CS6 Error: Can't open the illustration. The illustration exceeds an implementation limit.

I've been working on this document saved in my Dropbox all day long. Could really really really use some recovery tips. I've tried placing it into another doc, opening it with with CS5, but all that I've been able to salvage is the minimal amount of work on the actual 8x11" artboard.

You should always save to you own harddisk, then copy to wherever, and copy from wherever when needed. You may be lucky for a while, but it may catch up on you. There is a similar advice to send ZIP files rather than raw files.
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).

Illustrator cs4 error: Can't open the illustration. Can't print the illustration.

Disk full error has occurred while it is printing.
Has anyone else experienced this? I am running Illustrator CS4 on a Mac Snow Leopard. The error occurs when attemping to open any eps file on my computer, which are ALL of my Illustrator files, sigh. I contacted Adobe and was told it is a bug, and that they have no fix yet. Does anyone know how to find out when the fix comes out?

Adobe does not provide any updates for any bugs.
Adobe only sells you the next version.
Apple and Windows provided the necessary resources years ago to Adobe to come up with a patch or update for the new systems (Snow and Window 7), but Adobe wants you to purchase CS5 instead.
So be sure to keep giving your money to a company that refuses to fix its failures.

Ack! NEVER post your serial number in an open forum. I removed it, but you effectively just gave it away to thousands of people.
What version of PSE are you talking about? If it's a download version of PSE 11 it might be worth pursuing this, but otherwise it's a waste of time. For older software versions, adobe charges you the upgrade fee in addition to the handling charge, and adobe's upgrade fee is more than the street price of a full new version. Check amazon and big box stores if you have a download for PSE 10 or older. If you have a boxed version of PSE 9 or 10, you already have the mac version on another disc in the box.

Why am I getting the error message "Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains and incomplete or garbled object description."

I work in a graphic design firm and 4 separate people have received these messages on separate days using separate files on separate MAC computers. We are all using CS6.

After clicking ok the file will open; however, most of the illustration is missing. We are interested in repairing our files, but we are more interesting in figuring out why this is happening and fixing it. We are nervous to even open anything for fear this will happen again.

I might have mis counted the number of brackets.
Any idea what is up with my file? It worked yesterday, and for 3 days proir. 3 days of concept designs for a client. Regulary saved.

A few more suggestions:
1) You may see how much, if any, is rescued by creating a new document and placing the damaged file.
2) You may try to mend the file, using this approach:

One thing to try might be to search for the offending part
%%HiResBoundingBox: -1229.2598 -6416.8828
and to remove that and
a) one/some of the brackets so the numbers of either kind match,
b) something that follows and seems to be tied to the offending part,
c) everything that follows.

Try searching for SUNWnspr in your Solaris CDs / DVD. Its there. Once you find it, use pkgadd to install the package and if you have access to sunsolve, apply the latest nspr patch (I think this patch available for SunOS 5.8 in patch 119209-11, for SunOS 5.9 in patch 119211-11, for SunOS 5.10 in patch 119213-11, for SunOS 5.9_x86 in patch 119212-11, for SunOS 5.10_x86 in patch 119214-11).

UPDATE - Ahhh haaaa! If I log in with the guest account Illustrator works fine! WTF!? Oh well, at least I have a direction to be working towards, thanks for all the suggestions and assistance Adobe Community!

UPDATE - Just installed the latest Illustrator update from Adobe - still not loading. Tried reseting the iMac's PRAM, no luck.
UPDATE - I've just reinstalled the whole CS6 Suite, and the only things that have changed are that I now have a little white no entry sign over Illustrator (it still won't load) and I also have 1.5GB of application updates to do
I don't have any direct evidence but I'm guessing this is a Mavericks incompatibility judging by the other issues people are having with Illustrator. Any suggestions are welcome!
I've been using CS6 on my iMac for the past year (3.2GHz Intel Core i5, 32GB ram). Everything running fine, no problems.
Then I get the popup from Apple saying to upgrade to Mavericks, so I did. After updating my Java version, for the next two weeks everything carried on running fine. Until just now.
I finished working on an Illustrator file, saved it and then exited, only to remember I needed to make one more small change. So I clicked on the AI icon and got this error message;
'You can’t open the application “Adobe Illustrator CS6.app” because it is not supported on this type of Mac.' Eh???
I tried doing a reboot thinking that maybe something had just gone wonkey and needed resetting. Still no luck. So I reinstalled Java again. Nope. Then I tried every other CS6 app and they all ran fine.
Does anyone know what could cause Illustrator CS6 to be working fine for weeks and then suddenly become an unsupported app? These things always happen with you're right up against a deadline! I NEED ILLUSTRATOR WORKING NOW! HEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPP!

I had the same issue and resolved it
I first remove the prefs folder and the plist files for illustrator in ~/Libary
next I logged off,
then I uninstalled illustrator using the adobe uninstaller(http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html)
Next I reinstall illstrator
after that it worked for me.

Fonts are ok - they are all created and saved in CS6.

Originally, the cs6 design standards (6 licenses total) were loaded to the server/shared drive and then downloaded onto each PC from there - we believe this may have something to do with the corruption, but this problem has just begun within the last month and the programs were all downloaded over 6 months ago.

