  • Master Collection CS6 Ready for Win 8?

    Hi Guys
    I'm using the Master Collection CS6.
    I've seen pre-release sales are being taken for Win 8. From what I've seen here, although one or two have installed CS6 on a Win 8 machine for testing, there is no official confirmation that the MC is supported on Win 8. Is this right?
    I'm thinking of upgrading but I'm anxious about buying the upgrade and spending time on installation if some or all of it falls over...
    Regards,
    Graham

    Oh, THAT problem, haha.  Yeah, it's quite a nuissence.  But that's been around before.  I find it only really happens if an application is actively working when I undock my laptop.  Say, I have a couple idle Windows Explorer windows open, they'll all fit just fine.  Another issue is if when you undock, the total surface area of your windows is greater than that of your laptop native resolution.  If you have just one fullscreen application running on the other monitor then it should move over without issues.  At least from my own experiences.

  • CS6 JavaScript Running Much Slower than ActionScript

    Dear All,
    In advance of the next version of InDesign CC, which will only support HTML5 and JavaScript, I converted all of my Extension's business logic from ActionScript to JavaScript - about 20,000 lines of code.
    I am using CS6 to run my Extension, and I call my JavaScript methods from within legacy Flex/ActionScript event-handler code using this methodology:
    [Embed(source="MyJSModule1.jsx", mimeType= "application/octet-stream" )]
    private static var _myJSModule1:Class;
    [Embed(source="MyJSModule2.jsx", mimeType= "application/octet-stream" )]
    private static var _myJSModule2:Class;
    _interface = HostObject.getRoot(HostObject.extensions[0]);
    public static function Initialize()
    _interface.eval(new _myJSModule1.toString());
    _interface.eval(new _myJSModule2.toString());
    _interface.myJSMethod();
    I have found that my InDesign Extension runs about 5 times slower in JavaScript than it did in ActionScript.
    Posts I read on the web seemed to indicate that JS would only be about 30% slower.
    Would the upcoming V8-based and Node.js-supporting environment be any faster?
    I really, really need help with this.
    TIA,
    mlavie

    Hmm,
    at that project/code size you get at plenty points where things matter that would be irrelevant in smaller scripts. A few years ago I extended and re-architectured a similar project, by thorough optimizations we got an speed increase of roughly tenfold, of course partially eaten up by new features.
    For the beginning: rather than issuing 80 evals, for deployment I'd compile such an enormous pile of sources into a single file. For debugging, #include is much more fun.
    As you mention argument passing of large xml, that's one area where ExtendScript can seriously slow down. Besides you'll probably find a size limit of about 64k for the underlying XML. We used InDesign document XML for working data, while smaller configuration data was parsed into js objects as soon as possible. I wrote a JSX abstraction layer that would work on either kind of XML.
    Next problem - number of prototype slots. It definitely makes a difference if you have too much, I partitioned objects into cross-linked clusters, similar to the plugin object model (boss classes), the whole enchilada supported by an underlying framework that generated JSX collections etc. by a few declarations, roughly the equivalent to templates in other languages.
    At least you're using prototypes - one really big issue with ExtendScript is the explosion of object allocations when you apply the typical closure-based JavaScript style from web programming. Eliminating them was a very big effort in our rewrite, but also gave a pretty good improvement. At least ExtendScript can produce allocation statistics, use them. Also use them to find and eliminate circular link object leaks etc. A while ago I wrote a diff utility that extends $.summary(), InDesign Server also has some goodies.
    Have you noticed ESTK's profiler? Unfortunately it just gave up at our code size, probably it will also for yours. Instead I used an own profiler with several additions, e.g. I could apply the profiler selectively to some modules while already optimized modules were skipped. It really helps to know your candidates when management pressures for "quick wins" ... Where is most absolute computation time burnt, or what methods are invoked a couple 10000 times too often for your gut feeling. Again, eliminate dead code and thus reduce prototype/object slot count. When your central class has 100s properties and matching get/set methods, eliminating them one by one produces measurable improvements.
    Of course I also tracked down some offending statements where the same value was assigned over and over again causing severe text recomposition while nothing was actually changed ... You can only find such problems with exact measurements.
    Other areas of fun: under the hood (at C++ level) every temporary text expression is backed by an enormous aggregation "suite", there are many things you can do wrong there. For example these things just pile up and are rarely purged, therefor it has become common wisdom to do an occasional save() for lengthy scripts.
    Again at the XML side: if you do severe document XML (we did), there are some circumstances where text attributes will get lost/ignored. There are ways to speed up expressions underlying references to document XML, and so forth. To know when to rebuild the XML expressions or when they can be reused is a science for itself. Same goes for other objects, as you already mention getElements(). Sometimes it helps, sometimes it is just a waste of execution time.
    As you mention the advantage of SSDs: How frequently do you dump those jsx sources into ExtendScript? If you currently use the "main" session (is that possible for HTML extensions at all?), utilize persistent sessions instead - when you have eliminated your object leaks.
    There are plenty more optimizations, I probably should write a book - to be sold in about 5 copies. Unfortunately the strongest advice in its preface would be to not use ExtendScript/JavaScript at all for large scale projects, because they turn into a maintenance nightmare where other languages catch errors on compile time. Dependent on client preference I'd probably turn to Java or do the whole thing in C++, at increasing code size development speed will be roughly on par.

