CS6 corrupting quicktimes unreadable

Hello,
We experienced a major bug when working with AE CS6.
AE will change any Quicktime exported from AVID when importing or opening.
This will result in unreadable files with the error:
"this 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported"
In CS5 the file would open properly without any problem.
What really makes this issue dramatic: AE CS6 is corrupting the file
while opening it!
when you import the Quicktime for the first time it looks as everything is ok.
Save the project and open it again,-error.
This destroyed almost all the quicktime footage from a production when someone accidentially opened the project withCS6 where all the clips where linked to.
What is going on here?
Thank you very much,
Ruediger

Note that there has been an Adobe technical staff member on this thread for a while now, Greg Baber.
A real person does read and process every bug report that we get through this form. In fact, that person is sometime me---though the rotating responsibility right now happens to be in the hands of one of my colleagues. Similarly, a real person (me at this time) reads every feature request that we get through the same form.
Regarding this specific bug: We are looking into this and are discussing how we can prevent this problem in the future. For now, the best thing to do is to disable that preference for writing XMP IDs to files on import.

  • Ipod cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

I have recently had to reload windows xp home edition on my computer and wanted to connect my ipod to load some new music. As it was a new installation the ipod was not recognised. I loaded to latest version of itunes that I have just downloaded and was asked whether I wanted to sync my ipod with this computer in which case I would lose everything that was on the ipod. I choose yes to sync to the new computer but got the error message "the ipod "ipod" cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". I simply recharged the ipod and continued to use it for a day but then it just ran through the tracks without playing anything until it came to the end of an album and returned to the main menu.
As I cannot play anything I wanted to restore and reload but cant. Could anyone offer any help ? Thanks

I have just managed to connect my ipod through itunes to restore it. However when I tried to connect it to the wall socket to complete the update nothing happens. I have checked the fuse in the plug and that is okay, but the ipod does nothing, not even a light on the display when connected. It seems to have locked up. If I hold it close to my ear I can hear a gentle hum. Also the ipod is not showing up in windows explorer.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

  • Ipod cannot be synced. File or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

After I tried reconnecting my ipod to my computer, the message "The iPod cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." popped up in iTunes and it wouldn't let me access any of the songs on my ipod. I ejected it and checked the ipod, and all of my songs were still on there, but whenever I try and connect it to iTunes the same message pops up and when I go to the music list, nothing is there, though it states 3 GBs of space is being taken up (the amount of space my songs use).
I figured the problem might lay in iTunes and not my iPod, but while there was a problem and I did manage to fix it, the newly downloaded iTunes still gave me the same message as before.
I figure I could try reformatting the iPod, since it looks like that might solve the problem, but I don't have any of the songs on my iPod backed up, so I was hoping someone might be able to offer another solution. =/
*To sum things up: songs are still on my iPod and I can listen to them after ejecting, but syncing up to iTunes is no longer possible (so no new music ;_; ). Problem most likely isn't with iTunes and I'd prefer not to reformat the iPod.*

  • Corrupted Quicktime Program

I currently have a corrupted version of Quicktime that will not allow me to uninstall(something about a file missing). It will not allow me to install my itunes/quicktime program for my ipod. How can I get rid of the corrupted quicktime program?

The uninstaller for QT 6 is unvise32qt located somewhere in C:\windows\system 32. If it is missing the add\remove programs control panel will not remove QT. Then you would have to remove it manually and then go into the registry to remove QT from the add\remove control panel.
Somewhere on the web I read that there is some spyware or virus or something of the sort that is masquerading itself as unvise32qt. So when a anti spyware program is used to scan a computer it picks up on it, and quarintines or removes or whatever it does. Thinking it is the spyware rather than the QT uninstaller, therefore the trouble uninstalling QT.
You could also try windows installer cleanup utility, to see if it may help.

  • Error: "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

    This is driving me nuts.
I've had my 5th gen. iPod for over a year now, but just two days ago, when I plugged it in to my computer I received a message saying, "The iPod "name here" cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
To solve this problem, I tried using different USB ports, restarting my iPod, and reinstalling iTunes - all to no avail. I'd really like to avoid restoring my iPod, so I haven't tried that option yet. The iPod works fine outside of adding new music. Also, I ran chkdsk and got nothing from it.
I'm very sad about this. I love my iPod and I want to be able to put new music on it! Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the reply!
I downloaded the program and ran it, got to the point where it says I have errors that need to be fixed... but it appears I have to pay for the rest of the program to actually repair these errors. Is this incorrect?
If I do have to pay, then I'd like to look for an alternative... the program is $40; of course, that's cheaper than buying a new iPod, but I want to avoid that too.

