CS6 hangs when selecting the pencil tool

CS6 hangs for about a minute when I select the pencil tool. Everything just freezes up and then after about a minute I'm good to go. I'm running Lion 10.7.3 with 12GB Ram.

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. The standard answer with all text issues simply is, that you have a "bad font" on your system and need to get rid of it.

When using the Pencil Tool I could see an outline of the pixel group - this has disappeared and all I see is the pencil - Why ?

I use the Pencil Tool to modify pictures and drawings in Photoshop Elements. Normally I would see an outline of the pixel group - so for example, if the pencil size was 6 pixels I would see the outline of the six pixels. This allows very accurate poitioning of the tool. All of a sudden these outlines have disappeared and all I can see is a representation of the pencil where the cursor is. This makes positioning rather hit and miss especially if the pixel size is large. What has changed - and how can I return it to the way it was ?

Photoshop cs6 frozen when using the liquify tool

I am facing a very similar problem as the user on this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5163451
Essentially when I open up the liquify tool, even if I just press cancel, photoshop will just freeze and I have to kill the process manually. I suspect it is a video card issue, so I checked and ensure the laptop is using the latest driver.

Doesn't display the path im drawing with the pencil tool

when i select the pencil tool and draw a path it doesn't show it until i release the mouse button!
why? how can i fix that?

Are you using Windows Vista? If so and you have Aero turned on that sometimes causes strange things like that. It used to happen to me in Fireworks. The way I got around it was having it launch Fireworks in compatibility mode that would revert the display from Aero to standard.

How do I get PS CS5 to stop freezing when I select the type tool?

Okay, I've read the other threads about photoshop cs5 freezing up for various reasons. I'm running it on os x 10.5.8 on a dual quad 2.8 processor tower. Every time I open PS and select the type tool, my entire computer slows and freezes to the point I have to do a hard restart. I've tried disabling all fonts and the same things happens (though when they're all disabled I do get a text cursor before things hang up). I'm looking for any advice--I spend the entire day today trying to fix this.

Chris, I tried updating and it wouldn't install... Are you not allowed to install updates when you are using the "trial version"?
I sure would like to get this resolved before investing in the actual purchase of CS5. I always get the Master Collection and it's expensive.
So, if I can't install the update and try and find a fix to the issue, I don't think I'd be comfortable purchasing... you know?
That's why I ALWAYS download the trial version first... to see if there are issues before buying!
Anyway... I'll keep my eye on these posts to see if this has been cleared up... then, I'll buy.

How can you fix transparency less than 100% when drawing multiple shapes with the pencil tool?

I draw a (fill only) shape at 50% with the pencil tool and when I go to draw another, the transparency jumps back to 100%. I would like it to stay at 50% for every mark I make, anyone know how? I wish to build up multiple semi-translucent vector shapes like in the attached image.

In the bottom of the Appearance Palette, toggle the (deep breath) New Art Maintains Appearance / New Art Has Basic Appearance button (pant pant).
I leave it to you to do three things:
1. Figure out which state of that stupidly-designed single button means which setting.
2. Figure out if the stupidly-designed tooltip that appears when you hover over that stupid button means:
A. ...that what the tooltip reads is the current setting, or...
B. ...that what the tooltip reads is the setting you will get if you click the stupidly-designed single button.
3. Remember what you figured out the next time you need to visit that stupidly-designed button.
Adobe doesn't understand this is a simple yes/no decision, and that a far more intuitive simple labeled checkbox will do.

On Saturday I upgraded to version 10 beta, after installing the version, the options box in the Tools tab will not function. When selected the screen is "blocked out" and the only way forward is to Ctrl+Alt+Del to reset the browser.
I have tried several times to re install but the settings are dragged into the new version. If this keeps on happening I will revert to the original browser.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
* Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Since I did not have this problem with CS5 or CS4, I can only assume something is not right with Photoshop CS6... below is my video card info:

Photoshop CS6 shuts downs when using the move tool. It seemas to run fine until i try and use the move tool. PS worked fine just a few weeks ago and now it has this issue. What can i do to resole this issue?

Multiple video adapters can cause problems when OpenGL and Photoshop use the GPU. It's best to connect two (or more) monitors into one video adapter. If you have to use more than one video adapter, make sure that they are the same make and model. Also make sure that they both support the same versions of OpenGL and Shader Model. Otherwise, crashes and other problems can occur in Photoshop.
Note: Using two video adapters does not enhance Photoshop's performance.

Do you use Flash CS6 to follow the instructions in the classroom book? If yes, then you can find it under text drop down for an AS3 Document as shown below
If you follow the instruction in Flash CC or Flash CC2014 then you will not find this option as this is deprecated.

In CS4 the Pencil tool does not maintain a Fill when drawing?

In Ai CS4, how can I get the Fill color to maintain its fill when I draw with the pencil tool? The Fill color disappears and defaults to No Fill every time I draw with the pencil tool therefore I’m unable to see what I’ve drawn. CS1 did not work this way as it retained any Fill or Stroke previously assigned.

Looks like two things have changed in CS4. Double click the Pencil tool and check the box that says Fill new pencil strokes. Then make a new rectangle filled with color you want and Option(Alt)-drag it to the top-left most box in the Graphic Styles panel to set a new default for this document. Finally in the Appearance panel flyout make sure New Art Has Basic Appearance is checked.

The pencil tool is not working correctly

I've been making my drawing with the pencil tool obviously. After I make a stroke, I continue it with the last anchor point. But sometimes when I do that, the previous stroke disappears completley. Why is that?

That's because Illustrator has got a pretty lame understanding about what should happen when you continue a path in certain angles while the Modify selected paths option is turned on inside the Pencil Tool options.
You can disable that option but I can imagine that this is not what you're really looking for.

Could you please enhance the pencil tool? Thanks!

I saw somewhere online that Acrobat provides good support for tablet computers and O.S. However, there is no good tool to let tablet user to write by hand.
The pencil tool seems good, but when I use it to write, the first stroke will be moved/selected when I start the second stroke, which makes writing continuously impossible/difficult.
Could you enhance the pencil tool to facilitate the hand-writing? Thanks a lot! Hope acrobat gets better!
