CS6 Bridge Previews are Soft

The previews and thumbnails in Bridge are soft (previews softer), so I chave to open up an image to decide whether to keep it or trash it based upon sharpness.
Somebody please help!!!

Someone else will need to answer whether the images should always look the same as what you see Photoshop in a practical sense - I don't use Bridge regularly.  I just know a few of its options.
Regarding getting a filmstrip on the right...  I fooled with Bridge just now for about 30 seconds...  Try selecting the Preview workspace up at the top, then moving the divider to the right and swapping the positions of the tabs.  There may be another way, but this works:

  • Nikon D800 "and" CS6 Bridge Preview

Mac Pro, 10.7.5, Adobe CS6 suite recently updated. I am encountering problem of viewing images from Nikon D800 in Bridge Preview. The image thumbnails are displayed in Content, and able to open images in Camera Raw and Photoshop. What do I need to do to view images in Preview once selected from Content? -Rob

Thanks for the tip. However the problem "corrected" itself. I think after updating, Bridge had to reset/refresh. I now see any selected images from Content in the Preview panel/window. The problem was that if clicked on image in Content, I wouldn't see anything in Preview. Thanks for that purging tip. That might come in handy.

  • PC and OS switch, now Bridge previews are blurry

Yesterday I (well, my son--not me!) moved my Photoshop CS4, Bridge, ACR, LR2 to a new PC. Operating system changed from XP to Windows7.
Previews are blurry; I cleared cache, in Preferences, I've got Monitor Size Previews selected, Software Rendering Deselected (Selecting it made no difference). Video Card is GeForceGTX 285.
    Thanks!

Some individual jpg's are blurry. If I right click and delete cache for  that individual image, I get the crisp preview. What gives? I thought  that clearing the cache meant clearing all of the cache? I can live with  this.   All cache is not created equal.
There is the central cache which is the main cache and you can purge it in the cache window.  If you have cache exported to folders that cache is not purged.  To purge both cache you need to go to Tools/cache/purge cache for xxx folder.
If you get no preview for CR2  files you probably have either no Camera Raw (ACR), have more than  one ACR or have ACR in wrong folder.
Open PS and in Help click on about plug-ins and camera raw.   Will tell you what version you have.  Should be 5.x for CS4.

  • Lightroom 3 Large previews are soft...

Last Year I posted on this forum how on my Mac with Lightroom 3 I was getting soft previews of photo's, well here we are a year later and I still cant use lightroom in my workflow because of this soft preview issue, It's pissing me off to no end.
When viewing my 5D mkII raw files...and other camera model raw files, in the Library & Develop modules, the large preview image in both modules gives a slightly blurry rendering of the photo, if I zoom to 100% I can see the file's actuall sharpness, but I need to be able to run through thousands of files from a shoot and quickly pick out the sharp images from the misfocused one's, which is impossible with this issue.
So now a year later I'm inquiring again to you on this forum and Adobe technicians to help me resolve this issue once and for all.
P.S. For the record, this issue has been here from the day I installed LR3.
My hardware: 2009 Mac Pro with 12GB of Ram, Eizo CE240W 24" Display at 1920X1200.
From what I gather this is a known issue, but reading the below link/posts, I've not found a solution… http://forums.adobe.com/message/3009930#3009930
Thanks, looking forward to your thoughts.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue in LR3, this was not happening in previous version of LR.
When I import picture into LR, I also build "standart previews", which leads to slight soft preview when reviewing picture in the library module (going to the develop module does not help here). Zooming to 100%, waiting for the full rendering then zooming back solve the issue for the current photo. This seems to happen on random pictures since even if I worked on the picture, viewed it at 100% in a previous Lightroom session, it just render it blurry.
Here is a sample showing the issue, the first link show a screenshot just before I zoom at 100%, the second link, just after:
    Screen shot before zoom
    Screen shot after zoom
It also happen with more modest picture size on the screen (when all panels are shown).
So, it seems like there is a bug somewhere in LR preview rendering.
    Cheers,
    Philippe.
Edit: open links in new browser tab or windows: the image viewer of the Adobe forums show only a reduced version of the screenshots behind the previous links.

  • Why are my Bridge previews so tiny?