  • Cannot launch trial of Dreamweaver cs6 on my Win 8 laptop

    Hi -
    This is a brand new Toshiba Satellite C55t-A running Win 8 64 bit.
    I need to install a trial of Dreamweaver CS6 for a conference workshop next Tues. So I downloaded it and Installed as Administrator. When I tried to launch DW it hung up in "not responding". So I uninstalled DW & the Adobe Creative Cloud, and then did a manual Windows update. Reinstalled DW, and still the same problem.
    Can someone help me resolve this? Thanks in advance!
    Edited to add that I thought I was installing a trial of DW CS6, but was redirected to an install of DW CC.

    Hi,
       I have had similar problem with  a subscription version of CS6. It now reditrects me to Creative Cloud (where I'm asked to purchase membership)  and can no longer access the paid for monthly subscription version of CS6..

  • When i try to open the itunes store in itunes,windows closes it after not finding a solution for the problem.I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Itunes software. I am running Win 7-with IE10-any help?

    When I selected the Itunes store on my win PC today-the program was closed by windows with windows saying there was a problem. I tried a couple of times and then uninstalled the itunes software and reinstalled it with the same results. The program has always worked before but I have not used it recently since the Ipad now receives it's software updates right off the router. I am running Win 7 with IE10. Anyone with the same problem?

    My post has been viewed 24 times, and yet have had no answers. I have always like adobe products, however if this is the type of support they offer, I will never purchase another product of theirs. The issue I am having is the same issue many others have had, and yet no answer. Poor customer service!

  • Bootcamp - Seems there is no Support for Windows 8.1 once it is loaded. Just got off the Microsoft Help line and they refused to help me because I was running Win 8.1 in Bootcamp. Where do I go for help?

    Bootcamp - Seems there is no Support from Microsoft  for Windows 8.1, once it is loaded.
    I Just got off the Microsoft Technical Help line (Australia ph132058) and they refused to help me because I am running Win 8.1 in Bootcamp.
    I have the latest Mac Book Pro Retina with a 1TB Solid State Hard drive running Win 8.1, beautiful machine, but its slower than my old MBP running windows 7 on a standard Drive.
    The niggiling problem is that it seems to hang up for seven or 8 seconds on menial tasks........ like generating a new Folder or Note etc. Otherwise it runs reasonably well but not blindingly fast....
    I wasn't aware Microsoft refused to help win 8.1 users on the Mac Platform........ shouldn't this Information be made more public...! Seems they are keen to drive potential Windows users away!!
    Any suggestions on where I should go for help on this (Windows/Bootcamp in General) would be much appreciated ? ........ don't mind paying a reasonable price if the service is good......
    I guess the wheel has turned and Microsoft are having a go at Apple again...?
    Many thanks ....... Martin V

    Thanks Turbostar.
    I was thinking along the same lines. I installed Win 8.0 Pro and upgraded to 8.1 ........ probably a bad move.
    I have bought a new 8.1 Licence but cant risk doing a complete reinstall until I have a back up machine ready. (My old MBP is getting a new hard drive) ......... so will give that a go in about a weeks time when the back up is in place. Cant risk having nothing!
    When you say "Clean Install" ..... do you mean everything ..... as in Reformat the Bootcamp sector and start from scratch.?
    I have a 2 TB LaCie Thunderbolt drive with my back up data on ..... is there a way to make the Reinstall process and large amount of Data transfer easy?
    The reinstall is something I need to read up on. I was hoping the solution might be some kind of Tune up on the SSHD.
    Good to hear you have a number of MBP's that are flying, I would be disappointed if the final quality wasnt a bit better.
    ..... do you have any tips on screen Res on the Retina ..... I am running Windows at 125% Zoom, but the Bluetooth, power, wireless, Date Icons etc are all still tiny ...... could really do with an alternative to the old "Advanced Appearance Settings"
    cheers ..... Martin V

  • How do I turn on the keyboard backlight when running Win 7 in Bootcamp 4.0?