  • Corrupted and unreadable file

    Hi There,
I need some help with iTunes. Yesterday I went to use iTunes and instead of opening, I got something that said,*"The iTunes application could not be opened. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."*
So I'm still unable to open it. I even tried to download the latest version of itunes last night, but I'm still getting the same thing. HELP! Thanks in advance.
    Heather M.

I haven't seen that one, I would start with a disk check.
Open my computer and right click on your c: drive. Select Properties>>Tools>>error checking.
If that finds an fixes a problem it may be necessary to do a repair install of iTunes.
    Please report back with results.

  • Getting message E:\iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesPrefs corrupt or unreadable

I only bought my iPod three weeks ago, and everything had been running smoothly.
But today while putting a playlist together my whole memory (7 gb) was wiped (it was on the manual update setting) and I cannot explain why.
Now I keep getting the message that file or directory E:\iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesPrefs is corrupt or unreadable.
When I attach my iPod, it keeps wanting me to register again, which has no effect on the problem at hand. The iPod icon comes up in the source column and my iPod can be updated with what's in my iTunes library and the screen shows that a certain amount of available memory has been used.
However when it is disconnected and I try to use the iPod there are no files on it.

  • Corrupt or unreadable file

I just bought a new 60gb IPod. Installed ITunes and tried adding songs to my ipod. Being that this is a new installation of ITunes I did not expect any errors. Then as I connect the Ipod and try copying songs to it I get an error saying, "corrupt or unreadable file \program files\itunes\itunesprefs". Now the songs that are copied show up under the Ipod but when using my Ipod there is nothing in it.
Now i still use dial-up, i did not expect to have to update the moment i got my Ipod.

Possibly. It looks like you have a bad or incomplete iTunes install.
If resetting the .pref files does not help, then do a 'Repair Install':
    - Start menu -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Add or Remove Programs
    - Select iTunes, Select Change/Remove button, Select "Repair", Click OK
    - After it finishes, reboot the PC
COMPUTER PREPARATION for REPAIRING, INSTALLING or UNINSTALLING
Prior to Repairing, Installing or Uninstalling ANY software package, close ALL running programs. In addition, you should temporarily disable any TSR (Terminate & Stay Resident) programs like firewalls, virus scanners, spy sweepers and the like. You will need to disable them both before uninstalling ANY software and/or before installing ANY software. Most of these TSR programs have System Tray Icons (usually located in the lower-right corner of your XP screen), that allow for an ‘exit’ or ‘quit’ or ‘shutdown’. Usually a single right-click on the icon will bring up a selection menu.

  • Corrupt or unreadable directory

When I tried to print a PDF file this morning from our club management software i got a message asking me to pick a program to use to open the file ... Reader did not appear on the list. (I'm running a PC with Windows Vista.)  When I went into the Program Files folder and clicked on the Acrobat 10.0 folder I receikved a message telling me the directory was corrupt or unreadable. I ran into an error trying to uninstall the program. I can't even drag the program folder to the trash. After a series of "Are you sure" type questions, the computer spns for a minute or so then tells me it can't move the folder because the directory is not emptty. When I try to download the program again the installation software tells me I have Reader already installed. Not sure how to fix this.

It's extremely likely that the hard drive in your computer is starting to fail. At any moment, it could fail completely, losing everything on the disk.
So make fixing that (& saving whatever isn't backed up) your priority, before worrying about whether particular apps work or not.

  • Corrupted quicktime video during backup

When I tried copying over a quicktime video from one hard drive to another, I noticed that it cause major issues with the videos image and audio. Completely scrambling the video and creating a loud buzzing sound when the video played.
Here is a still frame of the corrupted quicktime video.
Fortunately the original video file was fine so I just copied the file over and it was okay the second time, but does anyone know causes this to occur? How do you prevent this from occurring in the future. What is it called when this happens?

Happened to me once as well. Never happened again but I am a curious sort. Let's see if an expert can help. This reply will give the Q a boost in the list.

  • Unable to Open Itunes because of a corrupt or unreadable file.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times on this computer and every time I try to open it I get an error message reading "The itunes applications could not be opened. The file or directory is corrupt or unreadable". At the same time in the bottom right corner of my computer a box appears saying that the itunes.exe file is corrupt. I don't know what to do if uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work. Any help is appreciated.

We'll first try running a disk check over the C drive (or whichever drive you have your iTunes program files installed on). There's Vista instructions in the following document.
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. You'll probably need to schedule the scan to run on restart. The disk check should take quite a while to run. If it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the disk check find/repair any damage? If so, are you able to reinstall iTunes now?

When I open itunes, I have to import my library everytime... and it says that the library file is corrupt or unreadable and cannot be saved. Can anyone else with this issue, please?

hmmmm. perhaps try running a chkdsk over the drive on which your iTunes library file is stored:

does that find/repair any damage? if so, do you still get the same message from your itunes?