I work for a small company in the product development area and we use AI every day, all day. We work on PCs (windows 7) in AI CS6 design standard.
About a week and a half ago, I got the error message "Can't open the illustration." I then proceeded to recreate my file that was lost, once saved and closed, the same error message popped up after trying to reopen. The file was recreated by another person, and the same error message occurred. This has now happened to 5 of my files and a handful of files created by coworkers.
The error seems to be completely random, as we have been able to create other files without a glitch. The other odd thing, is that the one person who uses a mac in our creative department was able to open our 'lost' files as single pages on her AI CS4.

I worked for two weeks in an illustration and I can´t open the file. Illustrator show the message: "Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an illegal operand.((((((( -410390914..."
I followed instructions that I found in forums about make an script for recovery files, illustrator maked a new recovered file and a txt file, I deleted the lines that appeared in the error message, but it continues giving me an error and doesn´t open the file. Can anybody help me, please? Thanks!

Just following up on my results if anyone is interested.
Raghuveer's kind offer to help recover the file didn't yield the results we needed. He was only able to recover the PDF component which was nothing we couldn't do if we tried to open the corrupted file with Acrobat. Opening the file this way isn't editable.
I did however have some success with the developer of the Recovery Toolbox for Illustrator software. The original file that I couldn't recover with the software was able to be recovered by the developers and a subsequent corrupted file was also able to be recovered by their software, but not before I failed to recover it with their software and sent them the new file, which they were able to recover using the software and sent me a copy too.
I was noticing quite a few bugs with their software when I was having trouble recovering the files but it would appear that restarting my computer (something I do quite infrequently as I leave my computer on 24x7 and don't have much need to) may have helped get the software working as expected.
So all in all, Recovery Toolbox for Illustrator is handy piece of software and the developers stand behind it when it doesn't work as expected. But if you are in a bind and need a file recovered ASAP that the software cant do, the time it took tech support to get me the recovered version of my file was was approximately 48 hours. Which in this situation was too slow as we needed it for a presentation that had been and gone by the time they sent the repaired file back. But your needs may vary from ours.

Are you sketches embedded images, or vector? Do you have any additional plug ins installed, or any new recent fonts?
Have you tried your illustrator prefs. Run disk utility to fix any permissions. Set up a new user account, and try to open the file, if this works then we know there is a pref in your user account causing this, otherwise it is somethng in the global installation..
This problem happened back in 2012 to this person though no answer.

I am using Adobe cs5-Illustrator on a macbook pro.
I have opened and closed and save this file many, many times—I have been working on this for the last 2+weeks.

External media: It is always recommended here to open/save from/to own hard disk, and to copy from/to networks and removable media. You may be lucky (for a while), but the chances of file corruption and other unpleasantnesses are immensely greater when you use anything but the harddisk, and it is better to be safe than sorry.
In addition to the (far greater) risk of file corruption, some issues are mentioned here:

To have a network actually work may require some work.
If you transfer by external means it is always safest to zip/compress the file to avoid corruption.

Since CS5, now CS5.1 I have had periods, sometimes multiple times a day, that I have this error, "Can't open Illustration. Can't print the illustration. Disk full error has occured while printing."
I don't understand if I am alone in the problem or what. But after 3 days of the problem starting up again, I am quickly going nuts - I was close to that point before these issues.
Facts:
It happens without warning! These are native illustrator files that I created or have been given to me.
I am NOT printing when it happens.
I cannot open ANY illustrator file once the error occurs.
If I quit Illustrator and re-open, it still does NOT work.
I have to restart my entire computer, then it works fne - until it happens again, which is 5-6 times a day.
I am running 10.6.8 on a 2.9 Core 2 Duo 24" iMac with 4GB ram.
Doe anyone have any idea what the problem is or how to fix it? Please!!!!!

Probably a font cache, corrupt font and now a preference corruption as well.
Bloated font cache an do this.
So can a permission problem
So download ONYX it is free clear out your font cache, if you have cocktail that will do as well. As mfar as the corrut font Font Agent Pro would be useful for helping you locate the corrupt font.
As for the preferences
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS# Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
(someone here will advice you to rename the folder but that only applies to the Windows system just trash and empty the trash and a fresh one will be made)
Then use the disk Utility to repair the permissions.
You can do all of thesee and maybe avoid the corrupt font and see if that works but I suggest you do all three and then if it happens again trouble shoot your fonts.
If this does not help probably a conflict with a plug in or other third party software.

I was working on an Illustrator file and saving as I went. It all seemed to be working properly. When I was finished I saved it one last time and then also saved a PDF of the file. I closed the program momentarily while I typed an email that I wanted to attach the PDF to and then tried to open the Illustrator and the PDF one last time to check everything was done correctly. The Illustrator file came up with this message: Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an illegal or misplaced operator. The PDF also didn't work. Any ideas what's going on here? Simply get used to the thought that the file may be unrecoverable. you can try placing it into a new document or rasterize it in PS, but that pretty much may be the extent of what you can do. And in the future:
