CS6 compatibility with older macs (2007-2008), using Mavericks 10.9

I've heard about compatibility issues with older macs (2007-2008) when trying to run Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection CS6 with Mavericks 10.9. Right now I'm using CS6 on my existing mid-2007, with Mountain Lion, -works great, and I'm worried if I upgrade to Mavericks there may be problems (based on FAQs)
I do lots of video editing/rendering and am looking into getting another back-up computer to speed up editing time. I'm looking at purchasing an older Apple Mac Pro Tower : 2008 : Xeon 8-core 2.8ghz : 16gb ram : 1TB hd. Will this run Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection CS6 if I'm using Mavericks 10.9? If not, why?
Does the issue pertain to Mavericks with older macs, or is it CS6 with Mavericks, or what? Thanks!

Mac 10.9.3 and CS6 https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1480238 may help

Install ClamXav and run a scan with that. It should pick up any trojans.

  • Can't Use Video with other Mac users who use AIM

I know that ichat is compatible for video chats with other pc users who use aim, but does it work with other mac users who use aim?
Everytime I try to chat with my friend, I get an error message when trying to start of a video chat.
BTW, I use a iMac G5 with an isight camera.

    Hi Staci,
    For a Bit of Clarity.
AOL have their Instant Message App. referred to as AIM.
Apple decided and did a deal with AOL that iChat could join their service Buddy Lists.
On these Discussions we tend to refer iChat as Logging into AIM, as they are the servers that the Buddy Lists are held on.
As iChat can also use Bonjour and Jabber, both of which have their own Buddy list window on your Mac. The Jabber side needs you to have a Jabber screen name - so again people differentiate between this and the AIM side.
I would guess you friend is trying to make it clear that she is using the AIM side of iChat as opposed to the Jabber side.
As has been said already, the Application side of things also tend to get referred to generically as "AIM" as well.
The Mac version has stopped and 4.7 and will only Text chat.
The PC side needs 5.9 to clearly Video or Audio chat with a Mac using iChat. (AIM 6.0 is not stable enough to A/V chat to iChat).

  • What new monitors are compatible with my Mac Pro 2008

My monitor Samsung Sync Master didn't turn on the next day after simple putting the computer to sleep at night. Now I am searching for a new monitor and want o make sure I find on that is compatible with my Mac Pro 2008. What do I need to pay attention to while searching?

Does the monitor work now from a reboot?
    IOf yes then:
OS X: When your Mac doesn't sleep or wake - Apple Support
Apple computers: Black screen or unresponsive Mini DisplayPort display after sleep - Apple Support
Just about any modern monitor will work with your Mac

  • Installing cs6 on my older mac

I want to install cs6 on my older Mac.
    I am running osx 10.6
It doesn't look like I have the required 64 bit kernel.
Can I get it? Do I need it?
    Thanks

Yes, you need it. Whether you can get it will depend on how old your Mac and what model it actually is. Still, even if it is possible, it will require a full reinstall of OSX and configuring it accordingly.

Does version 3.0.1 allow sync with older Macs with PPC, or only with icloud?

    Thanks again John,
That is exactly what I mean, Im having problems giving planning users only calc access for Essbase. If I do that the users are not able top run scripts from the Planning app.
What is strange is that for a while it was working for some users, but not for others, now the only thng that works is to give users admin rights for Essbase server.

  • Using iTunes store with older Mac

I have a 5 year old Mac PowerBook G4 10.4.11, and cannot seem to access iTunes store any longer. My older Itunes store has ceased to function and the new version will not work on older Mac (yay Apple!). The new version needs 10.5 to work, so I am left with a non-functional iTunes.
(I also just want to point out that 5 years old is NOT ancient for a home-based laptop.)
Is there any way I can continue to buy music at iTunes with a work-around, or a version of the current iTunes made for older Macs, or should I just shop elsewhere, at (ironically) more Mac-friendly online shops?
I specifically bought my machine planning to have a long life out of it and get good value, but now Apple are turning a really happy customer into a really seriously ****** one with this ploy to get me to update my machine, which I will not do unnecessarily.
A very unhappy, currently unable-to-buy-anything customer.
In the meanwhile, if anyone can help or give sound advice, besides moving to Ubuntu and avoiding Apple altogether henceforth, I'll be really appreciative.

