CS6 Brush profile problem

I dont know if this is an issue or my in-experience...
I am trying to use the brush in illustrator cs6 with a profile (the first one so it tapers at both ends, imitating the pressure sensitivity). However it wont work. I select it and it has no effect on the standard 5pt round or any custom brush I use.
Also, when I change the brush to say, the charcoal or dotted line, it DOES work. And then if i try to switch back to  basic line, i choose it, draw a line, and it auto switches back to what I was using. But if i go from ex: charcoal and draw a line, then switch to dotted line, it works. The problem seems to be with the regular one.
Any ideas?????

I think in order to get that variable width like effect for Calligraphic brushes, you'll have to use Wacom tablet-pen and make the size dependent on Pressure (from Calligraphic brush's options dialog). You may also try out the roundness and angle parameters from the brush options dialog and see if that works.
If you want to use the width profile, you'll have to use an Art brush, say, something like a Pencil-Thin from the Charcoal brushes available in libraries.

  • Why is the brush tool in Illustrator CC inferior to the brush tool in CS6? It has less control of fidelity and smoothness. It is terrible - and I'm an illustrator. Can I use the CS6 brush engin in CC?

    I loved the brush tool in CS6 Illustrator- by turning fidelity to the lowest setting, and smoothness down to zero, pumping up pressure sensitivity, it accurately reproduced the fine shapes of a drawn stroke. I'm an illustrator, so I don't want artificially smoothed curves, I want the line I drew.
    This works really well with my Wacom Cintiq tablet... but now CC has removed this level of customisation for the brush tool. WHY? The program is called Illustrator, and as an illustrator, I can tell you having an accurate and finely adjustable brush engine to illustrate with is very important to me and to lots of other people who can draw, and draw for a living.
    Now you get this dumbed down control panel when you double click on the brush tool icon- just one slider, with only 4 steps from 'accurate' (not very) to 'smooth' (almost indistiguishable from 'accurate')... it is like I have contracted a nerve disease - I draw a line, and it forms into something quite different to the path my pen took. WHY? Can I get rid of this rubbish engine? Trying the blob brush - what is the point of this brush? It is just like the old brush, except for a cursor that shows the largest size for pressure sensitivity... and it has the same crude 4 step smooth/accurate adjuster, that doesn't change the line much at all. I have the latest driver in my Cintiq, so I don't think that is the issue, and CS6 works better than CC.
    I am very disappointed, Adobe. Do I have to go back to CS6 for all my Illustration work? Please improve the CC brush tool controls.
    I am still reeling from Adobe's quiet removal of a whole tool: Inverse Kinematics/Bone tool from Flash CC JUST when I was finally using it to animate, but that's another story.
    Honestly, having use them for a while, Photoshop,
    Illlustrator, InDesign and Flash CC are, as far as I can tell, no step up at all from CS6, except that you have to pay for them forever.

    More on this, now becoming known as the CC pencil tool fiasco, on these fora:

    If you are affected by the lower accuracy controls for CC's brush or pencil tools, use this Bug report/Feature request form to let the folks at Adobe know- they are actually hopefully going to fix this.......
    thanks to Daniel for setting this up:
    hey all, if you are going to file a bug report (as per Neeraj's suggestion), i've made up a draft to make the process easier.  feel free to adjust it as much as you want, obviously; trying to equip us busy folk.
    Obviously customer service & product development are two different departments, so if you're bummin out on the new functionality, submit a bug report!

    Concise problem statement:
    I was told to by Neeraj N(staff) to report this issue based on this link : (http://forums.adobe.com/message/6065706).
    The Pencil / Brush tools have lost essential functionality with the addition of the new accurate / smooth adjustment preset. Users are no longer able to specify high-accuracy pen mapping, as the finest accuracy setting is now set to 2.5px (legacy versions allowed accuracy to .5px).
    I would think adding additional slider nodes to allow more accurate mapping (while still using the accurate / smooth preset) allow for a minimal change in programming with a maximum return for power users.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. open illustrator
    2. use either pencil or brush tool.
    3. draw erratic and high detail shapes
    Results: shapes are smoothed to 2.5px smoothness, even when the accurate / smooth adjustment preset is set to full accuracy.
    Expected results: shapes have minimal / no smoothing to maintain the integrity of the artwork.
    Thank you for your consideration.

