CS6 Disk Cache reporting as full when it's not

I put a 120GB Samsung Pro 840 Pro SSD on a Sonnet Tempo Card into my 4,1 Mac Pro to use a AE's Disk Cache, I set the disk cache to 100GB
Recently AE often reports that there is not enough available space on the drive for the cache when I start it up.  When I look at the drive in the OS, it says there is over 100GB available and the cache folder is 10GB in size.  A previous time the numbers were different but essentially the problem was the same - I should have a lot of free space but AE doesn't see it.
What the hell is going on?

That message does not say that the cache is full.
That message says that there is not enough room to safely store the amount of cache that you have specified.
So, the cache may only have 20GB in it now, but After Effects is telling you that if it fills to the full 100GB that you have specified, then you're going to run into problems.
This is meant as a polite forward-looking warning that you have set the total size of the folder too high for the amount of space that you have on your disk.
You should never fill a disk all the way full. You should always leave some free space. Opinions differ, but 20% is a good conservative amount to leave free.

I want to be assured that my back up is working completely.    What if my MacBookPro auto-logs off my account during the backup due to no activity?   Or, is the backup considered activity and it won't log off?
What about  the Energy saving options - will they affect the backup ?

Assuming you mean via Time Machine, yup.    It backs up your entire system, including all user accounts (unless you specifically exclude things).

I've never tried it, but the backups run as the "root" user, so will probably continue.  If they don't, it's not a problem, as the next backup will "catch up" with all changes.
What about  the Energy saving options - will they affect the backup ?
Not really.  If you have the Mac set to shut down at a particular time, that will of course interrupt a backup if one is running.  But again, the next backup will catch up.

  • AE cs6 disk cach settings

    hi community
    i'm rocking AE version 11.0.1.12
my system is a 2x 2.4ghz quad core intel xeon mac with 16gb ram. i'm on lion 10.7.4
following my upgrade to CS6 I have installed a new 120gb SSD to work as a cache to make use of the global performance cache.
this was all last week, so I haven't yet done any serious testing to see if this is really working, but I'm posting because every time I start up AE i get this dialog:
i've messed around with the preferences options for disk cache but this seems to happen whatever amount of drive space I've allocated.
currently I have it set to 60gb - half the size of this drive - but ideally I'd like to use the whole dang thing.
here's a screenshot of my cache prefs:
i should point out that there is nothing else on this drive. its a 120gb OCZ vertex3 esata internal  SSD.
i came to the forum as I can't find anything in the ae help docs or online relating to optimum settings for a dedicated SSD cache drive, so i'm not sure what I'm doing wrong... but I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be getting an error like this.
your input, as always is appreciated
    dan

Simply ignore it. Seems to be a bug. I'm even getting it on my 2TB RAID.

  • I am trying to restore my phone but everyone I go to do it, it goes to Update which takes 2 and a half hours, and everytime it fails. Ive tried four times now. I'm trying to restore because it says my memory is full, when it is not. I'm so frustrated.

I am trying to restore my phone, but when i go to do it on iTunes, it Updates to 4.3.3 however everytime the 2 and a half hour update finishes, it FAILS. So the update fails, and the restore fails. Its happened 4 ties.
Im trying to restore my phone, because it says my memory is full when its not and an online solution says to restore. I cant restore because it wont let me update.
Im so frustrated, i cant take any pictures, download any music or apps, and its really getting me down. Please can someone help.

This error generally indicates a hardware failure.  Bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.

Restore the device to clean up OTHER. If Other is still over 2 gbs after restoring, restore again as new.

  • Logic showing disk full when it's not

while tracking the other day on a clients song twice logic (8.2 on 10.4.11) the disk status showed that the disk was full and stopped recording. while this has never happened before, this only happened while using punch in function. after shutting down the song and reloading, the disk went back to normal reporting of space left (457gb out of 500gb). does anyone know if this a logic bug or just an anomaly associated with this particular song file.
    thanks
    rick

Hopefully it will never happen again, but there's no need for a thumb drive or an internet connection. Sometimes it's helpful to have a screenshot showing the error dialog, but often it's sufficient just to note the exact text appearing in the message. And you can do this the old-fashioned way, with a pencil and paper. Or even a quill and parchment! (If you're working in a really old-fashioned studio.)
logic seems to be doing a lot of these anomalous things lately and it's really annoying.
One way or another there has to be an explanation, so if these things happen again and you post more information, I bet you'll be able to find solutions.