    Lee888,
There has been some unhappiness about that lately, but indeed the Store will not work with old versions of iTunes.
But you can easily shop for music at the Amazon.com MP3 Store.  (If you are in the UK, use amazon.co.uk).
The Amazon store only needs a browser, so is unaffected by upgrade issues.  I guess it meets your definition of "(ironically) more Mac-friendly online shops."
Once you have the MP3s, simply add them to your iTunes library.

  • CS6 Compatibility with OS X

Is there a compatibility cutoff for CS with Mac OS X versions? Is CS6 compatible with 10.7. 10.8, 10.9 and/or 10.10? What is the compatibility cutoff if any?

Hey bookguy & Welcome to Discussions,
I too love my OS 9 and the printer Im using is for 9 only.
It's an Epson Stylus Photo 780 and it works great.

  • Toshiba TV with older Mac Mini

    Hi,
I was thinking of buying a HD TV by Toshiba that claims it can be connected to a Computer (makes no mention of Mac) using it’s “PC INPUT (15-PIN D-SUB)“ port. I’ve seen others mention using HDMI instead. What port on my older Mac Mini would I connect to? I think the video port is an HD monitor out.
Anyone have any experience with this? I wanted to use the TV as a monitor for the Mini some of the time.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, and so long for now, TOM

All minis have had some form of DVI up until the most recent model. DVI can provide either an analog or digital signal, and because of the ubiquity of VGA monitors the early minis came with a DVI to VGA adapter. The same DVA connection however can deliver a digital signal if the video hardware in the computer supports it, which the minis always have. Audio is not included in this type of connection however, although some TVs support using a combined HDMI and secondary audio input. Many times one HDMI is specifically grouped with a set of RCA inputs on the back for this purpose.
The big difference in how you connect is that most standard video devices sources have historically used an overscan method of image delivery. The image is actually larger than the screen area you will be presented, so the TV overlaps the outer part beyond the actual viewing area. This is largely an artifact of when CRT TVs had fairly widely varied true display areas, and even broadcast equipment couldn't provide a perfectly consistent image area. Because this practice is still used, most video input methods designed for 'dumb' video source like broadcast, cable, satellite, or set top boxes and players use an overscan method. Some TVs allow you to adjust this for the normal video type inputs, like composite, component, S-video, and HDMI. Computers have basically always used a pixel for pixel image rendering model, so VGA as an almost exclusively computer standard does not use overscan. Thus, when a TV has VGA, that input does not use an overscan method to display the image.

  • What is the best external hard drive for an older Mac (2007)

Need to purchase an external drive and wondering if the
    G-Tech 1TB G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Hard Drive (5400 rpm) - Special Edition
one will work on a 2007 desktop Mac with USB 2 and fully updated to Maverick Version 10.9.2.

Data cloning apps are another and more reliable method of creating a full backup of your Mac's internal hard drive than using and relying on Apple's own Time Machine app for data backups.
Data cloning apps make an exact replica of your internal hard drive that is transferred to to another hard drive.
In your example, tonan externally connected hard drive.
The cloning software transfers everything including a complete working, bootable copy of your currently running OS.
This is a bounus as you get your important data backed up and in addition your whole operating system gets backed up, as well, and you get the additional bonus of being able to boot and run your Mac from that external drive if something happens with your Mac's internal hard drive.
Plus, once you make the initial clone with everything from your internal drive copied, the cloning software can be tweaked to just do incremental backups of just any data the has been recently added to your internal drive,
So, the next day or week or next time you make a backup, the cloning software will only clone data that is new or has been altered since the last time the internal drive was cloned.

  • Can anyone tell me, should the bold sync with a Mac, Entourage 2008?

I'm having load of problems with pocketmac, their support is not the best at getting back to you fast and I am really losing a lot of time on this now.
just wondering, should I be syncing no probs with the following:
    Macbook Pro?
    Entourage 2008?
    Blackberry Bold?
    thanks

I just found out the hard way (after well over an hour on the phone--the first day after my new Bold arrived) that Blackberry's software development is aware of a known synch issue between later 2008 Macbook Pro's and the new Bold.  Apparently, when apple updated their fiber optic (?) connections in their usb's, it caused an 'issue' which creates the errors between Entourage & the device. My Macbook Pro is not the brand new one--it's the revision that came out in August. I'm sure the issue is the same for the latest version of the MacBook Pro too. It also keeps itunes from synching. No known fix yet.  Missing Synch software will not fix it either.  I was told 'check back in a couple weeks' which means my new Bold is not looking so bold at the moment.  If you have an OLDER mac and/or OLDER Blackberry, you should be ok. I know that from a programmer's perspective, 'newer' is harder to account for, but good grief.  I hate spending a premium for latest gear and having it 'unknown' in terms of when it will actually be supported properly. And it's not like they exactly rushed the 9000 to market.

  • No compatability with older printer hardware/software and no windows media center

What can I say except that Microsoft is the only company that releases an inferior product after years of having a great product. Windows 8.1 and 8 would be fine if it were compatible with old hardware i.e. printers and had Windows Media Center. This is
now a very bare bones product. I certainly won't be paying the $129 price tag for Windows Pro 8.1 pack, just to get media center - not when there's so many free alternatives around for that. In future, don't purchase a photo quality printer that costs a fortune.
Buy a nasty cheap one with inexpensive cartridges, as eventually you won't be able to install the older software for your far superior printer i.e. Epson stylus photo 1270.  Sounds like a collusion with both Microsoft and Printer manufacturers to get
folk purchasing hardware they don't want or need, while they're older hardware works just fine - it's the new operating systems that don't. No thank you.

    Hi,
Please understand that Microsoft's partners have shared clear concerns over the costs associated with codec licensing for traditional media playback, especially as Windows 8 enables an unprecedented variety of form factors. Windows has addressed these concerns
in the past by limiting availability of these experiences to specialized “media” or “premium” editions.
That's why the Media center is separated for additional cost.
For the compatibility thing about older device, you can use the compatible mode to install the related driver on Windows 8 and 8.1 to get it work.

  • Networking together with older Macs

I am running Tiger 10.4.3. I have in the past, with earlier versions of OSX, connected to computers in my household running 8.6. I had to do this when I changed over to my new computer, which at the time was using Jaguar. We got a DSL connection, so we decided to network the computers together. I cannot mount the disks from the older computers running 8.6. They show up in the Network, but when you click connect, we get the error message: This file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. You cannot connect to it.
Do I have something set up wrong, or has apple made it impossible for a computer running Tiger to connect to a computer running 8.6? If they have made it impossible to do this, will it be possible for me to connect to my children's computers if I upgrade them to 9.1?

Is there a way for them to access my computer
    without
having to enter an IP address each time?
This should be possible if you check the "Make
AppleTalk Active" option in Tiger's AppleTalk pane of
the appropriate network port in the Network system
preference. (Probably "Built-in Ethernet" if you use
a wired router.) This should 'broadcast' the Tiger
Mac's network name (set in the Sharing sys pref) to
the older Macs, allowing them to see that name in the
Chooser & connect to it in the traditional way.
We have AppleTalk active in Tiger. We can see the name of the Tiger computer in the chooser on the older computers, but if we try to connect that way, it loses the connection. If we enter the IP address, in the chooser, it works though.
One word of caution about this one way sharing: the
older OS versions don't know enough not to show files
on OS X Macs that they shouldn't. You should make
sure your kids don't access it using an admin account
name to avoid exposing more of the OS X Mac's hard
drive than necessary. Even if they just can access
their own account's home folder (recommended), public
folders, etc., a few normally invisible files will
show up, so make sure they understand they should not
    disturb them.
They only have access to the public folder.
    Can 9.1 communicate both ways?
Yes, as long as the enable file sharing over TCP/IP
box is checked in its File Sharing control panel.
(This is the checkbox missing in earlier versions.)
I have an old SuperMac S900 that doesn't officially
support anything later than 9.1 either (because it
uses a 680X0 processor). Its network name appears in
Tiger Finder's networked volumes list & I can connect
to its "available shares" without getting the
incompatible AFP version error or any other problems.
It is sometimes slow to show up on the network list
after starting up, & the same may apply for your
children's Macs, but if you give it 5 minutes or so,
they should appear & work just as well.
Well, that is good to know. My children all have power PC's PowerMac 5400 for most of them and one PowerMac 5500. Got them all at school auctions or they wouldn't have their own computers. : - )