    PHOTOSHOP CS6 GRANDEZZA PENNELLO
    avete qualche soluzione?

    who is dear to me solve my problem?
    usually my quick way to reduce or enlarge the diameter of the brush (for example, if I am acting on a layer mask) is ctrl + alt and move the mouse to the left / right. in other cases, act directly on the board brush.
    as you will see from the photo is the range of the exponential scale of the brushes in photoshop CS6 and so it is unmanageable. working with large photos interests me especially the last part, and then I would like the scale from 0 to 5000 px grow evenly (for example there is now a 84 px there were 2500 px).
    you have any solution?

  • Color profile problem/question.

    These two exports of the same file were taken on my spouse's D300s, and are good examples of a profile problem I cannot seem to solve.  This is the identical problem I also experience on the Nikon D700 and D3.  The following was exported with the "Camera Standard" profile, and notice the yellow sun reflection on the door panels:
    The following was exported with a xrite generated lightroom profile. Notice the better overall contrast, but also the horrendous unnatural yellow on the same door:
    This difference causes all sorts of distortion in natural animal hair that contains any red-orange.  I use these doors  because they are such a stark example.  Any attempts to correct with the WB will usually result in too much blue elsewhere.  Also I have created many test profiles under many light conditions (both manually and from LR), and they all cause this problem in all three cameras.  This is not a matter of one bad cameral, or one erroneously created profile.
    I have two questions:  Does this example show up well enough to see what I am talking about?   If so, can anyone speculate as to the problem or solution?  Even guesses would be appreciated since I am out of my own, and not expert in this sort of thing.   Thanks!

    George, thank you for this information. I have a couple of things for you to try and another question. The ColorChecker Passport color patches are small, so I would suggest trying to reshoot a calibration image with the ColorChecker Passport in the center and filling at least 1/3 of the picture width. In the image you provided the ColorChecker Passport is about 1/8 the image width and far left of center. I know, I know, it should not matter, but give it a try. This is what I'm doing to create camera profiles for all three of my camera bodies (Canon 300D, 600D, 5D MKII), and I have not had a single problem with "color matching" using this procedure AND what I will describe next.
    Concerning white balance procedure you say:
    Using the grey card of the same product placed just outside the subject crop.
    I assume you are referring to the large 60% reflectance white balance card on one side of the ColorChecker Passport, but you do not mention how you set white balance. I suggest using the LR white balance eyedropper tool with the smaller 80% reflectance gray scale patch on the ColorChecker Classic target side. This is the 2nd patch from the left bottom in your picture right next to the brightest 90% white patch. Two reasons for doing this! A higher reflectance patch reduces the influence of camera noise in the image with the LR 5 x 5 pixels eyedropper tool. Here's a LR forum post with a heated discussion on these issues (or lack thereof): http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854734?tstart=60 The second purely empirical reason is the "Classic" target side provides me with more accurate white balance than using the larger 60% card. Perhaps this is a defect with my ColorChecker Passport target, but I don't know.
    When setting white balance with the LR eyedropper tool I suggest taking at least five (5) samples of the 80% patch. I use the center, TL, TR, BR and BL corner areas of the patch. Do not use any reading that has a large variation from the others. Please remember that the eyedropper tool is sampling a very small 5 x 5 (25 pixels) area, and image noise or a target paint defect can give you a bogus reading. Write down the temp and tint for each of the five (5) readings, add them, and divide by five to get the "average" white balance temp and tint. Enter the temp and tint values manually into the white balance tool. I create a user preset for each profile which contains only the ColorChecker created camera profile and manually adjusted white balance settings.
    I would also suggest you check the readings of all six (6) grayscale patches for neutrality (R=G=B) using your new camera profile and white balance settings. I have found in some cases using the 65% reflectance patch (3rd patch in) provides the most neutral “overall” white balance setting for the six (6) patches. This is despite the fact it contains more camera noise than the 80% patch next to it. Again, this observation is purely empirical – I am not writing a scientific thesis! It works for me and hopefully it will get you closer to what you want.
    One thing I am going to do tomorrow is borrow a friends color checker to rule out the possibility mine is defective. It doesn't look defective, but the problem is so consistent.
    This is a very good idea! Having worked in a manufacturing environment for over 45 years, trust me when I tell you defective product from even the largest company ends up in the consumer’s hands. Please let us know what you find.