  • Brother's iMac won't download updates, indicates disk is full when it's not

I convinced my bro to not purchase a Windows machine, due to spyware, viri and such. He'd been using an office pc, which had an IT department to keep the crap off and as such had a relatively problem free existence. I informed him that with a PC he'd be constantly working on keeping it virus free. Of course, with the problems described hereafter, he is having second thoughts about my advice and so am I....
Here's the story.... he had update to 10.4.11 first, after that he couldn't download Google Earth updates. He was learned of other problems because the daily Google Earth tip would come up and wouldn't go away. At about the same time, the ability to download ceased. He was trying to redownload Google Earth to take care of the earlier problem.
Of course, as a new mac user, he was sleeping his mac at night, not understanding that the OS does maintenance routines in the early morning hours. So this may have led to some of his problems.
Nonetheless, he now has a machine, which won't download.
The machine would indicate that there was insufficient disk space. But there is well over 50 gigabytes of space. Of course, we tried repair permissions, etc. We then decide to do an archive and install. The machine still won't permit downloads as it indicates there is insufficient disk space.
Short of deleting everything and reinstalling, is there anything else that can be done?

Thanks for your insights. I'm an Applejack fan too. Use it from time to time also. We tried that last evening. It wouldn't download either. Interestingly and perhaps a clue for those with more insight than me into this - nothing will download to his Mac, except, the Apple software updates. They, mysteriously to me, are permitted space to download. Is that a clue anyone can discern and to which anyone can give me some insights?
Interestingly, one of the updates is a firmware update 1.2 I recall. I told him to have backup power, in case, there is a power failure - when he does this. I'm guessing that may be part of his problem as well.
The problem with Apple is that there is no instruction book. And many folks aren't interested in delving into the complexities of command lines and such. I guess we need another Mac Bible or Mac Encyclopedia (my favourite in pre- OS X Macs). It's difficult diagnosing this stuff over the phone. I'm counting on, when I can afford it, running his computer by remote, when I can afford 10.5. Realizing I can do this now, I'm not prepared to set it up just yet.
So, thanks for the suggestions, he's going to get a flash drive, or blank cd roms and copy his stuff to a CD, then do a clean install, after he updates the firmware.
Please don't wait to write, should anyone have any further insights on this.
Don't know whether he sees any extra disk space.

  • Keep getting errors that Disk Space is full when it is not

This past week I have had problems with my mac.  It started last week when it stopped letting me save files to my hard drive along with running very slow.  I still had around 100gb left on my drive at this time.  I checked my disk through disk utility and all was fine.  The problem persisted and because I have projects due this week I went ahead and backed up my important files and wiped my drive and reinstalled OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5.  The problem still persists and applications are hit and miss at opening.  When I try to save a file I occasionally get the disk space error.  When I try to install bundled applications such as Illustrator or After Effects they always fail.  I installed clamx to see if there was any vicious malware, clams would not update its virus definitions and would always fail when attempting too.    I finally got it to update and the scan found nothing.  I went to disk utility and when I verified disk I got "Problem with EFI partition"  I repaired the disk and still issues persist. The Macbook Pro is only a year and 3 weeks old.  I had to use a friends computer to post.  Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

  • Disk Utility Reporting Hardware Failure on Mac HD- Not Repairable

Hi! Looks like my hard drive is toast on my 24" aluminum case 24" imac. NOT under warranty although I bought it in Jan 09. DU reporting Mac HD in RED with message...'disk utility has detected hardware problem which cannot be repaired'. Ok. Will a simple hard drive replacement do the trick? Or, could there be additional grief? Thanks!

Do you have a backup of at least your personal data on the drive? If you do, you should try reformatting (erasing) the drive using Disk Utility, before giving up on it.
Restart from your Mac OS X installation disc, for the system you have installed currently; to do so, insert disc and restart with the C key held down. When you get to the first Installer screen (after language selection), go up to the menu bar. Under Utilities, select to run Disk Utility. In the sidebar, select the internal drive. On the +First Aid+ tab, run +Repair Disk+ (not +Repair Disk Permissions+ ). Do you still get that previous error at some point in this process? Do you get some other error that Disk Utility is not able to repair?

  • My iphone 4s says it can't sync my itunes because its full when its actually not

hi,  i am trying to sync my iphone 4s to my itunes (essentially new phone, new computer, old library) (my phone was synced to my old computer before this), but it won't work because it says it is too full.  The bar along the bottom of itunes and the 'properties' section on my computer each say i have at least 14GB left on a 32GB phone, and my itunes library is about 16GB, therefore i should have enough room to sync to the library on this computer.  i have even tried just adding a few artists but still it says it is too full with roughly the same amount of mb apparently required.  i have allowed access to sync to this computer etc, i have removed all duplicates of songs (a leftover effect from syncing it to my old computer first i think), and the 'other' section is displaying as only small so shouldn't be clogging it up.
So i'm at a bit of a loss on how to get my phone synced (and put my new albumns on there).
Also, on what i think is a slightly seperate issue - when i originally synced to my old computer's itunes library it would show all my songs on my iphone, but over about 1/3 of them were greyed out and unplayable on my phone but not my computer?  not sure if these are related?
If you can answer either or both of the questions i would be pretty blummin chuffed!
    Thanks muchly!

Well i seem to have sorted this myself - i reset my phone back to its original settings and then used the back up on my computer to restore everything.  so far all my songs appear to be there, i'm just chasing up where my Apps have gone!

  • ITunes 11.1.5 says my iPod Classic (160gb) full when it is not!