Can anyone tell me why my Bridge previews are so tiny for vectors? My preview won't go any larger than a thumbnail size. When I use the zoom tool over the preview, the magnified preview box is so pixelated I can't even make anything out. I am using Adobe Bridge CS4 on Windows 7 (64 bit). All Bridge settings are currently default. The issue is only with vector images - raster images scale to full size without the pixelation. I have already tried uninstalling my adobe products and reinstalling, but it didn't change anything.
I attached a full resolution thumbnail (on a 1440x900 screen) in case anyone wants to see exactly what I'm talking about. The preview pane on the far left is as large as the image will scale. The images are default illustrator sample files, and I've seen the same images scaled in bridge at full size in tutorial videos which didn't seem to require any special configuration to make work.

What would defragmenting the TDMS file afterwards mean for the file size?

  • CS3 Bridge Preview Soft

Please see Case No: 172571700 for details, however, I would love to see your developers come up with an option in preferences that would allow one to choose to see larger RAW files as sharp as they really are. Right now when I load up images from my Canon 1Ds Mark II or Canon !1D Mark III, the images in the preview pane are soft and mushy even though they are sharp. The problem is that I have to shoot sometimes in order of 1,500 images a day for certain assignments, and I can't tell if my images are in focus or not without opening them up in ACR. That takes too much time. In Bridge CS2 I never had that problem. I understand that you generate the image from the preview image in the RAW file, but even if I convert to DNG with High Res preview, the good images still look soft and mushy.
Take a look at your forum on Bridge and you will see that I am not the only one that wants a preview pane that works. I will take the hit in speed. I am sure is will be faster than opening up every image in ACR.
    Thanks,
    Daniel Root

Adding my voice to the chorus... I use a Canon 5D (among other cameras) and the previews in Bridge look little like what I see when I open the files in ACR or as converted TIFFs in PS CS3. Purging the caches (globally, and then often again for the individual folder) is an unnecessary manual step and there should be an option to build the preview directly from the RAW file (vs. the embedded JPEG as it appears to do now).
Same goes for the magnified 'loupe' view in Bridge -- it's not much use as is in terms of checking for sharpness, it looks like it's just magnifying the JPEG preview (and beyond 100% as well, it would appear), so what you see are, mostly, soft pixels resulting from the bicubic smoother upscaling and color blocks from JPEG artifacting.
    Thanks,

  • Previews in Bridge CS5 are not sharp

The preview panel images in Bridge CS5 are not sharp (almost blurry). Also when I select a thumb and view it using the space bar method (from within the Bridge) the image doesn't appear sharp. Anybody have an idea why? They look fine in Bridge CS4. I've been looking for a preference setting to no avail. Doesn't matter if it's RAW or JPG (same results).
When I select an image and view it using the space bar method (while in the finder) it looks sharp/normal.
    Thanks.

[I've replied to the wrong thread, but this is still relevant]
The soft previews also affect raw images which have been cropped within Camera Raw. The 100% preview within Bridge looks soft compared to when editing in Camera Raw.
Raw images which haven't been cropped look sharp at 100% magnification, but not fit-to-screen.
The raw files I'm dealing with are CR2, not DNG. However, I converted one to DNG and tried the full size jpeg preview option, but it looks the same. Even if it did work, it would mean converting all CR2 files to DNG, which is a lot of extra work to get round this one problem.
Here's what I'm seeing. They are both viewed at 100%. The first file shows a screen capture of the Bridge preview, the second within Camera Raw. Again, the raw files are cropped images, which seems to cause this 100% preview problem.

  • After processing in CS6 saved jpegs are washed out in when viewing in bridge - Why?

after processing in CS6 saved jpegs are washed out in when viewing in bridge - Why?

I have been trying to figure out if I made any accidental changes in Photoshop. So far I haven't found anything. That might simply mean that I don't know all of the places to look. I have called Adobe and been on the support websites and haven't gotten a clear answer. I save as a JPEG with an embedded color file sRGB. Any suggestions on where else to look for accidental changes?
Everyone seems to agree that iPhoto doesn't work well with Adobe and should be avoided in the workflow. Truly, I had no idea! I just like the simplicity. The Mac store never mentioned problems between the two but did offer to help me purchase Aperture. I will use Bridge from now on to view the images and manage folders.
    Thanks for your message!

  • My thumbnail previews are all horizontal in bridge

All of my thumbnail previews are horizontal in bridge - this is a new problem.  I'm using CS5.  Previously they were previewing just fine.  If I go through each folder and reapply my metadata, the previews correct themselves, but I shouldn't have to do this every time I use bridge.  I've searched through preferences and can't find a solution.  Any ideas?

