CS6 Clone tool opacity problem

I am familiar with the operation of the clone tool in previous versions of Photoshop.... However after upgrading to CS6 I am having a problem with the functionality of the clone tool.
Basically when using the clone tool when its set to 100% opacity & flow, it looks as though the clone tool is only set to 50% opacity.
I'm not sure if there is a setting I am not aware of that can fix this... I am using the default configuration that came with the program.
My previous version was CS3... clone tool worked perfectly there... I dont understand why the same tool doesnt perform the same way with the same apparent settings.
If anyone has a simple solution I would love to hear it.
Thanks,
Marc

You must be using a brush preset that has those settings (wet edges & build-up) enabled in the brush panel.
Not all the brushes have those settings enabled in the the brush panel unless you were to lock those settings or just changing the tip shape.
Also in the the brush panel there is only the option to set the tip shape, unlike cs3 that has both tip shape and brush presets in the same panel.
Cs6 uses a separate panel called Brush Presets for changing the presets.
In cs6 Build Up is the same as Airbrush on in cs3.
Transfer is what Other Dynamics was in cs3

  • Clone Tool Opacity

After a long break away from Photoshop, I have returned. I now have CS3 running on Mac OS 10.4.11. When I use the clone tool, even though I set the opacity to 100%, the cloned image is substantially lighter than the original. I have tried altering all of the other options in the palette, layers etc. but nothing seems to work. If I clone and reclone, the image gets nearer in density to the original.
Could some kind person suggest what I am doing wrong please?
    Thanks
    Dennis

    Mike,
Thanks very much. When I last used Photoshop 3 there wasn't a flow control!
    Many thanks!

  • CS6 clone tool

The new clone tool in CS6 shows you what you will be transferring to the photo. I find this distracting at times. Is there any way to revert to the original use of the clone tool where the transferred portion does not show up?

You're welcome.  I'm more into New Age instrumental/electronic/ambient, as it's less distracting while working, but I get your meaning.

  • Photoshop CS6 clone tool not working

My son banged on my keyboard while I was in the middle of editing a photo using the clone tool. Now the tool is looks as though it's working when I'm sampling an area but when I go to change the designated area it isn't doing anything. And it's got a bright white spot in the circle. Help please!

The clone tool suddenly stopped working today.  I read all the posts and did everything mentioned.  I went back to CS5 and it works fine. I did notice in PS CC the clone tool sets the brush in TRANSFER to pen pressure.  I can turn that off and lock it, but it will immediately turn it back on when I use the clone tool.  It was working fine one second then stopped.  It is working VERY lightly even though set to 100%. I discovered this by creating a new document with black and white and cloning there.
    What happened?
I did have a CC update just before this happened.  I did reset everything, turn everything on and off, turn off the Graphics Processor, turn off every other application, updated the driver for the waccom tablet... all to no avail.
Any solutions?  I shall have to go back to CS5.  Don't want to.  HELP!

  • Testing CS6 - clone tool does not work - nothing  :(

While I'm new to CS6 - I'm not unfamiliar with common errors, self-help fixes when things seem to get stuck - etc.
I loaded the free trial of CS6 to see if I should buy the upgraded version, or be happy with the less expensive older programs.
Things have been going fine as I learn to navigate the new layout -- but this has got me stumped - and frustrated.
I've read through many forums - and self-help tutorials - and nothing fixes the problem!
Although I can grab the color (alt+click) -- and I see the "spot" that I drag to clone/paint over the object that I'm trying to remove...
NOTHING HAPPENS.  No color applies, nothing disappears - nada.
I'm running this on a MAC.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer -- I've run out of ideas.

Hi Bill -- thank you, also, for your speedy reply.  As I just shared with Chris who also responded, I've managed to get the tool to work again.
Some kind of hardward conflict going on - but it is resolved now.
I have run into another issue though -- while removing fly away hairs from my subject's portrait - I noticed as I cloned around the head that this spot suddenly appeared.  It is perfectly round (with an edge)... and has a bright tiny speck of un-erased/un-hidden hair (? I think that's what it is) that absolutely worsens the more I try to cover it or hide it...
    Any suggestions?
I'll try to post a screen shot....
Not sure you can see it "perfect circle" - but it has a definitive edge to it (pic on right) -- I can't, for the life of me remove it.  The background has a strong bokeh, making it
difficult to repair without being noticable.  I'm sure there's an easy way that I'm just not seeing (too many hours of frustration and not enough coffee).