I want to say that after iTunes (11.1.3?) my iPod Classic (160gb) will not sync anymore.
I have recently updated iTunes to latest version of 11.1.5 with no luck!
In short, I am using Windows 7 and cannot get my iPod to sync anymore.
I keep getting the error message that my iPod is full and cannot be synced unless I clear some space...and when I say 'space' it wants
another 20gb free to just add a few new albums that I downloaded.
The problem is that I still have 15gb free and IT IS NOT FULL.  With a full capacity of 148gb, I have used ~130gb.  Even in the info bar it shows the correct usage of space on my iPod and shows that there IS free space.
None of it makes any sense and it is completely in error on behalf of Apple.
Also, I am no novice to PC's and have tried everything short of re-installing iTunes, which I refuse to do.
My current PC build is and has the latest software and hardware available and everything up-to-date.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If you need anymore info from me then just let me know.
    Many thanks

First of all, let's get a few things straight.
    me too said:
I purposely created several different threads because I wasn't sure which discussion to enter in and it is my opinion that it fit into any of these categories.
Actually, you posted the same thing into the iPod Classic forum four times, and one additional thread in (if I recall correctly) the iTunes for Windows forum. That's impolite; at best it simply clutters up the forum with unnecessary threads, which can cause other people's valid posts to be missed in the mass; and at worst, you'll get responses to more than one of your threads which will confuse, not just you, but anyone trying to help you. I've seen it happen.
I'll ask again, please refrain from multiple posting.
    me too said:
I am also aware that the "other" is my album art.
    No it is not.
There is always a small amount of Other on an iPod, but large amounts of Other indicates data that has become corrupted and cannot be used by the iPod.
Your screenshot, which finally confirms the actual message you are getting, suggests that despite what you may believe, you are trying to Sync at lest 22GB of media to your iPod. One album in .wav form would only take up about 700MB, so you have to work out what else is set to Sync. Check the photos pane (just along from Summary) to make sure that there isn't an album of photos set to Sync. Also check the other panes as well, for Podcasts, videos etc. that you may not have realised are set to Sync.
If all else fails, start taking music off your iPod, so that this unknown media can be put on. That way, at least you will be able to see what is being put on that you didn't know about. Then, you can take that off and put back on only what you want.
Let me just make a final suggestion: your comment ...
"None of it makes any sense and it is completely in error on behalf of Apple."
... isn't going to help you in any way. Stop blaming Apple and look for the actual problem. Once you find the problem, and can therefore see the cause, then - if you must - you can blame someone.

  • After 9.2.1 update, iPhone reports as locked when it is not?

Locking and unlocking the iPhone 4 w/ iOS 5 does not help. Quiting and relaunching the app does not help. Computer is a MacBook Pro w/ 10.6.8
Last sync with iPhoto a few weeks ago with no issues. Just did the 9.2.1 update and attempted to sync, yes, I should have synced BEFORE the update.

i suggest you do the following:
your profile suggests you're running 10.6.2. if that's the case, download and run the [_*Mac OS X v10.6.4 combo update*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1048] (repair permissions before running the updater, restart, and repair permissions again after running it).
when done, run software update from the  menu and install any updates offered.
if the problem persists, try *removing iTunes completely* (click here and follow the instructions), then reinstall it using the standalone installer from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

  • Mac Book Pro on Mountain Lion HDD shows almost full when it is not

    Hi,
I am using a MacBook Pro End 2011, with an HDD of 500 GB.
There is a partition on the HDD, and one side runs Mac, and the partition is for Windows 7 via Parallels (about 125 GB).
SInce about the last 10 days, my HDD shows only 10 GB of free space, and I think it should be having much more free space.
My data is about 105 odd GB, and the folder "Applications" shows about 7.5 GB used.
I fail to understand how the HDD can be out of space.
I tried using Disk Utility, and the option to "Repair".
While it runs and repairs some permissions, it says that some permissions cannot be replaired and that they have been modified, but the problem does not resolve.
Also , the machine feels a bit slower than before.
    Help much appreciated.
    Thanks, in advance.

  • Flash drive is being read as full when it is not

I am trying to transfer a file to my flash drive and I keep getting a message saying my flash drive is full- it is not. I have tried multiple flash drives on all of my usb ports and still cant get my file to transfer. I used it the other day and it worked fine. The file itself is very small so i know it is not a problem with too much transfering over.
ETA: i have tested my flash drive out on my laptop and it is not a problem with the flash drive- it is definitely a problem with my imac realizing my flashdrive has enough room and needs to just transfer the file.

  • IPhone says it is full when it is not

When I sync my phone, the bar at the bottom of the window says I have 1.42 gb of free space remaining, but whenever I try to add more music (even one song), it says that I don't have enough free space on my phone. On my phone settings>general>about, it says I have 361mb of free space. Any idea why I have three different possible amounts of free space (1.4gb, 361mb, or 0mb), and why it won't let me sync more music without deleting some, even though no matter how you cut it, there should be free space enough for one song?