I don't really know anything about cache management in Bridge.
Let it be some comfort to you that almost everybody (including me) can say the same...
Maybe I'm just using it much more than I used to.
That should not matter but unfortunately it seems related. Compared to Tai Lao I seem to have very clean work because I don't need to wash my hands that often but it is a fact that Cache is still not easy to manage.
Luckily each new version seems to handle cache in a better way but I have to admit that every now and then I also start with a fresh empty cache folder to avoid problems. In CS3 this was about every 4 to 6 weeks but in CS5 I only do it a few times a year depending on the size the cache file has grown.
I use cache a lot and mostly the size of my cache file is 25 GB +. Every now and then I use Compact Cache. Just tried it again and the current 43 GB size was reduced to 29 GB but that is still a lot of space. Hence some 'spring cleaning' every now and then.

  • Adobe CS6 Bridge no longer will preview .tif files.  Has anyone seen this and know how to correct?

Adobe CS6 Bridge no longer will preview .tif files.  Has anyone seen this and know how to correct?

No problems here viewing TIFF files in Bridge. Try restoring the Bridge preferences. IMMEDIATELY after launching Bridge hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Cmd+Option+Shift (Mac). You'll get an option to restore preferences.

  • Edits made in earlier Camera Raws are not displaying in CS6 Bridge for PC

All the painstaking adjustments and croppings I've made over the years to my raw files in earlier versions of Camera Raw do not show up in CS6. It's as though I never did any adjustments.
But if I open the files in CS6 Camera Raw and make a tiny tweak adjustment for all files (such as +1 in saturation), then the entire set of previous adjustments DOES show up in CS6 Bridge.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop CS6 a whole bunch of times and this never corrects!
Is there any fix for this? Or did I just get a BAD copy of Photoshop CS6 and am stuck, since there doesn't seem to be ANY support from Adobe for this.
I am subscribed to CC and this problem does not happen in CC Bridge, but I want to maintain CS6 because I don’t trust Adobe to keep the CC price at something I can afford.
PLEASE can someone offer a suggestion???

You have thumbnails set to embedded.  They will not show edits unless you opt for some version of HQ thumbnails, but these take up a lot more room and and slower to build.  Your choice.

    Hello,
Although not as simple as it should be you can use a program like "Grab" to take a screenshot of the frame in the preview window in iMovie.

  • CS6 Bridge Under Windows 8 Slow Response

When I use CS6 Bridge in Windows 8 (64 bit) it takes about 10 seconds to open a folder.  I select an image from the grid and press the spacebar to see it full size.  It takes another 10 seconds.  If I go to the Menu Bar and click on an item such as Window it takes about 10 seconds to get the drop down list, but if I then slide the cursor over to View and click on it, the menu appears right away and if I then click on Full Screen Preview, the  full size image appears immediately.  When I check the Widows Resource Monitor there is no unusual activity occurring during these 10 second intervals.  It is as if the program is in a wait state pending some event.
When I was running CS6 under Windows 7 (32 bit) everything worked fine.  When I run CS4 Bridge on Windows 8 (64 bit) it also runs fine.  I have purged the cache, and increaed cache size but to no avail.  My system has lots of processing speed, memory and disk space.
Does anyone know what I could do to get CS6 Bridge running correctly in my Windows 8 environment?   Is it possible that there is some kind of incompatibility with
Bridge, Windows 8 and the GPU?

Vista and 7 are so similar at the fundamental level that there shouldn't be any advantage.   Really, this is likely pointing to a lack of OS updates being installed, or installed improperly. One person mentioned that a new user account fixed things. I have a feeling that would true of more folks who are willing to try it. I'll run this by my collegues though."
But if it works it is better than the alternative.    curt
Surprisingly the bit about trying it under a different or new user actually works here.  All the aggruvating 5 to 10 second long freezes disappear when used under a fresh account.
Ok, so how can that be parlayed into being able to use Bridge CS6 under my own account?
Does the fact that it works as expected under a new fresh account point to something particular that needs changing or adjustment under my regular account?
The Adobe staff person seems to think it is most likely a problem of  (lack of) updates or incorrectly installed updates, but that would not have any bearing if changing to a new account fixes the problem would it?
PS - How does one run in Vista compat mode?

  • CS6 Bridge por resolution

I just installed Photoshop CS6. Images that I preview in CS6 bridge using space bar or in filmstrip view are very fuzzy when compared to the same setup in Bridge CS5. Any suggestions?

Purging the cash and having Bridge regenerate previews has fixed the problem. Thanks

Might you have you CS6 Options for thumbnail quality and preview generation set to Prefer Embedded?  Check your Bridge "Options for thumbnail quality and preview generation" and compare what you have set in CS6 with your CS5 settings.