  • CS5 Healing brush & Clone tool Strange Problems

When I option click a sample point to heal or clone, then release the mouse or pen, the sampled area remains in the brush diameter even though I haven't healed or cloned anything yet.  Just moving the mouse or pen around includes the image of the sampled area all over the image.  What gives?
Wasn't always like this, just last few days.  For example if I select and area with lips on a face, then move the brush to the cheek, the image of the lips remains in the brush area.  Very frustrating.  Any help would be much appreciated.  This is with both the healing brush and clone stamp tools.
    Mac OS 10.6.3, MacPro 2 X 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel 16GB ram NVIDIA GE-Force 8800 GT graphics card running CS5 in 32 bit mode.

That is a preference that was added in Photoshop CS4 to preview the cloned area (makes it easier to align).
Go to the Clone Source palette, and turn off "Show Overlay" if you don't want to see the preview.
You might want to take some time to read up on the Clone Source palette, and the options it offers -- it can really speed up a lot of common cloning tasks.

I am using Lightroom 5 and am hapy about it, but recently I hav encountered a problem when trying to edit an image in another program, i.e. Elements. I used the clone tool, saved the result and went back to Lightroom to open the image there. I did find a second copy, but this is identic with the one I already had in Lightroom, and I can see noe result of the clone process.

At the moment I would say it is uncertain whether Acrobat is completely ignoring the change, or whether the changes you are making aren't affecting the ink density. I have a suggestion for a test you could make to see which is the case.
When editing in Photoshop just add a box or mark on the image, for your tests.
    - If this box does not appear in Acrobat, you know Acrobat is not seeing the edit
    - If this box does appear in Acrobat, you know the problem is that your tool for changing ink densities is not taking effect.

  • Clone tool problem

I had an image open with four layers. On the fourth layer I was using the clone tool and I was having problems with it. As I was cloning out a section, the clone tool started to make odd pixels on the image. I had to flatten the layers and create a new layer for the clone tool to work right.

Yes this question pops up quite regularly. Its a feature that is hidden away in a panel that should probably never have been introduced. These very basic options do not appear duplicated as they should, in the Options Bar.
The answer is - if you show your Clone Source Panel, there is a checkbox called "Show Overlay" that you need to uncheck. Experiment with "Clipped" as well.

  • Installed Photoshop Elements 10 on new computer and clone tool smears dark spots around photos. Spot healing brush smears dark colors around. Lighten and contrast work ok. Have deleted program and reinstalled but same problems.

Anybody have suggestions as I am stumped?

On the clone tool's option bar, top left, click on the little triangle. Since you are having a problem with two tools, suggest that you reset all tools. Let us know whether or not this resolves the issue.

  • CS5 64 bit Clone Tool Problem

If I use the clone tool or the healing brush in CS5 64 bit, after selecting the source point with the alt key whenever I move the cursor a copy of the whole mage moves, it looks like I am moving a duplicate layer. I read a similar post in the Mac forum and the response was to de-select the show overlay in the Clone Source tool box, this works but takes away a very nice feature.
The problem does not happen in the 32 bit version.

Thank you very much that did the trick, much appreciated.

  • Problems with Clone Tool / Content Aware Scaling in CS4 Mac

I've been using PS for about 1 year and a half.  Sort of an Advanced beginner.  One of the things I love is the clone tool.  Since I've upgraded to CS4 I've had nothing but problems with the Clone tool.  When I go over an area it doesn't show anything and the either makes the adjustments after a long delay or it goes black and then comes back with the adjustment.  Sometimes when I'm dragging the brush the whole picture goes away replaced by a smear of color noise.  It really makes the tool unusable.  In many cases I've gone back to CS3.
I also have similar problems with the content aware scaling.  Never been able to get it to work.  Basically some of the nicest new features of CS4 are worthless for me.  Tried looking at Adobe solution and searching the forums but I haven't seen any exactly similar problems of solutions.
Any help appreciated.  I have a white 24' Intel Mac with a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Dual with 3GB RAM.
    Alan

As always the various User Forums are fantastic.  Adobe (and other) get everyone to do their Tech Service for them.  Thanks for the help.
So, two new pieces of info.  When I disable Open GL everything works fine.  (Sorry about the TIFF, I just didn't catch it)  So in essence this solves my problem.
Also PS CS4 works perfectly on my new Aluminum MacBook.  So clearly it is an issue with the video board on my iMac.
This brings me to the wrap-up question.  Should PS CS4 theoretically work with Open GL on my iMac or is it a know problem with CS4 and older graphics boards?  I'm assuming my board supports Open GL.