  • Constant IP Profile Problems

    Good Morning Everyone,
    I seem to have constant IP Profile problems where I have to keep contacting the Broadband Helpdesk to get the IP Reset every few weeks.  It seems to do it if the weather is bad (like over the past couple of days) or if i watch videos streamed from  YouTube.  I told the operator this the last time i called, but it was just dismissed and they just reset the profile.
    Last night everything seemed so slow, so i ran a speedtest and yep the profile has dropped again and has been set to 2mbps.  I connect at 8mbps and normally my download speed is around the 7.30mbps mark.  What could be causing this?

  • Spot healing brush alignment problem

    Using Photoshop CS4 (11.0) on a Mac with 10.5.6. Sometimes the spot healing brush works as expected. However, after working for a while, the alignment seems to be off--I hover the cursor over the spot I want to retouch, but when I click the mouse the area retouched is a bit (1/4" or so) below the spot healing brush cursor. If I quite and restart Pshop the problem goes away. This is with the spot healing brush--not the one where you need to select where to clone from. Is something wrong, or is there a new feature I don't know about that's causing this? I've used the spot healing brush quite a bit with CS3.
    If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate hearing them. This is getting frustrating.

    I think you are talking about a different issue here. This problem is not specific to the spot healing brush.
    @ OP: The brush alignment problem is very real and I have it frequently when working with larger files (approximately >500MB in memory). I have two macs, a macbook (GMA X3100) and a mac pro (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT). So two completely different hardware arrangements that have the exact same problem.This is clearly not a problem with graphics cards.
    Drawing with any tool like: brush (any brush - dodge/burn, blur, eraser etc.), lasso (any lasso), line, crop tool etc. will result in a misalignment of about 0,5 cm directly downward. However, clicking on menus and dialogue boxes works as expected. Switching off OpenGL features in PS WILL NOT PREVENT THE PROBLEM (if I shout, maybe Adobe will hear...). The same problem appears whether I'm using a Wacom tablet or a mouse. It even appears when the Wacom driver is uninstalled.
    So, if Adobe is not acknowledging the problem it's safe to assume it will be featured in CS5 as well.
    @ Jim: Sorry, I would have posted in the other thread but your link does not work anymore.

  • Color profile problem after installing CS4

    OK.
    First, let me post these side-by-side comparisons:
    As you can see in Image 1 (the "before," left-side photo in each comparison), the colors and overall appearance are distorted. I've read things about gamma but it's all confusing to me. This is surely a color profile problem, right? The transition among pixels that involve colors of yellow and gray is rocky, grainy, and the flat out color is just wrong. Now this color problem affects pictures when opened in both Photoshop 7.0 and the standard Windows Photo Viewer. Meaning, whenever I open pictures in both PS 7.0 and Windows Photo Viewer (my default viewer), this color problem totally messes up certain photos and really damages my ability to edit. I'm an avid photo editor and it's imperative I have proper color display so that I can accurately edit. Keep in mind that certain pictures do not take on this error. When a photo is generally brighter, the distortion is basically invisible. It's photos that are dark or have dark portions in them that display the distortion.
    *Note: I took these before-and-after pictures with my camera, because screencapping would not work, since you all don't have the same color profile issue on your computer. That's the only way I can show you!
    HOWEVER, when I open photos in another standard Windows application, "Microsoft Office Picture Manager," the color problem is magically erradicated altogether. It shows photos as I've been seeing them all along, until I installed CS4 about two weeks ago. Before installing CS4, everything was fine and I had been using Photoshop 7 for years and have never had a problem. I'm guessing CS4 messed something up. It had to have. Just FYI, I uninstalled CS4, hoping it would reverse the problem. But still, the color issue persists in PS 7 and in my regular Windows Photo Viewer.
    Since images display their true form in Windows Office Picture Manager, I don't think I need to calibrate my screen. Or do I? I've read things about it, and to some people, it's not necessary. Right? Okay. I really hope someone can give some advice! Thank you!
    P.S. Here's the original photo. On my screen, it looks distorted when opened in photoshop or opened w/the viewer. However, here on Firefox, it's fine.

