CS6 Bridge Under Windows 8 Slow Response

When I use CS6 Bridge in Windows 8 (64 bit) it takes about 10 seconds to open a folder.  I select an image from the grid and press the spacebar to see it full size.  It takes another 10 seconds.  If I go to the Menu Bar and click on an item such as Window it takes about 10 seconds to get the drop down list, but if I then slide the cursor over to View and click on it, the menu appears right away and if I then click on Full Screen Preview, the  full size image appears immediately.  When I check the Widows Resource Monitor there is no unusual activity occurring during these 10 second intervals.  It is as if the program is in a wait state pending some event.
When I was running CS6 under Windows 7 (32 bit) everything worked fine.  When I run CS4 Bridge on Windows 8 (64 bit) it also runs fine.  I have purged the cache, and increaed cache size but to no avail.  My system has lots of processing speed, memory and disk space.
Does anyone know what I could do to get CS6 Bridge running correctly in my Windows 8 environment?   Is it possible that there is some kind of incompatibility with
Bridge, Windows 8 and the GPU?

I discussed this "solution" with Adobe back in July.  Here is their response.
"There really should be no reason that running in Vista compatability mode would change the behavior of the application. Vista and 7 are so similar at the fundamental level that there shouldn't be any advantage.   Really, this is likely pointing to a lack of OS updates being installed, or installed improperly. One person mentioned that a new user account fixed things. I have a feeling that would true of more folks who are willing to try it. I'll run this by my collegues though."
But if it works it is better than the alternative.    curt
Surprisingly the bit about trying it under a different or new user actually works here.  All the aggruvating 5 to 10 second long freezes disappear when used under a fresh account.
Ok, so how can that be parlayed into being able to use Bridge CS6 under my own account?
Does the fact that it works as expected under a new fresh account point to something particular that needs changing or adjustment under my regular account?
The Adobe staff person seems to think it is most likely a problem of  (lack of) updates or incorrectly installed updates, but that would not have any bearing if changing to a new account fixes the problem would it?
PS - How does one run in Vista compat mode?

  • After reinstalling Photoshop CS6 Bridge is very slow. It takes 15 sec to respond to a mouse click. Photoshop is OK.

I had to reinstall Photoshop CS6 after rebuilding my PC. Now Bridge takes 15 sec to respond to a mouse click. Photoshop is fine. I have installed all updates.
    Any thoughts?

Slow as compared to what?  Have you seen better performance with older versions of Photoshop?
    >after app launched, it takes nearly 5 seconds to be able to browse through menus
Takes my system longer than that to start Photoshop CS5, and while my computer isn't a top-of-the-line workstation today (it was a few years ago), it's no slouch.  Photoshop has never been a fast application to start up.

  • MXI-3 to PXI bridge under Windows XP problems

    Hi,
I have installed a MXI-3 card in my PC's PCI bus, and have it connected to a
8330 MXI3 card in a PXI1000B crate. Also in this crate are various I/O cards
    (6533, 6713, GPIB etc).
When I booted the XP machine first time, it detected new hardware and wanted
to install drivers, but it couldn't find them.
I ended up ignoring the requestes and installing the MXI-3 optimization
software - this worked fine, but the PCI device installation wizards
persisted at every boot-up, and still unable to find any drivers to satisfy
    itself.
I then installed Labview 6i with MAX 2.0.3.6. MAX detects my crate and
devices fine. Additionally, when I booted up the installation wizards were
now able to find device drivers for my 6533 etc. cards
Now when I boot up, I get no new hardware found, and no wizards pop up.
    Phew.
    BUT.....
If I look in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager I see two
items under "other Hardware" with yellow question marks next to them.
These are: "other PCI bridge device"
    and "PCI Simple Communications controller".
Both these failed to install drivers using the wizard. They have the
details "PCI slot 2, PCI bus2 device 9 function 0" and "PCI slot 2, PCI bus2
    device 12 function 0" respectively.
I assume these devices are in my PXI crate?
    I have a 8422 GPIB card in PXI slot 5, and a MXI2 8320 card in slot 8. Could
these be the problem? Should I be worried about them, or just ignore them? -
I know the GPIB card works fine through labview.
    Thanks in advance,
    Joe

It sounds like your installation procedure varied from what we normally recommend, but we should be able to fix your system up. Typically, you should install all drivers on your system before linking the PXI chassis and cards up to your PC. In your case, this means installing NI-DAQ, NI-488.2, and NI-VXI before linking the chassis up.
I would recommend removing your PXI-GPIB card and PXI-MXI-2 card from chassis, and then booting your chassis and PC. Check in Device Manager to see if there are any unknown devices. If these are gone, we have found the correct devices with problems. Install NI-488.2 and NI-VXI, then shut down, install your cards, and boot back up. The two cards should detect properly.

  • Bridge CC *much slower* than CS6 - anyone else?

We've been using bridge since CS5 as part of our workflow, and have upgraded computers along the way to support the demands of larger file sizes (we now use D800s with 36Mpix files) and software upgrades.
A typical workflow on a top-end Retina MacBook Pro or top-end iMac includes loading full screan previews in Bridge, culling, and opening to ACR and then Photoshop for post-production with a large amount of PS being batch operations. Going from CS5 to CS6 "felt" faster doing the same things we did in each. Upgrading from D700 cameras to D800 camera "felt" slower until we upgraded computers. Now going from CS6 to CC "feels" slower. Significantly. So much so I ran a test on the Retina MBP (latest OS, 2.6GHz quad processor, SSD, etc)
Open & Process Full Screen Previews for 100 NEF Files
    CS6: 4 min 15 sec
    CC: 5 min 22 sec
Run ACR Adjustments on 100 NEF files as Batch
    CS6: 2 min 15 sec
    CC: 2 min 51 sec
Run Batch on 100 NEF files with 174-Step Action
    CS6: 6 min 13 sec
    CC: 12 min 44 sec
To ensure it wasn't just the Retina MBP, I did a similar range of tests on the iMac (latest OS, 3.4GHz quad processor, SSD, etc), and the approximate ratio of slow-down in within the range of standard deviation.
Loading is confirmed to both "feel" slower as well as actually be slower. So, too, is running batches. A lot slower. We're downgrading back to CS6 for now since this is unacceptable. However, the questions remains - is anyone else seeing these slowdowns?

I have no data but it appears that every version of PS needs more horsepower and this is the case for Adobe Camera Raw as well.  Just more data to process.  And this is not all of Adobe's making as every camera that comes out the manufacturer develops a new camera raw that is "better" as it has more options.

  • Extremely Slow Response when attempting to display files on Windows Server

I have set up File Sharing on my MacBook Pro using SMB and defined the folders that are available to be shared. When I look at the Network Neighbourhood in Windows Explorer the Macbook appears listed with all the other PCs on the network. When I try to open the Macbook in Explorer it takes a very long time to open (about 2 minutes or so) and shows me the list of folders. When I try to open a folder the exact same thing happens - it opens after a couple of minutes, this continues for every folder that I try to open. I thought it might be that Explorer needed to "catalog" the files in the folders but the same thing happens each time - if I close the connection and try again it takes the same amount of time. What is very strange is that if I connect to the Windows Server from the Mac opening and looking at shared folders/files is instantaneous so clearly this is not a network problem. If I use the Win2K3 server to look at other computers/files the result is the same - instantaneous access, so it has nothing to do with the Win2K3 server - clearly the problem is with the MacBook serving up the file information to the Win2K3 server. I have tried with AFP on and off and the result is the same. The user name/pwd is the same on both the Win2K3 and the Macbook - and I have tried with a different username on the Win2K3 - no difference. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Yes they are on the same workgroup, on ethernet, plugged into the same switch. The Mac can read and copy files of the Win2K3 server with no problem. The problem is clearly at the Mac end as the Win2K3 server can view files on any machine on the network without the slow response, the Mac can view files on the Win2K3 server without the slow response, it is only when the Win2K3 server tries to view files on the Mac.

First, I hadto load the most recent version of  the Adobe Application Manager.  Then I could see all of the CS6 Updates including the most recent Camera Raw update.
I had to run one update at a time for it to work correctly.
But now I'm cooking with gas.

  • Slow wireless under windows XP bootcamp! help!

    Hello everyone,
I bought my first Mac (MacBook Pro) less than a month ago.
I have a problem with my wireless connection under Windows XP (Bootcamp 2.1).
It works, but is painfully slow (500 kbps in download, 100 kbps in upload according to speakeasy test). Instead, wireless works perfectly fine in Leopard (more than 10X faster).
My router is a Netgear WGR613VAL and other Windows computers have no problems with it.
My wired connections are OK. I suppose it is a driver problem?
I have read the forums and I have tried a couple of things, like installing the Broadcom drivers BCMREL_4_100_15_5WHQL and using Tweak Test + Dr TCP, without any improvement.
I'll be grateful for any suggestion.
Which is the best way to contact Apple about this issue? Anyone did it? Would it be useful?
    Thanks

You are right in assuming it is a driver problem. Open the Device Manage and Right Click the hardware (network / wireless adapter) to see the date of the driver. Apple's updated drivers should in theory have the latest:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/bootcampupdate21 forwindowsxp.html
Further bottlenecks to your connection speed would include software firewalls, antivirus, adware or viruses running in the background. I think you have already established the hardware is not an issue. When I had Tiger and BC Beta my Windows connection was slower than OS X. I upgraded to Leopard and the Airport Extreme card kicked in in XP no problem. XP cannot be the issue. Try the WIndows wireless out on any other wireless signals (friends, workplace, library). If it works great elsewhere you might want to work with your Netgear install disk a little or even switch to Airport Express.

I installed a configurator in CS6 Extension manager whch went fine. However in CS6 under  Window > extensions the configurator does not show up

    Hi 1432690,
Which configurator did you install? Is it a ZXP or MXP file? Which product( such as Photoshop, InDesign, ... ) does this configurator support? Where can we download this configurator? Is there any error during installation? In order to list this extension in Extension Manager, you have to select the correct product in the left  panel of Extension Manager first. Thanks.

  • Very slow performance of LabVIEW 6.1 under Windows XP

I am using LabVIEW 6.1 under Windows XP. I found that sometimes it takes a long time for the operating system to load LabVIEW. Does anybody have the same experience?

I have the same configuration on a PC and a laptop and I haven't had any problems. I also have >256MB RAM on both machines.
My guess is that you have more than the LabVIEW recommended 64MB RAM on your machine but RAM is really the only thing that comes to mind for me. If you have a bunch of other applications running then it could take a while for LabVIEW to load to memory.
    Just a thought.

Bridge loads fine and looks okay UNTIL i open a file. The second i click Open, bridge crashes.
Bridge also crashes if i double click a folder which has a photo in it.  Never fails to crash. The error is typical nonsense:

Curt Y advised the previous member to open View Event Logs, and look for errors/warnings. Specifically in Applications an area called Faulting Module. Well I can't find anything called "fault". Clicking the down arrow on each of them brings up sub areas, none called fault.