    Power Plan 2.5e does not find a Bootcamp process, so doesn't think I'm running it, and is no help. The backlight works perfectly in Mountain Lion, but I can't getit to come on at all when running Win 7. What am I missing?

    Well the problem is most certainly having 2 versions Why on earth would you
    do that ?
    You'll have to remove both and reinstall version 4, although at this point
    you probably should upgrade.
    Please note: I read this Forum through e-mail. If you respond to me; please

    A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
    When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • How do I start Photoshop CS6 without Run As Administrator

    I was encouraged to post this here (updated from post to the Photoshop forum)
    I've seen several similar threads with problems with Bridge ()for beta CS6), nothing recent with run issues with Photoshop CS6
    I have installed most of the programs downloaded from the Cloud. Most run. So far, from my user account I've found Bridge, Encore and Indesign encounter a "Problem" upon opening and close with no further message or details. Dreamwever, Flash, Illustrator and Premiere run as far as I've tested. Everything seems to start fine from an admin account.
    From my user account Photoshoip CS6 brings up a message about a locked scratch file and cannot run. I can start PS CS6 using Run As Admin and everythig seems to run fine. I've tried changing some permissions on discs and on my user account still has PS  CS6 fail to start. (I need to check this again) I've read similar posts on earlier releases. I have tried purging the preferences, both manually and using the crtl+shift+alt start. I still cannot get PS CS6 to run from my user account.
    CS5 prograams from Design Premium start/run fine AFAIK
    I did not instal the CS6 beta
    FWIW
    Gigabyte MB, w/ i72600k
    Windows7 64bit
    SSD for C:
    standard disk for user accounts (moved /user to this disc)
    standard disks for scratch and file starage (each its own disk)
    I tried the uninstall/reinstall game without any change.
    I'm out of ideas.
    Kevin

    Actually the problem is not unique to Photoshop CS6-64:
    In PS6, I can launch it (after I launched as Admin and set cache preference to another drive), but if I try to save a project as PDF, I get this message:
    "(X) Could not open a scratch file because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the 'Properties' command in Windows Explorer to unlock the file."
    Since the only user choice in PS is in Preferences/Performance, I have no way to know what file and where it may be located. But I suspect the issue is outside of PS, perhaps in Acrobat?
    I also cannot launch Encore for what appears to be the same reason (locked cache/scratch file), so the issue goes beyond PS.
    One thing that seems a common thread is that these issues seem to affect only users with SSD C: drives using Win7.
    Can't someone at Adobe chase down these issues that are affecting so many of us. At the very least, tell us the locations of the locked files and a method of unlocking them. I have tried giving blanket permissions to as many likely folders as I can find, and not only does the problem persist, but I am worried about my system security.
    Please help. Please?

  • No audio in firefox, works fine in IE & Chrome. Have Dell E6500 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit. every thing works with native windows driver but with not IDT driver

    I have no Audio in Firefox. I think this is an old problem with Dell IDT driver and Firefox. Flash is installed, I have uninstalled and re-installed two or three times, removed pluggins and put them back to no avail. The native win 7 driver from 2010 works okay in all browsers including firefox but I would like an up-to-date driver that works. The latest IDT driver for my Dell e6500 running Win 7 pro works great in IE and Chrome but not Firefox.

    I don't think there was any setting I could change on the driver. Firefox did not show up in the mixer or volume control. It is there with the native win 7 driver. This driver doesn't seem to see Firefox. I just got this computer, but looking for help, posts three years ago on the web seemed to have this problem with the Dell e6500 and Firefox.

  • I have a laptop running Win 7 Pro, can I setup a dualboot with Win XP

    My laptop is running Win 7 Pro (32-bit) but I have a Iomega Zip 100 drive which has not been supported since Win XP. I have numerous discs with content I would like to access and put onto CD. Can I set up a dualboot system with Win 7 and Win XP without
    affecting my current data?

    The first thing you need to do is verify that there are Windows XP chipset and device drivers for your laptop. If there are none then XP may not function properly, no mouse, keyboard, video, USB ports may no work and more.
    If there are drivers then read the following:
