NVidia graphics card for any external displays! What the heck is going on!? And, moreso, why can't even the crummy Intel onboard graphics push 2560 x 1600 via either HDMI or USB (through a replicator)? I've had a 30" monitor running 2560 x 1600 for 5 years. This is a brand new laptop and can't push out high res?! It's crazy to me!! EDIT: I presently have the Intel display adapter disabled in the device manager. I have video on the laptop display but I can no longer get ANY external displays to work. Which means, to me, it would seem that the NVidia GPU is 100% relegated to the laptop display, ONLY.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Warp Stabilizer not using GPU/CUDA why?

    Hi,
I installed CS6 and tried the Warp Stabilizer, I undestand that only part 2 of the process (stabilize part) is GPU accelerated, but I can't get any acceleration from GPU, my GPU is idle at 1% usage (GTX580) and all the processing is going to CPU. The renderer/playback is marked CUDA so its not that.
    Is there anything I'm missing?
    Thanks

OK, this surprised me a bit. I have a state-of-the-art new PC with plenty of RAM, a fast processor and lots of cuda cores. See the specs here: http://www.stevengotz.com/
It took over 10 minutes to stabilize one minute of video - 1800 frames. It wasn't all that shaky to begin with, but it was handheld and therefore looks better after using Warp. There was one section that was so bad, I sliced the clip up and chose not to stabilize that part after the fact. So I thought that it might have added a little to the problem. But no. I tried just 180 frames of reasonably stable hand held video from the same clip and it took almost a minute.
Now, once the process was finished, I had no problem playing it back in realtime without rendering. But what is taking so long? I understand that there is a lot of work to do, but why isn't it using the power I have provided?
This is a screen shot of my resources about two minutes into the process.
I would love to know what I need to do to speed up this process. I get that it is working in the background. Is it possible to make it work in the foreground? I would not mind if it maxed out the RAM or the CPU or both if it would help.
edit: I just submitted a Feature Request to let Warp run in the foreground using every available resource.

  • CS6 Bridge doesn't run, nor does Application Manager

After just installing CS6, when I try to run the Application Manger it 'updates' itself and then says it fails to install. Also when I try to launch Bridge, either on its own or in any of the other programs, it does not run. Everything else seems to be OK.

  • CS6 Bridge & .DNG questions

Trying out CS6, Bridge doesn't open:
    File > Browse Bridge = cursor changes to hourglass but Bridge never opens;
    File > Browse in Mini Bridge = " waiting for CS6 Bridge..." message indefinitely;
am I missing step?  ACR8.3 & TIF process all work AFAICT...
I've read about CS2-CS6 conflict, what is latest on how to overcome?
I shoot RX10 RAWs, Sony .ARW doesn't offer text fields.
.DNG offers several, including Description field -- I want my RAWs captioned.
(& am assuming .DNG field will transfer to TIF Description field upon conversion)
But what, if anything, do I lose by converting .ARW to .DNG & keeping only .DNG...?
(use of rather lousy Sony converter, I assume; what else?)

    > In Bridge, hover your mouse on the right of those truncated texts, the cursor will change to a double arrow that will let you expand the descriptions.
Thanks!  Yes, I soon discovered that I needed to expand column rather than just window...

  • Can we use CS6 and CC at the same time on different machines?

We have a Creative Cloud subscription and have software downloaded to an iMac and also to a PC. I understand that we can't use the applications on both machines at the same time, but could one of my colleagues use the CS6 versions at the same time on the PC?

    Hi Carol
A subscription to Creative Cloud gives you access to the CC version and the CS6 version of the software.  From the original question, it seemed to me that they were asking if they can share the subscription between 2 colleagues if one used the CC version and the other used the CS6 version.  That is not permitted as the subscription is licensed to one user.
If you have a Creative Cloud subscription and a perpetual license for CS6 then you can use them concurrently on 2 machines as they are separate licenses.
    Does this help clarify?
    Thanks

  • CS6 Bridge freeze using Homegroup network

I installed CS6 Photoshop two days ago and am having problems with Bridge.
I have a network using a Windows Homegroup between my desktop PC (ROB_PC), and a laptop (JUDE_PC) in another room, linked by my broadband router. When both machines are on I can use Bridge to access (read/copy/delete) files on the laptop by clicking on the folder in Bridge - see screen shot below (it's the folder called RAW). I can also, of course, access the laptop files in Windows. If the laptop is shut down and I try to use Bridge, I get a system freeze on Bridge and have to cancel Bridge and restart the laptop to get Bridge going again. It seems to want access to the laptop, even though I'm not looking at any folders on the laptop with Bridge, and the laptop is not switched on.
This morning I can't even load Bridge. Both computers were switched off overnight, but when I switched my PC on and left the laptop off Bridge will not load at all. This happens even when the last used folder in Bridge is NOT the remote laptop, so I can't understand why bridge is still looking for it when it starts. Does it need access to ALL folders on a normal network, even if I haven't requested to look at those folders? That doesn't seem right to me.
Do I need to disconnect from the network?

    Thanks for the reply, Curt.
I have made some progress, but still don't know what's going wrong.
    1. I can load CS5 Bridge OK and it works fine, even with the other PC (laptop) switched off. As soon as I try CS6 Bridge it freezes.
    2. I just unistalled all of CS5 (Photoshop and Bridge). So now I just have CS6. That made no difference - still freezing on Bridge when laptop swithed off. When laptop is on, Bridge works fine. I loaded Bridge with the laptop on then switched off the laptop while Bridge still loaded. As soon as the laptop went off, Bridge stopped. When I switched laptop back on Bridge resumed working - without me touching bridge (I just watched the PC screen). Bridge is definitely trying to look at the whole of my network, and if it finds the laptop off it freezes.
    3. Getting desperate... I went to my Broadband router (BT) and did a router restart with the switch on the side. That fixes it! Bridge runs OK with the laptop off. One might assume it's a router problem - but why was it working OK on CS5?
I suppose doing a router restart is an easy work-around, but it shouldn't happen. Anyone else have a problem in this area?

  • How to use GPU acceleration in final rendering process in AE CS6 updated?

    Hello guys!
Maybe my question is a frequent, but in fact I didn't get answer listing FAQs here.
So I have new NVIDIA Geforce card where CUDA supported. I enabled Ray-Traced 3d in "composition Settings" Advanced tab and also in fast preview settings. Everything OK and I can see no errors, but when I try to render one of video hive's projects, I see that CPU's  load is 95-100% but GPU's is only 0-2%. What is the secret? How to use GPU for project rendering?

The GPU is used very little by After Effects.
See this page for details of what the GPU is used for in After Effects:

  • Heroes of the Storm with bumblebee doesn't use NVidia Card.

    Hi,
So I have bumblebee installed it works perfectly.
    Problem:
executing "optirun wine HeroesSwitcher.exe" it doesn't use the Nvidia GPu.
It's probably caused by the launcher is starting the game in a separate process and exiting right after, witch in turn termintes it's parent process "optirun".
Is there any way that I can like run all the wine programs with bumblebee. or a way to execute the game with the Nvidia GPU.
    Sorry for the English.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WILL SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT THIS CONTACT ME???
CS6 Bridge does not show ANY of the adjustments I've made in previous versions of Camera Raw, and sometimes (intermittently) doesn't show adjustments made in CS6 Camera Raw.
I'm on a PC, I've uninstalled and reinstalled about 6 times. I feel so upset, I've spent literally HOURS going in circles on the Adobe website, trying to get help on the phone (I'll pay!!!) but there seems to be no way to contact anyone. I've posted this problem several times and no one answers.
If you don't know the answer, can you please tell me how to get tech help even if I have to pay for it??

Thanks, Omke. I tried updating, then applying all the same fixes to the updated version. No change.

  • CS6 Bridge Under Windows 8 Slow Response

When I use CS6 Bridge in Windows 8 (64 bit) it takes about 10 seconds to open a folder.  I select an image from the grid and press the spacebar to see it full size.  It takes another 10 seconds.  If I go to the Menu Bar and click on an item such as Window it takes about 10 seconds to get the drop down list, but if I then slide the cursor over to View and click on it, the menu appears right away and if I then click on Full Screen Preview, the  full size image appears immediately.  When I check the Widows Resource Monitor there is no unusual activity occurring during these 10 second intervals.  It is as if the program is in a wait state pending some event.
When I was running CS6 under Windows 7 (32 bit) everything worked fine.  When I run CS4 Bridge on Windows 8 (64 bit) it also runs fine.  I have purged the cache, and increaed cache size but to no avail.  My system has lots of processing speed, memory and disk space.
Does anyone know what I could do to get CS6 Bridge running correctly in my Windows 8 environment?   Is it possible that there is some kind of incompatibility with
Bridge, Windows 8 and the GPU?

I discussed this "solution" with Adobe back in July.  Here is their response.
"There really should be no reason that running in Vista compatability mode would change the behavior of the application. Vista and 7 are so similar at the fundamental level that there shouldn't be any advantage.   Really, this is likely pointing to a lack of OS updates being installed, or installed improperly. One person mentioned that a new user account fixed things. I have a feeling that would true of more folks who are willing to try it. I'll run this by my collegues though."
But if it works it is better than the alternative.    curt
Surprisingly the bit about trying it under a different or new user actually works here.  All the aggruvating 5 to 10 second long freezes disappear when used under a fresh account.
Ok, so how can that be parlayed into being able to use Bridge CS6 under my own account?
Does the fact that it works as expected under a new fresh account point to something particular that needs changing or adjustment under my regular account?
The Adobe staff person seems to think it is most likely a problem of  (lack of) updates or incorrectly installed updates, but that would not have any bearing if changing to a new account fixes the problem would it?
PS - How does one run in Vista compat mode?

    7. If you are using more than one video adapter, remove the additional cards.
Multiple video adapters can cause problems when OpenGL and Photoshop use the GPU. It's best to connect two (or more) monitors into one video adapter. If you have to use more than one video adapter, make sure that they are the same make and model. Also make sure that they both support the same versions of OpenGL and Shader Model. Otherwise, crashes and other problems can occur in Photoshop.
Note: Using two video adapters does not enhance Photoshop's performance.

  • Bridge doesn´t show preview of tif-images

    Hi,
I uses Bridge CS6 on a Mac with MacOS 10.9.2. Suddenly bridge doesn´t show previews of Tif-images. It´s also impossible to fill in any metadata. The program also says that the image isn´t tagged with any color profile. I don´t have these problems with jpegs, only with Tif-images. I even get previews on the RAW-images. Does anyone know what the problem can be?
    Ulf

I guess I have to try to reinstall the program.......
I'm 99,99 % sure that won't help solving your problem because to possible being effective you also should use the Adobe Clean tool to get rid of a lot of the hidden files that just stay put during a normal reinstall. But if you want to do something easier instead of reinstall, quit Bridge and go to the user library (by default hidden per OSX 7, use Finder, menu Go with option to reveal this library)
In the preferences folder is plist file for Bridge (com.adobe.bridge5.plist), drag this file to the trash. Then in same library go to the folder Caches / Adobe/ Bridge CS5 and inhere delete both plug in and folder called Cache. (this means recaching the previews and thumbs).
Then restart Bridge holding down option key and again choose 'reset prefs'. All previous deleted items will be replaced with new, fresh and empty ones and you have an almost like factory settings Bridge without the need of reinstall.
But I really suspect it comes down to the Tiff files so maybe also a reset of preferences in PS might be worth a try.

  • Why did my Filmstrip function in CS6 Bridge stop working?

I've been using Photoshop CS6  Bridge for about a year now.  Just recently the Filmstrip function stopped working.  I click on it and nothing happens.  Everything else works - Essentials, Metadata, and Output. It's been this way for a couple of weeks.  Rebooting doesn't fix it.  I've never had this happen with any of the versions of Bridge over the years.

Thanks Curt.  I just figured it out.  I right clicked on Filmstrip which gave me an option of Reset in the drop down menu.  I clicked on Reset and got my Filmstrip view back.

  • CS6 Bridge and Yosemite....  Bridges Crashes

I updated to Yosemite last night and everything runs fine except CS6 Bridge.  It crashes when a new folder is opened.   When I open the hard drive where the image folder is Bridge does great loading that content.  Then when I click on a new folder,  it will start its process,  5 or 6 images in it crashes...
Any thoughts on how to fix this?  Thank you in advance

    Hi Pixelagogo,
I generally am using Bridge-CC so I quit that and tested my Bridge-CS6 and I had no issue.
    Some things to try:
    1) The cache may be corrupted. Once you open your folder go to Bridge Preferences -> Cache -> Purge Cache.
    If that doesn't work than:
    2) Delete your Prefs. Do do this, quit Bridge (if it's already running), and double-click on the Bridge application while holding the Shift-Option-Control keys. You should get a message asking if you want to delete your Prefs, click Yes.
If that doesn't solve the problem,
    3) try deleting Bridge and reinstalling.
    Good luck,
    Gary

  • CS6 bridge not saving

When I do a quick edit in bridge CS6 it doesn't save in my folder. I ended up actually re-saving some images, so then I have 2. Not cool.

When I do a quick edit in bridge CS6 it doesn't save in my folder. I ended up actually re-saving some images,
Can you specify your workflow a bit more. You can't edit much in Bridge, stuff like rating, renaming and adding metadata and keywords is saved automatically to a file or sometimes as separate XMP file with same name depending on file type and method you use.
Basically Bridge is a file browser and interacts between apps like a real Bridge.