Some of the Open GL features are nice and wouldn't mind having them but not worth buying a new Mac for.  So the questions is: Is the some kind of upgrade / driver I can load to solve this problem.
    Again Thanks for the help

  • CS4 Clone Tool Problem

I am using CS4, and my clone tool will act up every once in a while by cloning to an area that I have not gone over. I will be cloning and then when I start an area, nothing happens to the area cloned (the area I am trying to cover over with selected area), then suddenly another area of the photo will show the clone.
Has anyone had this problem, and know how to fix it? I have reset my settings by doing a CTRL, Shift, ALT at startup and that doesn't fix the problem.
    Roger

Can I ask a question in this panel? I have CS 4 which I just bought, the disk that came with it only has a few minutes of tutorial on it and wants to go online, I don't have my PC on line, nor do I have the capability on any of the 5 PC's. I don't seem to be able to find the CLONE SOURCE PANEL, so can't try the de-select "Show Overlay". Can you tell me where it is? Thanks, Larry Flagg

  • CS5 clone tool problems

There is probably a setting I'm not seeing but when I clone the clone does not blend in like in CS3.It's very harsh. I've been to the clone menus and in the preferences settings but the clone is not working the way I like. Any help is appreciated or let me me know if I have not described the problem correctly.
    Thanks,
    Marion

Marion, can you please describe your editing environment a little better?
You speak as though the clone tool will normally "look harsh before blending in"...
That's not at all how it looks, or has looked, for me back through Photoshop version 6 and beyond.  When I clone (or do anything else) with a fuzzy-edged brush it just brushes on fuzzy.
If it is doing this for you something is clearly different between your system and others, or you're working in a way that's somehow different than others.
Are you working on the same computer with the same video drivers as when you were using CS3 and saw this behavior?  Is it a very old computer?

  • Clone tool problems

I recently purchased the Adobe cs5 upgrade.
it works fine but I am encountering a huge problem with the clone tool.I am trying to clone from one image to another. I click on the source image and the familiar tool with the crosshair appears. When I move over to the target image the original crosshair on the source image disappears but the cloning occurrs. on my target image
The + sign on the source image is now invisible so it is hard to  view the area I want to clone from
IN cs3 the + sign remained on the source image. I reset the tool but the problem still remains.
However when cloning  one part to another on  the same image there is no problem and  can see what area I am cloning from
I do not know if there are any preferences  I failed to choose. I am very familiar with Photoshop so this really baffles me
Hopefully some one will be able to solve this
    Thanks for any assistance

Photoshop CS5 works for me just as you described too:  No source indicator when cloning between images, a + indicator when cloning in the same image.  In this case OpenGL Drawing was enabled, set to Advanced mode.
    I did some additional testing...
With Photoshop CS5 and OpenGL DISABLED the behavior changes.  In this case the + indicator DOES move around on the source image even when cloning from another image.
I also verified the exact same condition exists with Photoshop CS4.
Perhaps it's just something they couldn't quite get to work with the new OpenGL drawing mode.
Running without OpenGL is probably not a good workaround, as you lose a number of other good things without it.

  • Cs6 missing clone tool

I only have a pattern stamp tool can't seem to find a clone tool anywhere... I thought it had both.  when I click on the pattern stamp there is only that tool nothing else to select...is it a setting under the pattern tool? or is it somewhere else completely?

The clone stamp tool should be grouped in the same slot in the toolbox as the pattern stamp tool.
Click and hold on the pattern stamp tool icon in the toolbox to reveal to hidden tools, the clone stamp tool in your case.
This cs5, but cs6 is the same in regards to the clone stamp tool in the toolbox.