    You should try to familiarize yourself with the concepts of color management.
    It's kind of too in-depth a subject to walk you through from a cold start here...  There are a lot of good resources out there to help you get started.  For example, in just a few seconds Google turned up this:
    http://www.adobepress.com/articles/article.asp?p=1315593
    The one thing to remember is this:  There is NO quick solution, easy set of defaults, or direct answer to making your setup do what you want without your having to understand color management.
    People may tell you to calibrate your monitors, or use a particular color profile as a default, or whatever, and they may have good, solid reasons for telling you those things, but if you don't attempt to get your mind around color management it will always seem as though something isn't working right, or is simply magic, which will be frustrating to you.
    Here are some basic questions to ponder:
    What image color profile is your image carrying?
    Is your monitor a wide-gamut display and do you have a color profile set up for it?  What kind of monitor is it?
    What version of Windows are you running?
    Do you know the difference between a color-managed app and one that is not color-managed?
    Which of the apps you're using/showing above are color-managed?
    What are your settings in Edit - Color Settings?
    Take some time and do some research, get your head around the concepts, and it will all make more sense I promise you.

  • How to solve the Embed Color Profile problem...

    Hi Everyone,
    This vijay from Chennai. I have one doubt for rectify the Embed color Profile problem, that's is how can i judges whether the file had Embed Color Profile or not. anyone solve this problem.
    Thanks in Advance.
    -yajiv

    I used another profiles name, because I dont have the old one installed anymore, Youll have to be exact about the letters though.
    And from a prepress-standpoint Id like to point out that removing the profile as opposed to »Convert to Profile« seems a peculiar practice, though of course Your reasons for doing so may be valid indeed.
    You could try:
    var myDocument = app.activeDocument;
    if (myDocument.colorProfileName == "U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2") {
    // =======================================================
    var idassignProfile = stringIDToTypeID( "assignProfile" );
    var desc2 = new ActionDescriptor();
    var idnull = charIDToTypeID( "null" );
    var ref1 = new ActionReference();
    var idDcmn = charIDToTypeID( "Dcmn" );
    var idOrdn = charIDToTypeID( "Ordn" );
    var idTrgt = charIDToTypeID( "Trgt" );
    ref1.putEnumerated( idDcmn, idOrdn, idTrgt );
    desc2.putReference( idnull, ref1 );
    var idmanage = stringIDToTypeID( "manage" );
    desc2.putBoolean( idmanage, false );
    executeAction( idassignProfile, desc2, DialogModes.NO );

    Cs5 Brush cursor problem, on MacBook pro, tried the latest update, and the genious dude had no idea of what to do! Apple any fix?

  • Full screen colour profile problem

    I just posted this as feedback to Apple and was curious to see if anyone was having the same problem:
    I have a dual monitor setup: One Eizo CG222W and one Eizo CG210. The 222W is my primary display (menu bar on this one). Both monitors are calibrated and profiled with a Spyder3 and ColorEyes Display Pro. I have the profiles loaded on both displays. It is worth noting that both (particularly the 222W) are wide gamut, so you may well not see this happening if you are looking at an Apple Cinema display (no offence, but you're just not going to see this so pronounced on an Apple display). To put it into perspective, I have just bought the CG222W and was not noticing any issues with the CG210 because its gamut is narrower (but still wider than a cinema display).
    So, if I view an image within Aperture (not full screen), then it looks normal, but when I hit full screen and look at the same image (on the same display), it is noticeably over-saturated. As a check I also opened the same image in Photoshop (on the same display) and it looks exactly the same as when viewed in the normal (non full screen) view of Aperture.
    It is clear that there is a colour profile problem with Aperture. It appears that when full screen mode is selected, a different profile is loaded for the display, or a different working space (if Aperture provides such functionality). I won't be doing any image adjustments in full screen mode until this has been corrected.

    There is well documented issue with this problem. The fix is to set your default monitor to whichever monitor you are using to view Aperture in full screen, using color sync utility.
    The reason you don't have this problem in PS is because it has its own color management within the software.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers

  • CS6 64bit sound problem

    Hi,
    I have Window 7 64bit system.
    Since I purchased the CS6, as soon as I installed it, the audio of my system is not playing any sound smoothly.
    First Youtube plays with some missing audio parts. Then I updated the flash player. NO luck.
    then I was recordign with Audition and the same problem was noticed when I played the sound.
    I re-imaged my system with clean window 7. The audio is prefect and no issue. Then I installed the CS6 and got problem. So I know the source of problem is CS6.
    can anyone help.
    thanks

    Ask in the AU forum. Perhaps it messes with the audio settings or installs some VST stuff that interferes...

  • Brush Tool problems

    I am having an ongoing problem with the Brush Tool in my PSE9.
    I have the question written out in Word Pad but I can't seem to copy & paste it into this box.  The 1st thing I need to know is how to copy & paste my simple text question here.
    Bob

    Barbara B.:
    It has been several days since I heard anything from you on my ongoing Brush Tool problem. From your digging what have you found? In the past 10 days I have continued spotting B&W negative scans & trying to collect additional information on the propensity of the brush tool to create a line running across the image. Basically what I have found reinforces the 7 points/factors I outlined in posting #14 on 7/7/12. I'll go over & expand on those again here.
    1) When the line runs it always goes from where I am currently spotting to some point I previously clicked & put a spot. This is not necessarily the most recent spot. It can travel to a spot I did 30 sec. ago (& have done several others in the interim). It does need to be on the visable portion of the screen.
    2) As stated. The width of the line is the same as the width of the specific selected brush size. Usually between nos. 4 & 9. The tone of the line is the same as the tone selection (so far I have only experienced this with B&W).
    3) The more I spot the slower the computer's reaction time becomes. After spotting for an hour, or two, I will see several seconds between the time I click on a spot & the time the spot actually appears on the negative. I have tried turning off PSE & rebooting it. This seems to speed things back up for a while.
    4) When the situation in #3 occurs I obviously can't click rapidly.
    5) I still don't understand why this happens at all. I move the curser outside of the image frame towards the Vert. & Horz. slider as I get ready to move to a new part of the image. I place the curser on the slider control a left click (as though to move the slider). Instead of moving the slider it shoots one of these lines out onto the image from under the slider control & out onto the image field to some point where there was a previous spotting click. These lines will often run half way across the image field. I have saved some of these examples & could attach them to an email for you to see.
    6) Once one of these lines start appearing, or running, they seem to increase with frequency. Almost as though the software is developing a memory. As I say in #3, if I re boot PSE the memory either is erased, or at least reduced.
    7) The only time the original statement is not totally true is when a line runs from under the slider (which is outside the viewing area) out into the visable image field.
    Here are some additional factors I have noticed:
    8) I normally begin spotting by setting the view drop down to "actual pixels". I notice that If I further magnify the image by then clicking once on the "zoom in" option I have a reduced frequency if these wild lines appearing. This may be due to the fact that when the image is larger I am working (stippling) at a slower rate.
    9) If I have a hair or scratch on the neg. (normally using a drawn line to obliterate) & I use a stippling/clicking pattern rather than a drawn line the frequency or chance of a free running line is reduced - not eliminated, but reduced

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush Preset Picker Problem

    Hello
    I'd like to know if it's possible to tidy up my PSCS 6 Brush Preset Picker?  Please see image.
    My brushes are installed here:  C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64bit)/Presets/Brushes
    I can't seem to find any other location that would be causing this issue.  It's only happened since I installed CS6.
    Thanks for any help or advice
    Diane

    Thanks for the response.  I realise there are duplicates.  My question is how do I delete the duplicates from the picker?  They're aren't duplicates in the actual folders.  I've also organised the brushes into folders, restarted photoshop, rebooted and the problem is the same.
    Anyone know where the duplicates might be located on my pc? Or how to delete them in the picker?
    Thanks
